Shit guys, I was illuminated by the magic of the Y-Wing tonight during my local X-Wing league. My Gold Squadron pilot, wielding his mighty Dorsal Turret, succeeded in every single one of his evade rolls during the first game and accounted for half of the damage on Ventress' ship before finally being brought down, and during the next game he swooped into action to not only eliminated Manaroo single-handed, but still had enough hull integrity to land the killing blow on Dengar.

/swg/ I have a big of an artist block. I joined a canon only no-legends no-force no-mando group. I want to make a Bounty Hunter wearing heirloom armor that has old decals and symbols on their armor. Problem is I don't know what canon symbols or artwork to use, I've got the Death Squad (kind of bending the rules a bit with no mandos) symbol but I'm afraid thats all I can think with the exception of new order and the pubs. I kind of want a mixture of factions and organizations so what else can would be acceptable canonically? I am okay with generic decal ideas as well.
>>
>>49853836

Check out the flag parade from TPM and the flags at Maz' castle in TFA - both are canonical sets of designs.

You can never go wrong with this or Kilroy. Nucanon is also ridiculously sparse, so not much precedent has been set for other faction iconography. It's still a setting that is very much under construction. You can probably use this as an excuse to steal insignia ideas from Metal Gear, Battletech, Halo multiplayer icons, etc., though.

>>
So who's Wendig and why is he so awful?
>>
>>49854242

>So who's Wendig

Some nerdy white guy author who mostly writes urban fantasy or near future stuff, far as I can tell. LFL probably picked him because he was "hip" or "fresh".

> why is he so awful?

He's not really awful, but his novels are badly out of tone with the setting, have incredibly cliched plots (not even in a fun way), and most of his characters are boring. He seemingly suffers from a terrible combination of not enough editing to polish up his writing, but too much editorial oversight as his central characters aren't really interesting and don't do a lot - probably because LFL has a rigid path to TFA to follow.

And like a lot of social justice/identity politics types, he seems to take all forms of criticism as personal attacks on him, everything he believes in and generally all good and just human beings everywhere.
>>
>>49854292
Also writes SW in the present tense. Aftermath seems like a poorly edited RP log of a game with a terrible GM.
>>
>>49854404
Present tense is fashionable right now, and its fashionability is part of that 'never ever use passive voice' thing that gets blogged around on the writer side of social media and is completely misunderstood by most of them.
>>
>>49854436
It doesn't fit Star Wars at all. And there's really not much wrong with passive voice.

I don't hate Mandos because they're written well by certain writers(Avellone and Filoni in particular). But you have to admit they're a magnet for Gary Stus. I had a friend who unironically and enthusiastically described an AU fanfic about how Mandos and Grey Jedi teamed up to beat the empire and take over the galaxy and I've heavily distrusted both character concepts ever since.
>>
>>49855163

>>
>>49853836
If you want to sneak a Mando under the radar it's rather simple. Don't wear a helmet and don't mention clan and family shit unless someone asks you directly. To other players you're simply a very serious and organized character with one or two character quirks.
Another thing that helps is masking your armor as something else, like saying it's got symbols from a private security firm or a Hutt cartel.

>The jizz-box was a musical device. In 13 ABY, the protocol droid C-3PO, who was stranded on the planet of Nim Drovis, auditioned to perform at a cantina called the Wookiee's Codpiece. C-3PO performed by playing back songs stored in his memory core with his vocabulator. The assistant manager of the establishment told the droid that he sounded like a festering jizz-box and rejected him, saying the Codpiece already had a jizz-box to play.[1]

>>
>>49856312

What Biggs nerf? It's always been that he only works if you could fire at Biggs normally, they've just made it clear this also applies if you pick a weapon that has limited ranges then you can ignore Biggs if that gun can't target him as well.
Most of the time you're going to be using something with a 2-3 range, and you should be making Biggs hang as far fucking back as he can whilst still in range just to increase the chances of him getting range three bonuses anyway.
The only time I can think this is going to come up is Autoturrets and Prockets.

I don't want to get in an argument but I was under the impression that targetlock ordnance was now usable against ships even if biggs is with them. I took that as a nerf.
>>
>>49856643

Why the fuck would they nerf Biggs now though? There's no goddamn reason. Plus, how often have you seen Ordinance used by something that DOESN'T have Deadeye on it?
>>
>>49856643
I thought it always worked that way.
>>
>>49856740
Well, now with Dead eye being small ship only, often?
>>
>>49856643
effectively you now pick the weapon first, then the target. This means that if you choose TLT when Biggs is in your donut, ordnance with a target other than Biggs TL'd, or anything else that can't shoot Biggs you now don't have to.
>>
>>49856643
>>49857105

Looking at it, there is a strong argument to be made that weapons with the Attack [target lock] can't target someone they don't have a Target Lock on, thus enabling them to escape Bigg's effect whenever they use Torps and Missiles in the usual way.

Unless the rulings indicate that you can target a ship you don't have a TL on with Attack [TL] weapons, you just can't fire that turn.

It went fairly well. Acquiring TLs with a PS3 ship is ass, but TL + focus made primaries and the few torps I fired very reliable. Feedback Array was the mvp, but I was already using that in my deadeye build.

It'll clown PS1/2 like always, but I don't know if it's an all comers build.

Bumpmaster is probably the way forward.

It's not really a nerf, but rather a clarification of sorts. Biggs should not force a player to use a specific attack, whether primary or secondary. Especially since on the timing issue the target selection comes after the attack selection. And Biggs doesn't break the rules for target selection by being outside of arc or range (which has always been the case). So basically this "nerf" is really just clarifying that if you select a Proton Torpedo, and the target lock you discard is not on Biggs, then he can't eat the torpedo. He can still eat a Deadeye Torpedo fired from discarding a Focus token, provided he's not outside of arc or range.

Yeah, the Deadee nerf just removes the brainlessness behind the torp-boats. You'll still be able to use them as ordnance carriers, but you'll have to set up the target locks, or use K4 like you are. And that said, K4 is one of the best crew options Scum has for any ship with a healthy selection of green maneuvers.

I need help with Sith Lord concepts for a thing. I want them to be in the same vein as Nihlus or Scion in that the Dark Side has warped them into something horrible and inhuman. Like scion was unable to die and was completely made of burnt skin, broken bones, and torn flesh. I know anon, I know.

I really, really hope that the Battle of Jakku gets the full treatment it deserves someday, not a shitty book or as a Battlefront map where the really interesting stuff happens offscreen or in the skybox. Give me a Rogue Squadron style game rendered with a AA or AAA budget to show off the massive scale of the space battle, or a true shooter campaign that shows the full horror on the ground from its hectic beggining the the desperate end as the few remaining survivors dish it out among the ruined ships. Battlefront opted for the last part, but because it was Battlefront it feels like a playground more so than a pitched battle.

Ironically, that fan film that just came out did it the best. You really got the feeling that this was the last stand of the Empire-all three characters had nothing to lose and seemed to know they were fighting to the last.

So, I've been giving some thought to statting out some custom ships for xwing. First thing that came to mind was the Jupiter 2 from the lost in space reboot. As a kid I had a model and a toy from the movie that would fit right into the game as either a large base ship or a huge ship. The look of it positively screams mon Cal design language and I think if I gave it sort of a home 1 paint job it would probably fit right in on the table. Anyone have any experience doing this sort of thing?

>>
>>49858761
>>49858744
As I recall, they just drastically reduce the size of the military, enough to where Starkiller Base is literally able to kill the NR navy because it was stationed around Hosnia. So yeah, there's still an NR military, but it's too weak to actually do much of significance.

Honestly this setting just seems so boring so far. It feels like the major plotpoints for TFA happen like, two years after Endor-the Empire is kill, the First Order is founded, and the NR gets rid of its defense. There doesen't seem to be much sense of gradual buildup to these things which would make them a logical decision. I blame it on TFA and pre-release materials not doing much to explain the situation, so now authors have to play catch up to explain it. But as a result we've completely lost any chance of a protracted NR vs Remnant war like in Legends, and I don't really know what they'll replace it with.
>>
>>49858761
IIRC the plan was to disband any sort of federal army or navy and rely completely on local defence forces, so those might be what's talked about. I may be getting my nucanon timeline mixed up due to the timeskips with very little infill, though

A lot of NuCanon stuff actually makes sense if you give it a bit of thought.
Like why didn't the Alliance hunt down the obviously unstable First Order? From TFA's Visual Dictionary (and possibly Bloodlines, I haven't read that yet), Leia wanted to, but the other senators plugged their ears and wanted to pretend that the war was over and that Leia was being a paranoid warmonger.

Some of the idiocy of NuCanon is definitely on the part of the characters in the 'verse and not necessarily the writers. Except Wendig.

Because the Rebel Alliance was founded by the peace faction in the senate during the end of the Clone Wars. I would argue that democracy isn't the best form of government, it's just the best at surviving. Saying that democracy is the best because everything else collapsed is like saying Jim Neidhart is a better wrestler than Owen Hart was because the former is still alive.

I guess a better example would be Eddie Guerrero and his nephew Chavo, since Eddie basically worked himself to death despite being a vastly superior wrestler to Chavo.
>>
>>49860949
The Event was Over the Limit 99. Thank fuck that the cameras were focused on the announcers when the fall actually happened.

The way it was supposed to go was that Owen was going to be lowered, going to get stuck about 10 feet off the ring... flail around like a goof (he was the blue blazer at the time) and then comically drop as a pratfall.

What happened is that Owen Hart was scared of heights, moved the wrong way, malfunction happened, and he fell onto a turnbuckle from 80 feet.
>>
>>49860949
Then that's a false comparison.
It would be like including a government system that collapsed because the entire country was destroyed by a volcano.

This is the logic a lot of NatSocs use- National Socialism didn't fail, it was destroyed by external circumstances. It's a relatively fair point: by losing the war and being utterly decimated, we'd never have gotten to see if the ideology would have held up on its own or collapsed.

The counter-arguement, of course, is that war with France and England to win back Germany's pride was an inherent part of the National Socialist platform due to their overwhelmingly romantic leanings.

>Romanticism: Not Even Once.
>>
>>49861201
Well that's another clear example of false equivalence.
Wars are casually related to government systems. Volcanic eruptions are not.
>>
>>49861253

Hence the counter-argument.
>>
>>49860897
The argument isn't whether or not it's the best form of government. You're assuming things by jumping to conclusions. Democracy sucks. But it at least internalizes a lot of it's corruption, and creates strife and conflict within itself to challenge it's own courses of action. It's still fucking awful, but all other governments we've tried so far are objectively worse. There is bound to be a better alternative, but we won't find it until things destabilize and a new system takes over. That is the worst part about government systems... The best minds can theorize new systems and create utopian systems, but you must overthrow the previous government(s) in order to even see whether or not it works. And even then, the region and population may not even be the ideal location/climate for this new government.

External wars or extortion seems to be a central tenet of national socialism, in that the state expends heavily on internal social and infrastructure programs, and in turn pays for it with external sources, rather than taxation. Possibly it could temporarily maintain its existance by using dissidents or undesirables as labour and looting their properties, but that as well is a very short-term solution.

You don't necessarily have to overthrow the government entirely. Either a droid is too expensive or owning slaves are seen as a status symbol
>>
>>49862044
Slaves are an easy way for people to figure out who the baddies are.
The empire doesn't need to take Wookies as slaves but the children watching Rebels on Saturday morning are less likely to grow up as imperial sympathizers if storm troopers are mean to the things that look like Chewbacca.
Slavery is a tool. Not for the people in the Star Wars universe. But the people who control it.
>>
>>49862044
Droids are generally not very good at adapting to things, slaves are better at that.

So my friend is telling me that because the Outrider appears in Disney Infinity, that makes both it and Dash canon. Looking it up, it just seems to be an easter egg, and doing more research shows that it pops up in the new season of Rebels. However, that also looks to be a easter egg, and is just a yt-2400 thrown in because the person who designed it is now working on Rebels. Lastly there was some sort of Outrider set at a Disney Star Wars celebration, which seems to have made IGN lose it's shit. Although that was posted last year and just looks to be IGN dropping the ball.

The generic YT-2400 is canon as of the A New Hope Special Edition. The Outrider itself and Dash & Leebo are not, as far as new material is concerned.

As far as the 2400 shown in Rebels promos? Who knows. Probably an original character & ship, but it'd be a hell of a thing if they slipped Dash back in as a surprise.

Technically, making a lightsaber requires force-alchemy. You're binding the entire thing together so it wont accidentally explode or fall apart. Just expand on that idea.

Honestly, I'd see a Dash Rendar film re-canonizing elements of SotE over young Han Solo anyday.

The one in the ANHSE was supposed to BE the Outrider.
I like the idea floated around here that Dash is canon, but his adventures, especially in the N64 game, are not. Just the tall tales he tells to his dates he wants to fuck.

What did they change it not to be. He's also mentioned in The Disney Infinity Hoth Battle. Some guy says "Glad K-3PO is here. He's got some great supplies. Cheaper then that smuggler guy was. Rendar, that was him. And his droid, Leebo, creeped me out too".

>Historically, people used slavery because they were assholes. Take the egyptians, for example.

Slavery wasn't used particularly heavily in Egypt, and where it was, it was used according to logical patterns: mass labor before the development of useful tools and beasts of burden.

The Pyramids were not built by oy vey enslaved jeeeeews. There's no evidence that most of the labor was enslaved at all, and much that they weren't.
>>
>>49863662

Well, if you want to be technical, serfdom can be seen as like slavery.

"Pharoah is a god, so he says to build a giant rock while the nile is inundated, should probably do that"

Specifically I'm unsure about the Primed Thrusters. I had a similar idea for a Rey-Poe list, except I used VI instead of Preds, 3P0 instead of Kanan and no modifications. Kanan certainly makes a lot of sense though and basically gives Rey a white K-Turn.

With the spoilers for the new Tech upgrades though I've modified my go-to PS9 Poe build to be
P9 over BB-8, Pattern Analyser, Title and Autothrusters/Integrated points depending.

Like I said, it looks fine, but I'd ditch Primed Thrusters and maybe just go for an iniative bid?

>>
>>49864196

Rey with 3P0 and Finn is fucking crazy if you think about it.
Say you get attacked from the front. You use 3P0 and say "No Evades" and you roll a blank. Free evade from Threepio. Finn then gives you an extra blank result and with Reys ability you reroll both of those dice.

So, you could potentially go from zero evades, to 3 on a Falcon.
>>
>>49864216
Our games use Legends as canon as long as it doesn't interfere with the new canon. So basically everything that came before the end of Return of the Jedi and some other small things.

This is what major medieval historians have started to argue anon. Or rather, that the basic structures that we come to identify with feudalism existed at certain times in certain places, but hardly ever all at once in the same place to form a single unified system. It's no different than what a clusterfuck trying to identify "captialism" or "communism" turns into when you start seriously looking at the policies of individual countries. Only in this case it's even worse because, unlike the convenient self-labeling of the modern era, no one fucking but the Lombardi Feudroum called themselves "Feudalist". And it distorts our understanding of history because people then look at history and expect to see the same systems all throughout Europe, the same way Che Guevara-shirt wearing twats read that Jesus didn't like rich people much in some endlessly reposted Tumblr quote and decide that he was "totally a socialist man." Applying modern constructions to history is fucking stupid and the the term Feudalism is modern. It was first used in the 16th century and effectively invented by Adam Smith and expanded on by Karl Fucking Marx. So no, I am not going "full retard", the American educational system is because it's stuffed with people who want to teach history the same way it was in the 19 fucking 50s because change is scary and all new developments in the field are clearly scury liberuuls trying to pervert traditional tellings of history. And then it falls on the fucking college system to educate people on the newest academic debates, but because some of what they teach is revisionist that too is labeled "liberuul propaganda," even when the professors teaching it hate liberalism with a burning passion 90% of the time.

So no anon, feudalism does NOT fucking exist and when you insist it does all you're telling me is that you're going to start talking about the fucking """"Dark Ages""""" or some shit.
>>
>>49864085
Please, you're lower than a slave. A master has responsibilities to their slaves, you are coerced to work under threat of a painful death by starvation or exposure, and even that is no guarantee you won't be discarded.

You've simply traded one collar for another.

From what I heard the debate seems to mostly be about separating Feudal politics of responsibility from the nitty-gritty "Manorial Economic Systems"

>>49864515
Yes yes, the Jeffersonian/Jacksonian philosophy of "Anyone that does not own enough land to at least subsistence farm if times go bad is no more than a slave." I do see some degree of merit in that viewpoint and it's also why I think failure to pay property taxes should result in being walled into your property and cut off from utilities and delivery via public roads rather than being evicted.

Not exactly the threat to discus it.

>separating Feudal politics of responsibility from the nitty-gritty "Manorial Economic Systems"

Bingo. That's exactly it. No one denies that, generally speaking, there was a hierarchy of servants under an instituted military class under nobility(with the nobility and military parts eventually integrating). It's the economic systems thing as part and parcel of this and having similar patterns across literal centuries that needs to go. And to do that you need to throw the baby out with the bathwater, because the baby is covered with shit.

That's what I mean about the baby anon. The term "feudalism" is so associated with those specific ideas, ESPECIALLY since Marx shat all over it, that it's become nearly useless.
