Wait, did the model drop already?

Starting these with troll Chaos rumors is old-hat.

Deathwatch Kill Team DID NOTHING WRONG

Salamander -- Team Leader
Lamenter
Black Dragon
Wolf Brother
Fire Hawk
Marine Malevolent
Astral Claws Blackshield
Doom Eagle
Flesh Tearer
Death Spectre
Minotaur

All lead by a Thousand S--- I mean, BLUHD REHVEN Librarian for the ultimate in did-nothing-wrong.
>>
First for someone stop me please

>>
>>49585897
The only problem I have with this is that the Wolf Brothers were lost before papa russ disappeared so its just not feasible
Otherwise I think all of those chapters existed in a fairly decent overlap
>>
It seems like Land Raiders are pretty easily countered though. Playing against Deathwing a few months ago and I took out two LR's with Lascannon devs and two multi-melta LandSpeeders. Or are those just really good counters I used?

That's true. Who might I replace him with?...

But the crashed thunderhawk doesn't come with a titan gun

I'm pretty sure there's an actual Deathwatch kill team in one of the books that has a Black Dragon and Flame Falcon in it used by a Radical Inquisitor to Solve Problems.

A lamenter and a flesh tearer hanging out would be some sad shit. The lamb can hold it together so much better and tries to help rip&tear, but is cursed to die horribly. Rip&tear admires the lamb, tries to be good like him but doesn't know how, eventually loses his grip and goes black rage when the lamanter gets killed. Even the doom eagle thinks this is dark.

Not a CSM player, but I recently realized that only the aspiring champion of a rubrick squad is a psyker (instead of a brotherhood of sorcerers or whatever), so that means all the ablative mooks are the mindless husks of walking armor. (Before, I thought they just sort of existed amorphously, and the squad was a brotherhood, and the chaos sorcerers were The Psykers of the legion).

Anyways, this realization had me open the CSM codex for the first time, and I noticed that rubricks are T4. How does this make sense? They cannot be "wounded" as I understand it. Being shot in the face is just as inconvenient as getting shot in the wrist, when it comes to armor integrity. And one such "wound" still instantly cripples the suit. What I mean is, it should be a hell of a lot more difficult (or easier, or SOMETHING) to kill a walking suit of power armor than it is to disable a flesh-and-blood man inside said suit of armor. I mean, a lascannon can blast a hole right through your middle, and you should just walk it off like a spooky skeleton in a classic horror movie or something. That said, I just realized that no modern movie does skeletons anymore. What the fuck?

Why is there no crunch reflecting their remarkable difference from other marines?
>>
>>49586502
Seconded, how about the generator instead?
>>
>>49586444
As the mostly clearly "good guys" of the setting, it'd take nothing less than a Salamander to willfully accept those teammates and trust onto them in battle.
>>
>>49586526

Don't forget that the Psyker is also one of the shittiest in the game, due to his using spells from the God of Psykers.
>>
>>49586526
Well, they do have a 4++. It's not much, and it doesn't really help, but it's something.
>>
So I just started playing 40k after painting some models for the last few months. I have both Blood Angels Codex and Angel's Blade. Because I have the models for it I am gonna try to build Death Company Strike Force in the Doomed Sons of Sanguinus formation (believe that's what it's called.) I need to have 1200 points for December for the next tourny for fun at my flgs.

So I was wondering how I could build a fun army out of that but also have it be good so I do have some sorta chance of winning? I have a Death Company Dreadnought, 10 Death Company Minis, and Astorath.

So set up a 2v2 Saturday with my Dark Angels and friend's Blood Angels against Nurgle CSM/Daemons and KDK. 1500pts per player.

Hoping to have a blast. We all agreed no fliers or Lord of Wars and are hoping for a fluffy game.

I just finished a Land Raider Crusader and am thinking about bringing a small representation of all three wings.

How's this sound in terms of fluffy but effective and friendly:

HQ:
Servo Harness Techmarine on a Bike with Power Axe

Elite:
Deathwing Command Squad with DW banner, apothecary, and Cyclone Missile launcher in a Landraider Crusader. Five Terminators.

Ravenwing Command Squad with Apothecary and RW banner. Three Bikers total.

Troops:
2 Six man Tacical Squads in TL Lascannon Razorbacks

Then the Dark Angels Conclave that buffs their interromancy (which will be much more friendly than some invisibility shit) consisting of:

ML2 Librarian on bike with force sword
ML2 Librarian in Terminator Armor with For Smiter and a Force Axe
Ezekiel, DA named librarian.

All the bikers will roll together while the term is and Eze hop in the Crusader.

A Greek Tragedy is where the protagonist meets an unhappy end due to his own failures or terrible choices, so I don't think this is really a Greek Tragedy.

It is, however, a tragedy.
>>
>>49586754
Well sure it FITS six, but a lone tac marine isn't as good as, say, a melta or plasma gun. You can drive the Razorbacks up to objectives, drop the squad + their special weapon on it, and they'll be able to do some damage to attackers while the Rbacks can zip around Lascannon'ing things.
>>
>>49586651
As far as I know they still have to take at least one power from the Discipline of Tzeentch because of MoT, and are still capped at ml1 so they still can't take another power from another discipline.

I haven't read Traitors Hate, but I doubt that they included a caveat to let you sub the mandatory gods' discipline spell for a heretic astartes spell.

But the 4++ has literally nothing to do with them being walking armor and everything about them being tzeench-favored.

Post lists? Obviously if we're posting kill teams, sure why not.

Raptors Tactics: 203(Because awkward equipment costs for scouts)

5-Man Scout Squad
Unnamed Specialist - Combi-Grav/cloak: Relentless
Unnamed Scrub - Bolter/cloak
Unnamed Scrub - Bolter/cloak
Unnamed Scrub - Bolter/cloak
Mantis - Heavy Bolter/cloak: Reaping Volley

5-man Sternguard Vet squad
Unnamed Scrub: Combi-Grav
Company Champion Solidus: Just a bolter and his trusty knife.
Unnamed Scrub
Unnamed Scrub
Veteran Rapture: Preferred Enemy

Company Champion Solidus is my kill-team leader. Normally he's my company champion(who follows around Captain Valentine in the first company), but for kill teams I'm just assuming that he wanted to join their squad purely for the sake of using their special ammo. Who would want to deny the resident knife-wielding "I kill terminators with a fucking knife" maniac?

So far I've been marking kill-counts on the board for all of my unnamed scrubs. Maybe someday they'll do something badass in the local KT scene and earn themselves some names. So far only Mantis has earned a name in the current tournament, because he consistently gets at least 8 kills a game.

Chaos Black's worked really well when the recommended tempuratures are available. But since my vehicles use a non-GW paint I'm careful to only use the same color black as the basecoat/primer.

For the lighter colored troops I actually use a grey Rustolium primer (specifically the primer, not just one of the paints). Because it's rugged and works in tempuratures up to 85 degrees. Thinking of switching to Krylon, though.
>>
>>49587278
I use Army Painter Black with really good results.
I also have humidity issues, the inside of my house is really good though so I mostly have to spray in my storage room next to an open window and still get a nice coat thanks to the AC.
>>
>>49586894
>>49587157
What happens? Family just moved to Florida, and I had no idea humidity made it so you can't prime
>>
>>49587365
You ever see those models covered in bumps? That. Anyone got any pictures?
>>
>>49587365
Okay, basically the primer in your spraycan will pick up tiny-ass water droplets in the air on its path to the model, and it then proceeds to fuckup your primer. If you prime when it's too humid outside, then the result will be that your model gets fuzzy and rough. It also won't hold paint at all.

The only way to redeem a model that has been wet-primer'd is to strip it.

To add on, if you strip it. YOU WILL LOSE DETAIL. Unless someone has some sort of method I haven't tried, any attempts to strip a model have made me lose detail on them. I've tried Simple Green, non-acetone nail remover, etc.

>>49587552
Purple Power can safely strip plastic without loss of detail. Unfortunately it also takes a LONG-ass time to work. If you want to strip metal models, just use straight up acetone.

Also, in a pinch, you can just use hand-soap and a toothbrush to strip models if you want to put some elbow grease into it.

Castrol super clean.

Strips paint off anything and does zero, and I mean literally zero, damage to the model, even if it's plastic. Haven't tried it with resin but I'm told it works just as well there too.

Soak models in it overnight or even for a couple days for best effect, the paint will basically peel right off. Just use gloves when handling the liquid or reaching into it to retrieve your models or it will burn you like acid if it stays on your skin for a length of time. Doesn't have harmful fumes though, at least not on any noticeable level if you aren't intentionally huffing it.

Same here Anon. I live in SW Florida, and if I'm lucky on the weekends at 1pm in the afternoon the humidity is low enough that I might be able to prime on the weekends. So many conditions that need to be met. Needless to say, I've got plenty of stuff that needs to be primed for my CSM. Around 50% humidity is my best shot for priming.

thanks

pic related is the model I got in the mail this morning, painting it now. I'm kind of disappointed with how the leather turned out so flat and uninteresting - what's the best way to highlight it and add detail?
>>
>>49587716
too much wash is your major problem
>>
>>49587716
Did you properly shake your washes before you applied them? It's looking a little too shiny.
>>
>>49587758

no, I didn't. I'm newish to painting, at least beyond the basic color+wash level to get painted models on the table. Should I reapply a foundation layer and wash it more lightly?
>>
A friend of mine wants me to start playing. He invited me to go with him as he played his Chaos Army at a local tournament a few weeks back. There were a few different armies but at every table there were always 2 players either playing Eldar and/or Tau. My friend lost every match and it seemed like everyone was mostly annoyed with the Eldar and Tau. Is there any point to playing this game because it seems like these two armies just steamroll everything?
>>
>>49587778
Not that anon but I would say just try to layer over the the bits that are suppose to be lighter but keep the recesses darker from the wash. It may look "good enough" after that.
>>
>>49587716
You have too much wash on your top-most layer. It's actually OKAY to have too much wash, so long as you only apply washes in thin coats(or spread over a large area). But I would highly recommend you get some layer paint and put it on top of the wash. Also it has to be a paint specifically designated as "layer".

Layer paints are somewhat transparent, so they show a little bit of the color underneath them. Heavy washing can be used in combination with thin layers to create a natural gradient from highlights to lowlights. But this is a fairly advanced technique that requires a good bit of practice, however it's not that difficult once you get a hang of the idea.
>>
>>49587781
It's more like your friend is playing the second worst army in the game versus the best army and second best army in the game.

Everyone being annoyed with Eldar and Tau is expected.

Yeah, I'll probably use Super Clean the next time I have to strip. These WIP guys had to get stripped twice because the GW Incubi Darkness spray FUCKED UP HARD and was all dusty and shit. I thought It was maybe just to humid or hot, so after stripping I found a decent day and got a repeat performance. Luckily the redshirt was a bro replaced the can even though I had used it all. Now I'm just hoping to salvage what I can from them. I have another squad of the old model Kabalites that I might just throw away because they were in the same batch and the only got uglier.
>>
>>49587781
Eldar and Tau are the most OP armies in the game. In fact, they are so OP that if you're not playing a toppest of top tier army, you should be immediately refusing games with anyone playing Taudar. They aren't going to be fun for you.
>>
>>49587827
Note: Most of their damage came from the first stripping which was 2 days in Simple Green. I tried the non-acetone nail polish soak for a half hour or so and that only emphasized the damage.
>>
>>49587821
Well I was considering Any of the Space Marines Chapters, but am leaning on Blood Angels or Space Wolves (just because I like the colours of both) or go with Imperal Guard.

I have gone to a few game days that are hosted at a local shop on Saturdays and even there I just see a bunch of Tau and Eldar players.
>>
>>49587827
> Redshirt replacing fucked up paint

Shiiet, your local redshirt's pretty nice then. I have fucking tourets, and so sometimes I'll just pick up a paint bottle and involuntarily spill it everywhere. I have on two seperate occasions bought paint from my local geedubs, and ended up spilling all of it within minutes from my spasms. The manager never offers to replace anything, and instead LOUDLY insists that I need to buy more.
>>
>>49587844
>Tau

I'm one of those guys who plays this game just because I love to paint minis. Out of all the people I play with I only know 1 player that bothers to paint his Tau army just because he loves their design and legit enjoys their lore. Everyone else I have met are just playing these dudes because they want to cheese it to win. I actually have started to refuse playing with people with a tau list and their armies aren't even given a damn primer.
>>

I don't think anyone would mind Tau half as much if GW put some effort into making them fit more neatly into the setting. I don't mind Eldar or Necrons even when they are bulldozing me, but Tau bother me because their noblebright goodguy aura is just sickeningly out of place in the universe.

If more attention was paid to the Greater Good being a lie, or the Ethereals mind controlling the empire, or fuck even if the Tau started losing or committing warcrimes or something, then they'd be fine with me.
>>
>>49587955
That does't trigger me. What triggers me are players who are just in it to win and don't even have the decency to strip their models of mold lines because their army is going straight onto Ebay as soon as the next OP codex drops.
>>
>>49588019
Same. Tau actually need to retroactively retcon themselves into having a higher population/territory because, iirc, there are Xenos empires even larger than theirs in the fluff.

The Tau just don't fit in 40k.
>>
>>49587971

>>
>>49588061

>>
>>49588019

No problem anon! Just remember, there are many successor chapters for all the first founding chapters, so you might find a color scheme you like more. However, for lore reasons, there are no Space Wolf successors. Which is a good thing you like their colors! Both armies are melee oriented, iirc.

It's a very valid argument, more so when you say that tau are somehow not top-tier. When you have such clear options in a game that are just straight up better than others, why bother taking the sub-optimal choice, especially in a competitive game? That's what tau are right now, a very competitive codex in the current edition of 40k that favors formations and MC's and tau have both of those that stomp the competition into the ground. For people who play some of the weaker codices, there is just no reason to play their army if the local meta favors tau, so now you've got an army you paid for in both time (if you painted them) and money that currently happens to be worthless. That's just not something anyone wants to deal with, so yes having tau be fun to play against is vital if you want your local gameshop to still have a 40k scene that isn't just broken bullshit.

You don't have to know what you're doing to be doomed by your own failures. The point of 'tragedy' isn't that something is sad, but that it is unavoidable due to some character trait or flaw that leads them inexorably to their own demise. It doesn't even have to be a negative trait, per se, but their fate is cemented by their own faults.

yeah that is probably wise

Back in 2007 or so I bought about 50 khorne berserkers and another 20-30 CSM on top of that. Although some were second hand and painted to tabletop, most of the berserkers were NIB at the time... fell out of the hobby a few years and of course when I got back into it berserkers didn't really captivate me like they did then.

Still have about 20 of them unpainted from all those years ago.

I should probably ebay most of my collection and keep just the bits and anything that relates my current or planned armies.

none of your troops are meched up and they are small squads on top of that. Unless you have a specific plan in mind for MSU (multiple small units) you should have fewer larger squads

you have two gundams in a 1500 point game

you are using CAD which is fine, but tau have some of the sweetest and most powerful sets of formations available to them

tau/10
>>
>>49588547
I like the variety and limit of 1 riptide right off the bat, those are more manageable when there's only 1, kind of like a Knight. Automatic brownie points for running with firewarriors; pathfinders for markerlights also makes this less obnoxious though you could probably do without the EMP grenades since the 1 nade per round of combat nerf makes giving the whole squad them a waste of points, maybe drop the broadsides for more hammerheads since their group bonus makes them actually better at aiming that str 10 railgun of theirs, the crisis team seems a little scatter-brained as their weapons look all over the place, maybe stick with just 2x plasma or fusion for mass low-ap shots. I've actually never seen anyone use the Stealth Cadre formation since the farsight bomb 2.0 basically dominates my area. TLDR I like it, it looks like it could give your opponent wiggle room to operate and counter you without it being a definitive win for either player.

>>
>>49589576
I specifically only chose to run 1 riptide because I've heard nothing but complaints regarding more than 1 in smaller games, are ghost keels really so bad?

The small infantry squads are there to make better use of markerlights, since none of them are networked.

That was my thought process in making this army, I'm open to suggestions if I'm wrong

I don't have the codex yet and 40k formations are a bit confusing to me. The only one I know for tau is farsight bomb and I don't want to do that.

I'm trying to make a close combat-oriented Deathwatch kill team and need a unifying theme to bring together the Black Templars, Carcharadons, and Flesh Tearers. I was thinking that, owing to the Carcharadons' "comefrom out of nowhere, RIP AND TEAR" nature" I could do an Armageddon theme, like a sudden incursion during the Second War. My main army is Steel Legion/Templars anyway so I'd love to create more Armageddon-themed models. Thoughts? Any chapters I should include?

ghost keels are not crazy unless you run them in the formation, but too many gundams of any variety will leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Small units aren't inherently wrong, but unless you are careful they can die really easily to pretty much anything.

If you are new to the hobby, I recommend starting with a smaller army than 1500 points. This is both to work your way up learning the rules and so you don't get overwhelmed trying to paint it all at once (If you are new to painting, or just want a refresher, look up "Duncan Rhodes" on youtube... the guy does excellent videos)

Formations are sort of an alternative to the detachments. You take certain models in combination and they get special rules.

A Battle Forged army consists entirely of formations and detachments. The combined arms detachment is just one choice of detachments - there are many more and each army usually has one or two that are unique to their faction.

Tau have a lot of different formations and detachments available, and while there is nothing wrong with the CAD, don't feel like it is your only option.

Overall welcome to the hobby. Tau gets a lot of hate but you don't have to be that kind of tau player that brings all crisis suits and gundams.

Hm alright, my friend had told me 1500 pts was a standard sized game so I thought I should shoot for that. Is 1k points better? I was also considering building necrons (army was about the same price) but I'm a little bummed that there isn't much you can do with painting them. If I cut the tau list to 1k points I should probably remove the mechs altogether except the crisis suits right? Ill probably add a drop ship and some piranhas then.

Thanks for being so helpful, do you mind if I post my revised list(s)?
>>
>>49589744
now we just need knights
>>
>>49589757
1500 is the stabdard but smaller games are playes often.

the thing as a beginner its better too start small. the game is easier too learn in small games and starting small will give you a feel for how the army plays and you'll have a better idea what army you want to end up running (or if you don't like the army). So you don't end up possibly investing a bunch of money in an army you might look.

also on the hobby side facing a big pile of grey plastic too be assembled and painted can be daunting and suck the fun out of it.
You'll likely find things more enjoyable and manageable if you only get a couple of kits at a time and get them finished before getting more.
>>
>>49589744
Can we maybe use the new DE style?
>>
>>49589757
1k or even 1500 can be fine, but while working towards it make sure to play some kill teams and small games along the way (kill team is just 200 points with very flexible list rules).

Necrons are only as boring as you want them to be, but if they don't excite you don't go for them. You will be spending a huge amount to time with your army so you should play what you like.
>>
>>49589757
1000k pts is a pretty good number to shoot for as games at that level end fairly quickly if time is not on your side or you just want to get a lot of games in a day in while also giving you some space to fill your list with a few nice toys along side your basic 1 HQ 2 TROOPS requirement the standard CAD has. For even faster games that help you learn the absolute basics of how to play 40k and your army, go for 500pts, it's pretty much just the basics that help you learn through repetition. Just remember the most important rule here is to not be a dick about anything, just be friendly and personable and you'll have plenty of folks willing to play with you.

I get the basic flow of a game and I can get through a turn smoothly if there aren't any special rules I haven't learned. I haven't won much though, my friends space wolves are too damn fast and have way too good of a save for the warriors to do much.

Ill head back to the drawing board and see what I can put together. I've been burning to play 40k for a few months so I set some money aside for an army, but I do like the idea of starting with small forces to determine who I like

How come I don't hear more about the Revenant Titan? In a world of knights (all types), this little beastie puts out 4 pie plates of S:D up to 60" and can move away 36" from anything that might threaten it. Durability? It has a 3++ save because fuck you, or a 4++ when you gotta go fast. Assuming something got in range of you somehow.

As the only dark eldar LoW, it's time for my boyz to step into the light. It only cost 90 pts to CAD this 900 pt model in. That's a lot of room for a real Deldar force or at least enough to say you won with deldar.

that comes with being a noob.

think of each loss as a learning moment, try to figure out why you lost and how you can play differently or add to your list to counteract that.
get some experience in and you'll start winning often.

as for necrons painting them is only limited by your imagination. You can add extra colours and decoartions, leave the silver for inside joints. Something that can be on crons nice is to go for pastel colours for a hi-tech ceramics look.

Been tinkering around with the Wulfen. Since my wulfen pack leader moonlights as a Blood Bowl player his weapon arm is magnetized and I've removed his power pack (which is retarded on Wulfens since they have no power armor anyway.) To show he still has an Auto Frag Launcher I've stuck it on his frost claw. Does it look less retarded than when it's on a power pack or is even worse?

And how does my old school wulfen look? I tried making a wulfen that's still not there yet by simply sticking his head and arms on a space marine torso and legs. I can't tell if it's a good idea or not.

>Superheavies needing melee D
I bet you've never really played with superheavies other than the bum-rush knights that everyone and their mom has nowadays, let alone an actual Apocalypse game ?

Titans sparring almost never happens in Apoc, because the knights get blown up before they cross the board, and the big guys are usually tailored to be ranged weapons platform and stay in the back. On top of that, this specific titan has a crazy mobility, you'll never catch him in melee.
As for small chaff trying to tie it in melee, that's why you have cheap anti-assault meatshields around your big guy, and even if that fails, that's why the Stomp rule exists (which incidentally can become S:D, so your statement is incorrect)
Melee D is the least thing the revenant needs when it's just so good at being a 4x ranged D pie plates delivery for the whole game.

Then where is the rest of FW armies?
After all, we included every flavor of space marines

1. Online Bitz sellers or use Warriors of Chaos models
2. Probably not but don't play CSM for viability, play them for fun
3. Sure
>>
>>49591161
>Where could I find space wolves heads or other bits that look properly Vikingish to stick onto my CSM models?
In your position I would honestly consider kitbashing your infantry from space wolf and CSM bits. More variety yet you dilute the yiff

>How would I make a mainly melee focused chaos army viable against something like Tau or IG?
Use the SW codex. CSM is blergh
>And lastly would you play with someone who proxies fleshhounds and with chaosified fenrisian wolf models?
sure
the important rules for proxies IMHO:
-roughly similar in size
-no possibility to confuse during game by having very similar units with different stats etc.

Isn't this exactly the driving force behind one of the Ciaphas Cain novels?

Testing out the GSC rules later today with a buddy of mine. Need to know how to play them and counter them, since they are most definitely showing up in tournaments.

Not all cybernetic plugs on a marine are related to the black carapace.
