The main problem with Partner is that literally all of them are sub-$1 bulk rare levels of power.
I mean, they all feel like normal, non-legendary, rare only (not mythics) generic filler cards. Most legendaries from normal sets have better feels and power than these.
And because of this, they're gonna be quite unpopular, so Wizards will never revisit the mechanic again.

The main point that people are neglecting to appreciate is that the partners lead to very consistent decks. They all have low CMC on average for their effects, and rather than having to pay full price for your commander, you pay a prorated amount for just the half that is most relevant to the cards you have drawn that turn. /tg/ is taking them at face value only, and that's just a poor assessment.

How do you build Yidris without being all win-more? If he survives and connects in combat, you're already doing well. But if you use your resources before combat to push him through, you can't take advantage of his cascade.

anyway realtalk dude. rakdos is a cool dude. rakdos is a cool color combination. but rakdos, lord of riots isn't worth the 26-card buildaround. what you want to do is a goodstuffy reanimator 99 that works great without rakdos, then add rakdos as a cherry on top to let you throw fatties on the table once you're already doing decent on the board.

the only pingers worth putting in the deck are stuff like pestilence and pyrohemia i think, and that's because they clear the board, deal damage, allow a manadump/wincon AND enable rakdos without being a hrorible dead draw otherwise

Just foils. Everything in it was a reprint, zero new cards. Basically they decided after the success of the original Commander product to make it an annual thing, but they made that decision too late to make a product for 2012 properly. So they printed up some foils of cards that'd never HAD foils (and also a few other things), packaged it with some new oversized foil Commanders and some sleeves and sold it for MSRP of 75 dollars...

and most stores got 2 of them at the most. Even stores that usually got 20 From the Vaults.

I think people who treat the cards like investments are a detriment, but even if you're not thinking of it as an investment it still hurts to watch something jump outside your budget because you were gonna buy it TOMORROW and something changed to make it ten times as expensive.

As someone who was on the ass end of both of these, I can confirm it made me super bitter and affected how critical I am of new cards. It was one thing when you were only losing a couple of cents here and there, but now individual cards are swinging $20 in value, and forget about playsets.
