Ran against a feathered serpent in the PCC for either the Yakuza or a dragon with a gang of Yaks. Intercepted several crates of magical tomes, put a virus into the host the feathered serpent's shell company used, then blew up his house.

Campaign ended around then, before we could get what was coming to us.

Anyone have some good stories or reference material for running a game set in a feral sprawl in Africa?

I've got some newbies who want to give Anarchy a try and I figure doing some land war in Africa bullshit might be a lot of fun. Blood diamonds, skin trade, child soldiers, bribery getting you everywhere and hostile wild-life. Ghouls and such having a nation nearby.

Thinking of setting it in where Botswana would be, because I'm familiar with the history of the region.

Depends on the game. If your sacrificing people, you're probably going to get hunted down by people looking to collect a bounty on blood mages or shadow spirits (whether or not you actually have magic powers).

Just join the Cult of the Dragon, go around telling people Dunky's coming back to judge our sins.

Yeah, honestly it is mostly a throw away idea i kind of want to play after seeing some occult stuff.

Our group started pretty pink mohawk, but as the campaign went on and more chars bitten the dust/ decided to retire it got slightly darker.

Two of the eldest characters were paranoid former corpsec rigger, and something that started off as Gloria expy (although with less satanism) and grew into something more.

They both were kind of broken; he still carrying a heuristic avatar of his dead wife running on simsense and occasionally having strokes of workaholism, she being a more 'ware-than-flesh killing machine with a past that occassionaly visited us under a guise of creepy, unnerving 'runs.

And they kinda grew on each other. IC nobody in the group knew anything about their relationship, due to them both being rather non-social folks, and only recently have they started to get to meeting sites together.

They agreed that this job will be their last one, a milk run that would leave them with enough money to cobble together a new life. But then suddenly gunship (seriously, fuck our decker and our fixer) and before we realized what's going on, the rigger was lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

Razorgirl goes completely apeshit, and rather than run to turrets that rigger set up earlier, which could hope to damage the thing, goes full on RULES OF NATURE on the gunship. Burns all the edge, and with a bit of a DM fiat manages to break into the cockpit and kill the pilot.

The entire group was wondering whether she had any plans about what to do next, but it proved to be a moot point as the rigger's top-secret, backup, mum's the word drone placed a well-aimed rocket into fuel tanks of the 'ship ending the all-out-of-edge razorgirl in a huge fireball.

There is no place for love in the Sixth World, /tg/.

Strangely enough, due to an incredibly lucky roll from our IRL edgemaster, the rigger will survive.

How would you make a contact that has a love/hate relationahip with the pc?
Likw, they will help the character when asked, but will also do things just to drive the character crazy, like calling during sleeping hours or pre-vandalizing goods bought through them?
>>
>>49939124

If they don't actually cause the character harm/ put them in danger? Contact with high Loyalty and RP.
>>
>>49939124
You mean mechanically? Make the contact have low loyalty (1-3), but treat the contact as if it had high loyalty for favour purposes. Occasionally however, have the contact act against the PC, give slightly off information, hire some low level goons to mess with them. not enough to make them an Enemy, but enough to be an annoyance.

Or alternatively do >>49939184

I did that. One of my contacts was a streetdoc with a lot of loyalty. He was also a Dependent 1, because Cousin Larry is kinda hapless and thinks that I should work for him in exchange for getting me into Seattle.

His crowning moment was when we came back from a run, shot to shit, and I went for the medical supplies I keep at home only to find the cabinet empty and a note from Larry saying he'd get the stuff back next week, dated two months ago.

>>49939801
I don't mean in a "have I heard this guy before" sense
more like "is this accent more Irish, Scottish or Welsh"
Think first meeting and you want to find out through the accent where he comes from

I ask this as a GM cause I can't imagine what you would roll for that
>>

Then as the GM you do an accent. If you're bad at accents, you say, "This guy has a Scottish accent."

There's no roll for that, because there's no point in rolling for that.

yeah but imagine I am talking with an accent and THE PLAYERS want to know if they know what kind of accent that is.
They will most likely have to make a test to see if their characters know what kind of accent that is. Just because the players can recognize the accent does not mean that their characters can, and vice versa.

>>49940061
>Knowledge (Language)
may work.
But what if the accent is a mix of different languages? e.g. someone with both an Aztlaner Spanish and south CAS accent.
Would both English and Spanish work?
What if they know neither language (e.g. their only languages are German and Mandarin)?

Because I can imagine that in some situation it may be nice to know where exactly the accent is from

LOG+[Language Skill] threshold 1, defaulting if you don't have the relevant skill, + situational modifiers depending on how common/strong the accent is. High degrees of success allow narrowing down specifics about where the guy is likely from originally.

Honestly you're going full sperg here, unless your players are really into this sort of thing nobody's going to care that your Fomorian troll is from Upper Eastwick instead of Lower Southwick.
>>
>>49940292
So you are saying that the characters should instantly recognize the general area a NPC is from (CAS, Japan, Hong Kong, AGS, ...) Should only roll if they want to know the exact area and only be able to do that if they know the language?
In that case: What if the applicable language is your native language? Do you instantly know where they are from even if you had no contact with the area and it's people before? If not: What should the pool be?

An Apocalypse World joke. 'Act Under Fire' is the move you use to react to dangerous situations. If a move is advanced, it means you are succeeding with style and grace.

>Can trolls be pretty?
Yes. Trolls don't even take a penalty to normal charisma - just to their maximum. Having a troll with 3 Charisma is no harder - nor easier - than having a human with 3 charisma.

Orks and trolls aren't, on average, any more or less Logical or Charismatic than members of other metatypes. They just have a lower maximum - where you won't find the absurdly-charming geniuses the way you might in other metatypes.

There are attractive orks and trolls - including in both canon fiction and official art. You're just far more likely to find a supermodel-tier elf than you are to find a particularly attractive troll, because elves have a higher baseline, and goblinoids have a lower maximum.

>but Charisma is strictly your personality, and has nothing to do with attractiveness
In D&D, maybe, but in Shadowrun, attractiveness is explicitly a component of Charisma, in the same way that buffness is a component of Strength. There are physical manifestations of many of your attributes, and being pretty is one part (of many) of being Charismatic.
>>

>>49939964
>>49939728
You just roll a Memory Test to recognize an accent you're familiar with.

And if you're not familiar with it, you can't roll the Memory Test.

The more familiar you are with the accent, the lower the test threshold, meaning someone with only passing familiarity with the Welsh accent would have a hard time recognizing it from Irish, while someone from Gwyrwyrn-on-Sea would just need 1 hit to immediately recognize that someone's from Cardiff by their accent.

And that's seriously it.
>>
>>49943948
>any tips or things that i should take in account?
Your players are not going to notice the things you think are obvious.

Your players are going to make things harder on themselves than they need to.

Your players are going to make mistakes.

Sometimes even easy rolls fail, because that's just how dice work.

You need to make sure they have a way to succeed even when two or more of those things happen at once.
>>
>>49943881

A fun thing thats mentioned in one of the books that i think CGL did right is mention that Shadowrunners don't often actually see jail time for very long if they get captured, since disposable assets are, above all assets.

So if they fuck up a run you can avoid a tpk by making them work a hard ass run for the corpsec who kicked their ass.

The term 'breeder' came about because, originally, orks and trolls only became that way through goblinizing at puberty. They were made, not born. This isn't really the case anymore by the 2070s (even though it can still happen with a mixed pairing). Trolls and orks can be born to troll and ork parents, so they dont need humans to make more. The term 'breeder' stuck because sometimes slang sticks around even when its no longer really accurate.
>>
>>49945078
Also because its insulting and orks have a long list of reasons to insult humans.

They would resent elves as well but humans make up a much larger proportion of the world's population and thus are a more accesible target.

So my players threw me a curveball. They had gotten themselves involved a run that involved a carjacking.

>Tracking down street racing ricefag
>Find out about a shortcut he takes on his rides.
>Is sketchy ass alleyway in Downtown
>Rigger and Sam prepare an ambush, readied with silenced high-powered rifle
>Target is riddled with bullets, ride jacked, and driven to lockup owned by Contact,

Now the Johnson who set them up just wanted the racer murked. He was paying peanuts so the players want to see what they can do with the car. What kind of challenges does the contact have to deal with a hot car in the 6th World, with things like ShadowLoJack, GridGuide, and Magic? I assumed he'd need a Decker to disable networked security, and maybe a Mage to eye it down.

I really want to agree with you, but we can't say that if we're assuming that 3 is the average Attribute score (which we do). The most charismatic Troll will get to 4 (5 with a Quality). But Trolls' Charisma starts at 1, which means the average Troll is going to be at 2. Buuuuut, Charisma =/= prettiness.

They do, its just orks call them dandelion eaters not breeders.

Also allegedly elves have a natural charisma that makes them hard to hate, even when they act like complete douchebags, which btw is always.

Also in theory elves are usually still subjugated to racism, so solidarity against the normies. One of the reasons they are invited in Tir.

Granted Orks are in Tir mostly to be mexicans but the orks don't know that. Because Tir is a awful nation run by awful people.

Not as much as you'd think. Sure you have to watch for gridguide but you can probbably fake the owners SIN and make it look like it parked very innocently in a garage and then coinidantly completely vanished as the Mafia turns it into spare parts.

Based on your magic score. Assuming you get some rigger ware, your magic score will not be good. Like, if you had 6 magic, this would be useful, but you shouldn't have 6 magic.

Depending on when in the 2050s the game takes place, Otaku might not exist either. They weren't around until the later (2e and 3e) years.

To be honest, the differences between Technomancers and Otaku are mostly mechanical. Otaku need a bit of cyber (ASIST/datajack) to connect to the Matrix where a Technomancer's body interacts with radio waves. Once they're both in full VR, they're effectively the same thing: they do internet magic, hack things with their minds, and compile internet spirits to help them, all with Resonance abilities. Any differences in their capabilities are just differences in the crunch between editions and if you really wanted an Otaku in your 2050s game you could just throw some low-cost cyber on a Technomancer, remove AR entirely, and use the rest of the Technomancer rules without thinking too hard about it.

Powerblade isn't that bad a spell, most people don't seem to recognize that the spellcasting hits for it only really matter for the purposes of dispelling.

Until you get into over 6 forces, or have somebody with hardened armor, it's not much better than having an actual katana, say. It's even less good if you had an actually decent Str rating.

Manablade, though, is a real nasty at just about any force above three... as long as you have a good enough blade or club pool to regularly hit with.

Go to the OP pastebin
there should be a link to a pdf named "GM Advice"
READ IT
Afterwards ask your GM what books he allows
READ THOSE BOOKS. There's a link to them in the Pastebin
Download chummer5. Download link is in the OP. One of the devs posts here as yekka. Go to the settings and select the books your GM allows.

>any suggested totem for a 5e shaman/face?
>do you think that totem would work well in 5e? if not what should change?
It depends. Mentor Spirits (this is what they are called since 4e) Are viable. In 5e they should be in the Corebook and in Street Grimoire.
The list you linked isn't usable since
>Mentor Spirits don't depend on environment
>There are no "City Spirits"
>Different kind of dice tests

Read up on the (mentor) spirits that are there. Remember: The Spirits don't have to be called that way. Some may call Bear, some may call a saint of healing, some may call some different animal. What matters is stats and behavior.

Once you did this you can ask further. Any Questions?
>>
>>49954628
>There are no "City Spirits"
i ment spirit of man
from what my dm says you can only summon spirits in their environment
also i have chummer 5 and it's a mess to use
my last (poorly optimized) character died and thats why im rolling a new one
i wanted to just plug in my old character to see how much karma he earned since creation but im having a ton of problems (dm says i can add half of that karma to my new guy)
as most of our missions take place in a city it makes sense that i would want bonus dice to summon those types of spirits
i do appreciate the help btw

Chummer5 character files are .chum5. What did you use previously?

>as most of our missions take place in a city it makes sense that i would want bonus dice to summon those types of spirits
Again, in 4e and 5e it doesn't matter where you are if you want to summon a spirit. It's just as difficult to summon a spirit of man in a corp complex as it is on a farm

>i do appreciate the help btw
you're welcome

>this is my first game of shadowrun and i have been doing horribly
wait. You had a previous Sr character. But this is your first game. What?

yes i know
the dm helped me make the character but i made some poor choices when i was making him
1. i was a shaman and only took magic as priority b
2. i made my character out to be a mafia criminal and roleplayed him as such but the group roleplays as goody 2 shoes who can do no wrong but just so happen to steal and murder people
so there was some conflict there as well

yeah, if your GM uses 3e rules as well then no wonder you can't recreate your character in a tool for making 5e characters only

Methuman Adjustment is 500¥ per seat. If that's breaking the bank for you, rigger probably isn't the best career choice you could have made.

As for skills, you need Gunnery and Pilot, and Electronic Warfare if you use drones. You might WANT the electronics and engineering skill groups to maintain your vehicles yourself, but it's easily handwaved by a high-loyalty mechanic contact.

Hell, just giving a human the same statline as a pixie in karmagen costs 110 Karma.

>>49954707
Why on earth does your GM not know how much Karma he's given you?

yeah, Cyberpunk is a game with a certain take on cyberpunk, while cyberpunk is a genre that spans many flavors, one of them being shadowrun

you might think Cyberpunk is generic cyberpunk, but it still has it's own take on a bunch of things, so when i say 4e feels like generic cyberpunk i don't mean it feels like Cyberpunk, i mean it feels somewhat detached from shadowrun's feel and fills in certain aspects of the game with things that you'd find in different works that make use of the cyberpunk genre - for example, proper decking being gone and hacking being the big thing in 4e's universe

Shadowrun 4th feels like someone couldn't decide whether they wanted Ghost in the Shell, 1984, Neuromancer, or to just say fuck it and go full Lord of the Rings.

The game's setting feels like a haphazard mishmash of everything the writers could think of, with some vain attempt to redefine a dead genre instead of just going in to a new genre (Transhumanism + 1984 kind of is the modern equiv to cyberpunk, whatever you'd call that) or sticking with actual cyberpunk.
>>
>>49958248
well, that encapsulates the feeling i have much more than "it feels like generic cyberpunk"

you're right, it feels like they were trying to go for a lot of shit at the same time and i guess that's why i felt like it was generic
>>
>>49958271
But it's not generic /cyberpunk/. Generic cyberpunk would be, admittedly, the Sprawl Trilogy (More or less because a lot of work deviated off of it), or Shadowrun's 1E and 2E settings.

As I said, it just feels like a big genre mishmash and a poor attempt to "modernize" something instead of making a new model, so to say.

So how do you imagine a drone reloads its weapons, then?
"Works as normal" is an easy way to handwave it, which only becomes problematic when you go into the details of how exactly that works with Agility-based reloading, so it's not surprising that would be missed.

On the other hand, "all gets refitted to a 250-round internal magazine" is also an easy way to handwave it, which only becomes problematic when you go into the details of why that doesn't cost a LOT of money and how that works with mounting/dismounting, so it's not surprising that would be missed.

I think a weapon mount alone means a drone just can't reload it's weapon. If it balzes all its glory, its back to dad for more candy cash aka "some reload my weapon pls, I don't have hands to do that". And Ammo Bin just replacing the original magazine, no. Why would that be possible, if you tinker on a Superwarhawk to make it a 250(m) instead of a 6(cy), you just broke something. It's basically a Superwarhawk Barrel with an entierly new weapon behind it. That can't be right.

im hoping the new character lets me enjoy the game more, if not ill just drop it and it'll be hella awkward when he walks past me in the club having a blast in my dnd 3.5 game with a dm who treats his players great
>>
>>49959314
Yeah, that is hilarious, but still a weird example. It's like taking a boy who dies from cancer as an example and evidence for the human life span being only around 23, the age the boy died. But as I already said, there is a mod that makes weapons belt fed, so nmw, but its NOT Ammo Bin. And thats my problem, Ammo bin seems to be useless, apart from giving already belt fed weapons more shots, but it's written like it's for all weapons. I will just give my player the expanding mod to make non-belt fed weapons belt fed, but it will cost him mod points and more cash. It's just not written in a good way. And btw, not giving every weapon a drone carries reloding or 250+ bullets, when almost all weapons worth using are high-mag is not quite making them "useless". Still thanks for the feedback, though

How do you decide what city you're gonna run your campaign in?
>>

1. What city do you want to run a campaign in?

5. How good are you at world building?

I ask the players. Literally the first thing that someone throws out is where we play, unless someone immediately has a counter-city and there's more support for that. Either way, it's decided within about 2 minutes of Session 0.

My players know I am a sad lonely worldbuildfag with nothing better to do than spend all my time not working my job developing a city into it's SR version, using nothing but reference material from 20 years ago and Wikipedia articles on local culture

i recommend practising playing such characters in a less crunch heavy and less serious game to develop an effective system before moving to shadowrun.

my first character who communicated though images, charades, and such was played in a game of MAID.

She was the ascended spirit of a recently restored mansion inhabiting the skeleton of a murder victim who's ghost the spirit had imprinted on and hung out with for about 45 years before the ghost made peace and moved on.

The rest of the party dubbed her "Dem Bones" and she could only communicate though written words, charades, and exaggerated body language.

I played her for a few months to get to grips with conveying emotions and thoughts with no face an no voice.

Your train-wreck of a character seems to have been built with multiple B priorities, as far as I can tell. Magic is prooooobably C? Also you can't start with a rating 6 spellcasting foci.

It's easier to make in karmagen, but everything is easier to make in karmagen.

One of the corpses had a fuckton of paydata implanted in a chip under his skull. There's a hacker looking for it now. Or a Ghoul-Break in flavored like a dungeon crawl with guns

>By any chance would anyone have a chart for metatype to dong size? My group is trying to figure out if ork dicks are actually bigger than human dicks and that's why the elves go for orks.

Getting ORKED is just a pop culture bullshit thing.

Now Trolls on the other hand...

Well see, my character lives in a racially profiled neighborhood and has never seen a dong that isn't human or elf, so we're trying to get a reference point here. I've heard trolls actually have smaller dongs than normal.

Also orks don't have a long lifespan so their genitals have to compensate so they can breed more, right? Orks have to have something going on to ensure more orks happen.

>Also orks don't have a long lifespan so their genitals have to compensate so they can breed more, right?

That makes no sense at all. Look if you want your Ork to have a big elf killing dick get him cyber genitalia. For bonus points add a holdout pistol to it.
>>
>>49978370
It makes plenty. From an evolutionary standpoint, the Ork creatures need to breed quickly and mature quickly, and die quickly, so they've likely got an insane libido. Since there's now all these thirsty fucking orks, you'd need something going on to compete with other Orks. So either Duck Corkscrew Penis, Hook Wolf Penis, or Giant Omega Dong Penis.
>>
>>49978370
Well my old character was a troll minotaur with a jackhammer penis and cyberboobs, but this time I decided to keep it simple with a pure human female, so no augments.

Problem is, coming from FATAL, SR5 really doesn't have metatype charts for genital size at all, unless there's some lore somewhere I missed.
>>
>>49978444

I always figured that Orks knotted or something..
>>
>>49978453
>coming from FATAL

bullshit, nobody plays FATAL

>>49978477
Get drunk and make a bunch of people roll for anal circumference and see who dies to anal tearing first. It's actually pretty great.

>>49978476
Yeah I mean they have to have something. Traditional pop culture just has giant orc dongs but I need to find out if that's true or not.
>>
So if you were to spend Corpscrip for a corporation you don't have a SIN for, is it likely they will tax you more? Or discount you for going out of your way to shop at their subsid?
>>
>>49978349
The thing that orks have going for them from a breeding perspective is that their women almost always have multiple births. Fraternal twins are the norm, sometimes with them splitting into one or two sets of identical twins too. Add on to that the fact that a 12-year-old ork is the physical equivalent of an 18-year-old but with only 12 years of life experience and common sense, and you get a whole lot of ork babies very quickly. Plus, some sources imply that ork women give birth after only six months of pregnancy rather than nine.

The ork men don't really feature into the breeding logistics. Since babies conceived by orks are almost always orks regardless of the other parent's metatype, ork women reproduce like this no matter what men they're with. And the multiple birth thing is only for ork women - a female elf impregnated by a male ork is going to have elf-style gestation and birthing, but of a baby ork.

Anyway, ork dongs are probably slightly bigger than human dongs on average (with plenty of variance) because orks are slightly bigger than humans, and a man's healthy body weight is the most strongly-correlated factor for penis size. Far moreso than ethnicity or anything else like that. So, a nearly troll-sized motherfucker of an ork statistically has a high probability of having a big dick. One who's small for an ork - or even on the short side for a human - probably less so.

Also, a reminder that humans are the fragile, weak metatype, not elves. Humans are the second shortest (after dwarves), and tied for the worst Body and Strength, identical to elves. Elves are equal to or better than humans in every physical stat, and are taller than humans too.

Since theres no ruger thunderbolt in 5e yet, could I just grab a guardian and say its a thunderbolt? they have similar stats right?
>>
>>49978598
They'll probably just treat it as a normal purchase.
>>
>>49978759
Yeah, a Guardian is mechanically more or less just a Thunderbolt, and vice versa.
>>
>>49978598
I doubt they'd care. The point of corpscrip is to make dumbasses spend their money at SK stores. It doesn't really matter who that dumbass is.
>>
>>49978832
I'd definitely see that at first, but wouldn't it be useful for the corps to create an illusion that scrip is more valuable than money? Or on the flipside, hit said dumbasses with unseen fees and taxes so their scrip is worth even less? I feel like the last thing you'd want to do is create some dead sub-economy with all of your people roped in who would eventually need to jockey for real NuYen.
>>
>>49978989
>wouldn't it be useful for the corps to create an illusion that scrip is more valuable than money?
No. Historically, it was worth a lot less, cuz the corps charged absurd amounts for things. After all, when you get paid in Horizon Fun Bucks, ain't anywhere else you get to spend it.
>Or on the flipside, hit said dumbasses with unseen fees and taxes so their scrip is worth even less?
Nah. It's not unseen. It's written right there on the price tag.

I appreciate your efforts to select skills, ware, and adept powers that suited the backstory, but some of those flavoring decisions are in places you'd otherwise be enhancing your core dice pools. If a player brought this sheet to me I would probably recommend they pick between adept and cyber then rebuild with more advantageous priorities.

So Trolls seem to vary wildly in body size. There seem to be tall-human sized trolls, and then big mother fuckers that can't fit in cars.

So I assume the dick action is the same thing.

In any case if IRL humans are capable of Mandingo dicks then I'd assume everything but Pixies are capable of gargantushlong and teeny dicks.
>>
Does a Decker need to buy a commlink, in addition to their deck?
I've always assumed a deck did everything a commlink can and more, but I'm just realizing I don't think that's actually stated anywhere.
>>
>>49979529
They function as commlinks, but commlinks are legal for anyone to own and decks aren't.
>>
I'm making an infiltrator/sniper/recon guy for our team and I figured giving him a fly spy or other spy drone like the lockheed would be a pretty damn good idea, but I dont want to go full rigger.

Would I still need an RCC to protect them or could I get away with a nice commlink?
>>
>>49980008

You need a Rigger Control Console to use drones yes, but you don't need the Control Rig Cyberware or anything.
