Deadeye is now 'Small ship only' meaning they now can't be cheeky cunts and alpha you off the board on the first pass by just taking a focus while outside of range 3 and waiting for some poor bastard to waltz in range.
>>
>>49836682
Ah interesting. I used to include one U-boat in my builds for taking care of annoying large base ships. Switch Deadeye to Vet Instincts and put K3 Security Droid in the crew slot and it's still viable-ish.
>>
>>49836682
Uh, define "alpha" in this context?

Alpha strike is an X-wing term for a ship delivering a big hit early in the game. With the Wolfpack this usually meant twelve red dice with modification on Round 3.

Could someone break down these new Obstacle rules for me?

>"After a ship’s base or maneuver template overlaps an obstacle, and the overlap is not from executing a maneuver, it suffers an effect based on the type of obstacle:"

Is this a new entry which means that boosting/decloaking into an asteroid means suffering the same effect as maneuvering into an asteroid, or does it replace that effect?

Combined arms warfare on the Empire's terms. No large, unsecured objects to use the Force on. The Imps have set up an ambush or fortified position with armor and heavy weapons, sighted the place with artillery, and have CAS on standby. The Inquisitor prefers a sniper rifle as his main weapon. The Imps have also brought landmines, incendiaries, and gas to the party. Every bounty hunter in the sector is on high alert and ready to collect, too.
>>
>>49838038
Enemies that stay at range. Larger minion groups. And if they excessively are using it in a setting where lightsabers are a big no-no, then enemies that bring in heavier weapons to go after them.

If they exclusively use Lightsabers, Parry, maybe knocking up the default by a couple extra ranks; if they use blasters, then Reflect as well. Give the Inquisitor 2 rounds during combat, maybe 3 if the group has incredibly high xp. And then just add a few extra talents. Durable and Center of Being go a long way; Supreme Armor Master is good if you intend for him to be more of a big bad.

Any suggestions for an oddball x-wing game?

Example: "Hunger games"
>each of 2-6 players gets a single 33-pt ship
>Asteroids clustered in center have upgrades on them
>land on the asteroid = get the upgrade, even if it doesn't work on your ship normally
>Last one alive wins
>>
>>49838658
The Good, The Bad And The Ugly:
You run three 33 (or, if you want it crazier, 50) point lists together, one from each faction. No transfer, any unspent points from a faction are lost
>>
>>49838038
Punish exposure. The players should be hesitant to pull out their lightsabers unless absolutely necessary.

One of my Jedi players handed evidence over to a Moff which got Iziz bombed to dust.
>>
>>49838658
My local league does one of these during each meeting after the regular game. The idea for a lot of these is to have people make squads that feature pilots or ships not normally used, while still being fairly effective. Favorites have been:

HIJACKING!
>Your own list must have 3 ships
>At the beginning of the match, you and your opponent will each secretly decide on a ship that they want to hijack from your list.
>You reveal at the same time, and then hand over the ship your opponent is hijacking.
>If the ship you hijacked is destroyed before you can completely destroy your opponent’s list, then you lose the match. (because the goal is to get the hijacked ship back to your home base)

Turbolaser Killzone
>The squadrons have found themselves in the middle of a duel between ships of the line.
>Each player creates a 100point squad as standard, but only places 2 obstacles
>At the beginning of the combat phase, each ship is treated as though under attack at range-3 by an unmodified 3-dice attack, and defends as normal.
>After the 6th turn, the player with the most points (per standard rules) still on the table wins.

"You're not actually going IN to the asteroid field !?"
>Each player places 4 obstacles per normal rules
>At the beginning of the activation phase, after all maneuver dials are set, each obstacle has a scatter die rolled for it (in our case, WHFB/40k).
>The obstacle moves in a 1-straight at the direction rolled by the scatter die. On a "hit" result, the obstacle stays in place. If an obstacle goes off the board, it is place at the same position on the opposite board edge
>Normal obstacle effects apply

Don't be too hard on them for wanting to whip sabres out sometimes and chop things with them, if they worked hard to make their own sabres and all that- let them have a bit of fun every now and then.
In saying that, there are times they should NOT be running around just fucking shit up and you should consider an alternative action: charm, sneaking, negotiation, intimidation, slicing etc that they can pursue as being a good way of conflict resolution- but if they persist in just killing people as the #1 way, chock up some darkside points and don't feel too bad about it.

If you want to go hardball on them, combined arms with all the resources of the Empire at their disposal... aka Inquisitors
A smart opponent will observe and understand the enemy, what they do, how they act and where they run when under pressure. He may simply decide to deploy little drones and bugs to find out as much info as he can, then bring the hammer down with the force of an angry god.

>Maybe he'll bog them down under waves of stormtroopers then smack the fuck out of the whole area with mortars or rocket launchers
>If they've got a hidey hole, blow it up- preferably with them in it
>A sharpshooter to just waste someone when they stick their head up too high
>Kill ALL of their contacts- every single one to the point their mere names will cause poo to come out
>Driveby shooting! :)
>Things that have thick armour and big guns...

But most importantly- chose the ground you will want to fight on, not what 'they' would find convenient or easy.
>>
>>49839222
Same core system, but tailored to different approaches (spacers, military, and Force users respectively). You can (and are encouraged to) mix and match between all three.

What's the best way to play Manaroo?
>>
>>49839200
Seconding the FFG recommendation. The system is one, the books are all cross-compatible, with the only major difference being each books particular mechanic (Duty for Rebels, Obligation for smugglers/bountyhunters etc, Morality for Force folks).
They are pretty different from DnD, particularly when characters are good without being good in combat, unlike DnD's "parallel" progression (combat progression, and "RP" progression), in this one you have one pool of XP to spend on stuff, and you're still just as valuable if you don't want to play someone who's good (or even decent) at killing stuff.

The most major difference is that the dice aren't just a binary success/fail, but you can also get advantage/threat. So you might roll to attack, get the hit in, BUT [something]. Or you might miss, BUT you forced your opponent to get out of cover (for example).
>>
>>49839750

>Not giving the pilot who has an ability that works with cannons a cannon.

Eval also does not synergize very well with the pup - it has no cannon or aux arc, and on top of that, tail gunner is waste because the aux arcs are in the front.

I don't think your other squaddies work that well together either.
>>
>>49839750
>>49839803
Also, Evals main draw is firing his cannons in his auxilary arc, and you didn't give him a cannon.
Loner Suhlak is a fine cheap combo. Not sure about turrent choice on the Y-wing, you'll pretty much never be able to modify those three dice.
>>
>>49840177

Probably. I'd have preferred if they'd gotten cheaper instead, so I'm not sure what I'd do.

/swg/, my players want me to run a campaign where they play Imperials.

I am a terrible person.

I want to make the villains a nucanon style quirky Wendig-tier quipfest rebel cell. Everything people complain Rebels is but worse. The PCs will be sent to a planet to help prepare for a meeting of Moffs but the plucky, quirky Rebels want to make them look foolish with epic pranks.

So far I have the team of:

Emmy Quickrat, a force-sensitive strong independent girl from the streets who has a lightsaber shiv she made from a broken crystal. She also has a cortosis yoyo and a hand-restored jawa blaster that backfires at comedy moments.

Outer Rim Rodgers, a gay crossdressing pilot in a relationship with D4R-L3N3, a genderfluid protocol droid which lapses into Gungan patois at random moments

Weebacca, an orphaned Wookiee kid who wears a backwards baseball cap and has a games console in his armoured gauntlets and can only be understood by Emmy

They crew the Spinmaster 6900, which is a Lambda Shuttle with illegal mods to let it barrel roll

What other terrible ideas can you come up with to spring on people who just want to serve the Empire

>>49842525

>>
>>49843242
Yes, though the effectiveness of the replacement is wholly dependent on the competence of the writers. An incompetent writer would give us a reskinned T-47 that does exactly the same thing, only thirty years later. A competent writer would probably phase them out completely and have the NR focus funding on more cost-effective things. MBTs, CAS, and heavy artillery are probably all far better at fighting AT-ATs than a dinky speeder with a tow cable.
>>
>>49843500
>are probably all far better at fighting AT-ATs than a dinky speeder with a tow cable.
Well I figured that to combat AT-ATs they may just call in B-Wing strikes while the airspeeders focused more on lighter vehicles and ground troops. though even then that tactic seems like the sort of thing you only do when you are stuck working with what you got.

Mix of win-loss for both sides, the Empire chased them out of their hole and destroyed a lot of assets, but they didn't completely wipe the rebels out due to some sneaking bastards shooting the fuck out of everything with a massive ion cannon.

>I think you'll find they got away because they dropped out of hyperspeed too close to the planet
yeah, it's amazing that few fans (at least at my LGS) really understand why Ozzel's action was such a fuckup,

Star Destroyers take time to unload, they are not like WW2 duckboats where you drop a boarding ramp and all the troops and AT-ATs come pouring out, you gotta load shit onto shuttles, fly them to the planet's surface, unload the shuttles, fly back to the star destroyer so you can do it all over again until your entire assault force is on the ground. Vader's plan was to have the star destroyers park themselves just outside sensor range and use the shuttles' hyperdrive to ferry ground forces from the ships to the surface without alerting the Rebels (It would be easy to mistake the shuttles as just more meteors, a frequent occurrence on Hoth). Then when everything's in position THEn strike, the rebels would be caught completely off guard and with their pants down, they would not even have time to put up a real defense. But no, Ozzel dropped into high orbit all but announcing they were comming so while the Empire was scrambling to unload their ground assault force, the Rebels had time to mount a defense while the bulk of their forces and high command bugged-out. So instead of capturing the majority of rebel high command and their elite forces, they got an empty base and a few dozen grunts... Whoop-tee-fucking-do.

Your U-boats were broken as all hell. Cry more. This reminds me of Phantom pilot's tears.

This has nothing to do with Disney, and everything to do with proper game balance. You can still make a decent torpedo boat with K4+unhinged. You just can't roll up to an opponent with a focus and expect to do 4 damage at range 3 anymore, and you can't run 3 of them.

This FAQ improves the game so much it's almost impossible to quantify.

Personally, I'm more annoyed that they had already been nerfed into balance. Triple Scouts was scary when it first came out and was certainly a popular build, but once the Agromech change came down it just fell into the mess of solid lists. There were so many good counters that it couldn't dominate any more, except as a noobslayer.

Before them, all Scum had going for it was Brobots and Thug Lyfe. Thankfully, there's enough good Scum builds now that I think they can stay competitive with a good amount of variety.

Get TFA core, has all the templates dice etc. that you need to play (most players prefer the TFA dmg deck less crippling crits for aces, but both decks are legal to use). Scum is fun, some crazy effects and some of the best big ships. It's known for strong crew and one time effects (illicit is pretty much an entire classification of upgrades just for scum). Triple Jumpmasters just got nerferd, but there's still plenty of good lists like Dengaroo (dengar and Manaroo). Some people are experimenting with scum aces now that protectrate starfighter came out. You can also go with Bro-bots. I'd look at the scum archtypes and then from there find what you need to buy for it (hanshoppedfirst), maybe watch some vids.
>>
>>49846446
Anything that isn't the movies, the show or anything made by Disney isn't canon anymore.
Which is probably why TOR said "Fuck it" and went full bananas with the Knights of the Fallen Empire storyline.

Wait, are we not welcome here? Because the Empire would have objectively handled the Vong threat better than the New Republic. Plus under Imperial rule galactic conflicts resolved themselves much quicker than they did under the Republic. You can very easily make the case that in the grander scheme of things, the Galactic Empire was a net positive as far as institutions go.

This is mostly because of poor writing/editorial though, mostly due to the fact that writers fall back on the familiar crutch of using contemporary real-world morality in telling a story of a fantasy world that's totally divorced from reality in multiple ways. No writer ever makes the Empire out to be bad on the macro-level, instead only focusing on micro-level atrocities.

Yeah but the scaling of Star Wars is so fucked that the MULTIPLE planets the Empire blew up is generally insignificant. They'd have to clear out an entire sector or two for the atrocities to really mean something on the macro-level.
>>
>>49849949
>Because the Empire would have objectively handled the Vong threat better than the New Republic.
Not really, no. The Empire would have left the galaxy even more burnt and broken because scorched earth, world-destroying superweapons, and an utter disregard for anything but Palpatine's own powerboner. The Empire might have won the war, too, sure, but there would have been much less galaxy left to live in.

>galactic conflicts
There were no galactic-scale conflicts under Imperial rule until the GCW, because any conflicts were put down with extreme force.

>grander scheme
State-sanctioned slavery, casual genocides, widespread corruption and nepotism (worse than the NR's), state-sponsored terrorism, Black Sun, and zero rules of engagement typically aren't considered a net positive. The Tarkin Doctrine was also widely regarded, in-universe and out, as extremely inefficient at fighting real wars against enemies who don't succumb to terror tactics. Business was also fucked due to large amounts of bureaucratic red tape and state-sponsored monopolies. The Empire was a net negative, and its actions didn't really improve law and order in the galaxy. Many Imperial apologists fall back on the Vong prep and MUH ORDER arguments due to TIE Fighter and Outbound Flight, but those ones routinely ignore evidence to the contrary.

This in turn would have stopped the Vong much more quickly, minimizing the overall amount of damage. The Galaxy Gun could have pretty much halted the invasion altogether. Again, bad scale.

>There were no galactic-scale conflicts under Imperial rule until the GCW, because any conflicts were put down with extreme force.

And this is a bad thing because...?

>State-sanctioned slavery

But an overall decrease since private slavery was outlawed

>casual genocides
>state-sponsored terrorism

In a galaxy with a population that we could assume to be in the trillions at minimum

>widespread corruption and nepotism

Not as bad as the Old Republic's

>The Tarkin Doctrine was also widely regarded, in-universe and out, as extremely inefficient at fighting real wars against enemies who don't succumb to terror tactics.

Just because it wasn't good at something it wasn't designed to do doesn't mean you disregard it altogether.

>Business was also fucked due to large amounts of bureaucratic red tape and state-sponsored monopolies.

Again, still better than under the Old Republic.

>its actions didn't really improve law and order in the galaxy

>stripmined planets on a whim for efficient production while displacing/killing the inhabitants

Okay, but how many planets? And what all was produced?
>>
>>49850223
The PT-era OR was fucked, no question there, but the NR was ultimately a greater net positive. An NR victory over the Vong left a large number of worlds intact for reconstruction and resettlement. Imperial policy would have left the galaxy heavily depopulated and possibly fucked over the long term.

>overall decrease
No statistics are present to say whether slavery increased or decreased, but the fact that the Empire supported it is bad enough. Plus, while the Outer Rim was always a slaver-ridden shithole, the Empire was the first in millennia to use it on a massive industrial scale by using slave labor on its superweapons.

>trillions
A billion innocent lives lost is still a billion innocent lives lost, no matter how many other people there are in the galaxy. Alderaan was also a core world, which meant it was far more heavily populated than most planets in the Mid and Outer Rim. And as far as we know, Star Wars is on the lower end of the space population scale. Corellia, a core world, is listed as having a few billion people. Coruscant, the center of society and most densely populated world in the galaxy, has a mere 1 trillion.

>disregard it altogether
You do if it's the Tarkin Doctrine, which turned out to be a failure on all fronts by encouraging the Rebellion in the first place and wasting countless tax credits on failed wunderwaffen. And instead of investing Star Destroyers, which would have actually won a war, the Tarkin Doctrine might have actually hamstrung galactic security given how easily those superweapons were destroyed.

>no galactic-scale conflicts
Just because the galaxy didn't devolve into anarchy, doesn't mean the Empire kept things safe. Piracy, scum, and villainy still went on. With Black Sun and the Hutts in cahoots with the Empire, one could even argue that crime was on the rise.

Plus, call me naive, but I'm a firm believer in individual rights, democracy, due process, and not being massacred for public assembly.

The point he was making is that the Empire used excessive force when it wasnt needed. The fact that there still was a galatic conflict undermines your case as well.
>>
>>49850420

>Plus, call me naive, but I'm a firm believer in individual rights, democracy, due process, and not being massacred for public assembly.

See, that's the problem. You're using real-world logic on a world that's not real. The United States has 350 million people give or take, and our democracy is barely functioning. How the hell is democracy supposed to work in a galaxy with trillions and trillions of people?

Really, this is the only thing the Empire did wrong. Alderaan was a shitty target and someone should have pointed out to Tarkin and Sheev that they'd be putting otherwise comfortable, apathetic people into "fight or die" mode. If they hadn't done that, the Rebellion would have petered out as the vast majority of the galaxy decided that Imperial Rule was worth the cost.

Really it's just bad writing, since Sheev is an expert politician and the mastermind behind a galactic conflict, he should have known that what happened would only blow up in his face. Inb4 that was his plan all along for some stupid reason.

Pretty sure there are no rules for this. If it can fly, it can land. Immobile stations probably can't, for obvious reasons, but SDs are canonically able to do atmo, and Venators canonically land on the ground. So that's at least up to SIL 8, and if you have the space no reason not to allow it for SIL 9.

The Empire was an unsustainable venture in the long term. Whether by Vong, bureaucratic bloat, delayed Rebellion, or Vader following the Sith Code, it would have eventually collapsed in on itself. Hell, an Empire weakened by a Vong invasion would have been ripe for a reborn Rebel Alliance.

Well, Minstrel is a decent pick for one of them, if Scum needs min 2 to catch up. Think of all the canonical Scum crew which doesn't make any sense elsewhere. Jabba, Bib Fortuna, Max Rebo and the Max Rebo Band...

Action is also a solid guess, with Wild Karde, maybe an Interceptor title to tie it into Zann and then you can bundle it with a new StarViper. Scum alternate for the Gozanti is also a solid bet. I'd also put cash down that Hammerhead is the next Rebel huge, no idea what imperials would get.

Sheev was surfing on his success as a Sith and the Tarkin doctrine fit with his own code pretty damn well. Very little had stopped the Empir's advance and the Death Star was to be the crowning achievement that absolute fear would keep the galaxy in check, a doctrine that worked from the end of the Clone Wars to the destruction of Alderaan. But thanks to the intervention of a Rebellion and from a certain Force-sensitive farmboy, Sheev and Tarkin would've been proven right yet again.

Not their fault the Force suddenly backed a Rebel fighter at that precise moment.
>>
>>49850927

I mean, I wouldn't give up hope, because you never know - Scum might need 3 Huge to catch up, but I will agree with the obvious Syck fix now just put in the FAQ, the two ships who need "fixing" or improvement for Scum are both predominantly Black Sun oriented, though I guess the Kihraxz has a "Cartel Spacer" pilot.

It's kind of funny looking at Scum pilots, you can pick out some interesting little archetypes or sub-factions in their pilots - particularly generics. Got generic mercs/bounty hunters in stuff like the Ys, the G-1A, etc. Black Sun in StarVipers, Z-95s and Kihraxz. Hutt Cartel in their little Syck (FFG plz add Dunelizard and Krayt kthx). Mandos in the Firespray and Fang Fighter.

>>49851087

Pretty sure the Italian leak was completely wrong about Wave X.
>>
So I came up with this list basically just to shit on my brother who I know likes to tend towards meta things so I know he's probably going to want to use a tricked out Soon Tir Fel and then maybe a TIE/sf and his TIE/fos.
https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v4!s!205:-1,-1,184,-1:41:26:;7:0,-1,1,2:-1:7:;47:54,0,38:3:-1:&sn=Unnamed%20Squadron
The idea is to drop a double target lock and focus point on Dutch ASAP and blast Fel off the board with the proton torp and a round of shots before he gets to be a cunt and then spend the rest of the match drifting around slowly passing locks and focus points around to ensure steady ionization and create chances for the ARC to pick off the remainders.

I've only got access to stuff from the FA core set, the headhunter, the HWK, the ARC, the A-wing and the Y-wing. Anyone know a better way I could pull this strat off with just the stuff in those sets?
>>

I remember poking my nose over at FFG's armada forum and being blown away at how much pointless drama was occurring. entire threads about this guy leaving armada because blah de blah de blah why the fuck are you making a big stink out of it. It was something like 10 pages, and it blew my mind that people wasted so much time on it.

Bioware is literally a shovel that throws out generic, crappy shit every year. Fuck them and fuck EA.

A planet that has conspired against the Empire since its inception. A planet filled with traitors.

Before you betray your legally appointed government, make sure your planet has some defenses against the battle station of which you just just stole the schematics.

Because, you know, it blows up fucking planets.

What are you implying?

>Before you betray your legally appointed government, make sure your planet has some defenses against the battle station of which you just just stole the schematics.

But then the Another Chance wouldn't become a great RPG hook or important plot point in the Bacta War.

>Immediately defaulting to genocide as option 1
>Not even drone strikes
>Not even sending the space gestapo
>Nope, better commit genocide
>Even though a some of the planet's population actually still supports the Empire, signs up for Imperial military service, and pays taxes
>Even though we helped inflame those rebellious sentiments because we slapped the large alien migrant population with high travel taxes

There is such a thing as excessive force.

Yeah I mean it must have felt good to fry some hippies, I won't deny that, but at the same time you gotta realize that it's very easy to martyr them as well

I mean of all the superweapons they could have at least used something like the Nightcloak and said that it was an environmental disaster or something, flat-out superlasering them was a little excessive.

He thinks romance options are somehow a better idea to spent time on during game development instead of coming up with a good ending for a story that spawned a pretty big IP.

Rightly or wrongly, Tarkin disagreed.

It was one big drone strike.

At least one princess, her body double, the son of the planet's biggest Holonet provider, and an unknown number of Alderaan-born Imperial military defectors. Indirectly, there's also Another Chance and all the gear stripped from her escorts.

Survey should say 3 between Leia, Tycho and Rieekan. Even if you don't count Leia, that's two people who defected post attack that helped change the course of galactic history multiple times.

>>49852513
Damn right.

Using stuff outside of the movies to argue any main point just makes your argument look like a huge reach.

Leia, Tycho, Rieekan, and Winter.

How can you list Tycho and Leia and not the person that links them?

>her body double
But I did.

Thought I'd get in before the Moff-posters.
