I really wondered between DG and IW, but after a few painting tests that didn't end well, I decided to go with IW, so mk3 is golden for me. I need advice on how to kit theLegion Assault Squads, terminators, and dreadnoughts for my Night Lords army.

Assault Squads
I have enough models to run 2 squads of 15 (not all of them are shown). As I'm using the previous version of Chaos Raptors, I'm pretty much stuck using twin lightning claws for the sergeants. But that still leave the 1-in-5 models upgrades. I was thinking of just going with 3 power weapons, but even then I'm stuck deciding between swords or axes.
Would it be worth taking a plasma pistol or two?
Should I go full metla bomb, or give them combat shields?

Terminators
I've got 10 Calth cataphractii termies and a single FW cataphractii weapon upgrade set (reaper autocannon, 1 HF, 2 hammers, 1 mace, 1 sword, etc)
I've got no idea how I'm going to kit them.

Dreads:
I've got 2 Calth contemptors and a single FW conversion beamer arm. I could run them as one of the following:

>1 w/ 2 ass-cannons, 1 w/ fist and beamer
>1 stock, 1 w/ ass-cannon and beamer
Thoughts?
Also, do you think the old metal Chaos Dreads would look alright in a 30k NLs army? There are several on ebay for rather cheap and I could get a whole squadron of them for heavy weapon support without spending too much $.

Anyway, thanks for any help you can provide. I'm mostly concerned with the assault marines; I may even try magnetizing the dreads and terminators.

I think they're too busy. Ever since the Chosen Chaos Marines from the 6/7e starter box came out, GW has been throwing more and more stuff onto models without really improving them. The Sternguard models, for example, are gaudy as all fuck, but the Custodes make them look positively conservative.
They should be ornate, yes, but dignified.
These models look like the Stormcast Eternals threw up on a very tall space marine.

I ended up taking IW. I'm shit-mud anon. As explained once, I tried many legions, narrowed down to DG or IW and couldn't paint DG without great difficulties because no airbrush, can't spray prime and white brush primer is more liquidy than a wash, so went for IW, realised they were the 4th Legion, and 4 is my lucky number so that did it. I now have 5 dudes, soon to be 6.

I like DG but I find it hard to make them feel like my guys by writing fluff. There weren't really any internal conflicts besides Typhon's shenanigans, the DG fleet always travelled in one blob so no room for any "lone company doing their own stuff", and all of them become slaves of Nurgle in the end.

I prefer swords. If you outnumber you get a to-wound bonus anyway, and you're more likely to outnumber at some point during the combat if you keep your initiative high.

The downside is that you need to stay away from terminators. If your assault squads are your only terminator killers, then you're back to axes or power fists (i'd only take one fist, on the sergeant I guess).

I also prefer the split contemptors (i.e. one with two fists).

My DG are a Battalion sent out to terrorise worlds into compliance and are then retasked with committing atrocities to try and draw the White Scars and shattered loyalist legions into a straight fight. I totally see why Alpha Legion are number one as their special snowflake rules will have a lot of people going for them.

Iron Warriors I get, too since they are the Chaos guys who tend to be the least crazy and thus have an actual aura of evil and badassness despite not having too strong an army.

Thousand Sons are probably the single most loved Chaos legion here based on previous polls, and they are my favorite, too so I see why they are high.

Imperial Fists have simple but powerful rules built into them so I can see why they are high.

But Death Guard? Why are they in top five in this poll? They are too damn slow to get shit done despite being hard to kill and there's no standout fluff stuff on them either.

What legion would you be painting them as? Black Legion doesn't exist in 30k, as their color scheme is a slightly different version of the SoH's 1st company that comprised the Justaerin Terminators, and Reavers, which were led by Abbaddon.

Mate, just paint them in whatever legion's colors you want to play as. Leave the Chaos stuff for Chaos.

Pretty good build, I'd personally go for a paragon blade but that's a game play choice, you need opponents permission to use the grave gauntlet though.

Looks like you'll be tough to kill, but you might be wanting for scoring - I guess that explains the Bitter - but I think a death star is likely to get tied in combat and not score so good

mainly for scoring, though also for the hatred as the local area has quite a few traitor players
it may be optimistic to expect, but I feel like outside of running into primarchs+fat termi bodyguards the Immortals, Praetor and Forge Lord can handle most units in a round or two and come out on top, especially with the firepower afforded by glaive+medusas
I could also be completely wrong but I guess that's inexperience talking

I bought my first BaC box on Monday, if I'd have waited a fucking week I'd have MkIII Imperial Fists

Oh well, maybe I'll just field 60 Tactical Marines and have done with it
