For you, maybe. But there's others on here who might take it seriously. I don't want the forum to be filled with an influx of shitposters who will spread bad /hhg/ memes everywhere and then try and hack Laurie's E-mails in the HH version of Snowden. I like the chance to discuss canon with the man who oversees it, even if arguments often ensue.

He became BL's HH Editor because he started out as one of us. He ran a HH Fan-Forum, the Great Crusade in the dark era long before even the Sabretooth HH Card Game series when playing Heresy was converting Plastic Mk VII into Mk IV. He took petitions to GW for them to make Pre-Heresy Armour Marks to make it easier. Eventually he got noticed enough to be brought in-house as a fact-checker for the HH Series, and from there was promoted to series editor.

I've met him. He's the smartest bastard on the subject of the HH you could ever meet. However he's become a lot more antagonistic towards the fans as of recent. I get the feel that toeing the party line at GW has corrupted him, to use the best term I can think of.

Here's the forum he used to run. Most of the armies on here are converted from plastics. It's that old.

What do you mean?

The lead-up and the fight were good, at least a primarch died for once. Only Archamus jumping in is slippy at best.
Fulgrim vs. Ferrus is so far the best one, it's like from Greek tragedy/animu.

Didn't know that, it's a cool story I guess. I have to give it to him, his job as the HH head must be stressful with all the plotlines going on, and then he has to handle Kyme and Thorpe. Thorpe's also a pretty cool guy when it comes to lorefagging, he's been involved with one of the best projects out there (Inquisitor) and he did an amazing job with the overall story for the Dark Angels even if the execution is kind of lacking.

I don't know. Maybe being bullied for having a girl's name made him want to be an editor. Point is, I really shouldn't be on the Internet without two cups of coffee. Let's try talking about something else. Jetbikes.

Now if you were a Primarch of the smart(really all of them minus Angron and Curze who were too unstable to care), a pessimistic sort(Mort), or the type who loves going fast variety wouldn't you think "this war is going to cost too much. Better put the fancy jetbikes in storage". Did the demands of fighting in the Heresy, the Scouring, or the wars after the Heresy plus the lack of knowledge take away the jetbikes?

>>
>>49665771

He loved the old lore. Was worried that BL would simply walk right over the top of most of it, which helped convince him to accept the offer to work there.

Again, he was never this much of an apologist for GW in the past. I find myself rolling my eyes much of the time when reading his posts these days.

>>
>>49665710
It was the obvious reason. But he knew exactly WHY they were wrong because he had the official answers. Usually he wasn't allowed to give those answers, but when he was, the response he always got was, "Gav said everything is canon six years ago! Old lore supersedes new lore! You're not Alan Merrett so it can't be official!" And when knowing this stuff and keeping it all in line is your job, that kind of response really sucks.
>>
>>49665945
Feels weird. If he doesn't like the new stuff, I can't imagine him pushing it that hard. Feels almost like he has a chip on his shoulder towards the fandom when I read some of his posts.

I have to agree. Maybe it's what happens when you're elevated from the fandom, you start to look down on what you once were.

I want to base my army on the Lyssatra, or the Brethren of Thunder Iron Warriors alongside (Dark) Mechanicum allies.
What kind of units should I take? I'm in doubt between Ordo Reductor and Auxilia Myrmidax.
Also what "school" is Ironfire based on? I think it's on Stor-Bezask rather than Lyssatra (since some time ago there was talk on whether Idriss Krendl was a member or not).
Also fun fact: The root of the word "Lyssatra" is "Lyssa", the Greek goddess of rage, madness and rabies in animals or humans.

You're assuming a lot of intent on John French's part as well as the belief that an AL civil war was ever the intended outcome, which not even Abnett had ever said anything about.

Not to mention in the same afterword he mentions he has wanted to have Dorn kill someone Important for a long time

>as the belief that an AL civil war was ever the intended outcome
Deliverance Lost, Serpent Beneath, Seventh Serpent. All of them by different authors, all of them have to do with the twins plotting against each other. Tell me how a civil war wasn't the conclusion?
>>
>>49666493
>Can't you take both?
I can, and will in some future, but for a start I'll focus on one of these only. Myrmidax seem more fitting as they are (later) Obliterator Cult-like, and they serve as weaponmasters and destroyers rather than besiegers (not that one excludes the other), which is Lyssatra's thing too.
>>Thunder (Iron) Warriors.

I really have trouble differentiating Myrmidon Auxilia from regular Ordo Reductor.
The former are Dakkamancers and the latter focus on macro scale destruction and drown the enemy in shell, armoured vehicles and Storm Troops, and they mostly stayed loyal.
Hmmm...many parallels with the IVth.
I put too put the Centuria Ordinatus with them, but those are more like the Collegia Titanica, caretakers of an avatar of the Machine God, but one that forsakes some of its aspects and focuses all of its might into being a Titan-massed gun of fuck-all.

Dammit I wish they weren't spread so thinly...but I'm working on that.

They do, because they're a Cult, not something as big as the Cybernetica or even the smaller Reductor...who are also nomads, but mostly keep to themselves and honour pacts of loyalty and resupply with some Forgeworlds. I'm assuming Myrmidons are more like mercenaries, only they're attracted to conflicts, led by their Myrmayors, where they can put their dakka to good use...like Flash-Gitz, but killier. They even have the same sense if humour.
It involves you exploding.
Did you know Myrmeco is greek for Ant? After a plague a kingdom was left without people, so the king asked the gods to grant him subjects. From a log full of ants, they created the Myrmidons. Achilles' Myrmidons were ruthless soldiers famed to carry his orders to the letter.

Reeeeeeeeee. Supposedly they were also fierce CC combatants. And if genestealer cults were a thing, they'd call them too, as those things don't know fear.

IW= Mass warfare covers it much better...

>>49668582
The idea with the combi is to "cheapen" a little the squad, he doesn't have a flamer so he doesn't have to upgrade to a plasma gun and the combi is free. He will be in front and dying first. I should give him AA.
I was initially planning with the Vigilator, but the current consensus in the RG tactica thread of B&C is that Jump Infantry are both Infantry and Jump Pack Infantry (40k Rule Book p65), so they get Infiltrate via LA: Raven Guard. I don't know how valid this is, but after rereading it a few times, I wonder how I overlooked it. I loose Stealth and Scout, But I feel like Shrouded is still pretty good. In case this doesn't work I will definitely take a Vigilator with a power axe probably.

>>49669362
Great!
>>
>>49669547
They're not fierce combatants but fearless combatants, charging into enemies whilst the creeping barrage surrounds them
>>
>>49669649
Thats old rules. The sarge gets a special weapon now and thus a plasmagun. He can then get a combi for free(not that you woudl want a combi of the special weapons)
>>
So whats the point of Abaddon's Justaerin Warplate? It's just Cataphractii armour that doesn't have the no run rule, but since he's always with the Justaerin, he can never use this rule. Why even bother giving him unique armour when the effect is pretty small/lame and can be achieved with Tartaros armour with an iron halo?

>>49669774
You do realize that close range does not have to be the same as hand to hand combat, right? Running up to someone to shoot them in the face while headless of losses is easily described as "fierce."

"... instead of their flamer."

I see what you mean now though, take the combiplas over the flamer then upgrade the rest to plasmaguns and save 15 points. Put 10 of them towards AA so he can tank after the initial volley. There's no rules in operation order so I suppose it works.

>>
>>49671516
Sure. It's really not too difficult to apply all sorts of different sub-cultures to particular contingents, companies, or expedition fleets within a legion. Just because a single element within a legion has a unique culture, doesn't mean it's "unfluffy." The legions were huge and there was tons of non-standard practices and unit-specific heraldry and specialties.

An Abeyant is a name given to a general class of hovering conveyances into which the rider's augmentics and life support systems are directly connected though bionic linkage. No two Abeyants are alike, but the one thing they share is they're SHAFT-DRIVE.

Wait, but even before Tartaros and normal TDA were different the IF rule for storm shields had "standard Terminator armour" or "Cataphractii armour" and at the time it would have been kinda odd to exclude one type of TDA just because of astethics.

Sigismund coming out of the Caestus and shitting on an entire Rapier unit was pretty satisfying. But he was out in the open after and 20 wounds from bolters later he was charging another unit with one round left. Some random taxical mook got him.

Would it be weird to model Destroyers with a pistol in one hand, CCW in the other, and their second pistol holstered? I have a 5 man MkIV assault squad I'm considering tweaking the construction of to get some Destroyers.

I wouldn't be using that sexy underslung missile launcher though, which is my favourite thing about the original kit and the lack of which almost defeats the purpose, but meh.

A couple questions:

1) Is it considered fluff inaccurate to use 40k style rhinos? Do 30k rhinos have to be the old pattern?

GW rhinos are Mars pattern. Perfectly kosher for 30k.

>>49676434
1) Yes, but don't let it stop ya from playing. Just play with cool guys who are open to it, but don't expect to get by with it at events/ tournaments. If you're looking to get really into the Heresy, look into converting, or just buy the 30k Rhinos.

3) Dickbickies?

Can I put a squad of 5 terminators in a Dreadclaw? I'm trying to make a list that includes all of my spare shit not required for other lists.
>>
>>49676216

You've never read Khârn: Eater of Worlds have you?
>>
>>49676891
Fuck that's good.
>>
>>49677145
Oh, I have, just nothing in that picture jives with anything I've read in that book in any way.

I see some Night Lord fuck parading around with some Slaaneshi shithead, not Dreagher and his butch apothecary ladyfriend.

>also just as planned

The £ is supposed to drop to $1.20 USD in april, hopefully some good shit from FW comes out around then.
>>
>>49676422
thanks for the reply man. would you recommend maybe just getting recasts for upgrade kits to bash with plastic/FW resin? how do recast shoulder pads hold up for stuff like World Eaters? after playing an Imperial Fists/Iron Warriors game today my resolve to build another silver-based Iron Hands army is weakening.
>>
>>49677534
KA, what legions truly interest you?

And perhaps a better question, what sort of playstyle do you want?
>>
>>49677561
lots and lots of durable infantry (which is why Iron Hands and World Eaters appealed to me), something that can get into melee and chop a bitch or three (World Eaters/Blood Angels), has special units I can kitbash and I don't need to use their Primarchs (Gahlan Surlak/Castrmen Orth both would be cool conversion opportunities), an army that's easy to assembly line so I don't end up with a half painted army like most of the community (Iron Hands leadbelcher spray plus washes and highlights would get the best results)
>>
>>49677600
30k Blood Angels are pretty straightforward. Mostly red and black. Only downside to them is their lack of legion specifics and characters at the moment. That'll be fixed soon enough though.
>>
>>49677600
Hmmm....

Hmmmmmm.....

HMMMMMMMMM......

KA, based on your prerequisites, I'd say World Eaters, but I fear that you'll screw up painting them like your IF. Fortunately, Saint Duncan of Warhammer TV made an excellent video on them. You'd do well on watching it, as it's Duncan, so even a moron like myself could learn from his wisdom!

Though, another one you could do would be Sons of Horus. They too, are a melee legion and get bonus attacks for outnumbering their enemy, as well as +1BS for being within 12". Heck, if you got BaC or waited for the new box that's coming out, you could buy enough of FW's Chainaxe set and turn all the tacticals into Reavers or Veterans, which their RoW lets you run as troops. Plus, Saint Duncan has an excellent painting guide to them as well!
>>
>>49677658
honestly I've watched that tutorial and he makes it look so easy...I don't know how I could fuck that up unless I primed black instead of white. or my white priming is shit. hell, I could even have a friend airbrush the white on for me if I need it. I'm mostly worried about ALL THE CHAINAXES! but I could always try recasts or one of those off-brands.
>>
>>49677770
Chainaxes snap like fuckers, they kind of suck.

One thing I've done with some reasonable success is get >pic related, drill holes in the hand of the marine, and shove the fucker in. Seems a lot more stable, and looks pretty decent.
>>
>>49677813
it's not very World Eaters of them, but I was even thinking of gluing the axe on their hip like a combat blade.
>>
>>49677813
replacing the shaft with brass rod would probably be what I'd do if I wanted chainaxes
>>
So what's coming today from FW?
>>
>>49677813
I have a number of these, but for the next batch I was going to try just using the cataphractii terminator power axes, because they look to be a bit sturdier. Will let you all know how it turns out.

Checked the price of the new plastic Kharn, $48 bucks to deliver it to me from the GW store. Checked the price of the glorious resin Kharn....$48 bucks to deliver it to me. God bless the failing GBP. So I impulse bought it. Guess I'm doing World Eaters.
>>
>>49678459

Anything but yet more Iron Warriors is good to me.
>>
>>49678459
Kharn is such a good model. That chest plate paints itself.
>>
>>49678334
Oh, this is a GW model? It looks like it's from a completely different fantasy tt game entirely.
Colour me unimpressed 2bh, I was hoping we could rip the bandaid off and have Russ released this week.
>>
>>49678654
I'm sorry, RG Bro, but we will not be Brothers, as I've chosen Blood Angels. We can still be Fellow Warriors, however. Cheers!
>>
>>49675064
reavers have cool rules but are vastly overpriced compared to regular assault marines.
Soh legion rules are Balls.
still best legion.
>>
>>49678676
Das cool mane, keep us updated with your progress

BLACK RAGE'D
>>
>>49677600
Death Guard. Immune to Fear, automatically pass Pinning checks, get FNP against phosphex, can take rad grenades and have power scythes and their special units will soon both have plastic models you can kitbash into. Spray bodies white, guns black, pads green and you're done.

DA - Standards to be measured against
EC - Rapid efficiency, heraldic conquerors ("I for one support our new purple and gold overlords, just look at them")
IW - Protracted siege (offense and defense)
WS - Go fast
SW - MP
IF - Taking and holding (with large emphasis on "holding")
NL - Terrorism against an entrenched and belligerent, but wholly human, population
BA - Psychological warfare (as opposed to NL strict terrorism) against an entrenched, still wholly human, population
IH - Vehicular warfare, particularly tanks (later just technology in general)
WE - "That city/nation/world needs to completely die yesterday"
UM - Classical multi-theater strategic warfare, with non-combatants and other factors accounted for, along with keeping social order (which may not be entirely opposed to Imperial control) intact
DG - Harsh terrain
TS - Psykers
SoH - Rapid, aggressive, telegraphed brutality against enemy chain of command
WB - The type of psychological warfare paving the way for complete social reconstruction
Salamanders - Fire
RG - Victory with as few resources used as possible, utilized through means of infiltration and targeting highest echelons of enemy chain of command (in a manner that does not leave a populace vindictive or further resistant to Imperial integration)
AL - making absurd and obtuse plans with a stupid amount of factors involved, then carrying said plans out anyway without a hitch, just to prove how good they are
>>
>>49678980
Good summary.
>>
>>49677016
Try reading the rules you pleb.
>>
What is your opinion on Terminators?

Do you like them? why/why not
>>
>>49679030
I deepstrike, via orbital assault, mine with fists and plasma. Cataphractii armoured to survive whatever shoots at them.
>>
>>49679030
Recon Company is too good for my legion so I can't take them.
Else Cataphractii with multiple chainfists to open up boxes.
>>
>>49678980
>without a hitch
but... victory
