I have a IRL match against a first year Human team today:

I'm running Slaan in a somewhat nonstandard setup of 3 catchers 1 Blitzer 1 Krox 3rr. However my Krox is missing this game after an outrageous Chaos game last week (How the FUCK do you get 2 Agi4 Chaos Warriors by Game 3? THE FUCK WAS THAT HORSESHIT!?) so as a result I have exactly 250k in inducements to spend.

Now, Slaan special players suck, so I was thinking of just bringing in Helmut Wulf and a reroll and calling it a day. Does this sound like a decent strat?
I've got a Catcher with Guard (more for future games when the team comes online) and finally my Blitzer got Wrestle.

If a change was made to the game so that skill access gets factored into value of the piece, how much would you value it? As in, how much more (or less) worth should a piece be worth with additional access - so for example a player of Blocker type that gets A on normals.

Brand new to the game and making a Chaos team. With my starting 1,000,000 I bought this team:

5x Beastmen.
3x Chaos Warriors
1x Minotaur

1x Apothecary
1x Wizard
2x Cheerleaders
1x Assistant Coach

This leaves me with 20,000. I'm new to this, so my thinking was to do this like Necromunda and just blow all of my starting money on guys and equipment.
How good an investment is a Wizard?

Wizard is an inducement and can only be bought during a match. Get those RR and drop those coaches and cheerleaders. Maybe drop apo for better starting roster. Aim for 3 RR and 2-3 chaos warriors. Mino might not be the best to start with if you are new. Standard line up is 3-4 CW then beastmen to 11 with 2-3 RR.

No, this is a bad way of thinking. Blood Bowl is not like Necromunda or Mordheim because in the latter two you don't lose your turn for failing to do something.

In a typical skirmish game, more unskilled guys is an advantage because you have a higher number of dice rolls that can go right. In BB, more guys are more chances for dice rolls to go WRONG.

Most teams want to concentrate their value into a few dudes who do things reliably (this is why Chaos is also considered a weak roster early on). Positionals that start with skills are valuable because these skills make them more reliable at specific tasks. If you don't have any guys that can do things reliably, you need to spend extra on re-rolls to give your team the extra layer of reliability you need to insulate yourself from ending your turn to early when you do need to take a risk. For a team with no starting skills like Chaos, you want at least 3 rerolls, if not 4.

The classic safe start for Chaos is 7x Beastmen, 4 CWs, and 3 Rerolls. This gives you 11 players, all 4 Warriors, whose extra strength you will need to make up for lack of skills, and 3 rerolls to aid with ball handling.

Keep in mind that having an extra player on the bench only adds very marginally to your chances of success. Sure, they can be a replacement for a player who is injured during a drive, but they don't come on until the end of the drive anyway so you still have to play a man down - and a canny opponent can just drag out the drive to delay your replacement. Understanding how to make more efficient plays when you're down a man will help a lot more than a benched guy.

You're complicating the matter, which conveniently obscures the argument in your favor. How do you quantify things like that so that pricing does factor into it? If a team has lots of block access, their players cost 10k more to access S skills, or somesuch?

I'd agree that team composition is far more likely to be a factor in deciding skill access, but it would have to be the only factor currently used. Pricing doesn't enter into it.

Nothing yet. I reckon like the Humans and Orcs, the sprues for Dwarfs and Skaven will be 6 players. Possibly with more options, if you look at them Dwarfs there's some clear body doubles with different heads.

They will likely be resin or plastic clamshells, depending on demand. I am excited for new BB, but I just know it's going to be fucking expensive looking at their current single model prices. £15+ a Star Player/Big Guy?

Things I learned yesterday

This guy was right: >>49768212 and I should have gone for a wizard, as I went with Helmut Wulf, lost the toss and Helmut went for a burton on the first turn.

The second thing we both learnt was: "Slaan can score, hella quick"

Basically, his dice were fine, until they tried to do something important in which case they'd double 1. Then a catcher would get the ball and I'd score.

The game ended 3-1 and the only reason he scored that 1 TD was because a Pitch Invasion just straight up laid out the entire right side of my team, and if I'd had taken a Wizard I actually think I could have prevented even that by Fireballing or Bolting his ball carrier.

I now have my second Blitzer, a Catcher with Dodge and a Linefrog that I couldn't really think of what to give so I went with Block which is nice and safe in most circumstances. Next Linefrog has to get Kick though I think.

After our 10th year, it was basically agreed on that year 11 of the league everyone should bring in new teams, so I think that's probably the best time to go Slaan, when there's no three year Claw/MB Chaos Teams rolling about.

I also lucked out in that aside from a handful of exceptions people didn't go all that bashy this year, there's a mix of human and elf teams by and large, heck, two people even decided to go Halflings.

Sure I got handed a 3-2 loss to a Chaos player in my second match, but that was because somehow that fucker had already managed to get two Agility 4 Chaos warriors.

You do NOT expect to get outpassed by Chaos when you're playing as Slaan.
I certainly wasn't fucking expecting that Chaos Warrior interception.

I not sure, but I think the facebook page might have outed when the set is coming out. There's an event scheduled for the 26th of November, which might mean that either that's when the boxed set comes out or sometime after it comes out.

Boy, I would never make the mistake of underestimating Wardancers, but I wouldn't oversell them, either. They can each only Leap once, and anyone can build a screen to stop 2 Wardancers if they've got their full 11.

On dark elves, do you take tackle on the first blitzer to level or the second? Cause the only good singles for dark elf blitzers are dodge, tackle, side step. So, baring dubs or +stat do you wanna go 3 blodgers and 1 tackle for the first level?

Also I find Tackle Blitzers have a tendency to get ground into fine paste before they level again to learn Dodge, but I might just be unlucky. The other thing is that taking Tackle after Blodge gives you a player that's much better at marking compared to one that has Tackle alone.

As for DE blitzer singles, there's plenty of other useful if highly League-dependent skills. Dauntless, Leap, Strip Ball, and Sure Hands (on a blodging Blitzer), and Jump Up can be really big shots in the arm to help you take home a season trophy. Dauntless makes matchups against Orc, Lizards, and Chaos far, far easier, for example.

Yeah, all of us over in the Huntingdon Wargaming BBL are having a year like that.
Two of us are going Halfling this year, another went Goblin*, two of us are Slaan, there's a Chaos Pact team (Pact have a pretty subpar history in our league) who's touted to win the whole thing and our solitary Orc team is using a 3d printed model of Flying Spaghetti Monster to represent his troll.

I *was* tempted to go Ogre myself this year, but in the end I went Slaan, and honestly I've been having a blast with them.
Sure I've only one in three games with them, but I'm still having fun.
...and that loss should have been a draw. Who ever fucking heard of a Chaos team having a passing game?

dodge on elves lets you get assists much easier and if you take a funky starting roster you probably only have 2 re-rolls for a good long while (especially if a blitzer dies on you)

Gentlemen:

Pick a positional from a team that is pretty much considered sub-optimal if not useless.

Now fix them. You can't change the rules behind the skills they have, though you can change their skills, but not dramatically. For instance, no taking Stab off Dark Elf Assassins. The only stats you can alter are MA and AV, as well as player cost.

And you can alter skill access.

Necromantic Ghouls need sure hands or maybe strip ball. But the problem there is you'd need to carry that on to the Undead flavour Ghouls. Maybe rename one Crypt Ghouls?

Whilst CD Hobgoblins are hardly underutilised, I do think they should have Agility access on normal rolls as this would make them able to take Sneaky Git as standard and would mean you could build HobGobs who are just as viable on the team as the other positions.

I don't think Necromantic Ghouls need any changes. Werewolves are still 0-2 and you still want to take them; I'd hardly call Necro Ghouls under-utilized or unattractive.

Ag access Hobs would be hideously good. Natural blodge access - not even human linos get that.
