Talk all about Warhammer Fantasy. Some people are still SJW-level triggered by End Times, so I'm required to say that you should limit discussion about it since it's seen as the start of AoS even though this hasn't stopped anyone. If anything, please limit the shitposting. If you don't like something (like Endhammer) just ignore it.

nice to see the general back

who is the most powerful warrior of each race in the Warhammer setting? and why?
>>
I'll post in this thread. Accidentally posted it in an offshoot WHF thread earlier. I am just learning the table top:
Say I have a unit with just fine models, and something flanks. They have one model in contact with my right most model. They kill a model, it's removed. They are now next to a blank space. Does the enemy flanking move up to meet the remainder of the unit? Does it stay that distance away and have to move next turn? Or does my unit shrink to them and go into base contact?
(I understand this is pretty wordy, and I would have drawn a diagram but I'm mobile posting from work. A page number in mini BRB would work too)

>>49706038
I only really know the lore for skaven. with them it gets odd, because the political chain is all back stabbing and deception. The strong guys are usually just brutes. After having read warp spawn, I would Say Ikit Claw is the top. Hes pretty fucking intelligent, holds his place on the council, and has a fuck ton of magi-tech.In a cut throat empire like that, lasting that long is an accomplishment

as far as I know, no, the combat happens with the models in contact, at the end of the turn, you get to reassemble your unit to fill in the front rank and so on, at least, I think

God I'm so happy they're bring back the old models. I was always shocked they even discontinued those Tomb King ones when they were so new.

Looking forward to finally getting some Dwarf miners, Dark Elf bolt throwers and best of all a hell cannon.

May even pick some special characters up since there's no telling if they'll get squatted in the future.

For Lizardmen it would be Kroq-Gar who is credited in killing thousands of enemy heroes/lords in the 9000 something years he has been alive. And lorewise Saurus got stronger and tougher as the get older so by virtue of the being the oldest one still alive he is by default the strongest. Shame though that it isn't represented in his actual stats.
>>
>>49706614
You only remove from the back of the unit, unless a character or champ is killed in wich they are removed & rank and file members step in.
If you have a unit in the flank (or the rear) they are still removed from the last rank. With rear charges in cases of uneven ranks the defending unit fills the gap
>>
>>49706614
I'd say it's a 3-way tie with the Skaven. Like you said, political intrigue and backstabbing are the only indicators of power that matter in Skaven society, but I think luck has something to do with it too. So in a weird way I think Thanquol is up there, just by virtue of knowing how to play the game.
As far as "best fighter," in the contemporary sense? Probably Queek Headtaker. Love that little fucker.
>>
Where can I find official pictures (the pictures from the webstore) of squatted miniatures from Fantasy? It's easy for 40k because Lexicanum preserves them, but not the fantasy ones.

I think I'm running warhammer fantasy roleplay wrong. It's 2e and we've been playing for 19 sessions and nobody has died. The number of critical hits the party has taken have been max 3, total. I'm not sure why they're succeeding so well, but I'm fairly certain it's because I'm not being hard enough on them?

Ideas?
>>
>>49709363
An official Games Workshop store (Salisbury I think) posted the announcement on their Facebook. They have since confirmed that it is true.

There are two caveats though. When they say 'all models' we have no idea what this really means. Could be stuff from a year ago, could be stuff from the 1990's. Molds cost a fortune to retool, so it's going to be dependent on what's still usable.

Secondly, it will cost more. Print on demand is always quite a bit more expensive.
>>
>>49709527
I think the problem is that if people do play, they just don't talk about it in general. It's not like the 40k general, which is entirely devoted to play, since so much 'lore discussion' happens in other random threads.

>how is it that Iron Age level pre-Sigmar tribal dudes were able to get their hands on thick honkin' plate armor and then be buried with it forever?
Simple solid "plate" armor is not that new, fully articulated plate armor is a different matter

Also, all grave guards have been at some point notable warriors and nobles, which meant valuable equipment to be buried with, general soldiers from those times are simple skeletons

Real world Myceneans had something like plate armor, and breastplates are something that most every civilization has developed in some form. Even Native Americans occasionally had copper breastplates, or wood or shell armor.

The reason they weren't disturbed is because not only would they sometimes rise and defend themselves, but their tombs are generally considered cursed or sacred.

>Warriors of chaos- villitch

Archaon defeated villitch, and only he had the sorcerous might, among all those who serve Chaos, to take control over a Wind of Magic. Not just any Wind of Magic, it was the Wind of Heavens which is the bane of Chaos. He ripped it out of the Incarnate Karl/Sigmar and banished away.

Also there is the fact that he claimed the Ghal Maraz from Valten. Ghal Maraz's holy presence is extremely for those touched by Chaos. Servants of Chaos can hardly look at its radiance. Archaon held it in his hands and spent days on end examining it and gently stroking it. This indicates that Archaon's magic resistance and wards are absolute.

Malekith outranks Morathi as a magic user. Old canon is he was able to harness the power of the Old Ones, new canon was him being the master of Shadow magic. Morathi doesn't have a purpose outside of being a Chaos Elf.

Teclis outranks Alarielle I think.

>>
>>49718894
It's not the incest or the cannibalism (not directly) that turns them into Ghouls. It's Dark Magic.

Men who became Ghouls lived in areas where Dark Magic was a abundant. Also they fed on the carrion and the long dead. Corpses overtime gather a soak a lot of dark magic so eating them transfers the dark magic to the eater and mutates him. How fast the transformation/mutation depends on how much dark magic the subject is exposed to.

Cannibalism itself is okay as long as you stick to the freshly killed. (See Sigvald).
>>
>>49718896
It looks more like he got his ass handed to him in a magic duel until he got lucky with a punch. Most of his spells didn't work against her at all, and her spells kept on fucking him over.

You can argue that Malekith won the overall fight, and honestly it is good to not rely totally on magic and know your other options. That's part of the reason why I think he's managed to hold on for so long.

But in a magical sense, he was completely rekt by his mother. He lost the magic duel but won the fight.

>>
>>49718894

Incest has nothing to do with becoming a ghoul. Matter of fact, neither does being a cannibal.

These are humans who have no individuality or conscience. According to the Nehekharans, this was enough to make an 'undead' even though the individual body is 'alive.'
>>
>>49725724
Cannibalism seems to almost always be tied to the transformation, though. I've never heard of how it specifically happens.

File: var.jpg (555KB, 838x1172px) Image search: [Google]
var.jpg
555KB, 838x1172px
>>49726002

There are seven bindings in all sentient living things according to the Nehekharans:

Kha - Physical body
Ka - Abstract thought
Ba - Subconscience; emotion
Ab - Conscience morality
Sekhem - Life energy
Ren - Really weird, but described like the individual. The very notion of 'self' according to the universe. Destroying Ren made the whole world forget who you are.
Khaibit - Actual shadow. Best indicator of mortality, or being affected by time. According to this, gods have no shadows.

So ghouls have no Ren or Ab, but have the rest and are still considered undead. Cannibalism is such a mentally damaging act that it drains a being of individuality and morality.

Likely, morality goes first, overwritten by survival instincts. Followed by the cannibalism, which drives the individual out of the Kha once the person goes insane.

The big problem with 1e is that all endgame characters, and even most of the early game characters, all play the same. And wizards suck dick in 1e. This was fixed in 2e.

The only really bad thing about 2e is that priests (Divine wizards) are nerfed all to hell until very late in the game. Easily houseruled with +1 Magic characteristic like actual wizards have.
>>
>>49726950
the system is more elegant in 2ed
>in 1e you use all de dice set for the sake of using them (it was because at the time it was more popular to use all the set)

But it is still out of date. 2e takes place immediately after the Storm of Chaos, which by now has been ruled non-canon repeatedly.

My group gets around this by setting our games before 2522, ignoring SoC/End Times, or both.

Best WHF novel I've ever read is The Burning Shore. The author read the first-hand account of a conquistador conquering Mexico alongside Cortez and Warhammer'd it, even keeping the army composition the same. It's got amazing, flavorful depictions of life on a ship during the voyage to Lustria, and you can even feel the cloying, humid heat of the jungle.

I used to be an English major for what it's worth.

Anyone here interested in 9th age?
Next update is coming soon and I got spoilered with one of the things that will change: army composition.

At the moment there is lot's of '0-x' choices or 'can't take x if you have y' shit to keep shooting and monsters balanced. Seems like they want to drop that in favour of army specific composition rules.
>Lords + Heroes > % depends on army
>Total Characters > % depends on army
>Core > Minimum % depends on army
>special as much as you like
>NO RARE but ONE OR MORE army specific slots

Thoughts? On the one hand I like it because it makes armies more diverse and might finally balance monsters and artillery by putting them in extra slots. Then again it complicates the game even further making it less acceccible. Also how well it works will depend on the new % not being poorly thought out, previous lists destroying shit.

Are the Marks of Chaos and the eight-pointed Chaos star known symbols among common men in the Old World?

I'm building a Pit Fighters warband for Mordheim using Chaos models. I want to fluff them as escaped slaves from Troll Country/Kislev that unknowingly were used for Khorne worship by their masters, but that idea is kind of stupid if their iconography would instantly be recognized as heresy as soon as they entered the pits by commoners, scholars or off-duty soldiers.
>>

Wrong thread, m8.

So is there any way to use penanggalan in Warhammer? I got the Malifaux model for one just because it was cool but it'd be a neat proxy.

They're south Asian vampires. Basically a person, always seems to be a woman, who seems normal during the day but at night they sit down to relax and their head lifts off their body with their organs and spinal cord, flying around the countryside. There's different versions of the story depending on country, but the basic versions are that they help pregnant women but kill everyone else, or prey exclusively on pregnant women. Parts of Vietnam use them as a superhero/boogyman who kills criminals.
>>
According to liber necris, vampires are immune to chaos because they exist solely on the material plane. Their entire soul is bound to their corporeal form so they have no warp reflection for the gods to toy with. Not if sure if tomb kings have the same deal going in with them, it doesn't explicitly state anything about them.

one of the big unspoken "empire rules" in the game is no monsters (gryphons being the only exception because >noble beasts)

There are giants in the Empire and many ogres too, but they are not represented in the game, only in the lore

of course, then cock riders/demigryphs came and shat all over everything flavorful about the Empire, so you could just proxy Ogres as them?

>>49747086
I'm no expert but I'll give my two cents after having read through the rulebook a couple of times and played a few sessions recently.

Mordheim is focused on the narrative experience and having fun rather than competitive gameplay. That's not to say that it's unbalanced, but there are a number of pitfalls and you could accidentally create cheesy lists (the tl;dr to that is basically "don't go 100% ranged"). Either way, you should pick a warband you like the fluff/aesthetic of first and foremost.

The base rulebook mercenaries are very similar and you basically choose between specializing in melee with Middenheim, ranged with Reikland and generalist with Marienburg.
Outside of the main rulebook warbands, there are the Averlanders, Ostlanders and Kislevites.
Averlanders are ranged specialists who replace melee-focused champions with bowmen trappers and can hire halfling scouts instead of swordsmen.
Ostlanders are a drunken redneck family with double-barreled guns that have to waste their money on the flashiest item they can find before anything else, who get a forest/beast priest instead of youngbloods, drunkards instead of swordsmen and can't recruit hired swords but can instead hire an ogre.
Kislevites are not!Russians/Polacks with access to vodka and a trained bear, they have no swordsmen and get fewer marksmen but instead have a halberd+handgun "gun rest" combo.

You want to start off with as many Heroes as you can, as those are the ones that get to search for wyrdstone between games. Don't invest a lot into armour when starting out, helmets are fine on more valuable models but light/heavy armour is super expensive for what you get, only consider it on your leader at first. Bucklers are good in combination with certain weapons but shields aren't great until you get the aforementioned armour to stack up your save so that your shield doesn't get ignored by S4 base, S3+halberd, S3+axe etc.
>>
>>49747086
>>49752638
Dual wielding is the norm when starting out.
Every model gets one dagger free, but other than that daggers are kind of shit.
Mace/hammer/club (they're all the same ruleswise) or axe should be your go-to cheap weapons and can be dual wielded effectively with anything.
Swords are your expensive option with better defense, dual swords are pointless on anything but swordsmen.
Cheap option for dual wielding would be club+free dagger for 3gc, regular option is any combination of clubs and axes for 6-10gc and rich man's option with better defense would be sword+club or sword+axe for 13/15gc.

Non-dual wielding options primarily give you better defense or more strength.
Club/axe+buckler is the cheaper defensive option instead of club/axe+sword.
Sword+buckler gives you better parrying but you're investing a lot into an unreliable form of defense.
Spear+buckler (shield on henchmen) is kind of expensive but is useful for suicide tactics to let those models stand in front and take the brunt of charges.
Morning stars (one-handed flail style, not spiked-ball-on-a-stick style), halberds and 2H weapons are a bit weak when starting out but become considerably better when models gain experience and get more base attacks (which also makes dual wielding weaker).
Morning star+buckler is expensive but a decent balance between offense and defense. +1S in the first turn is less useful than it first seems, since most fights are drawn out as models miss, get knocked down/stunned, new models join the fray on both sides etc.
Halberds are the go-to strength weapon early on, they're cheap enough and always work.
2H weapons are subpar at first, they'll get focused down by the opponent and many times won't get to strike. They become amazing once you get the Strongman skill which lets you ignore "always strikes last". They are slightly better on Middenheimers who start out with S4 and therefore get S6 in total, meaning that models with S3 can't parry their attacks.
>>
>>49747086
>>49752638
>>49752748
For ranged weapons, bows and crossbows are your go-to when starting out. You should not invest in bows/crossbows for your melee dudes at first, only once you have cash flow and you already have ranged superiority. Similarly, don't spend too much on melee weapons for ranged dudes at first. Start out with club+free dagger, or a sword for better defense if you're feeling spendy.
Bow is the standard option. Longbow is +50% cost for +25% range which is alright but too expensive at first. If you have shooting superiority, you will control where the fighting happens and the 6" shorter range won't matter too much.
Crossbows are very expensive, but S4 and 30" range is nothing to fuck with. Move or fire is not as bad as it seems, since there's no maximum turn limit you have time to set up in a perch and create firing lanes for your opponent to deal with.
Handguns are worse crossbows in every way except against models with 5+ save or better, which is rare when starting out. Needs the Hunter skill, and then only when you know you're facing armoured foes.
Blunderbusses and hunting rifles are silly and fun with niche uses, but nothing to consider early on.
Pistols and duelling pistols are great, but shouldn't be considered ranged weapons. To use them, you're placing yourself in charge range of your opponent.
They are an amazing luxury item for dual wielders though, who either get to make a pot shot right before the fighting begins, or get to make an off-hand shot in the first round of combat. Models can carry their free dagger, up to 2 melee weapons and up to 2 ranged weapons, so it's a pure bonus to them.
Whether you buy them early on is up to you, they're costly but not much more so than other options and should be considered a risky offensive option for dual wielders. You're basically deciding between the cheaper "2 melee weapons now, pistol later" or the more expensive "1 melee weapon+free dagger+pistol now, better melee weapons later".

So for the PC master race, you can wait a year or two and get a $60 game with $50 of DLC for like $30 at Christmas, Halloween if horror or spooky-themed, mid summer, or sporadically through the year as the entire catalog of a specific publisher goes on sale.

Shit man thanks. Saving for future reference.

Mind posting the warband you're currently playing and how it's fairing against the others?
>>
>>49760514
No problem.

I play Skaven, here's the warband I started out with at 485gc:
Assassin adept with weeping blades and throwing stars
Eshin sorcerer with fighting claws
2x black skaven with spear and buckler
2x night runners with slings
2x verminkin with club and shield
2x verminkin with sword and shield

The throwing stars, shields and bucklers weren't really worth it but I wanted to keep it WYSIWYG.
From there on, besides replacing casualties, I've given one black skaven a halberd, light armour and helmet and the other sword, light armour and buckler (mostly to be able to use the awesome stormvermin models) and I've increased the club group to 3 members and created a new verminkin group with 1 spear+shield.
Future plans are to increase the amount of henchmen until I get close to the cap, start handing out light armour and helmets to the henchmen and searching for warplock pistols for a night runner with Weapons Expert.

I've lost most of my matches but always managed to get away relatively unscathed (poor leadership means that the game often ends on my involuntarily rout), and being able to start out with 6 heroes to search for wyrdstone means that I've gotten lots of gold so my warband is steadily improving.
I think I currently have the highest warband rating with 160ish, two of my opponents have 150ish (one of which had to restart because of horrible losses), one has 100ish (albeit with less games played) and there are a couple that haven't started playing yet (initial rating is around 70-100 depending on the warband).

No Giant Rats? Also that's pretty tame as far as Skaven list goes. My last campaign with Skaven had Rat Ogre in the starting roster. It's a bit of a gamble, because you can lose tons of money in couple crits, but the thing is a goddamn rapetrain, especially early on when vast majority of the stuff it will be facing is S3 T3.

>In WFRP one lucky hit can kill anything, so risk will always be there in the back
They're loving it, but it feels wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I typically don't create very strong enemies. The players just think I memorize stats, but in reality I just make up a target number and decide how many hits they take with pointless rolling for show. Maybe I should stop that.

Hmmm, I could try, but it would take a while. Honestly some of my favorite Warhammer Fantasy books are the splatbooks for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. The closest historical equivalent of the silly head dresses would be parade and jousting garb. There aren't any historical minis that I know of that aren't large display pieces, as cheap minis to spam boards with tend to be military in nature; Polish hussars are the exception as they only come in parade gear due to historical depiction problems. TL;DR: your gonna have to kit bash that shit son.

Spanish warhammer copies to the rescue, sadly no ponies but hey if you are getting into 9th age they are perfect because they have rules for dismounted knights:

As individual combatants, I agree.

Arkhan was able to cutdown what are essentially demigods and super human Nehekaran Kings before the destruction of the covenant in the time of legends books.

Gorthor is dead but he would be the most powerful beastman warrior. Malekith is better than Kouran overall, but Kouran might be a more skilled combatant. Shadow blade is probably the best solo fighter on the dark elf roster. He was able to go toe to toe with incarnate malekith, and only lost because Malekiths connection to shadow gave him a massive advantage he normally wouldn't have.

Settra>Arkhan. They're about even, with Settra being a better fighter and being stronger, while Arkhan is better at magic. Every time they fought it ended in a draw with Arkhan submitting to Settra. Until the endtimes, when Settra finally settles the score and BTFOs Arkhan

Through the manipulation of Vlad, he turned to Necromancy to rescue Karl. He wasn't a necromancer and still isn't.

>>Ungrim Ironfist gets killed offscreen

He tried to suicide bomb Archaon.

>>Vlad comes back Somehow

Literally a major piece of the plotline of the first book what do you mean somehow? What the fuck you didn't read the books, did you?

Nagash brings him back by painfully tearing a piece of flesh from Mannfred and breathing Vlad's soul into it

>>Vampires ally with the Empire to stop Chaos

Only Vlad and a few of his brood.

The rest are either killed or corrupted buy Chaos.

>>Teclis ritual almost succedes but Mannfred goes full retard at the last minute without any reason and fucks it up

Lies.

Before the Mannfred did his thing, the ritual was influx. It was far from certain.

It would have been certain had Mannfred decided to help out but alas

>full retard

Remember what Mannfred said?

Paraphrasing : Better be the right hand of anarchy than be a slave to Nagash.

The "Good Guys" fucked him over and betrayed If the "good guys" won, then Mannfred would have no where to go but be a slave to Nagash again or be hunted and killed or worse by the Elves. He had no options in a world saved from Chaos. So he choose to serve the Chaos Gods wish and stop the ritual. I would have done the same if I was in his place. It was the only logical thing to do for someone in his position. However, the Chaos Gods proved to be as generous as usual and gifted Mannfred with crippling madness instead of elevating him for his service.

tl;dr

Mannfred did nothing wrong.
>>
>>49769005
Different person here.

>The rest are either killed or corrupted buy Chaos.

Literally only the Blood Dragons went Chaos. Not Abhorash, just his lieutenant and the generic nameless ones.

Very few Vampires actually died. Fuck, looking at AoS it seems like they only die if Nagash doesn't want to let them come back to life.

As far as deaths on screen or even implied, only Vlad died.
>Before the Mannfred did his thing, the ritual was influx. It was far from certain
>It would have been certain had Mannfred decided to help out but alas
That's the exact same thing, dumbass. Its a binary choice. You either help or hinder. Him walking away would also count as going full retard and fucking it up.

>Paraphrasing : Better be the right hand of anarchy than be a slave to Nagash
>Mannfred did nothing wrong.
Ph, nevermind. You're a contrarian dumbass.

Reminder that AoS invalidates your theory, because Mannfred will never not be Nagash's slave by virtue of Nagash permanently controlling death and the forces that animate the dead. So all he really did was shit the bed.

>Literally only the Blood Dragons went Chaos. Not Abhorash, just his lieutenant and the generic nameless ones.

Mannfred as well.

All others died including Abhorash (source Josh Reynolds).

>looking at AoS it seems like they only die if Nagash doesn't want to let them come back to life.

Nagash only ressed his three Motarch who he respected. Mannfred, Arkan, and Nef-chan. The rest of the vamps died out. The soulblight of AoS are the get of Nef, Mannfred, and Ushoran. There are no other lines.

>only Vlad died.

Did you forget the character that challenged Nagash and died? Or Harkon?

>That's the exact same thing, dumbass. Its a binary choice. You either help or hinder. Him walking away would also count as going full retard and fucking it up.

Just nope on two accounts. Mannfred was given two choices. Help or stop. The fluff even lamented how Mannfred could have saved the day but choose not to. Mannfred choose the option that would fuck him over the least.

Mannfred in AoS is waaaaay better off than what would have happened to him if WHFB was saved.
>Ph, nevermind. You're a contrarian dumbass.

No you are the dumnass.

>Reminder that AoS invalidates your theory, because Mannfred will never not be Nagash's slave by virtue of Nagash permanently controlling death and the forces that animate the dead. So all he really did was shit the bed.

Except that's wrong. Mannfred from time to time rebels against Nagash and have hatched plans aimed at usurping Nagash. He nearly succeed in one of them but was stopped by the Stormcast. For the longest time there was a storyline about Mannfred being on the run from Nagash.

Furthermore, not all Undead serve Nagash. Nagash had to fight long wars until he subjugated the Realm of Shyish under his power, and still there are undead who refuse to serve him for example a huge portion of the Ghoul Kings/Flesh Eater Courts.

Cont'ed....

Walking away is the dumbest option for Mannfred because

A) If the ritual fails on its own and the world is destroyed, then the Chaos Gods will not reward him

B) If the world is saved, then his pale butt will belong to Nagash or the Elves

The ONLY logical option for Mannfred that won't necessarily end with him getting fucked over was helping Chaos and hoping their fickleness won't switch to cruel prank mode.

Again, Mannfred did nothing wrong and you all would have done the same if you were in his position.
>>
>>49769538

>>
>>49770100
So basically unless someone died on-screen, they can't actually be called dead, and even then they still can't because Nagash can resurrect anyone he wants.

Literally capeshit.
>>
>>49770312
>the God of death, necromancy and the afterlife being able to bring people back

No Mannfred is totally Nagash' slave. He spent the vast majority of his time in AoS lording over some shitty subrealm where everything decays faster than it can be built. There's a bit of it in Storm of Chaos. King Leoncoeur calls an Errantry War when he hears that Chaos is about to invade the Empire. This is basically a crusade with almost exclusively Knights Errant. That's pretty much it.

The army list is almost the same as the regular Bretonnia one, albeit with only Knights Errant counting as minimum core choices, and they can have a Grail Knight as their champion. They're also a lot more impetuous.

I also seem to recall something about a Bretonnian crusade against either Estalia or Cathay that was just full of carnage.
>>
>>49770859
Kroak is the only one to have truly ressurected. Everyone else was either brought back by a chaos God or came back through necromancy
>>
>>49771401
That's the Crusades Against Araby. Araby invaded Estalia, at the bad advice of the Skaven, and Bretonnia started the Errantry War in response. The Empire's Knightly Orders joined too, but their contribution was much smaller than that of Bretonnia which was an entire generation, and the more experienced knights, falling down on them. They kicked the Arabyans out of Estalia and then followed them home. After killing the Sultan and dismantling his armies, the Bretonnians took everything that wasn't nailed down and sailed home. The Knightly Orders stayed behind to search for Estalian slaves, returning about a hundred years after the war ended.
>>
>>49771483
I never understood the bit about the imperial Knights remaining in Araby for a century. Unless they somehow lived that long, it seems pointless to spend the rest of your life in a conquered country, have children there, and raise them to be Knights who hate araby just as much.
Apparently them being there for so long is why Gorthor was able to ravage the empire so badly, there were no Knights and gunpowder wasn't as widespread yet
>>
>>49771612
That's what happened with the Crusader States. I imagine the 'return after a century' means that's when the last Imperial knight left for good. They might have left and come back, some Orders left later than others. Not to mention that some squires at the beginning of the war could have lived especially long, I believe the Knights of Malta were known for several members that lived well into their 80's.

No items, no army, final destination? Even without magic Arkhan can push his shit in. Settrra's strength has always been his tactical mind and leadership rather than individual badassery ( no matter what his fans tell you).

>>49776233
Also, anyone know if calculus has been invented in the setting?
>>
>>49772631
>Even without magic Arkhan can push his shit in.
That's horse shit and you know it. Magic is the only thing that keeps this a fight. Settra BTFO dozens of tomb kings in personal combat during the initial awakening and forced Arkhan to flee. If Arkhan was as strong as his fanboys made him out to be, there's no reason he doesn't just BTFO Settra and take over nehekara for himself

>>49772792
Arkhan was trying to run away when Settra finally cut him down. Granted, it was all part of a very intricate plan that easily could have been fucked up if Settra did anything with Arkhans body other than take it into the temple.
>>
>>49776233
House rules helps, but if it comes down to line combat then maybe your players just need some inspiration. Mine are notorious for trying to gain every advantage they can, setting traps, laying ambushes, scouting, etc.

>>49776253
Settra can't beat Arkhan because of his magic. Arkhan can't beat Settra because of his command of tactics. Their army book says it always comes down to a stalemate and Arkhan says he'll stop being a dick, and Settra leaves to fry bigger fish.

Arkhans magic would do little to Settra alone. Without his magic resistance (3) amulet he was still able to walk through a barrage of Nagash' point blank spells that BTFO everything around him, with no damage taken. With it, it might have been a fair fight.
Settra not being able to best Arkhan probably has more to do with Arkhan teleporting away whenever he gets caught and rezzing his troops faster than Settra can. The magic won't do much to Settra, and in a straight up fight Arkhan loses handily. I know game stats Aren't entitely fluff accurate, but it's quite telling that Settra is WS7 a4 w4 s6 while Arkhan is only ws4 a3 w3 s5

Makes sense. Undead get massive boosts to basically everything with willpower. That's the only thing that differentiates a Wight King from Grave Guard, retaining more of their personality.

Settra has the strongest will in all of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k to be promised everything by Chaos with no strings attached and say no because it meant he'd be a subordinate to infinitely powerful beings. Archaon and Abaddon have to do a job to keep their power, Settra was just given all of it to enjoy as he saw fit like a Greater Daemon of Chaos Undivided.

If anything, Settra's stats should be even higher.

False for Saurus Warriors, but true for Temple Guards. They have a rule detailing it.
>>
>>49777901
If they actually do more than just the recently killed Fantasy lines, I'm gonna scoop up as many halfling minis as I can get. Followed by some Brets, Mordheim and Necromunda figures, and some Chaos Dwarves.

>there was a quidditch game

Whoah

Games Workshop actually has a complicated history. Most people aren't even aware they're one of the first distributors of D&D, and had the rights to Judge Dredd and Dr. Who.

Settra has a will so immense Nagash can't dominate him or even wrest control of his army from him. He's the only tomb King that can stay awake without having to return to his tomb to magically regenerate, and recovers far faster than the others. His stats are almost on par with greater daemons though, thry pretty accurately reflect where he's at. If anything he should have a better weapon, or his armor from 6ed.

I wonder how many people face tomb kings thinking they're going to be brittle skeletons only to find out they're hard as rock and strong enough to tear men in half?
>>
>>49780307
Huh. Too bad the undead are cut off from the Warp, Settra could probably become the God Emperor of Fantasy through sheer force of will alone by shaping himself a portion of it and claiming it as his own as a new Chaos entity.

I mean, he had the worship for it. He's Pharaoh, a living god.
>>
>>49780448
Being cut off from the warp means chaos can't fuck with you directly, I think its a good trade off. Besides, what good is being a King in the warp when nothing you do is lasting?

It'd be lasting as long as he wills it. The damage that gets done to Tzeentch's maze by Draigo mends immediately after all.

His section of the Warp would be shifting eternal sand in all directions, with his ludicrously massive eternal golden palace city on the scale of pic related compared to the rest of the Warp.
>>
>>49777901
The first wave is just going to have a couple of old imperial guardsmen
>>
Why is chaos so fucking useless? You could easily replace them with greenskins or undead in everything and the setting would be better for it.

Nah, Chaos is actually quite interesting once you look beyond the scowling dumb dark knights and into the cosmological stuff.
>>
>>49783257
This.

Warriors and Archaon suck most of the fun out.
>>
>>49783257
>Chaos is actually quite interesting
How?
There's 4 gods, each one being an unidimensional deity of infinite power and infinite legions of incredibly powerful Daemons

The setting would be much better off without Chaos

Sorry, just playing the devil's advocate to start some discussion, dead thread

In old Warhammer writing, quite a few important characters literally started as hating Chaos and falling to it in order to fight fire with fire.
Like the evil alignment in D&D, you don't automatically side with other evil.

GW writing took a nosedive though and now you have to love and respect your Chaos God, only the Darth Vader of the setting is allowed to have his own opinion.
>>
>>49787816
Well it kind of makes sense - as much as the various gods have their rivalries, if you worship them as a whole, why would you hate them?
>>
Are there any files/scans of the various fantasy artbooks in the file deposits, like the Age of Reckoning concept art book? I can't find any.

The gods are a real and accepted part of life, hating them is like hating the weather where you live. Getting dicked over by chaos gods who don't care about your life is a pretty good motivator
>>
>>49790357
I'm not following that logic. I can't hate the weather for being the weather, and it does nothing to be mad at something I can't change - at best I'm vaguely disgruntled at it.

Seconding this question. That's pretty important.

Here's a compilation of all the information I've been able to find about Araby from the WHFRP 2e books (at least the ones I've finished reading). Some of it deals with the Crusades I think

In my games I rule that Perception works like Sense Motive would in other games. It's probably the skill we use most, since it covers general overviews, close detail, changes in environment, motives, etc.
>>
>>49791383
Basically, its Greek gods.

Can you really be mad at beings so much higher than you that you're sub-bacteria? Can you really justify their bullshit just because you're afraid of angering them?

Also, I can hate the weather. I can hate anything, be angry at anything, and if a horrible 90 degree heat summer drought had a mind and a personality, I'd spite the fuck out of it by destroying everything it cared about with all the strength I had, regardless of how little that actually matters in the long run.

I mean, if nothing you do really matters because you're not important, you may as well bare your asshole and give the middle finger to those that do and work against you.

But in modern GW writing, the only way to work against Khorne is to join Nurgle, Tzeentch, or Slaanesh, and you end up displaying the symbols and singing the praise and power of your patron. You can't just hate Chaos to be Chaos apparently.
>>
Is there a compilation anywhere of sourcebooks for 1st edition WHFRP? I only see 2nd and 3rd edition stuff.

Well of fucking course people are triggered by End Times, IT LITERALLY FUCKING KILLED THE FANTASY LINE

Now all we get is Age of Sigmarines.

I'm not triggered really because I never played fantasy or was really that into the lore, but it's pretty fucking obvious anyone who ever did would get prettty godamn upset about the event that literally killed their favorite game/setting.

Ok general, I need your aid.

I have become highly interested in running a Dwarfs army and would like any possible lore about a certain hold... Kraka Ravnsvake specifically. I am interested in the Norsca Dwarfs, but don't know much about them and can't find much.

There is a good amount of Kraka Drak lore (which is the biggest northern hold), but not much on the other northern holds.

I can't seem to find color schemes, lore or symbols.

Does anyone here have any info?
>>
>>49793716
>Kraka Ravnsvake
Why this hold in particular? As you yourself lament, there isn't much on it (except possibly in German).
>>
>>49793787
I'm drawn to the sort of raven theme and the struggle to survive against the northern barbarians who are literally always at the gates.
>>
>>49793804
Best you could do is some digging in fan sites. It's harder to get good info on than Karak Norn.
