Strange, I got told completely differently when I emailed them
>>
After asking re. Legiones Astartes in the last thread and getting good feedback, I've made my plans.
I am planning to start Mechanicum first and then supplement them with either Iron Hands or Iron Warriors (Partly because I love Thallax and partly to put off the decision on which to use.) Planning on using either Decima or Anacharis Scoria as my Warlord depending on how high-points the game is.
So, what units are a given for Mechanicum?
Was thinking two Thallax units at least, and maybe one or two Castellax to bodyguard my Warlord and prevent them from being Swept in melee as neither are fearless.
Does Scoria have a model for him or his Homonculex robot buddy? Cant find one. If not I might get the Abeyant and make it more darkmech with some Soul Grinder legs or similar.
Does using Scoria affect my capabilities to ally in Legiones troops if I decide to go Iron Hands for allies rather than Traitors like IW?
>>
>>49967463

What force are you running? Cybernetica, Ordo Reductor, or Taghmata?

Scoria doesn't have a model yet, but one is in the works.
>>
>>49967337
And I was told Power Daggers are S:D AP1 when I emailed FW, very strange.
>>
>>49967463
>Partly because I love Thallax and partly to put off the decision on which to use.)
Yeah, feels like this
>So, what units are a given for Mechanicum?
You can't gi wrong with some Castellax and Triaros, but check the wiki for more info regarding your battle plan. Anacharis and Caleb are polar opposites.
>Was thinking two Thallax units at least, and maybe one or two Castellax to bodyguard my Warlord and prevent them from being Swept in melee as neither are fearless.
Decima cannot join Battle automata, he lacks Patris Cibernetica
>>
>>49967635
>Power Daggers are S:D AP1
Allright! Backstabbing Imperial Knights sanctioned.
>>
Which legion has Battletoads?
>>
>>49967527
Ideally Taghmata although while I still have a small force Reductor with Decima would possibly work better to buff my Thallax.
Primary plan is to get a generic Magos and use him as Decima until I get enough stuff to properly support Scoria.

Not terribly interested in the giant stompy robots like the Thanatar, more the shock trooper types and the tanks.

>>49967664
OK, possibly two units of Thallax and a Magos of some kind to start with.
Guess I need to find a different squad for Decima to get within 18" with.
>>
>>49967635
Yeah, well they told ME that any model armed with a flame weapon is immune to poison and fleshbane.

>>
>>49967758
>Guess I need to find a different squad for Decima to get within 18" with.
Decima buffs a single Heavy/Ordnance weapon. Try upgrading him to Invictus for Relentlessly spitting 2D6 Haywire shots...so, like 3.9 guaranteed removed HP. And he has a Macrocarid DT for himself. Just saying. And has access to three different retinues (two of them similar, all three suck).
>>49967763
Nigga, that's Alpharius.
>>
>>49967758
>more the shock trooper types and the tanks.
That's the Reductor's bussiness, using Thallax and scoring tanks along with disposable Medusae
>>
>>49966849
I like where you're going with Destroyers, but it's not quite enough.

I'm thinking packs for 50 as well.

I want their pistols to have radphage, but not give them Lucifex pistols. Maybe Poisoned 4+ like another suggested?

I also like the idea of chem munitions for flamers, but who would ever take those over rad missiles?
>>
Okay so I have 15 un modeled mk ii marines, and will have 120 mk iii marines soon.
Do you think I should make those mk ii's sgt.s in my next army? It makes sense, a little, as they are the oldest armor sets, but since mk iii being just mk ii with extra protections why would a whole squad have extra protection while the sgt. doesn't?
Or should I just use them for my flamer tac support squads and then paint them with burnt armor?
>>
>>49967463
Scoria is Dark Mech, which means that you'd have to use traitors to ally with him.
>>
>>49967958
>Maybe Poisoned 4+ like another suggested?
That was a joke! It would make them the same as bolt pistols but worthy against Mechanicum in which case you'd still be better off using sniper vets.
Chem munitions sound fine.
>>49968098
You realize traitor IHs and loyal IWs are a thing, right?
>>
>>49967463
>>49967758
>>49968098
Adding on to this, Caleb is loyalist only, while Scoria is traitor only.

>>49967959
Why not make them veteran squads?

>>49968140
Yes. All I said was that ge was traitor only?
>>
>>49968173
Ok, but stop betraying me anon-kun :^v
>>
>>49968173
I am making the regular SW boxes mixed lightly with a mk iv box as my two veteran squads- the SW box has a fucking TON of gold lineage to paint, and an equal amount of wolf symbols to help designate vets.
>>
>>49968255
What do you like about the Death Guard?
>>
>>49968255
Why not get five more and use them as two tac squads for an allied detachment or a new army then?
>>
>>49967201
are people still to this day getting salty over this?
free chainaxes are literally the only advantage WE get over other melee legions, we have shit unique weapons and a primarch that adds so little to his legion you might as well take a fellblade
>>
>>49968278
In general? They are a fighting force of well rounded, infantry and terminator units, with little regard for specialized units- or in short, exactly like how I play any army.
>>
>>49966885
When did 30k become the game of Xboxhuge superheavies? I came here from 40k to escape all that
>>
>>49968173
>>49967913
>>49968140

OK, some reading later I think that Reductor would be almost perfect if not for the lack of allies or Scoria, and I can get around that by not using Matrix of Ruin and adding in allied detachments of Taghmata with Scoria and some Castellaxi, I think. Won't be worrying about that for a while, anyway.
For a starting army I was thinking 2 Thallax cohorts with Phase-Plasma, and a Magos Reductor w/ Abeyant and some Scyllax for him to hang out with, and gear them for melee while the Thallax pick at things at range. Good thing about Mechanicum being so expensive pointswise is that should be decent for v. low points games.
Then probably add some Phosphex Medusae to bombard anything I dont like the look of.
Sound any good? I fully expect to not know what I'm doing in the slightest.

Fluffing and crunching out my Lost Legion for shits and giggles and also because I'm a faggot. I would never deign to use these rules on tabletop, it's more just a fun little writing project for myself. When I model the army for tabletop (which I do intend on) they'll just be Blackshield Outlanders, but I'm just trying to get some unique flavour here.

Ursus-Pattern Power Axe
S-User AP-2, Melee, Shred, Unwieldy

Was thinking of adding two-handed or specialist weapon as well.
>>
>>49968903
with specialist it's not OP.
>>
>>49968903
>Ursus-Pattern Power Axe
>S-User AP-2, Melee, Shred, Unwieldy
>Was thinking of adding two-handed or specialist weapon as well.
Better than Excoriator axes, worse than UM Legatines. You aren't as faggot as you think, anon.
>>
>>49968903
What about the axe gives it shred and removes +1S? It's just a bit bland, like you're forcing a change just so it's unique.
>>
>>49968957
The idea is that they're patterned after the fieldcraft axes of the frontiersmen of the Primarch's parent culture. One of the versions of rules I designed for the weapon confers Monster Hunter on the bearer. It was something like S:+1 AP:2, Melee, Specialist Weapon, Monster Hunter
>>
>>49969000
What's a frontiersman axe, anon? I think I could give you all manner of entrenching weapons
>>
>>49968947
That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.

I'm currently writing a legion profile in as close to the style of a Forge World Horus Heresy book Legion profile as I can, I would actually advise waiting to pass judgment on my faggotry until I start posting it here. Like with the rules for an Ursus Axe, I tried to avoid extravagant Gary Stu faggotry as much as possible, but who knows, that may be a futile effort on a project like this.
>>
>>49968648
If I give my Scyllax frag grenades (which seems almost mandatory anyway) could I then phosphex-bomb a unit I am charging and then charge through the fire so that I hit first in the assault? My knowledge of the difficult terrain rules are a bit shoddy.
Also, wow those artillery batteries give a lot of options. That will help vary my lists a lot while I still have few models.
>>
>>49968510
Most things FW produce are basically 40k but bigger.
>>
>>49968510
>Doesn't know about Flare Shield Spartans....
>>
>>49969027
A stupid thing I invented that probably wouldn't work IRL. It's supposed to be an axe that "with which a mortal man could eke out an existence on even the most savage Xenos ecosystem" (a quote pulled from my fluff).

I envision them as a bearded axe with little hunting knife serrations here and there. Hammerhead on the off-side.
>>
>>49968510
Its been that since forever, the heresy started with bigger games closer to apocalypse than normal games and still the heresy tends to be better at larger games.
>>
>>49968736
And my asshole unclenches
>>
>>49969051
>My knowledge of the difficult terrain rules are a bit shoddy.
So are mine it seems, I though it was the unit charging through Dangerous terrain the ones who suffered the Initiative penalty, not the units being charged while standing on it.
Also, the Walkers in Ruin basically have Move Through Cover (Ruins, trenches, Minefields, Razor wire).
You can also start combat with a Breaching Charge, a power fist in a satchel.
>>
>>49969083
I get home, then I attend this.
>>
>>49969188
It is, but I would imagine if a pie-plate of difficult/dangerous terrain appeared beneath someone they would probably count as having moved through it.
It would make sense, at least.
If now, still taking 2 - 4 Medusae because space white phosphorus is perfect for ironically killing my friend's death guard.
>>
>>49969280
If *not* I meant. So, are min squads of Thallax actually capable of killing anything or are they just agile annoyances?
>>
>>49969280
Only the unit of which models had to move through terrain whilst charging recieves the initiative penalty (unless the unit that it charges is already locked in combat from the previous turn)

Do keep in mind that Death Guard always get a 4+ FnP against phospex now, because it has the Poison rule.
>>
>>49969280
I don't think they count as having moved through it 2dh.
>white phosphorus is perfect for ironically killing my friend's death guard.
You know DG get a FnP 4+ against poison, right? It's like phosphex melted their power armours and they still got a 4+ save from their Barbaran abs. DG termies can wade through phosphex: 5/24th chance of actually suffering a wound (Cataphractii).
>>49969304
I don't think Thallax pump out enough hurt either in melee or at range. Maybe Destructor (Tank Hunters) with Meltabombs. Maaaaaybe.
They can Jump shoot jump
>>
>>49969433
>>49969359
Well, neither of those things are good. Would probably just use the regular rounds then, perhaps buffed by Master of Destruction for big things.
Ursarax might also be nice for dedicated assault units, and possibly a couple of the Castellax bots, but probably going to be mostly the tanks and artillery.
That at least is good if I ally IW in, as a big squad of 3+ saves should handle my heavy infantry and anti-infantry needs nicely.
>>
>>49969154
You better re-clench it, see that thing on the top? 24" S6 AP3 Heavy 3, Pinning.
See those two on the front? Template S4 AP3 Heavy 1, Fleshbane, Rad-phage, Torrent.
Torrent only has a 12" range + 8" length of template? Explorator Augury Web, which confers Scout.

That thing is going to tear open your asshole and shoot hot liquids all over your MEQ blobs until you pass out.
>>
>>49969280
>>49969188
A unit charging through difficult terrain without assault grenades strikes at I:1. Representing the longer exposure time to enemy fire (moving slowly through he brush or ruins) Assault grenades force the enemy into cover allowing you to close more easily.

I can't remember the exact page in the RB. But terminators don't have assault grenades, that's why they use the frag assault launchers on LRR/C's .
>>
>>49969556
What? No. What? Where does that info come from? For Christ's sake, why does Mechanicum have to have AP3 everything?
>>

>You better re-clench it,

>>
>>49969556

It's decent, but expensive.

>>49969657

Because it's the only thing that is relevant against marines.
>>
>>49969657
It's already a unit in the Taghmata book, where it essentially functions as "Build your own steampunk Land Raider". That particular build is 245 pts, IIRC, but you can also give it Flare Shields, Armoured ceramite and a variety of other *fun* toys.
As for your second question, because everyone else has 3+ everything and any decent magos can Know Thine Enemy well enough to know that.
>>
>>49969743

Well, with the Augury Web, it's 285.
>>
>>49968383
>are people still getting salty over this?
> immediately proceeds to pour salt
>>
>>49969657
I-Rad Cleansers on the front, Mauler Bolt Cannon on top. Indeed both AP3, quite deadly, but expensive.

>>
>>49969781
>>49969714
>>49969657
Also as far as I can tell, it's not an assault transport, and cant be used by Legion allies, so the Mechanicum has a dearth of units worth putting in the thing.
Maybe a blob of Tech-thralls to dump on an objective or some Vorax to drop more fleshbane templates then charge next turn, but anything scary will cost at least 200 pts on top of that.

So if I take the Ironfire Rite of War then can I use Reductor artillery batteries to generate Ironfire counters and take advantage of the increased accuracy?
It states "Barrage weapons targeted at a friendly Iron Warriors unit" and Mechanicum are Sworn Brothers, meaning the IW are friendly units.
Apologies if this is something frequently asked, but I honestly have no idea how Rites of War function with allies.

also two BS5 bolter shots before the charge, but that's not super relevant

They're not the best assault unit at 275 for five, but how they perform tilts hard depending on who is charging whom.
>>
>>49970704
I think not because effects of a RoW don't seep into allied detachments and vice versa.
>>
>>49970704
In short? They don't. Unless specifically stated in that Rite, the benefits of a RoW only apply to the detachment taking it. In this example, because the mechanicum units aren't part of the detachment that has the Ironfire RoW, they don't have the special rule allowing them to place or benefit from the markers.

That's like mere 0.77 wounds dealt to the Gal Vorbak, anon. I used 3.5 attacks because that includes the 1/6th chance of an extra attack times 3 attacks, so (1/6)(3)=0.5
3.5 attacks * (1/2)WS * (2/3) to wound * (2/3) of their invuln = 0.77 unsaved wounds per Auric nigger.
Unless they also gain +1 for the knife or something, which would then become 0.813 wounds
Meanwhile, the regular Gals, accounting for Rage and Rending, do
5*(1/2)*(1/3)*(1/6)+5*(1/2)*(1/6)*(2/3) = 0.416 wounds due to the fact that most of them are wielding stupid chainswords
However, the powerfist Martyr alone does
1.38 ID wounds by himself.

Those are raw numbers, you guys have fun allocating them and such

8 Attacks at I:5 AP_ rending from the DB
3 attacks at I:1 ap 2 Instant death from the DM

Everyone Hits and Wounds on 4's at I:5 step.
>Help me with the math
Custodes would get 4.64 hits 50% hit, plus extra attack from a roll of a 6 hitting 50% with that. (8*.5=4+((8*.16)*.5)
GB get 4 hits= 8*.5
DM get 1.5 hits = 3*.5
>>

I think the idea of the vengeful Last Luna Wolf and his coterie of loyalist hardcases coming back from being left for dead and wrecking traitor anus with a Custodes backup Contingent as a reward for their loyalty and sign of the emperor's wrath at the traitors would be badass in the extreme.
>>
>>49971866
Aww don't on his dreams, anon. Maybe poke him a little to motivate him.

I bet the SW would see the DG as grim-faced dealers of death, focused on making the battlefield a graveyard more than actually doing battle. The SW tolerate them as they get shit done, and it's not like the Executioners can be picky. They'd simply wish their allies livened up a little. Also, the chems make their fur smell funny.
But hell, they can actually keep up with them when drinking. Get those DG a little tipsy with a few tankards of ambrosia and shit goes wild!

In the fluff Loken never gets the chance to lead other loyalist Sons of Horus. If you can live without him, getting Custodes is still difficult to justify - but I'm willing to accept stories that stretch the fluff.

Custodes would only be present if your contingent was doing something really important. They could be there because the loyalist SoH aren't fully trusted. But I think you'd have to lose the eye symbol, and I'm not sure about using SoH rules either. Feels more like Blackshields in SoH colors.

I know black library has a reputation for writing shit but at least read the book summaries or something.

Basically him and Iacton Qurze become knight errants where they do a bunch of pointless shit on caliban then infiltrate horus flagship placing markers all over the place for Leman Russ to follow. They get captured and most of the KEs with them get killed by possessed and Qurze gets killed by horus. Deus ex machina happens and a few of them escape.

Apparently russ will end up getting his head kicked in by horus who also killed his wolves and totally destroys his legion.

This is my very first attempt at a 30k Mechanicum/IW list. Feedback?

Ruinous brethren (2000pts)
Age of Darkness standard FOC (1215pts)
Mechanicum Ordo Reductor

Caleb Decima w/ Invictus upgrade (warlord, 220pts)

Scyllax - 4 models, frag grenades, enhanced arrays (165 pts)

2x Thallax Cohort - 3 models, 1 irad cleanser, Empyrite upgrade (155 pts each)

2x Ordo Reductor Tank Battery - 2 tanks, Medusa cannon (260 pts each)

Iron Warriors (loyalist) Allied Detachment (785 pts)

Centurion w/ Master of Signals, Artificer armour
(105 pts)

Iron Havoc Support Squad w/ 5 autocannon, Augury Scanner (190 pts)

2x Legion Tactical Squad - 20 models, Nuncio-vox and sarge has Artificer armour (245 pts each)

Decima goes with Scyllax, MoS goes with Havocs. Havoc squad hangs about close to the arty to intercept and support the advancing tac squads along with the deepstriking Thallax.

What are my glaring mistakes/mortal sins?

2x Thallax - 3 models, phase-plasma fusil.

Triaros armoured conveyer as DedTran for 1 Thallax unit (125 pts)

2xOR AT Battery - 1 tank each, medusa cannon (130 pts each)

This might be a bit simpler to get my head around.

>Magos Dominus
To use a Reductor army, there are two requisites:
Two units of Thallax
A Magos or Archmagos Reductor

At that little amount of points, I think flyers won't be participating, so the artillery can operate unrestricted, but at higher points you'll need to defend it from deepstrikers and flyers.

And the Mechanicum has poor-ish AA, mostly from their Fast Attack choices. Icarian Thallax also become Heavy Support.

Also, if you don't want to upgrade your Thallax, that's alright as well, it's not mandatory like a High Techno-arcana.

And it came to rest deep within the Hive and left behind a hole into which drop pods and transports were launched. It's not like it smashed into it and protruded from the side like an arrow. It went inside deep enough to leave a hole behind it.

It's always possible the ship came in a downward angle, pierced in through the top portion of the hive and sunk into it downwards, ending its travel in lower levels.

Still, in most states the definition is either "They are the same thing" and "6k+ is a city"
>In California, the words "town" and "city" are synonymous by law
>According to the North Carolina League of Municipalities,[18] there is no legal distinction among a city, town, or village—it is a matter of preference of the local government. Some North Carolina cities have populations as small as 1,000 residents, while some towns, such as Cary, have populations of greater than 100,000.

Hives are buildings that follow fairly rigid templates at the first (they stop following the template pretty quickly though), so you can count on Necromunda being relatively standard in terms of layout.
The actual orientation of the hive may change depending on the environment (existing mostly underground if that's preferable, that sort of thing), but the general idea of a hive is the same throughout the Imperium.

It's probably due to similar materials and what you can do with them. Like all the pyramids around the world. There's just so much you can do with stone to make big structures. So it's possible, given the technology available, that in time hives just naturally evolved to resemble a similar basic structure purely dictated by the materials and construction methods available to the Imperium.

>>49973763
Not entirely unlikely.
The Life-support systems and power-plants are probably the same across the Imperium, after that it's local influence. But high-end building materials will for the most part be the same across the Imperium, and keep in mind that most Hive Cities are millennia old, which homogenises things even more.
It's not as if the Imperium is in the habit of building new hives, those they have existed almost as long the Imperium has.

Hundreds of millions of people, billions if we're talking actual major Hives.
Population Density for a hive is mental, and since they're entirely sealed environments they can exist almost anywhere.

High density hive worlds can have populations in the hundreds of billions, and require a network of agriworlds to feed the population.

3e rulebook listed Hive City population as between 100 and 500 billion, listing planets like Necromunda and Armageddon. Some later pieces have given us far smaller hives, down to like 25 billion.

In, I believe 1e Necromunda, it mentions that the planet has a thousand hives and when doing census on one, they stopped counting after they hit a billion. Of course we don't know if all the hive on the planet are inhabited, since some are almost forgotten about, so it's possible they're ghost hives.

It'll depend on the environment I suppose, but many hive worlds do not exactly have an atmosphere I'd consider breathable, or even an atmosphere at all.

If outside air is an option that's useful obviously, but your example also indicates that the lower levels are basically toxic due to the air treatment systems not working properly down there and pollution building up.

Yeah, but hives being toxic shitholes is basically the standard. Semi-filtered air is better than no air, and it's not like anyone gives a fuck about the state of the lower levels.

Well you still understood my army enough to write a shorter version. Thank you, I will use this new format moving forward.

Now for C&C

>praetor-180
>plasma pistol, paragon blade, digital lasers, iron halo
Seems good and fine except he has no real place to go. Start at 2k and give him some way to reach combat with a retinue

>2x tactical squads-590
>20 marines, vexilla, ccws, aa/pw sarge

>2x apothecaries-110
>AA

Tac blobs and FnP are always good, sarges should get power fists instead of power weapons all the time.

>predator squadron-325
>3xtanks, 2 las sponsons, 1 HB sponson

No way to split fire, cant decide to shoot at infantry, vehicles or anything. Reconsider this entire unit

>leviathan-295
>calivers, melta lance

Good, leviathans are always a threat, except most enemies will run away so you'll never be able to use him to his fullest. Your guns are short ranged and you are footslogging. Consider buying him a dread pod

What is with your formatting, mang? Why do you have two seperate Apothecary slots, rather than two in one?

It's not even ordered in FOC order!

Here's one of my meme lists, for example. There's other ways of formatting, but this one at least is legible.

Fury of the Ancients, "Wrath of Bitter Grandpas"

Okay, would it be smart to remove one whole predator, give them the command tank upgrade, then give the leviathan a Dread pod?

>>49976791
Because thats how I think. I put them together like that because tac squad #1/ Apoth #1 go together.

To redo this unit, i would run the following until you get actual LA rules and units

>2k list for namefag

>praetor-180
>plasma pistol, paragon blade, digital lasers, iron halo

>Command Squad-175
>1 extra chosen, tartaros terminator Armour, 3x power fists, 1x chainfist
>dedicated Transport-LR Phobos-225

>2x tactical squads-590
>20 marines, vexilla, ccws, aa/pw sarge

>2x apothecaries-110
>AA

>Sicarian Battle Tank-165

>Sicarian Battle Tank-165

>leviathan-390
>melta lance, Dread pod

Sicarians can damage heavy armour, can threaten flyers and are fast.

Rhinos are cheap regardless. Conversion rate at the moment for us Maplefags has it sitting at $12 more for a Deimos than a Mars.

I'd hope so. I need over 100 of the bastards.
