But seriously, how do IW and DG play differently? Thier fluff and RoWs paint both as slow moving forces of firepower that emphasize artillery. Aside from taking much more phosphex and flamers as DG, what are some major differences in their play styles?

Meanwhile, Mortarion's armour is regular artificer plate with an Iron Halo, without even the FnP those Ultramarine Praetors can get.
But at least he isn't wearing Angron's stupid power armour.

Being powerful enough to easily defeat any other HQ character, named or otherwise, means people avoid him as much as possible unless they field a primarch. He doesn't do anything for your army unless you slay the warlord and he only buffs one squad. All this for 230 points.

MK III is too bulky. Having bits of armour on your wrist that don't allow you to fully articulate your hand would be hugely annoying as well.

MK IV and VI are too much like MK VII and I'm not painting another 50 of those.

Valid suggestions, but what I have in mind for marines is only very little platinum, mostly darker gray and black with patterns and pastel colours added sparingly, while metallics are completely subdued, all with purple showing in the highlighted parts.
The reasoning behind all this is to have Fulgrim as a literal Illuminator to be the focal point, wholly in whites and a little translucent purple, more ghostly than corporeal if you get my meaning.

The idea is the purple is showing through where the white parts are, with thin white highlights or glazing.
The black and gray... well, I'm not really fond of those colours on minis, so I'll try to include marble-like veins (as for now) in those areas. But, it's just a first shot, maybe I come up with more ideas on the way.

The red's just Khorne Red (appropriately), Agrax Earthshade wash, and a layer of Wazdakka. I'm still gonna hit it with some orange highlighting.

The blue is Vallejo Medium Blue (which I think translates to Macragge blue), a drakenhof nightshade wash, a layer of teclis blue, and then a light feathering of teclis blue mixed with white. You could probably use Russ grey for that last step.

Depends on the background, MkII/III, MkIV and MkV(I) are considered to be separate suits.

Yes if it's mixed of II/III and later marks, as the incompatibilities between those makes for reduced efficiency of the suit. IV and VI not so much as VI (and later VII) was made to be compatible with IV, but you can get away with it.

Check the Imperal Armour books on Badab War, you'll find everything there, it was basically a test bed for Horus Heresy.

Based on what the red short said, nobody at the GW cares all that much, so I'm going by a Winnipeg forum to get people together. A lot of BaC boxes were bought and people are apparently just sitting around waiting for someone to kick things up. It could become something great.
