So I'm going to continue building my setting, posted it here a while ago under the name astro-anon.

So its a binary star system, main planet of interest is a mechanicum forge world in a figure of eight orbit around both stars. It rotates in the plane of orbit, so the only two forges on the planet take up the entirety of both poles. Everything in between is taken up by massive solar panels spreading out from the equator. These provide massive amounts of power to both forges. The land beneath the solar panels is either wasteland or ruins, constantly dark or dim due to the solar panels above absorbing most of the incident light.

Since the outbreak of the heresy, one forge has sided with horus while the other remains loyal to mars and terra, and they fight it out in the darkness beneath the panels.

So what I'm still working on:
What else lives beneath the panels in the wasteland?
Why do the forges need so much power (outside of regular forgey forging)?
I'm not sure what else to throw in so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Other planet in the system is a pre-imperial/DaoT ruined world, or maybe some kind of artificial planetoid? Covered in traps, shellworld-style. Its located at one of the lagrange points as thats the only way I could think of logically including it in the system.
>>
>>50087190
It probably won't be Book 8, but I figure when we get to Terra it might be called "Invasion".

Exactly, doing that for 10k years is going to make a mess, 40k Templars are nutjobs to a man.

I very much doubt the Black Templar as formed in the 2nd founding were as maniacal as their namesakes 10,000 years later.

What are you talking about? He comments he feels weird wearing black armour, but the chaplains tell him it's because he now serves the Emperor directly as His Champion. Black denotes direct service to the throne, like Chaplains do. Unless you're Auric. Or Bare Ceramite like Malcador's boys.
And that's why the BT have the position of the Emperor's Champion.

Or are you talking about what mark he wore? Sigismund pattern.

Even if we follow current GW fluff thats questionable, this bit of fluff has yet to be retconned and GW acknowledges that Helbrecht has 1300 men and there being 3 more official crusades across the galaxy. Here there are two crusades that happen at the same time, Crusade for Armageddon (1300 BT) and Crusade of Brotherhood (732) which is sent to help Crimson Fists as they rebuild their world and fight orks, meaning that there are at least 2000 Black Templars plus two more crusades that were shown in the Deathwatch galactic map.

Do the Exorcists have 2 extra scout companies on top of the 10 companies, or do they have like 7 companies and 3 scout companies?

Besides, they have those companies because they lose a lot of troops, so it's likely they're never at full strength anyway. Like how Crimsons Fists have a 128 member 1st company (so at full strength they'd have 1028 fighting marines), but since they're at like 400 marines, it doesn't come into play.

Dude I love building settings inside of the HH setting as a whole to fight over

some ideas:
>What else lives beneath the panels in the wasteland?
You could include multiple kinds of abhuman, maybe even a xenos infestation that isn't strong enough to take the Forges but carves out territory under the panels.
>Why do the forges need so much power (outside of regular forgey forging)?
Shielding. If this planet drifts between two stars they would need a LOT of shielding, wether from intense solar flares or from orbital bombardment. Which would make fighitng on this world interesting; an Astartes strike force won't get into a Forge unless they're invited in, or they fight their way through the Solar Panels
>I'm not sure what else to throw in so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Try going over the Solar Panels idea again, what would life be like under those? What happens if a panel falls into disrepair and lets the intense, killing radiation of the twin suns in? There's a lot of stuff there because to me it sounds like one gigantic Underhive, almost.
>Other planet in the system is a pre-imperial/DaoT ruined world, or maybe some kind of artificial planetoid?
You could expand on this and add in some kind of prison moonlet/ servitor factory that both sides now fight over for the manpower needed by either forge.
>>
>>50088663
2 extra on top of the first. So 12/13 Companies total, can't remember the exact numbers, but iirc they are currently at full strength. They have the extra companies because many die in the exorcism when they become a fully-fledged battle brother.

>>50088706
I like to kit them out as Terminator beatsticks with a couple bodyguards in a land raider Proteus with the one upgrade that reduces the transport capacity for some sweet bonuses.

I'm trying to come up with a list for my first real game of 30k, and I want to use the jetbikes I have. I have 7 in total.

Am I better to have:

A) Alvarex Maun infiltrating somewhere mid-field and use his Strato-vox rule to enable a unit of, say, 7 jetbikes inc. a Primus Medicae or Chaplain, all geared up for CC, deepstrike with no scatter and Counter Attack the turn they arrive

or

B) A Praetor with a paragon blade and a 5-man command squad armed with power axes and meltabombs just zooming around waiting to fuck up an elite unit? Two of the bikes would have plasma cannons (unless there's a better option)

Help me out here lads.

I'd say B, especially because a Command squad can be geared for close combat while a regular Jetbike squad cannot, especially because the only power weapon they get is the sergeant's, whom also has to be bought.
>>
>>50089063
Am I doing it wrong by upgrading the heavy bolters to expensive weapons when I'm also paying to kit them out for CC? This seems like a rookie error, but I'm thinking that if those plasma cannons can take out a few terminators before assault then they might have earned their points back.

Any nifty tricks I should know about with using jetbikes effectively?

From the description, I thought the solar panels were up in the air floating/supported in some fashion. But that there's literally tens of millions of square millions of them that they block out the sun on 2/3rds of the planet.

>>50087330
>Why do the forges need so much power (outside of regular forgey forging)?
Perhaps the forges are too interconnected with the solar panels and are built in such a way that they can't interface with any other power source. It's the only reason I can think of why one side wouldn't just work on destroying the solar panels entirely while secretly bringing in backup power supplies.
>>
>>50089134
>any nifty tricks I should know about with using jetbikes effectively

I have no idea, but I'm also interested to find out. My world eaters have a whole lot of anvils, and not many hammers. I've been thinking about having a plasma cannon-toting Jetbike squad drop in from reserves and reinforce segments of my line that need it mid-battle. Not sure how effective it would be.

Maybe the panels are there, and what the Mechanicum is fighting for is for the power plants that collect the energy from the solar panels, since they transmit it via microwaves to a designated power plant? If each side fully believes it's just a matter of time to gain control of 100% of the panels, then the issue becomes capturing the plants, not destroying the enemy's plants. Because we know the Mechanicum is avaricious and wants it all.
As in, you wouldn't destroy the enemy's food silos if what you're fighting for is the silos themselves. Better kill the enemy then get the silos.

My man.

I love the shielding idea. I'm thinking orbital defenses are too strong/shields too powerful, and roll with your ideas that you can only get in from the ground. I hadn't even considered solar flares, thats what an astrophysics degree gets you, makes you sloppy.

I'm thinking some of the objectives would be to capture differen 'hubs' or 'nodes' that route power to the forges. Then bring in some of the ZM rules for hazards to represent falling panels/debris.

What do you think of bringing in more DaoT tech into the equatorial wasteland, I love the mysterious hidden artifacts/secret tech angle so much. Maybe uncovering some kind of massive mega-engineering project that the binary system is artificial/dragged there/supposed to be destroyed/drained/changed in some way. Maybe giant warp portal powering black hole like the supergates from stargate? as a twist at the end.

I've got it! So how about this, the planet doesn't produce anything. Instead, it draws the energy from the solar panels (in addition to drawing from the planet's core) into a device deep underground that keeps the warp around the system, and the surrounding 1 or 2 light years, permanently stable. This makes it massively important for keeping open transportation in the region, but also why neither side is willing to just outright destroy the other.

As a byproduct, the individual forges use this mass of energy for other power-related side projects.

From the old Index Astartes:
>The organisation of the Chapter has moved away from the standard Codex form, becoming more like a reflection of the native clans of Medusa.
>There are ten Clan Companies which act in much the same way as the Battle Companies of traditional Codex Chapters, being versatile and capable in any given situation. However, where traditional Codex Chapters have a distinct separation between the various Companies that form it, such as the 10th Company being formed of Scouts, the Iron Hands Chapter is made up solely of its ten Clan Companies. These generally act as completely separate entities in their own right
>Each Clan Company has its own hierarchy, and is responsible for the recruitment of new Space Marines in order to keep the Clan Company numbers at the required level. These new recruits are taken from the clans of Medusa who embrace their new Clan Company and the Chapter as a whole. The Clan Companies are nomadic, much like the clans they are recruited from.
>As a direct result of their respect for the mechanical body, the Iron Hands differ significantly in some regards from the standard Codex organisation.
>Another variation from the standard Codex form is the distinct lack of Chaplains within the Chapter. They are replaced in sorts by the Iron-Fathers, who in effect take the dual role of Techmarine and Chaplain.
>The reverence they hold for the mechanical, the physical embodiment of knowledge, is frowned upon by the majority of more Codex Space Marine Chapters.

Meanwhile, the DA:
>To an outsider, the organisation of the Dark Angels is much the same as other Codex Chapters, ten Companies each with 100 men.
>The first two Companies of the Dark Angels are where the greatest difference between other codex Chapters lies.
>The remainder of the chapter is organised along strict Codex lines

And Ultras have Tyrannic War Vets, Crimson Fists have 128 member 1st company, etc. Even the most Codex Adherent chapters have variations.

>Company veterans instead of Stern and Vanguard

What they call them doesn't matter. Chapters don't have to call their company commanders captains and squad leaders sergeants to be codex adherent. It's the organization, not the letter of the codex.

Same with IG (the separation of which was also penned by Girlyman) also leaves plenty of room for local variation in command structure and titles, as long as it somehow fits into the general Guard structure, so that all the war chiefs, pretorians and kriegherrs know they're roughly on equal footing when planning strategies.

I like that, but is it too much for the mechanicum? Do we want to keep it as a secret twist, or an unknown result of something? Like what if the mechanicus doesnt know the planet is doing that? And we find out as the story progresses?

Im not big on the electropriest angle, how about we go for more solar powerer photon weaponry instead? Imagine fighting in the dark under the panels and mechanicum are lighting up the place with bright as fuck laser beams. Blinding everyone.

I'm super happy people like this idea.

I figured it was some real heavy DaoT tech. Irreplaceable and irreplicable. Perhaps the calming of the warp is a byproduct of whatever crazy experiments the two forges are doing with the device. Perhaps its existence is only known to the two forges and not really known to the surrounding Imperium and currently neither side wants that knowledge getting out. Possibly because, if it was known there would be WAY more support coming in from both sides of the Heresy, whereas until it gets out, this is a Mechanicum on Mechanicum fight only. Assuming that's what you were going for.

And a heavy flamer.

Sucks you can't give them rad missiles in their missile launcher. Though Creeping Death would make their frag missiles into S5 chem-missiles... Man, if only Mortis dreads came in squads. I'd make a missile one with missile launchers and havoc launchers, dropping three TL S5 Blasts all over the place.
>>
>>50090420
Looks nice! I say you should have waited to get your masking tape before doing the striping, but it doesn't look bad at all!

One tip I can offer is to add one of the thicker texture paints or some cork or something along those lines to give some extra detail to the base.

Is there any reason to take a Legion Recon squad in an AL list which can just have everything infiltrating if wanted?

I need an excuse to paint up AL scouts.
>>
>>50089861
That doesn't make sense. Scouts graduate to become marines in the other nine companies... it'd be strange for a clan to draw the short straw and only be allowed to provide scouts who wouldn't be allowed to complete the initiation process. Meanwhile, all the real marines would have to skip the scout stage.

As far as I know, what makes Dark Angels different is the Inner Circle. Members of DA successor chapters are in it, and that's how they coordinate. But they're also members of their companies so from the outside everything looks normal.

For Destroyer Dreads, what about the Leviathan? He can have phosphex

And any dread with Missiles, if it has Frag Missiles, at least, can be a Destroyer if old man Mort takes to the field himself - he makes them poisoned
>>
>>50090754
Followup to my other comment, I've found it's better and easier if you go with bigger, thicker stripes instead of lots of little ones. That way you have a lot of room to correct any mistakes by widening the black stripes and you're not so reliant on tidy brushwork.

Even my thinnest stripes are about 2mm wide.

>>
>>50090889
>what about the Leviathan

Meh, it's more of a siege than a poison dread. Also, it'd have chem-flamers as secondary weapons, the arms wouldn't have anything Destroyer related.

Creeping Death RoW makes frag grenades and missiles S5 due to chemical munitions.

>>
>>50091092
Are you for real?
Take a knife and make a tiny hole in the middle of your barrel, just a small one to guide the bigger drill.
Use you handrill, done.
Always start with a smaller hole when you got to do a big hole. Goes for modelism and manual work as well.

Not really, but since I see it brought up so often, might as well ask it because no one else has. Maybe it will help someone.
>>
>>50091088
Well I proposed the -1Ld from a pic showing what overkill was like. I think it conveys what your friend suddenly exploding would feel like.
Also, the squad would have CCshovels and pistols, in order to better follow go melee on the poor sods. Obvs, they'd also have access to flamers (the crazy bastards), meltaguns and breacher charges.
I'm not sure about power weapons, their absense would make them automatically inferior to Vets. As if that wasn't the case with Vets vs everyone else, but you get my point.

Were the Rangdan Xenocides against the Slaugth?

The Slaugth from the Dark Heresy books are canon, because one of Alpharius's origin stories has him captured by them, under pale stars in the galactic north in Horus Heresy Extermination. The Rangdan were described as originating from pale stars in the galactic north as well. It is also said in the DH books that the Slaugth got rekt in their distant past, and their numbers never recovered. Were these wormlike dudes the same ones the Dark Angels fought in the Horus Heresy?

I thought the Rangdan Xenocides were the killing of the xenos called/found on Rangda, a threat so big it supposedly put in danger the whole northern Imperium. So sick of fat Americunts thinking that just because they're white the old gods could give a shit about them. Or that they're "Norse."

They don't care for their health, they don't temper their bodies. What kind of joke doesn't make themselves into the most viable father of children he can be? It's literally why the Pagan European men existed, make children, provide for them and teach them to be strong and moral.

They're just hambodied jokes to the Gods.

Newbro that asked about IH/IF/DA here. Settling on either IH or IF. Do either Iron Hands or Imperial Fists have gaping holes in their lists/blaring weaknesses that I'd need to address in my lists?

No one cares about your family history BTW. Shit breeding and dilution has already doomed the legacy of your ancestors with you.
>>
>>50092710
See, if you weren't namefagging, people would just call you out on what few dumbass posts you've made, and everyone would go about their merry way. But because you feel this incredible, dire need to have a name, people have an identity to latch on to and attack. There's no reason for you to namefag, aside from basic attention whoring.

Speaking of, didn't you say you had a bunch of models to assemble? Get back to work, you noble heathen man, you.

>>
>>50092717
Iron Hands need to pass a Ld. test before they can run or perform a Sweeping Advance.

Imperial Fist characters MUST always issue and accept challenges, and they may never choose to fail a morale test. The last part means that if a dreadnought charges a squad that can't hurt it the unit cannot use the Our weapons are Useless rule to get out.

But generally IH and IF are two of the most foolproof legions.

See if you can muster the courage to drop it for a week. I guarantee, people will stop harassing you over the name if you don't post with it. You're still a dumbass, so you're going to get trolled on regardless, but it'll help.

Also, it's principle. Dumbass.

Seriously, why does the name bother so many people? I am not flaunting it, it's mostly here because threads often devolve into multiple conversations and it is easy enough to just follow a name, and it's not like it's harming you.

But we don't care! I come here to indulge in 30k memes and minis and tactica like the IWs do at the Dodekatheon, not to read about how you are or aren't nordic or whatever. >>

>why does the name bother so many people

This thread's dying anyways, so I may as well use up a post to spell it out for you.

There's literally no point in you using a name. You say that it's to follow a name in conversations, but that's really, really not necessary. If people are posting and talking about something, all you really need to know is what they're talking about, and what the post they're replying to said. having names really adds nothing to the conversation, and people manage to navigate these discussions just fine without them. Furthermore, posting without a name means that your posts have to stand on their own legs. You should be able to judge the quality of a post without looking at who's making it.

The only reason you could possibly have to use a name is because you want attention, and you think it's important that strangers on the internet know who you are. It's nothing but a feed on your ego. As I said earlier, you're a fucking dumbass, and your dumbassery persists throughout almost everything you post.

Fuck.

I'm 6'6", or 1.98m
Right now at 288 I am 27% body fat. I WAS 52%.
I am lucky I don't have all the weight related issues, but I am only 21, 22 next year, so the only issue I do have is I have horrible (but improving) posture.

Any questions about my body/ history while we are this far off topic, before this thread is archived?

>>
>>50093185

>>50093188
So what you are saying is you don't like someone else who may or may not be adding to their ego SO much, you will destroy a thread you supposedly like to comment about it? To KEEP commenting about it because he tries to defend himself?

>>50093224
I have no excuses. I made a lot of horrible decisions, some of which could have killed me.
If I had to explain it, I ate my feelings, and made a lot of internal excuses and reasoning to allow myself to inflate. I snuck food, I cheated myself out of work outs, I ate like I was still playing football when I was in college.
>Breathe butter
No, I actually don't like butter. My thing was always pastas.

You're the baddie.
>>
>>50092972
Hammerfall Strike Force plays pretty nice when you're just playing with other folks who started from the boxed sets as well. If you're playing with people with a bunch of FW armour, you're probably going to get pasted.

Stone Gauntlet is pretty decent in ZM, which is the only time you should be using Breachers really.

Honestly my biggest concerns are finding a way to make our special units effective. Phalanx Warders are too expense (they didn't see the points reduction that Breachers got). Basically by the time you take a squad of Warders or Templar, kit them out a bit, and put them in a transport you're looking at a cool 600 points easily enough. Especially with IF's amazing Terminator options (Storm Shields, Assault Cannons, Teleport) it's hard to pick them over a tougher, killier squad of Termis.
