I ran a Pathfinder game in Faerun.

There was a Paladin of Torm who wore full plate around Venice, and he broke his adamantine sword while trying to smite an ooze.
There was a Warpriest of Tempus who was almost killed by two sea-gargoyles. She used a Hero point to survive the encounter. The sea-gargoyles had levels in Ranger.

There was an NPC Paladin of Sune, and the party Rogue threw out most of the mementos of his late wife while looking for treasure. She stole some magical studded leather. I was going to have the Paladin come out of retirement to hunt her down.
There was an NPC Aasimar Paladin of Mystra who escorted that same Rogue into the Plane of Shadow to purify a school on the Material plane. She missed the flag a few sessions later to have him avoid getting in a fight. He was at low enough hit points to get one-shotted by a half-dragon Erinyes that the Rogue was fighting. I was going to have the Aasimar get raised to track down the Rogue's boss.

That Rogue really hated knights.

At level 1 in full plate? Yes that should be a thing.
At level 20 in full plate? It's a very minor effect in exchange for 14 DR.
In between? If it's a concern at your level consider using something slightly less than full plate to reap the DR benefits and minimize CMD penalties.
Allowing enemies to use their turns for things other than full attacks is also a plus. It reduces rocket tag effect and adds interest to the game.

>>
>>49913933
Recall that Combat Maneuvers are slanted against PCs.

They stop working later in the game because everything ends up being fuckhuge, and they likely won't be wearing armor.

The ones it DOES work on are people who DO wear armor.
>>
>>49913933
>I always do.
But you don't give sufficient explanation. "Full Plate AC/DR Progression". What the fuck is that?
>>
>>49913959
I'm aware, eventually enemy CMDs end up so high that players have no chance of Combat Maneuvers against them much less tumble checks past them. That's why the penalty should be kept static to armor's base values, while the AC and DR scale with magic bonuses. The result is that at high levels your defensive bonuses progress while your penalty becomes minor in relative terms because everything else scales.
>>49913986
I'm sorry this is continued from the discussion last thread. Someone proposed AC granted by armor giving equal DR. The "Progression" here is an estimation of what level the PC advances his armor, going by when it's very reasonable by his WBL to do so.

Gun Rules v1.pdf
1B, 486x500px
Alright. Navaros stuff. Need some eyes.

Writing out some equipment stuff, how does this set of rules look. As a baseline.

strength ratings off the top of my head

none for Derringer/Revolver

10 for a repeater rifle

12 for a shotty

16 for the hunting rifle (can be fired without that strength while prone)

20 for a gatling gun (unmounted, aka, some psycho carrying one around)

Scatter rules are a different firing mode, where the weapon fires in a cone, so 30ft cone for shotgun OR it can be fired normally, (might increase its damage die for normal fire, and it gets a smaller one for scatter)

Gatling gun can fire normally or in a scatter spray that does half their damage dice (probably need to make it so its not dex to damage to everything in the cone? Or just 1 thing? idk)

Any opinions.
>>
>>49914027
Are these CMD penalties the same for all maneuvers?

So is it easier to shove around a guy in full plate? Easier to disarm him? Sunder his weapon?

Something other than a CMD penalty.

And honestly look at it this way.

Early game, armor is super helpful. +9 AC from full plate can make you super hard to hurt in the early game.

It's later on where it starts to fall off a little since AC becomes a less relevant defense.

Your proposed rules make it BETTER at early levels.

Gatling should be 6d6 large
Shotgun large is 2d6: there's a progression in the system for these things you know
1d10 goes to 2d8 when large, not 2d6 that's 1d8s
2d8 goes 3d8 and 4d8, not 3d6 and 3d8.

For things 1d6 or higher, when you go up a size, the maximum damage increases by 150%, rounded down to nearest d6 or d8 value depending on previous die types. Thus 2d6<3d6<4d6<6d6<8d6<12d6<16d6<24d6<32d6<48d6<72d6<108d6 and so on. d8s are the same. 1d12 COUNTS as 2d6 for size growth so a large 2d6 becomes 3d6 right away, while 1d10 grows to 2d8, and this applies to multiples of those dice (a 2d12 double-hackbut becomes 6d6 when large, a railgun becomes 6d8).

And yes, things keep climbing past colossal for damage scale.
>>
>>49914171
actually the official damage dice progressions would make it 4d6 > 4d8 > 6d6 > 6d8

Which is actually far more mathematically sound.
>>
>>49914178
The official dice damage chart moves ahead two steps after 1d8. Multiple d8s are only reserved for 1d10 weapon tracks.

So trip, reposition, maybe bullrush? Going off the ACP seems neat since it's basically already the stat to account for the difficuly of wearing armor, but heavier armors would suffer even more at -6 for full plate.
>>49914149
Sorry I didn't propose the DR thing, someone else did. I like the idea but I'd never incorporate it. I'm just tinkering with ways to tweak it for those sad unchained rogue players last thread who lament not being able to 1 shot an enemy in full plate at level 1.

So yes stupid.
>>
>>49914138
That's overly complicated.

Instead short, simple set of options:
>Portability (determines weight, concealability, die type and max Strength Bonus by material)
>Strength (strength bonus of the crossbow)
>Loading Type (allows you to draw far more than you could hand-pull)
>Material (duh)

Concealable (hand/wristmount): 1d4: Max Strength Bonus = 1/2 Material Hardness
Light: 1d6: Max SB = 3/4 Material Hardness
Standard (2h): 2d4: Max SB = Hardness
Heavy: 2d8: Max SB = 125% Hardness

Strength: = Strength Bonus. Affects cost. Cannot load higher SB by hand.

Loading:
>Hand-Drawn: No-Action (as bows) if SB lower than your own, else Free action but provoking possible if SB Equal. Cannot load higher SB.

>Lever (pull or push): Allows loading of crossbow up to 3SB above self. Move action base reload

>Stirrup: Allows loading of crossbow up to +6SB above self. Full Round action base reload

>Cranequin: Allows loading of crossbow up to +10SB above self. 2 Full Rounds base reload

>Windlass: No limit. 4 Full Rounds base reload
>>
>>49914439
>Repeater Upgrade: Reduces loading by 1 step while ammunition remains. Replacing magazine instead adds one step (Cranequin becomes 1rd or 4rd to replace mag). Incompatible with Stirrups.

>Clockwork Upgrade: Advanced gears or basic magitech remove provocation from reloading. Reloading done automatically but at repeater speed (so you can put it down as it winds up for a round if you must) while ammunition remains. Also available as steam/pneumatic system in other regions/settings.

>High-Tech: Capable of mounting sights as firearms, integral clockwork system (without the massive increase in weight), integral Compound upgrade. Accelerated bolts: 50% chance to negate cut/smash/deflect/snatch or equivalent effects and affects counter-maneuvers as if firearm while powered. Counts as hand-loaded (and likely impossible to draw as a result by most) if unpowered.

>Repeater Magazines available in 5, 10(unwieldy, -1 hit unless clockwork or high-tech), and if clockwork/tech, 20 bolt drums as well.

>Crossbow Mastery reduces by 1 step above and beyond Rapid Reload. Does not apply if a clockwork or technological crossbow is left unattended while autoloading.
>>49914401

>>

Crossbows are one of the greatest weapons ever made by humans

>>
>>49914523
>greatest weapon made by humans

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Heavy Crossbow" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Crossbows deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine crossbow in Italy for 4,500 Euro (that's about £2000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even pierce slabs of solid steel with my crossbow.

European smiths spend days working on a single crossbow and test it up to two dozen times to produce the finest peasant weapon known to mankind.

Crossbows are thrice as easy to train as an English Longbow and thrice as deadly for that matter too. Anything a bodkin arrow can punch through, a crossbow bolt can punch through better, and more accurately too. I'm pretty sure a crossbow could easily pierce the lung of a Gendarme wearing full plate with a simple trigger pull.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering medieval Europe? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Crossbowmen and their implements of destruction. Even in the Fifteenth Century, the Vatican banned the use of crossbows against Christians because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Crossbows are simply the best ranged weapon that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Crossbows:

Light Crossbow (Two-Handed Martial Weapon) 1d12 Damage 19-20 x4 Crit +2 to hit and damage Range 200ft

Heavy Crossbow (Two-Handed Exotic Weapon) 2d10 Damage 17-20 x4 Crit +5 to hit and damage Range 280ft

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Crossbows in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Crossbows need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.

>>
>>49914582
>>49914582

Here's the breakdown: Stealth can be triggered every time you move, for any reason, as long as you are within 10 feet of dim light. Combat patrol allows you to expand your threatened area by 5 ft per 5 BAB, and allows you to move as part of these attacks.

Your actions in combat are therefore as follows:

Round 1: If spring attack, move (while in stealth), attack, then move into position for maximum AoOs (while using that movement for stealth)

Round 2+: Break stealth in the middle of the enemy formation and set up combat patrol. Take a free action to tell them they fight like a dairy farmer. If they move towards you, move (and enter stealth while doing so) and then attack. repeat as neccesary.

The best part? Your combat actions actually mirror how shadowdancers work in fluff, what with bouncing in and out of stealth, appearing and dissapearing in a whirling dervish of steel and shadow. No one will know if they can actually hit you where you're at, because you might not still be there when they get to you.

also part of a no magic campaign with an average of 2 other players so far, so getting that shadow companion is kinda nice for an extra flanking buddy. Might just drop the extra levels of shadowdancer for more paladin... maybe.
>>
>>49914487
>60ft cone
shouldn't it at least be based on the weapon's range?

Why wouldn't it get bigger if you've got a Distance weapon backed by Empowered Shots? And that's one hell of a wideass spray, when you make a 'cone'.

but mostly Katanas

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Bastard Sword" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:

(One-Handed Exotic Weapon)
1d12 Damage

Counts as Masterwork

(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon)

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Padded Armor" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Cloth Armor deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine gambeson in England for 200 Pounds (that's about $100) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even deflect slabs of solid steel with my cloth armor.

Medieval weavers spend weeks working on a single cloth armor and sew it up to a million times to produce the finest armor known to mankind.

Cloth armor is thrice as thick as metal armor and thrice as cheap for that matter too. Any longsword metal armor could deflect, cloth armor could deflect too. I'm pretty sure a cloth armor wearing pikeman could easily duel a knight wearing full plate with a simple readied spear.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered getting rid of their infantry? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined infantry and their cloth armor of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men wearing cloth first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Cloth armor is simply the best armor that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for cloth armor:

Hell, someone's head might blow off and THEN you hear the sound of the thing firing.

Two different thoughts I combined into one because it's late. Saying you shouldn't be able to dodge stuff because we aren't capable isn't a valid thing when people can fly and turn into sandwiches and create their own demi-planes filled with sexy clones.

Another thought is to hit normal ac because it works fine for every other weapon.
>>
>>49914831
Anything that negates dex to AC negates dodge as well.

"Resolves against" would take the number, whereas "the target is flatfooted" means not only that everyone's immune to it anyways by mid levels, but also would open them up before that point to sneak damage and all sorts of other stuff just because of the weapon choice.

Except armor penetration is a thing, and there IS a difference between an two-foot arrow flying at 212fps towards you and something just the size of the arrow's head flying at five times that towards you.

Likewise, magic somehow targets your touch-AC because while you can dodge it somehow, you can't interpose your armor even when it's a beam of fire or the like, to even reduce damage a little.

I always liked kendal for silver crane. Particularly 2nd from left.

He fights with a bec-de-corbin and a mace/morningstar, controlled on different buttons in game. Left hand was for smaller quicker mace attacks, right hand was for bec-de-corbin attacks which were sweeping and could bind enemies and pull them to you.

You never see his face in game, but he'd go up against anything - from Regnier (the guy deserves his own wiki page) to ogres to giant fucking scorpions to bone dragons to an army of darkness representing entropy itself.

I asked a few threads back about coming up with a cow made of bad ideas. I finally settled (with help) on a cow mutated by a farmboy practicing alchemy - complete with ingredient substitutions and a hilariously horrifying series of crit fails.
The cow was a hit. I now present The Bessies
Bessies (also called goblin cows for the only species stupidly brave enough to raise them) are a really mutated breed of cow. At the largest, they are Huge size, and Small at the youngest parts of their lives. The mutations are as follows:
>Really tough leather plated hide
>Antlers
>Sharp spinal ridges
>Glowing blue eyes
>Shits and farts alchemists fire
>A prehensile tongue twice their body length
>Oddly exfoliating saliva
>Quick growth (smallest size to largest in 1 month)
>Egg layers
Upon death, the head must removed within 1 round, or else the body splits into 3 Bessies two size categories smaller, leaving a quarter of the body mass behind as bones, meat, hide, and organs.
If the head is removed, the body lives for an additional 30 minutes, before collapsing into death. The severed head lives for an additional week before dying as well.
Bessies live for 1 month after they hit their final growth, and before dying of tasty organ failure lay 3-12 eggs that hatch after 1 week.
Their meat is edible, tasting much like hickory-smoked bear, with a subtle tanginess.

Pathfinder's pantheon is shit, but homophobia's also kind of a massive dick move, so, uh. Yeah, I kinda agree with that.
>>
>>49916698
Had a go at this for copy editing. Do what you want with the suggestions.
>>
>>49916796
My personal take on it is that most gods are mildly ambivilent towards homosexuality, except for fertility gods - who depending on their personal inclination, might see a 3 way hetero-homo relationship as just fine (happens sometimes in nature), they might mildly frown on relationships that don't produce children (so m/m homosexuality is 'bad', but f/f is 'tolerable' if a child comes out of it), they might dislike it altogether, or they might see it as beyond their domain ("I care about the fertility of viable pairings, I dont give a shit about nonviable ones").

The 'mildly frown one' could have priests that are willing to facilitate surrogacy.
>>
>>49916886

Thanks a damn lot. That last ability proved to be a bitch to try to explain in formal language even if the concept 'You reveal all deception' is pretty simple because pathfinder has many different ways to disguise that don't overlap in system.
>>
>>49916918
It's worth keeping in mind that in a setting with magic, homosexuality is not really a barrier to pregnancy. Not to mention trans people are extant - there's gotta be some way to set up a sperm bank so a trans lesbian can get her girlfriend pregnant after she's on HRT.

(If only this was 3.5e. Quintessence would be PERFECT.)
>>
A character I have wants to contact an old party member. What's the cheapest way to do this, given she doesn't know his location or place of residence? Access to a paladin spell each day, and probably able to find low-level spellcasting services from 4-level and 6-level casters, possibly a 15th-level druid.
>>
>>49916997

Does she have a piece of him laying around somewhere? A bit of hair, maybe an old scrap of clothes?
>>
>>49917011
No, but he is both a fey and an undead creature, if it matters.

The /helping hand/ spell (cast by a warpriest) seems like a good option given his very distinct appearance, if nothing else pops up.
>>
>>49917046

>>49917076

>>
>>49916959
Actually, in a setting with this level of magic, there shouldn't *BE* any kind of "trans" other than the "robots in disguise" variety.

You drink a potion and you're done. You are now whichever of the two you weren't before. Even freaks stuck in the middle can probably get themselves functioning properly, no idea if it works on the genetic errors born with neither. There's no years of self-loathing unless the self-loathing is explicitly what you're into (CRYSTAL). There's even less, way less, stigma thanks both to a lack of social media and the fact that it's a total conversion (as opposed to some plastic surgery and massive hormonal fuckery to pretend you're not a man).

And those ARE errors; humans aren't supposed to be born with no reproductive organs whatsoever any more than they're supposed to be born with no left lung. Don't mean they're not people, but something didn't work right making them.

Also 'homophobia' has always been a funny term, mostly because it's hard not to imagine some religious redneck panicking and running around screaming "THEY'RE IN MY HAIR, GET THEM OUT, GET THEM OUT OH GODS" like it was spiders or bats or big black skeletons or all the other phobias.

Must be awkward as fuck to try and explain yourself at a pride parade if your phobia's actually rainbows though!
>>
>>49917114
>4th-level spell Sending
>5th-level spell Dream
Pretty unlikely given that the only 6-level casters that can cast those are "legendary", at least to /legend lore/. None of those want to associate with a retired holy warrior chump.
>>
>>49917186

>Retired holy warrior looking for her dead fae compatriot

>>
>>49916698

Alright, based on some feedback I got I'd done some minor edits to the phenomenal prestidigitator.

I've made the Stage Persona an optional level 1 thing with an alternate option (Any suggestions on other level 1 tricks that are as minor as those two would be cool). After all, Alternate Identities are not really a functional or even useful thing for a lot of pathfinder games. So now there is an option for your tomb robbing, loot stealing needs.
>>
>>49917125
'freaks stuck in the middle'? Fuck, man, call 'em intersexed people. S'just a dick move there. Besides, 'trans' means assigned something at birth that you don't identify with. Just because taking a potion is easier than years of hormone replacement therapy doesn't make being trans not a THING. HRT and surgery can make a trans girl fucking indistinguishable from a cis girl barring invasive surgery or karyotyping, but WE'VE still got predjudice. Your conservative family is going to kick you out REAL fast if you pop into town and buy a potion that turns your innie into an outie. Transphobia isn't based in intense karyotyping and an allergy to the Y chromosome, it's based in "OH GOD SHE WAS BORN A MAN, THAT MAKES ME GAY".

(I've actually seen 'transantagonism' suggested as an alternate term, on account of "you're not scared, you're just an asshole", actually.)

Trans people don't stop being trans when they have surgery, and they wouldn't because they popped a potion of-

Wait what the hell spells ARE there that can give you an Instantaneous sex change? I mean, you don't want that to be dispellable, so Polymorph Any Object, while workable, is off the table. I guess if you can swing it as a Bestow Curse, then it's gonna be a bit more resilient, but... there really aren't many instantaneous transformation spells. And who the hell in setting is going to run around blowing EIGHTH LEVEL SPELL SLOTS on SRS? There wouldn't even BE people that do that, would there? That'd fuck over Crystal's MUH STRUGGLE.
>>
>>49917309
You know that's not how biological sex is defined, right? If it's based on hormone profiles, they're a menopausal woman, if it's based on external genitalia, they're a woman, if it's based on INTERNAL genitalia, then people who have ovarian cancer and have it removed have NO sex, if it's based on secondary sexual characteristics, then fucking dudes with gynacomastia are women.

Also, that's literally your opinion. There are going to be other people who think that even a magical transformation won't matter and that's JUST as mutilation-y, and there are going to be people who AREN'T shitheads like you and just go "yeah sure, you're a girl" because considering someone a girl is REAL fucking easy and doesn't influence your life in any way. But I guess you're getting awful triggered on this issue, so maybe you should head back to tumblr and find a less anonymous circlejerk where you never have to hear anyone who disagrees.

To be fair, when your life is farming and worrying about being orc-raped at night, being eaten by monsters or watching your family starve to death this winter due to a bad crop, you have neither the time nor the inclination to start weaving every discomfort or problem in your life into a "it's because I'm not a woman and was meant to be" mindset.

It's a bit more of a "first world problem" than a starving peasant who's never had the idea repeatedly driven into his head would ever really have.

Yeah, basically. The dysphoria (which is the fancy word for that 'off' feeling) is gonna be there either way, but he's probably gonna consider 2250 gp WAY too much to fix it even if he DID know what it was.

Relatedly, there are a number of natural substitutes (primitive HRT) - plants that act to block androgen receptors, pregnant cow urine FILLED with estrogen, etc. Gonna be a LOT cheaper to get those on a daily basis than the potion, which is probably gonna be more similar to SRS - a big final step that costs a fuckton of money.

As you said, the very concept of transsexualism is a newish thing with third genders in the historical record being less "this man is actually a woman due to mental development" and more "this man is actually a woman due to spiritual reasons and fulfills this role in society."

Like, an Elf man that thinks he's a woman wouldn't transition to be a woman, he would be lead to believe they're an aspect of Corellion and placed in the church as a priest or something.

SO. I hate how overpowered wizards are! I like maneuvers. We have a lot of maneuver schools.

So I homebrewed a Wizard archetype that has no spells, only maneuvers, keeping the same fluff as the normal wizard (mostly).

Feedback is greatly appreciated!

Just from looking over it, it seems like there's no reason for me to play this class. It's a D6 HD 3/4 BAB martial class with no real class features beyond 6th level initiating.

Am in agreement. Shift spellcasting stat to Str, let them prepare martial strikes in place of wizard spells. Let them apply metamagic feats to their martial strikes.

I am writing a campaign where the party slowly discovers a cult and then has to foil their plots. I also recently watched Phantom of the Opera so I want to include a masquerade, the party is going to be trying to discover the cultists before they find and kill a particular nobleman. The party will not know the target but I want to give them some way of identifying cult members, a mark or a ring or something I'm just not sure what
>>
>>49918415
I do not agree with the morons who still want it to be a spellcaster with maneuvers, but I think they should get some class features that are magical effects that "fake" being martial.

Give them force field armor, body enhancing magic, temp hp shields, etc. This is a wizard who's faking being a martial but doesn't have the stats to back it up. Let's go spelldancer-lite and persist the buffs needed to fake it properly.

Yeah, sounds good. They have a regenerating pool of temp HP now (up to twice their level) so they have a small buffer of HP before each fight, and their int-to-AC is now deflection. I started typing up something about this earlier but then I forgot.

The potion is about 2250g if you go by the one listed in the book, however if you go by its effect and some of the item creation rules IIRC, it ends up coming down to a *fairly reasonable* 500g ish potion. Then if you apply real-world like principles where rich patrons / people with insurance are charged more so-as to cover the costs for unfortunates who *cannot* pay for things quite as easily, the potion becomes even more affordable.

A non-optimized character can make a decent chunk of change in a year using various versions of the profession / craft abilities with only one point in it so they're "trained". Even just basket weaving, "optimized" characters can easily make more money (ie, more points allocated to the skill, assuming that you get level ups, feats taken for it, potential racial skillpoints alloted, higher stat bonuses). IIRC with a single skillpoint non-optimized characters would be able to afford the 2250g version in about 4 years of 8hr a day 5 days a week work.

This is something that's been gone over several times when it comes up, and plain and simple gender dysphoria should most likely not exist in a fantasy world. Especially when shit like elven nobles spending decent dosh to turn their sons into daughters and vice versa for a few years to pop out a few children for the local dragonslayer because eugenics and "animal husbandry", that subsidizes costs for less fortunate individuals.
>>
>>49918760
And remember 2250g is the *market* price, the actual price to make is 1125, which is cheap as dirt.

As a substitute to polymorph (a 5th level spell from a 9th level wizard which is where the "base cost" is derived from) the potion could concievably be made from an effect like the alter self spell (making it more limited in scope but permanent in duration) which would bring the potion down to about 150g to craft. Hell you could even bump it up a level and it would still be super fucking affordable.

Unfortunately your little scheme falls afoul of the rule that prevents continuous true strike effects.

>The correct way to price an item is by comparing its abilities to similar items (see Magic Item Gold Piece Values), and only if there are no similar items should you use the pricing formulas to determine an approximate price for the item. If you discover a loophole that allows an item to have an ability for a much lower price than is given for a comparable item, the GM should require using the price of the item, as that is the standard cost for such an effect. Most of these loopholes stem from trying to get unlimited uses per day of a spell effect from the "command word" or "use-activated or continuous" lines of Table: Estimating Magic Item Gold Piece Values.

That said! They're now a 9 level initiator, as the lack of class features made the nerfed archetype progression unnecessary. They also don't have a BAB change anymore, instead gaining a bonus on strikes (effectively using True Strike's fluff.)
>>
>>49918951
Uh, it's modifying alter self to be considerably more limited in scope (instead of 'any small or medium', it's literally just swapping gender), not changing any stats or things (like alter self can) and making the duration permanent.

I'd say that it's relatively fair for a basis. Sure its houserules, but I'd say its a fair interpretation.

You're talking PC levels though, NPC thugs make like 5 silver per day for guard duty and general thug work. That's before accounting for their food costs, family, weapons and gear, other day to day expenses, and rent/tithes.
The wealth disparity between the nobles and the proletariat is immense by design.
>>
>>49918984
I was uh, writing a shitty story about it for /d/, wherein a human kills a dragon entirely by accident and the elf queen gets into a contest of one-upsmanship with the human and dwarf kingdoms. She says that instead of simply assuring that he'll have a place in history, she intends to guarantee it.

So she *asks* her court and the common women of the realm if they'll "lend" the dragonslayer the use of 10000 of their wombs, of course they'll be compensated - and she'll be the first to go.... and well due to capricious fae nature, way more than 10 000 agree. Because as she says - elves have always been greedy for the blood... and seed of heroes.

Some of the older elven nobility really enjoy recreational animal husbandry / eugenics, so decide to send their 'strongest' to create... things. Sometimes brothers just show up alongside sisters to "surrogate" for them or other such nonsense. There's also the small cult that likes to get cum-inflated.

It devolves into a giant clusterfuck where the accidental dragonslayer basically ends up peacefully enslaved to the elven kingdom as a fucktoy for the better part of 25 years... and he ends up siring *way more* than 10 000 children, because the first thing the elf queen introduces is magic items.

Pretty NSFW tangent.
>>
>>49919096

Basically, sometime back, a king started talking to his racist elf buddies about how there needed to be more good in the world. So he killed a bunch of bad guys. Then he decided that it wasn't enough to just kill bad guys when they came up, he needed to prevent bad guys from becoming bad, so he began a campaign of mass brainwashing and mindprobing to make sure people only had good thoughts. This went on until finally, he demanded that the gods themselves make him a god of "good" so that he could end evil forever. The gods responded by dropping a giant rock on him and everyone else in the biggest city in the world. When someone said "Was it really necessary to kill all those people?", the gods left in a huff.

The writers claimed this was all because the king tried to upset the delicate balance of good and evil, which always struck me as utter bullshit-partially because it implies the things the dipshit king did qualified in some way as "good", but mostly because it implies the universe is some kind of cosmic checkbook that needs to be "balanced".

Also, there's a lot of dragons.

A profession gives you half your check in gold over a week. Your level 1 Commoner averages 11.5/2 gold per week, or 5.75 gp/ week, or 8 silver pieces and some change / day. He comes just shy of 300 gp/ year in income, again before expenses and assuming dedicated work every single day.
>>
>>49919222
Isn't that a decent amount of money? I think I read someplace that 1 GP is about $100, so that's $30,000/year.
>>
>>49919262
Money value is most definitely not consistent.
>>
>>49919105

Sir, that story is lewd and I wholeheartedly support every syllable you just typed out.
>>
>>49919222
Remember that craft and profession are class skills for commoners. So they're starting off at +4 for a single skillpoint, not accounting for stat bonuses (and assuming a completely average 10 in all stats, which IIRC is the norm).

If they wanted to 'specialize' they could put whatever racial bonuses they have into relevant check (so for a human using npc array of 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8) and take skill focus, which would put them at around +2 from stats +3 from skill focus and +4 from skillpoint & class skill, for a total of +9.

At some point in time you're probably going to level up just from constant crafting / profession checks (because yes, that does happen), which can increase your ability.

And we're not even using alternate profession rules to do things like set up a shop. this is literally basket weaving at a cottage and then selling it later.
>>
>>49919307
It's also not accounting for things like getting bonuses from having a "well crafted workshop" (a +4 bonus) or "master tools" (IIRC a +2 bonus).
>>
>>49919385
It'd take like... 50 weeks for masterwork tools to pay for themselves?
>>
>>49918619
So, I had a funny thought. See how you can pay him $100/adventure to get content you want in? But there's only four slots? What if he were to, say, make $400 more per month but have to include new PoW archetypes for every single adventure?

The downside of course is that it would require giving him money.
>>
>>49919408
Masterwork tools range from 55g to 100g; so yeah they take a while to pay off, but if you're going to do craft / profession checks all day erry day, they are worth it I guess.

Presumably they add to having a "great workshop" which on average bumps up earnings by 3 gold (+4 & +2).

Best bet would be to inherit them from whoever you apprenticed under to learn your skill.

I mean, non-heroic NPC's start with 260g of wealth at level 1.
>>
>>49919408

And those tools will last you 50 years.
>>
>>49919307
NPCs cannot choose their ability scores, but a life time commitment to a craft could be represented by the skill focus as their feat. An NPC dedicated in this way will probably look at expert or something as his next level, but leveling from churning out baskets should take years, else every experienced merchant on the street would have 20+ levels. So at 912 gold per year from focusing on his profession, and his living expenses are now fairly trivial in this range, it's only going to take 3 years to save up for the sex change potion.
>>
>>49919506
>leveling from churning out baskets should take years

Downtime recommends handling it like milestones. You might get exp (sufficient to level) for earning your first 100g, or enticing your first important patron, but it starts to dry up as the milestones get higher and higher.

So maybe level 2 comes after about half a year of crafting, and level 3 comes after another year or so, but eventually you start to take time off to do things like have a family or the like.

>NPCs cannot choose their ability scores

True, but they are given an array which could concievably land them in the "perfect stats setup".

/tg/, I'm trying to more or less accurately build Kamen Rider Black in Pathfinder. I say more or less, because I'm trying to strike a balance between being true to the character and being useful to the party. I know the Vigilante class is the way to go, but I'm stuck in terms of specialization/archetype. Magical Child doesn't have enough offensive options, and while Warlock accurately simulates the weird energy crackle when he pulls off a finishing move, Kamen Rider isn't really a caster. Should I just go Avenger, taking the Fist of the Avenger talent?

Also: I've got access to everything on the SRD, 1st party content, and (if the DM doesn't think it's cheese, some 3rd party books. Nothing from 3.5.

Things I'd like to see out of it:
>most martials now have two sets of talents like the Vigilante, in addition to having their other gimmicks
>4+Int skill points minimum for any class that isn't an Intelligence-based fullcaster
>Vigilante drops dual identity gimmick, renamed into some generic jack-of-all-trades class and turned into a core class, and given EVEN MORE OPTIONS
>Roll most of the full BaB martial classes into fighter, with the option to take a specialization at the start to open up sets of talents
>>
>>49920152
with magic and portals you can use that excess length to use multiple holes at once.
>>
>>49920143

>>
>>49920338
We're not, were recording the not yet existent scaling masterwork system. Also, special qualities already increase the price of weapons one step, this adds no cost you wouldn't already have to pay.
>>
I don't get it.
Whenever someone complains about magic arms and armor, people agree that it's shit.
But if someone brings up proposed solutions, everyone suddenly thinks it's fine and that nothing needs changing.
What's going on?
>>
>>49920371
The masterwork system that's required before enchanting the blade further. Or at least that's what multiple people have suggested. You're adding an additional price to an already pricey system. So either the price is so low that it's negligible or you're recosting the magic item creation system, at least for weapons and armor. It all seems like a lot of work for little to no benefit.

What even is the point? Is it just so that mundanes can craft awesome weapons? Why not just give them the feat that lets them craft magic arms and armor for free when they meet the requirements?
>>
>>49920405
You're in a Pathfinder thread.
>>
>>49920421
+5 to hit and damage is a huge benefit regardless of the price. If that's a pittance in your mythic triple gestalt epic level pow 3pp homebrew game that's too bad for you, but the rest of us could make use of it.
>>
>>49920455
I honestly have no idea how your response is even related to my post. So uh... (you)?
>>
>>49920455
You already GET that from enchantment bonuses. And masterwork ALSO provides enchantment bonus, so you don't actually get anything extra.
>>
>>49920318

A-anon please, the more you talk about this story the more I want to read it or play a campaign where this happens.
>>
>>49920498
You get twice the bonus if you pay a little extra? That's not nothing in my book.
>>
>>49920318
I want to be one of those cultists!

What boons do you think you'd get if you took Deific Obedience as part of that cult?

Constant Bouncy Body?
>>
>>49920508
What kind of game would even work for that? There has to be more to it besides "make constitution checks constantly"
>>
>>49920534
Bonuses of the same type don't stack.
>>
>>49920534
Masterwork provides an enchantment bonus which doesn't stack with magic bonuses.
>>
>>49920553
My god. Enhancement is not enchantment shammy.
>>
>>49920546

Seems more like a 1-2 session "reward" after a long dragonslaying quest.

I guess the idea is a lewd campaign rather than a 24/7 fuckfest.
>>

IMO, the thing that fucks the price hardest is just that the fun enhancement abilities are all priced on the same track as the ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY +1's. If you want a +1 merciful holy lightning longsword, you're dicked over because the guy next to you just bought a +4 keen longsword for the same price and is a million times more effective. Even if an "effectively +10 weapon" is supposed to be super super lategame, that weapon is almost a fourth of a 20th level character's supposed WBL.
>>
>>49920610
But greater magic weapon...
>>
>>49920184
Yeah, just always stay in Vigilante or Social Identity and pretend the other doesn't exist. Works best for the Caster identities.
>>
>>49920598

Anal *or* oral, anon.

Vaginal should provide a Charisma bonus as she's in a perpetual healthy afterglow as the aphrodisiac-soaked seed takes root.
>>
I think the biggest problem with magic weapons is that it's all bland shot and costs huge amounts of WBL.
Specific magic weapons sometimes have beat stuff going on (Dagger of Doubling) but even those are generally "expensive flat bonuses but also casts low DC spell once per day"
The whole things shot to hell
>>
>>49920610
This is why I like things like DDS' paragon thing.

You get all your +1s as you level. So you can go the distance with your grandpappy's sword if you want, cuz it's a good sword.

But then there's also this sword over here that's on fire which you might get and use. Or this lightning sword.

Basically, it frees up special, interesting weapons to be more interesting loot rather than 'I'd have rather had the +1' and doesn't mean you have to STOP using them once better +x's come along.
>>
>>49920620
Oh, you can do that? Huh.
I'm kinda dumb, eh?
>>
>>49920630
What's the encumbrance for being turbo-pregnant?
>>
>>49920600
>A magic weapon is enhanced to strike more truly and deliver more damage. Magic weapons have enhancement bonuses ranging from +1 to +5.
>enhancement

Now read the proposals we're arguing about here
>>49920207
>enchantment slots
These could be used for enhancement or special qualities.
>>49920143
The bonuses suggested for the suggested reworked masterwork system are either untyped or of a yet unspecified type
>RTFM
>>
>>49920630
Correct on first part, sorry.

On second part, I'd say it's a morale bonus equivalent to eagles splendor; a pregnant elf is a happy elf

>>49920684
I personally don't like hyper preg, but twins or triplets would be k.
>>
>>49920702
>The bonuses suggested for the suggested reworked masterwork system are either untyped or of a yet unspecified type
Oh, so the system being proposed is entirely unbalanced?
>>
>>49920665

Which makes me think; what if the basic +1s for enchantment are locked into the "weapon quality" aspects of the system, while the special qualities are a separate thing?

A masterful longsword costs as much as a +5 weapon, but a masterful flaming longsword costs as much as a +1 weapon and +5 weapon (rather than a +6?)

And again, etching system so you can remove special qualities.
>>
What pisses me off the most about magic weapons is if you compare a masterwork longsword to a +5 longsword it's actually not that much better but it costs like 200000gp
Like dude why get a +4 sword when you can buy a fucking airship and pay a crew for a year for the same amount of gold
>>
>>49920716
I would assume the idea is to tie all the flat +1's to the masterwork, and then make all the enchantments be fun stuff like Flaming or Keen weapons. Of course, that would just be how I'd do it.
>>
>>49920711

Elves are like deer, they have twins or triplets in times of plenty (or hyper fertility) and don't show until they're practically giving birth.
>>
>>49920667
Jolly did make a 3pp book which lets a vigilante swap out their dual identity for a little bonus. Ones that ditch their vig identity get another social talent and skill points. I think ones that ditch the normal identity get more hp and.... I forget what else they get.

>>49920720
Yeah, it's kind of ludicrous.

The sheer gold value of the things adventurers encrust themselves with could destabilize economies or just make entire new ones.

So there's a really terrible wizard NPC in my game, who just likes to enchant shit all day but everything he makes accidentally turns into a monkeys paw. Like a ring of Teleportation that just sends the ring to another area, stupid stuff like that, or the spiked morningstar of cure light wounds.

So he's been trying to help my group out and he's one of the only people buying magical items from them and selling them. Of course my rogue and bard want to burglarize his store because fucking chaotic alignment. At first I wasn't going to allow them, but now I decided "fuck it, lets see what happens when they break into the basement of the shittiest enchanter to have ever been seen".

This is the map I've made so far. I'm a stupidly new GM, this is like my 4th session. What do you guys think? Any criticism or tips?
>>
>>49920721
The real question is, why even bother with a sword in the first place?

Why not just play a Wizard and use the money you would have had to spend on a weapon and armor on more fun and useful things instead?
>>
>>49920721
You could start a high-end business in the most expensive part of town for the price of a +5 sword

It would take an average, middle class citizen of a large city 167 years to buy a +5 longsword assuming he works non-stop and doesn't spend the gold elsewhere
>>
>>49920728
The guy who proposed this didn't specify, but I'd allow enhancement bonuses to stack with weapon bonuses, but weapon bonuses would cost a comparable amount to enhancement bonuses so martials would be able to significantly increase their bonus but would still have to spread their investments out over WBL.
>>
>>49920752

A +2 weapon is worth a man's weight in gold

These aren't simple weapons for soldiers, these are state works given as diplomatic gifts and shit
>>
>>49920405
Anything that interferes with people's fluffy tale mary sue bullshit is bad.
>>
>>49920752
>>49920720

A +5 flaming longsword in this example would cost 52,000 rather than 72,000.
>>
>>49920785
Looks lovely.
I'm jealous.
>>
>>49920808
Yeah, but the benefit it gives for that value is the difference between 'This guy is of average strength' and 'this guy is a strong guy'

Like, 10 strength to 14 strength.
>>
>>49920829

Also the rogue doesn't realize he has tetanus from last session, and he's going to be coming down with some lockjaw as soon as they get trapped in here. And there's a scroll with a curse of paranoia on it that's in a language only he can read.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FUCK A STRANGER IN THE ASS.
>>
>>49920740
Oh, but that's no fun.
>>
>>49920808
But it's just +2
That's almost worthless compared to what that gold could be instead
>>
>>49920808

Personally I much prefer the suggested idea of weapon quality determining "basic" enchantments rather than grabbing any basic masterwork item and shoving two magic points into it.

A +2 sword should look better than a +1, not just shine more under magic detection. It should have a pedigree of forging under the hammer of a master craftsman, with gold filigree and fine weight distribution.
>>
>>49920854
It's almost like PF gold and magic item economy is the fucking worst part of the game.
>>
>>49920851

I was hoping you'd say that.
>>
>>49920859
But anon magic weapons are candy the caster gods throw down to us martial plebs
Only magic could possibly make a weapon deal more damage
>>
>>49920885

And I'm saying magic should make a weapon launch beams of energy (shardind) or catch on fire with a word (flaming.)

Magic should not be the thing that makes a weapon simply sharper or denser. By all means, make the only +5s get made by intensely magical beings (Excalibur was a fae blade, after all) but any magic that gets poured into the blade is residual.

Kinda like the Elves in LOTR; their blades were powerful because they are inherently magical beings forging weapons under magical conditions, not forging the blade than casting Weapon Sharpener v5.

thats pretty much what i would do just fill the front up with shitty items so distracting they cant get to the weird better items.
Aww man you go to grab the +4 daggers of webbing but next to it is the fascinating necklace and its just so god damn fascinating you cant do anything but look at it, ohh you made your save cool then you can look away ohh your trying to get the daggers again too bad you have to look towards the necklace and its now even more fascinating than before. Ohh no theres a warhammer of heavy weight and you cant move it out of the way to go look at any of the stuff behind it you want to move it unfortunately its covered in grease from the last time the wizard tried to move it and you cant get a grip on it.

Or just give everything the lawful alignment so they cant use them and have no where to sell them.
>>
Noob here.

Are spells related to levels in a way in which you cannot cast them unless your level is at least the spell level?

Say I'm a level 1 cleric, but have bonus spells due to my wisdom modifier, one Rank 2 Spell, for example. Can I use it?
>>
>>49920544
>>49920598
I forgot to mention the cultists tending to wear heavy chokers that they voluntarily cinch tighter to make their throats 'better' orifices. it involves a tiny bit of breath play and makes them extra light-headed
>>
>>49921162
Now we're talking!
>>
>>49921155
Correct, even if your ability scores would grant you bonus spells per level of that slot, you cannot actually prepare or cast spells of that level until your class allows it.
>>
>>49921155
No, becuase you have a "-" in the level 2 spells column at level 1 on the table for cleric. You need an actual number there to be able to cast level 2 spells, even if it was a 0.
>>
>>49921191
Thanks. So that means once I were level 3 (and would be able to cast level 2 spells) I'd receive my bonus spell per day.
>>
>>49921162
Why would you make the hole smaller when you could make the peg bigger?
>>
>>49921208
correct.
>>
>>49921217
Why not both?
>>
>>49921189
>>49921217
the cultists came up with it themselves; there was an 'incident' earlier on when one mage tried to 'enhance' the experience and it didn't quite work out. Now any non-gaes'd spellcaster is scrutinized and screened severely before being allowed to interact; and even a lot of the gaes'd ones are still subject to amazing finger and toe shibari, arm binders, blindfolds and gags. They still consider it entirely worth it though - a draegloth among drow would be jealous of the perceptions about their power.
>>
>>49921217
>>49921232

Because if the hole is too tight than they can't gulp down the loads without it coming back up.

Unless of course he's unloading right down their throat and straight into the stomach, which might happen if it's a proper throatfuck.

Gotta leave their voices raspy and raw!

>>49921287
FYI she tried to cast share senses, it almost left her a vegetable
>>
>>49921287

Are the cultists Elven women who already had a kid or four from the dragonslayer and decided they liked the experience so much, they'd get "back in line" and do it again?

that makes up a considerable portion of them, others got addicted to the taste, some are indulging in their own fetishes, others are actual divine casters (mostly comprising fertility godesses), some wanted to make it easier to share with others and travel to other parts of the realm instead of making people come to him, others realized early that they'd have to let him go at some point in time so wanted to build up a stockpile of his seed for later - and are being paid well by either nobles interested in husbandry or casters interested in potential magical properties they think with some training, magical assistance and physical adaptation they can stretch what they've collected to about 75 years
>>
Can we stop the whole magical relm stuff, or at least send it to another thread? I understand it's enjoyable, but it's just not the type of things I come here for.

To begin with, what are your favorite monsters? Currently, I'm working on making a Dragon encounter.
>>
>>49921675
>what are your favorite monsters?

Those from magical realms.

It'll probably all be gone next thread though.
>>
>>49921675
As long as it stays in this thread there's no problem. It's when it leaks into the new thread it becomes an issue.
>>
>>49917934
Actually early society's 'third genders' were not quite like that. It wasn't "this man is actually a woman", it was "this pegboy is a sodomite to be treated like a woman" or "this man is so gay he can't even have a family of his own" (as in, derogatory). At best it was "this is a eunuch" or "as a temple priestess this woman may not marry but bears the same rights to land and ownership as a man".

Demons who steal infants and barren women were also both this "third gender"; third gender were catch-all terms for anything that were either incapable or legally barred from starting a family normally.
>>
>>49921675

The rule I've always given myself concerning these things is to not bring the discussion to a new thread unless actual campaign planning is being done.

That said, my favorite monsters are humanoids and animals; killing a skeleton is okay, but I'd much rather slay a white lion and use his pelt for my armor's mantle.
>>
>>49921675
I was only going along with it because we'd already hit bump limit. Just scoot on over to the new thread, cuz I for one ain't gonna be continuing this kinda degeneracy over there.
>>
If ever the elf magical realm thing is finished, it will be posted in /d/ where it belongs, as part of a slavery thread. Don't leak to new thread.
>>
>>49913569
Let's say I play a skald with versatile performance, and I max out perform/sing (which can be subbed for bluff and sense motive) and perform/percussions (which can be subbed for intimidate and handle animal).
Now were I to max out perform/oratory too, which can be subbed for diplomacy and bluff, I'd basically be subbing it for diplomacy only, because I already have sing for bluff.
So my question is: is there any mechanical difference (short of skill enhancing equipment) between choosing to max diplomacy or perform/oratory in this scenario?
>>
>>49921882
Why not here and there?
>>
>>49922137
Because it's rude to shit up new threads with magical realm, and because it isn't (and may not ever be) a finished pastebin. I am notoriously lazy and I can stump myself easily.
