Fairly happy with it? Feel as though the drum from a Cataphractii's combi bolter works well. I know I could have cannibalized a heavy bolter from BaC to have a more stably supported underslung firing position rather than this sort of joystick thing I've got going in here, but I wanna retain those to use for other squads.

Well, do remember that a fair few people like the idea of 30k because they can take lots of power armoured space marines, something that's a pretty stupid idea in the current 40k meta. It's unsurprising that army lists that murder power armoured dudes in swathes don't impress opponents - someone might as well play against tau or eldar if they just want to take handfuls of dead marines off the table every turn.

I think this works better. Gotta fill in some of the scars left from joining the heavy bolter grip to the launcher tube, but thanks to the Anon who encouraged me to go for it.

Incidentally, look at this weird MkIV helmet from the Assault Squad kit that has an opening on the face plate over the respirator grille - looks reminiscing of Production MkV and later MkVII ANGRYFACE respirators.

As this >>49700370 said, the most important rule of 40k (and hell, most games in general) is to have fun. The main reason I got disillusioned by the regular 40k meta and Warmahordes was the obsession with WAAC to the detriment of just about every other element of the hobby.

If I showed up to a gaming table with my foot-slogging infantry list and my opponent plopped down 9 vindicators, you'd better believe I'd ask for some serious bonuses to balance things out (eg. loads of terrain, orbital bombardment, destroyed units are put into ongoing reserve).

What's the point in setting up all your minis, placing terrain, rolling for initiative, etc. if the game is just inevitably going to devolve into one player removing (expensive) troops with a shovel while the other spends a half-hour each shooting phase putting down templates?

The brb doent say theres a limit on how many units can embark or disembark from a superheavy transport at a time. Does that mean that every unit embared can barf out at once?

Also, it says that macharius variants can be taken as LoW, does that mean I can take a Gorgon since it is technically built on a Macharius chasis?

It's good for high-value units that want to jump out and unload on something rather than charge. If you have the points to spare and really want to make sure something like a squad with plasma guns or heavy flamers gets close enough to do what they do best, a proteus provides a lot more protection than a rhino.

Depends on who you order from, I suppose. The Alpha Legion bits I ordered before stopping with them had a surprising lack of issues. One shoulder was thin and one torso had a fucked up detail, but 2 out of 30 is a pretty good ratio. I ordered from Z. Just to be certain though, I'd order one or two extra kits.

Personally I'm a big fan of using combat shields for a command squad. The 5++ in melee might not seem much, but it can really make a difference. Also makes it less of a gamble when one or two have powerfists or axes, and you charge them into something that can swing with AP 2 at higher initiative.

So, I have a few questions: To preface, I have around a 100 or so Tactical Marines, along with the Betrayal at Calth box set contents. I have also 2 Dreadnoughts, 15 Terminators, and 2 Rhinos. I also have a variety of devastators, Veterans, Captains, Chaplains, etc.

My only problem is, is that most of them are Mk.7 armors or Indominatus pattern Terminator armor. Would you play against a oppenent who uses the newer patterns of armor, even if they use a Traitor legion? I painted my loyalist Army as Night Lords, and as of late, have been running them under Caracharodon rules. Lore wise, I just claim that they have taken over a cut off forgeworld, and the surronding Sector, and have been using them to get access to the fancy new weapons.

I really want to get into the Horus Heresy, since I adore running giant blobs of Space Marines, which just isnt feasible. However, I also dont want to drop hundreds of dollars on FW or BaC, when I already have shovel fulls of Space Marines. What should I do here?

I know my bases lack constrast, but I like it that way.
I used to play Tau 10 years ago, and I couldn't understand people with extreme constrast between their mini armor and bases. The goal is to be discreet, not to be a walking flashy target. Same for my XIXth legion.

It's pretty meh. Not too bad, quality-wise, but just not very interesting. Feels like someone just picked a random year of the Great Crusade and asked themselves, "what were Ultras doing then?", then shrugged and said "whatever, let's roll with it". Took a deep breath and exacto knifed the shit out of them (I really liked the model but none of my lists involves a Chaplain, so I made him into a generic Centurion) cut off the mace on the right and then cut off the left hand holding the plasma pistol (so that it looked like a right bolter arm with the little piece of extending armor on the wirst). Not really, it gets what you need from point A to point B as long as no-one points a D-weapon at it. For the price though, in dollars and points, there's much better things to spend. Even without a D-weapon, many people can deal with AV14 through armourbane, so its unlikely to make its points back ever even factoring in its cargo-carrying capacity

Honestly Tommy Wiseau feels better for Corax to me. The fairness of his skin contrasted against how dark his hair is just works too well. His features aren't aquiline enough for The Emperor. I'm using them a lot. There are ofcourse better and more killy things to remove infantery, which is what Seekers shine at, but a unit of bolterdudes annihilating units is just cool.

If you want a unit of combi-weapons you go with veterans now, saves around 100 points and the sergant isn't prevented from having one as well.

Finished main assembly of that Destroyer Squad. Still have to cut more gouges, chips, and bullet-holes in the armour, and find enough Melta Bombs for everyone.

They're for an Alpha Legion force, but I intend to paint them with a raw gunmetal colour with bronze fittings. Lots of rust effect paint on the grey metal, lots of verdigris effect of the bronze, to indicate weathering from their proscribed weaponry.

The problem with the Mastadon is that it's designed for something that isn't in the game:

Driving up to forts, punching a hole in them and funneling guys inside.

If there was a mode that had a 4x10 table with the last 4 tiles being zone mortalis and the tiles right before it 700 points worth of fort and the other player had the mastadon it would be awesome.

Until then the closest thing you can do is a leviathan game with hammer and anvil and the mastadon player wins if they make it from A to B without going flat out.

Hugely excited to build a small Blackshields force to represent my homebrew Lost Legion. The "Outlanders" Wrought By War option represents them perfectly. Isn't the Salamander thing that it's not so much their skin just turning black, but that when it gets darker in response to radiation, it doesn't turn back? So a Salamander made from a white person who doesn't get exposed to radiation in amounts that would cause a tan, would remain white. And once he starts getting exposed, he wouldn't go straight to black, but get darker and darker until he's pitch black.

I've always wondered if Destroyer squad members are dark or even black due to all the exposure to radiation they go through.

I don't know what it is, but plenty of FW designs got things I don't like. MkII has fluted, interlocking plates when they should be rings placed end on end. MkIII helmet isn't as nice as the one GW did for the IW (lucky that I happen to have a few of them to cast some more for my MkIIIs). MkIV skipped leg day. I could be wrong, but I don't remember MkV having exposed cabling on the arms (though an easy fix with plastic arms) and the helmets feel a bit too Indomitus/Tyberos the Red Wake.

That's what the pre-FW MkII did as well with its abutted plates.

Fluted plates with rivets feels more like Hollywood medieval armour than old space suit. Those often used the Michelin Man style rings, just like the original MkII power armour.

But oldfagging aside, my main beef is that they make the legs look skinny. If the thighs at least were abutted with only the greaves flaring, it would look better, but as it is now, it just doesn't work for me.

Old MkII doesn't say the rings are welded to each other. It's possible there's a second set of rings inside the outer ones, positioned so that when moving the legs causes the outer rings to separate, the inner rings still offer protection to the open gaps. Or something.

Zone mortalis works for the corridors, but the outer hull or large inner spaces could probably just be played fairly normally. Maybe some vehicle limits

I know the Fists and Sons of Horus both had huge fleets, as did the Dark Angels, who also had one of their wings (Stormwing) specialising in boarding actions. The Death Guard were also noted for having a fleet with lots of strong ships even if they weren't all that many in number, and they as a legion excelled in zone mortalis battles

Sorry phone posting. The graviton is more anti armor but plasma is more anti infantry. Personally I never take plasma on dreads as there's better, more versatile options.

The land raider still isn't gonna help the support squad much. They're heavy blasts so you have to sit still before shooting something really close. Also no overwatch either.

I like it so far, the only clue we have for it is hinting that they may be te legion's tech-savants. One does not simply hijack a Mechanicum vessel.
The First never had much ties with Mars, and may have actually been disliked by them because they had equipment issued by Terawatt Clans (who probably had a lot of stuff Mars didn't) and they didn't like it so the legion had to take care of the tech themselves.
They are also described as "technologically capable" in Book 6, whatever that stands for.

I run 2-3 dreads with chain fists and kheres because it's so useful and cost effective. I've never been sold on the grav support though even though it sounds cool, there's better anti tank options imo. I run tank heavy lists usually
