I used a Reaper Minis one, and a D&D Miniatures Gnoll model for mine. They get the job done.

Tooby and I will be playing our game in less than 39 minutes from now. My combined usage of Wheel Decide and the Magic 8-ball tells me to grab a Wizard over either getting cards or a thrall + chainsaw combo.

They are almost always a waste. A few of them are very good though. It is mostly a case by case thing though. Your general mindset is correct though.

There are two types of good star players. Ones so good you always want them in.

The other are secret weapons. Secret weapons you want in on your offensive drive so you can have an easier time controlling when they are sent off.

Generally special play cards and other inducements like babes or bribes are more cost effective.

The majority of star players are way overpriced for what you get. But a couple have special rules that are worth considering. Like Hemlock and his Stab skill. Or the Vampire Star Player because he doesn't have bloodlust like typical vampires. Also, star players do not count against your positional allowances.

Necros can field 2 wolves. There's a wolf starplayer. So if you have 2 wolves and hire the star player, you can field 3 wolves. Same goes for big guys like the Kroxigor, Minotaurs, or the Ogres. Chaos can field a couple/few minotaurs instead of just one. I forget but I think Chaos has access to two Minotaur Star players so they could field 3 minotaurs in one game if they really wanted. But you get the idea. Star players are a different position from anything you can field.

Expected as much. The dilemma with Star Players seem to be that early in a League, you're missing out on valuable experience and don't have a lot of money to spare. But late in a League, your team should hopefully be good enough to stand on their own anyway, and you might even have players that are just as good or better than many star players.
I'll probably field the vampire at some point anyway though, because I already own two copies of that model.

Weirdly enough those exact words came up in my local league as we were discussing Halflings.

Basically, in Blood Bowl, there will come a point in all gams and with all teams where you will go "Fuck it" and embark on a highly improbable and incredibly unlikely set of manouvers.
It's just that with stunty teams, that "Fuck It" condition is basically a permanent part of your game.

BB has a lot of hooks - fantasy, miniature wargaming, sports - if none of that grabs them immediately then expect a tough sell.

Overall I'd say one of the high points is that it's a tabletop miniatures game that's relatively low cost/investment - you don't need a big "army", and the game is relatively simple. One reason I enjoy it over other mini games is that it's not a lot about "list-building" - yes, there are optimizations you can make in skill and player choice, but these tend to be more dynamic decisions that happen over the course of a season.

Star Players are best considered when you have a really, really big TV deficit and have inducement cash to burn. Other places Star Players really help is evening out strength deficits - an S4 or S5 star can really help if the other team has lots of Guard or +ST.

Secondly, some matchups will get more mileage out of stars than comparable options. A slow bash team vs. elves probably will get more use out of a chainsaw than a Wizard, for example (loose balls are not a big problem for elf teams if the opposition is too slow to reach it).

If you don't have much Guard yourself (which if you're down 550k is likely), Ripper won't be as impressive if he's getting bullied by some guard blockers.

Might look at some secret weapon players to try and remove their AG3. Wizard is definitely a good idea though, dorfs have a hard time moving the ball safely without caging.

This is by far the sleepiest season, I'd say it's even comfy.

Easy when you multiblock the 2 opponent's strength jump up by 2. Dauntless lets you match someones strength as an equal number. With one assist on each blocked opponent, you negate the 2 added strength when dauntless succeeds allowing for 2 2d blocks with one player, plus frenzy does not go off so you stay put and out of danger.

If you're playing vs. Claw then probably the best advice is to try and keep the Claw guys down on the pitch or at the least pushed away as much as they can. You want to limit things as much as possible to taking 1 Claw blitz a turn or less. By the point you're facing Claw teams a Dwarf team has enough strength from Guard to win so long as you don't lose too many men.

That's the other problem, one of Nuffle's doctrines is that "One's body is a weapon" which is the reason weapons are banned from Blood Bowl games. The only reason knifes and the occasional knuckle duster is allowed is because they're easy to hide.That on the other hand, is anything but hidden.

Maybe I'm just being fussy, but I liked that everyone actually looked like football players rather than normal soldier taking to the pitch with minimally modified armor.

Some people might remember back in summer I looked into paper blood bowl and found people who made paper cubes players but they never uploaded the cube templates (or atleast I didn't find them), and the other templates I found were super shit.

I just looked again and lo and behold I found some spanish guy who made these fucking based card templates, right size, and in word format so the text can easily be edited. They're in Spanish tho, but I can fix that for you lads. There's all teams except simyin, slann and underworld, but making those would be really easy with the editable templates.

The only drawback is that there's little info in the front and on the back it might be hard to tell at a glance what each piece is. I'm thinking the top can be color coded on both sides for positionals, and skills on the front, well, either color code skills as well and draw dots or lines somewhere in the front or maybe try color bands but I don't know how'd they fit.

At any rate I'm pretty thrilled to have found this, now I can shill BB to my friends while being a poorfag.
