Pathfinder General /pfg/

Friendly reminder to tell us what 3pp your game allows if you need character building help.

Has your party ever gone to one of the elemental planes?

No, but they did go to the Plane of Shadow to purify a school.

Not Pathfinder, but I was in a MAID game last week where our master is basically not!Odin and we are not!Valkyrie-maids. He sent us to tidy up the Elemental Plane of Dust and to slaughter an army of dust bunnies that were breeding so quickly they were threatening the human world.

Is an average of 21 damage vs AC 22 at 8th level decent for a monk? Unarmed, no magic items included, power attack already taken into account.
>>

21 damage per round? At level 8? No that's garbage and you should feel ashamed of yourself.

So for an Ecclesitheurge/Monk multiclass, how far should I dip in monk? Was thinking around 2 since the loss in CL can be patched with Magical Knack, but would any of those bonus feats besides Dodge benefit me much? Then again Evasion's pretty handy.

I want my primary domain to be Fire, but I'm pretty uncertain about what secondary to take. It doesn't matter all that much spell-wise since I can swap those whenever, so I'm thinking more about the abilities in this case. Maybe Feather for a Roc companion...

Any feat suggestions are also appreciated (figuring out whether to be more fist-focused or metamagic/whatever with spells so I'm open to whatever), no 3pp by the way.

>>49552731
My group started a campaign where the plan was to be planeswalkers using some kind of DeLorean-like plane travel device (expends a rare resource upon usage) Only played one session though before we separated for the school semester.

Also, I bought the Emerald Spire book and was reading through it- can anyone who's finished tell me if I would be alright just throwing out all the Fort Inevitable stuff?
>>
>>49553029
I forgot to mention, unless there's a good archetype that'd mesh well, should I go regular or Unchained Monk? Saves aren't as good but the BAB's better.

Malefex Check-In (Playtest Document Here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W3LrE8WyIxxYRr8d9dHsWioeUk_-HZaSMqVWRnzc9Fc/edit?usp=sharing

My apologies for my absence here folks. I'm still going to get to the latest set of feedback Soon(tm) - real life has been busy - but we're still looking for critique on the new malefactions, the two new knocks, the new archetype, and anything else that catches your eye.

Upcoming:

- Considering changing Bad Penny's second selection to upgrade to pennies equal to your Wis modifier + the original 1.
- Curling up in a corner to cry and pray for death I MEAN WRITING FAVORED CLASS BONUSES
- An anti-fey/demon themed archetype

Thank you for your patience.

You could dip for 2 level of sensei to get WIS to attack and inspire courage.
>>
>>49553079
Dragon Style and Dragon Ferocity.
>>
>>49553079
Why are you not using Flurry of Blows to make a 3rd attack? Why are you not spending a point of Ki to make a 4th attack? If you took Elbow Smash instead of Flying Kick I'd have to ask you why you did that, but at the least why are you not using your Elbow Smash to get a 5th attack?
>>
>>49553079
Things to consider:

>Magic items (Amulet of Mighty Fists, Monk's Robe, Belt of Giant Strength, etc.)
>Dragon Style+Ferocity
>Spending 1 ki to gain an additional attack on a flurry
>>
>>49553079
Linnorm Style for Wis to damage?
>>
>>49553163
>Why are you not using Flurry of Blows to make a 3rd attack?
I'm, see 10/10/5 with PA (-3), three attacks.
>Why are you not spending a point of Ki to make a 4th attack?
Didn't count the possible extra attack from spending ki because I only have 7 ki points, that's 7 extra attacks a day, that's not very reliable to take it into account.
>why are you not using your Elbow Smash to get a 5th attack?
I'm, already taken into account in the 21 damage per turn vs AC 22.

So, three year campaign may be coming to a head soon.

The setting has gotten far out of hand, but has taken the players from levels 5 to 16 and through a great deal of adventures. They managed to redeem the Kobold race, two of the PCs got enough mythic ranks to become gods, they saved the nation (against their will), and more.

The players are in what is called Goblin Town (Actually named Turgut's Seat), a literal city of the gods. It's leaders are six goblinoid deities, who forced their way to the top in stark defiance. They actually have one of each alignment for the entire left side of the chart (no chaotic ones), and all have the cooperation domain.

Essentially throughout the campaign what has been happening is these goblinoids have been gathering strength and deities to their side. These include the two PCs, a friend of theirs, the Drow pantheon, the Archfey (or at least part of it), another fey lord, several legions of devils, and other mortals turned deities. This has amounted to 46 total deities in the city.

The group consisting of Drow/Goblinoids/Fey/Kobolds/Illithids/Devils/Duegar/Troglodytes/Orcs/Giants are referred to as the Free People.

The plan is for the final confrontation is going to be seizing the means of deification, which is held by CG deities.

Honestly at this point I just don't know any more. I just can't wait for shouts of "Hark, the Elder Brain has arrived, we're saved." and a Lord of the Rings moment where instead of elves showing up it's Devils. Plus increasingly more confused CG gods about the shouts of "The Free People will not be silenced by their tyranny".

So is LE rag tag civilization invading CG outer plane a good way to end a campaign?
>>
>>49553151
I just might, though if I'm losing flurry of blows I'm not sure what I should use instead. The DM had me roll for stats, and while there's a few alright ones (17,16,12,12), I've got a pair of poor rolls too (7,9). I need to figure out the exact way I'm spreading those.

I took improved familiar, for a lyrakien azata. Which I'm quite pleased with so far.

But the tiny bitch has 20 cha, which gets me to thinking. Aside from the penalty for being tiny sized, there's really no reason she couldn't be intimidating the crap out of something each turn I can't find something more important for her to do.

A maiden's helm for +5 to intimidate is quite affordable, as is a circlet of persuasion.

What else can I do to make my enemies HEY LISTEN!!!!!!!!!!!?
>>
The new kineticist archetype is trash, it's already in the guide (I have a subscriber who shares with me kineticist content when it hits so I can include it in the guide), and it's an unfocused hodgepodge of features that doesn't feel like they belong to the same archetype.

So I am playing a very optimized diplomancer in my pathfinder game, and my GM (fairly new) is asking for advice on how best to balance the game given this character's out-of-combat skills.

Is there any advice you guys would give him? Should he nerf my character, adjust the challenges in the game, or what?
>>
>>49554127

You're just the party face, ain't nothing wrong with that.

Dat chest is unreal tho.
>>
>>49554127
See if you can start building hirelings and do charisma tests for commands. I also like when intimidate can be used in combat to frighten enemies.

I'm just surprised Ragathiel is described as her only son when she's reported to have hundreds of children, and his papa's a devil, which has a reputation in the lore.
>>
>>49554127
If you are the outlier of the game, then you are that guy, and should bring yourself down to reason on your own recognizance, not have the dm twist the game around to deal with you.

>>49554255

Let me try to be more clear.

I am the diplomancer, and I am asking on behalf of my DM how best to balance the game given the fact I can roll 50+ on diplomacy and knowledge checks at level 5.

I am willing to have my character nerfed if that is the DM's decision, I'm just asking - again, on his behalf - what solutions you all might employ to balance a game with such a character in it.

>>49554256
I used (CHA mod + CON mod) /2 for bust size, fyi
>>
>>49554323

>>
>>49554340

24 CHA
18 CON
>>
>>49554323
>I am willing to have my character nerfed if that is the DM's decision
And I'm telling you that you shouldn't need the DM to tell you not to break the game, you should know that on your own.
It's like someone needing to tell you not to be an asshole, you should already know not to be an asshole.
>>
>>49554323

>building your character to break the game over your glorious diplomatic dick
>trying to find a way not to make your GM unhappy

Why would you build your character to be so unbalanced when you knew your GM was new and inexperienced, in the first place?
>>
>>49554370

does being very good at diplomacy make the game "bad" or break it? Is there no way to have a fun game with a character who is good at this? What about the combat monsters who own combat? Does it apply to them, too?

I didn't know that he was inexperienced, and I didn't honestly think being good at diplomacy and knowledge checks would ruin anything. I still don't think they do, but I'm open to debate on the subject.

I'm also not trying to make my DM unhappy, I'm doing the opposite by asking for methods of balancing the game without necessarily nerfing me, if possible.
>>

Here's how the GM nerfs you.
>Very Important NPC
>He has issues with his mom and thus has a pathological fear of curvaceous women
There. You can still win your diplo to manipulate other aspects of the story but you don't win the game because of it; other party members have to intercede.
>>
>>49554376

He gave 'em here: >>49554360

Which gives us a +5 modifier, meaning E cups, meaning uncommonly large.
>>
>>49554443

ok, so just diversify the types of social interactions so that one character doesn't work for everything? Seems fair.

Maybe introducing an equally powerful villain/nemesis to counter her, as well?
>>
>>49554511
>Maybe introducing an equally powerful villain/nemesis to counter her, as well?

No, you need to introduce situations where simply talking good does not produce a positive outcome. The Archmage trying to argue wizardry will be better swayed by the caster than your DDiplomancer, same with a general or knight with the martial.

Your girl will still be a master of general conversation and swaying hearts and minds over to your side, but when it comes to specialized matters the others should find their expertise actually matters.
>>
>>49554400
What combat? You're only going to have combat encounters against mindless things, which sucks and would be very repetitive even if the DM did contrive it to be that way because mindless creatures don't vary in combat much, plotlines will be underwhelming or anticlimactic. With Diplomacy that high you could wake up to combat with assassins and still make it worthless if you got even a single turn to make ultra-rushed checks against super-hostile targets.
>>
>>49554539

As I understand the rules, even my character cannot move the disposition of an enemy that is "hostile" at the start of an encounter. She can move it from Unfriendly to Helpful, though, given time for the check.

I don't think my DM even intends to use these rules, though, and it is just assumed that in combat diplomacy does not work. I'm ok with this, she is not meant for battle just for courtly intrigue.
>>
>>49554538
50+ Diplomacy will have him succeeding in convincing people of anything even without being esteemed in their field. Doing otherwise just invalidates the concept of rolled Diplomacy based on investment.

Basically Diplomacy as a scaling stat is fucking stupid by the rules. I say the above as if invalidating Diplomacy would be a bad thing, it's actually not as long as you are actually upfront about it. Don't LET them pour ranks into Diplomacy if you houserule that only roleplaying matters and not their ranks.
>>
>>49554594

should the skill itself just be stricken from the game, then? why bother having it?
>>
So, I have a question for those with great knowledge of the bestiary.

GM has ruled that as an Oracle of Nature, the bonded mount revaluation can be anything "ridable" that is a Large sized creature. Basically, four legs and Large means it's good to go.

What is the best animal to use for combat (non mounted)?

>>
>>49554323
Ummm... how are you getting 50+ at level five?
I know you can get ~10 from the roll, 7 from stats, 3 from class skill, 5 from ranks. That still puts you at 25/50.
>>
>>49554615
Well obviously it should if you're not going to use it, or should be replaced, but some people will still prefer to use it even when it doesn't make sense all the time (or ever; a peasant literally cannot be stubborn unless he goes out and gains some levels, apparently). Personally I'd rather it be some fixed value sort of thing as long as it stays unscaling, rather than just drop it entirely.

Third is more towards RAWs, makiNG adjustments when he sees fit, which arent that often.

>The rules are intended to help you breathe life into your characters and the world they explore.
>While they are designed to make your game easy and exciting, you might find that some of them do not suit the style of play that your gaming group enjoys.
>Remember that these rules are yours. You can change them to fit your needs. Most Game Masters have a number of “house rules” that they use in their games.
>The Game Master and players should always discuss any rules changes to make sure that everyone understands how the game will be played. Although the Game Master is the final arbiter of the rules, with the exception of the rule that says you can make full-attacks with warhammers (which is immutable), the Pathfinder RPG is a shared experience, and all of the players should contribute their thoughts when the rules are in doubt.

Synthethist summoner was pretty high up there just due to massive hp pools, decent saves/defenses, resistances, and the eidolon healing spells/fast healing evolution combined with guerilla tactics. Having the fast healing and then picking up the sacrifice evolution to heal the party was also pretty whack, effectively letting us measure time to full-heal in minutes after each combat and let the cleric save his spells for mid-battle emergencies.

Pageant of the Peacock says nothing about Diplomacy

Seducer's Eyes may not work on all NPCs

Circlet of Persuasion and Enhanced Diplomacy do not stack, both being a competence bonus.

Celestial Obedience also says nothing about Diplomacy or CHA

Perfume kit gives a circumstance bonus, does not stack with Pageant of the Peacock if you are somehow getting bonuses from that.

Exotic Perfume is also a circumstance bonus, not stacking with regular Perfume of the Pageant of the Peacock.

Cultural Adaptation is also a circumstance bonus.

I'm a new DM when it comes to Pathfinder or anything similar, and I have a few questions going into helping players making their characters (their new to ttrpg).

-What are some recommended spells for a level 1 wizard for a first timer? I heard you could mess it up pretty bad in character creation.

-I have bought the core rulebook and I am planning on buying and adventure path. Is there any other book I really should get or are these two things more than enough for our first experience?

-What do you think is the best way to determine ability scores?

1) Grab random spells to see what the wizard likes to use. Grab a handful of mixed party utility (enlarge person), battle utility (grease/color spray), damage (magic missile), self utility (windy escape)

Also buy a spell pouch or whatever it is called for 25g. A lot of spells have random components needed to cast. If it doesn't list a gold value next to the item, you have it in the spell pouch.

2) Don't buy any other books. Use d20pfsrd.com to look at what you need.

3) Roll 4d6 drop the lowest is the best option for newcomers. You can try to explain point buy, but I've seen it be more of a hassle than a helpful tool for new players. Just remember, if you are buying a book, they are "balanced" around a 15 point buy. Roll 4d6 drop the lowest will likely bring in MUCH higher scores, allowing your power to destroy most of the books with ease, but that is a good thing since they are new. When they start learning, you can up the difficulty and bring in higher leveled monsters.

It's a delicate balance, since I do enjoy it when my character is very very good at a given thing (and consequently very poor at other things). But yes, I acknowledge the reality that it can make it hard for a DM to cope with - you either nerf the character and deny him fun, or you let him go nuts and pretty much undermine the game. Dude, you have no idea how badly I want to play that gestalt, it was a PbP campaign centered around being hot-shot heroes who would unite Avengers style to fight global threats, and my character was a legendary dragonslayer who was on his way to wiping out an entire Orc tribe after they destroyed his home city.

The DM fucking ghosted us a week into the campaign, I barely got a single post out before he just disappeared.

Embrace your powerful diplomancer, for I doubt you'll *ever* get a chance to play or construct something quite like it again.

it gets better, she uses the flame blade spell, maximized, and with vital strike to do ok-ish damage. It's not much, but when she uses improved feint she targets flatfooted touch AC and pretty much never misses anything. With her high AC, it might take her a long time to whittle a monster down, but she can do it given enough time since she is so hard to hit.

Basically the idea is she's trained in court duels, and can square off against single targets ok in long cinematic exchanges, but gets rapidly overwhelmed when she is swarmed by 2+ enemies at once.

Also just because you can sway a person one way or another doesn't necessarily mean they are going to help you. For instance, no matter how charming you are, you are very unlikely to talk a loyal knight into betraying his liege without a convincing argument.

I remember I was playing a character one time whose was well known for essentially being the Victorian British Nobleman in the Dark Continent and thus a massive entitled prick to the others outside the party. Our party sorcerer used Charm person to make himself seem like the characters best friend to have him hand over a shrine he was looting. That merely meant my character went from standoffish Brit who didn't like him to Patronizing Brit who treated him similar to a particularly clever child. Still carried off the shrine and didn't hand it over cause well it isn't mind control and even to best firend's the character was a condescending dick.

Although Sorcerer did get last laugh in end when he tricked me into handing it over to the Sorcerer's church.

I can't see that working well in a practical combat segment, but a cinematic courtly duel? I like it, especially since that's where dressing "casual" (given your obedience) makes a little more sense.

Meanwhile, the gestalt was specced for crowd control and single target elimination, though I took liberties with going for things that looked cool; energy blasts that let me fling foes 30 feet away with a thrust of my spear, Quick-Draw and Cornered Frenzy Strike to get the jump in any situation where my character was surrounded, Impaling Strike just so I could jam someone on the end of my weapon and fling them away like a Dark Souls boss, it was going to be great.

He even had extensive skills in tracking and knowledge, dude was supposed to be as good at hunting the foes as he was eliminating them. His only weakness was, of course, charisma and charisma-based abilities.

He didn't, partly because he thought her father would disapprove, but mostly because he has an image to uphold in the ring. Face can't be caught in the same company a Heel would keep, ya know?

I was thinking of running a game on rolld20.

Do you think players will bitch if I tell them that all creatures in my game will automatically get a new save every round for any harmful spell or effect afflicting them with a duration. If the monster succeeds on the save, it suppresses the effect of the spell or ability on itself.

>>
>>49557337

I want to be a gleaming knight of justice that can reliably gestalt with Paladin.

Mostly however I just want to play a character that isn't so much brains or willpower as he is sheer force of presence, which is further enhanced by his heavy armor and "fuck off" damage potential.

I know about the Warlord, but it just doesn't feel right, you know? I like damage, I like AC, I like being the tank.
>>
>>49557282
its about the thematics of the majority of the fights. I might not have worded it correctly but in theory this rule should hit pretty much everything that isn't a buff or instantaneous. This rule affects things that don't directly target the creature. For example even if you create a field of difficult terrain, that field doesn't affect the creature if it makes this weird extra save, this doesn't dispell the field. More extremely, this also works with an anti-magic field, making it immune to that field.

The reason for this strange rule is that half of the things they're expected to fight really can't be trivialized or or hard CCed for the game to work at all.

The best example I can give is something like a video game boss or an mmo where effects have diminishing returns and resistances reduce durations. The weird nerf rule is there because my other option is giving shit lots of immunities which sucks in its own awful way.

>>
>>49557400
>difficult terrain
Magically-created difficult terrain usually grants several throws (see Entangle), so it's unnecessary to grant Yet Another saving throw.

>immune to AMF
Exceedingly pointless, as the creature can typically just, you know, leave the area of the AMF. Additionally, if you aren't including enemies with primarily (Ex) abilities or, at least, a few useful ones specifically for dealing with the AMF-using party members, then you don't seem to have fully grasped the issue with running this system: it starts falling apart after 12th level or so, sometimes even earlier, and it is up to the GM (you, in this instance) to patch the leaky ship so it doesn't sink before the campaign ends.

Also, your players should be making knowledge checks to learn about the enemies they face, spellcraft checks to identify visible magical effects, and using detect magic to peek at all those christmas lights high-level NPC foes tend to have. A Knowledge (Nature) check might tell them that the well-armored knight leading the group they're fighting is humanoid, but it won't tell them that he's a barbarian wearing +3 Heavy Fortification half-plate and wielding a +2 Vorpal greatsword while using his Necklace of Fireballs ver.4 to chip the party down before diving into combat.

levels 1-forever: The enchantment school.

level 1:
Grease
Obscuring Mist
Color Spray
Cause fear
Charm person

level 2:
Fog cloud
Web
Hideous Laughter
Opressive boredom
Darkness
Touch of idiocy
Daze monster
Blindness
Command Undead
Ghoul Touch

3rd:
Magic circle
Sleep Storm
Ash Storm
Spiked pit
Heatstroke
Stinking Cloud
Technically Clairaudience/Clairvoyance
Daylight
Halt Undead
Ray of Exhaustion

4th:
Dimensional Anchor
Black Tentacles
Solid Fog
Technically Scrying
Ice Strom
Resilient Sphere
Enervation
Fear
Confusion

I don't want to keep going. My point is, if you'll look at the list, its a whole lof of the bullshit spells. I suspect the kind of stuff it helps mitigate as you go higher level is all the sort of stuff that is rated highly by some guides.
This also isn't a rule I'm sneaking on them or pulling out of nowhere it'll be right there in the recruitment ad. I appreciate your feedback as it has given me an idea of what to expect.

Most of it's coming from spells too, which is amusing since it means much of her natural charm is anything but, and anyone in a position of nobility could see that (in this case literally, she'll light up if you cast detect magic.)

So what's the verdict in the unchained fighter/cavalier? Has anyone used them it made characters using them?

Because I don't think it's a given that being exceptional at anything in the game necessarily breaks it if the DM works with it well.

+8 out of +50 is a majority.

What do you want the source of your damage to be?

You can take Buckler Bash. This lets you have the other hand free for a two-handed weapon.

You can use that two-handed weapon for Primal Fury maneuvers.
>>
>>49557872
>grease
literally move half speed and stop falling

>obscuring mist
that obscures everything, not just enemy vision

>color spray
unconscious creatures shouldn't get saving throws

>cause fear
literally ineffective vs 6+HD enemies

>charm person
grants +5 to saving throw when used in combat/threatening situations to the target, and requires an opposed charisma check for every single issued order

You have a funky concept of how these spells are meant to work, if you think that throwing in an extra saving throw every round for the monsters is anything but turn bloat. Your rule will do nothing except encourage any magic-using applicants to ask if they, the players, also benefit from this houserule.

Untyped from same source bucko.

It's quite clearly two different arms.

Not to mention, unless the maker is a moron, one would be a "left arm" and the other would be a "right arm", thus the sources are plenty different, including not being the same source.
>>
>>49558055
>literally move half speed and stop falling

Sure, but that means no charging, plus any attacks of opportunity made on someone acrobatics-ing through the area are made against them flat footed.

>that obscures everything, not just enemy vision
Sometimes you just want a smoke grenade. Fog cloud is a lot better, though, since it's not just right on top of yourself like a damn fool.
>>
>>49558253
>that means no charging
It's a 10ft square, if you can't figure out how to get an enemy off of that I don't know how to help you.

>fog cloud is a lot better
And yet is subject to the exact same dispersion conditions as obscuring mist, i.e. you're the fucking GM, so make a few of the fights take place in windy locations (like literally anywhere during spring or fall, or within 50 miles of any coast).

You don't need to grant saving throws that essentially give immunity on-success when something like the weather can negate the purpose of a spell.
One of my houserules? Grease doesn't work so well on porous surfaces, like dirt, pumice, or beaches, and dissipates after 1 round if there is heavy water flow (like torrential rain), or 1 minute if there is light water flow (like an afternoon storm in the mountains).
>>
>>49558055
I'm not entirely sure why you're adamant about something you think doesn't do much.

Also to respond to your points:

Moving half speed suchs.

Rule is magic, for that creature the mist is just not there.

Too bad

Sure, but it matters for the levels where you actually have that stupid spell

Yeah, seems a little redundant.

Anyway, its no extra work for me, rolling another save. I've been running this miserable system long enough that an extra save on some spells is really not going to slow down my encounter turns in the least.

If you'd prefer, I could just change the rule to no spells with a duration that aren't buff spells.

You are forgetting grease can also force people to make a reflex save or drop an item.
Oh big nasty mcguffin? I hope you don't drop it.
Metamagic wand? Magic Sword? ect.

>Build character, even do a quick combat run while we were waiting for players in a different game that some of the next games players were in
>Fiddle with it and update him when I do

>actually don't want to play any kind of martial character

What is everyone else playing?

What are the restrictions for character creation?

What would you rather do?

No idea, I think I was the only one apart from one dude who had to cancel on playing that actually announced his character to the DM.

AFAIK no third party stuff since he's new to DMing PF and our old DM was kind of a bitch and just didn't allow it, despite knowing fucking /everything/ about paizo stuff.

Probably be a full caster? I've never done it.
actually, now that I think about it I've never not run a gish. Ever. In /any/ system. What the fuck
>>
>>49558332
I don't understand that first line. I'm adamant that they don't do much, and that it's unnecessary to add the houserule mentioned earlier in the conversation.

>moving half speed sucks
Yes, it does. Give the enemies a chance by having a mage who can also cast grease, obscuring mist, and the like.

>for that creature the mist is just not there
It's not an illusion spell, it's a conjuration spell. What is your logic here?

>too bad
Yes, that is what you say to unconscious creatures. Are you also going to give them an extra saving throw vs CDG?

>that stupid spell
If the prepared caster is spending a spell slot on one single enemy that may or may not take them out of the fight for 1-4 rounds, use that time to charge the caster with an enemy. This isn't difficult.

>no duration spells
Sure, but that also takes out just about every conjuration, illusion, and enchantment spell. You might as well just remove the schools entirely, but at that pace why not just ban all tier-1-spell-list users?

>>49558372
By the time an enemy will appear holding something of sufficient attention to cast grease on it, they'll probably have a decent-enough reflex to overcome your 1st-level spell DC. nobody heightens grease, right?
>>
>>49558495
I should actually clarify.
By martial I actually mean "hits people with melee weapons and is expected to take a hit or two"

I could probably run with a ranged based dude, if I had to.
>>
>>49558596
Ranged magus, there's a great archetype for it

I'm still kind of apathetic when it comes to playing magus, though.

about how many rounds of bardic performance does one burn through in a day? I'm thinking of building a sensei monk, but they only get level+wis rds/day (vs 2+2*level+cha for bards)

>loses UMD
What a shame, but it does gain most important skill.
In what situations does one even use UMD? I can't actually think of a time off the top of my head a party has needed it
Otherwise, I kind of like it!
What spell(s) replaces shocking grasp as the go-to spell to cast, at least at early levels, then?

Snowball. Same damage dice and a stagger effect on top of it

Getting random wands and scrolls that no one in your party can normally use.

Sometimes, you might have to "fake it" for higher level treasure that requires class abilities.
