I remember somebody wanted a vigilante archetype that was LIKE the zealot, but instead of grabbing inquisitor stuff, it nabbed Oracle stuff. Well, I homebrewed it.

I probably need a better name for it though. Sicarius was just the catchiest name that came to mind.

>What non-standard races do you use instead of the core ones?
I'm currently running a homebrew silk road setting...

>Far North
-- The Arakh (homebrew), based on the Mongol Hordes, mostly human but hairier and burlier, right now just statted as half orcs
-- White elves (homebrew), arctic elves flavoured by Inuit culture, inspired by the Tiste Edur from Malazan, not sure how to stat yet
-- Motherfucking yeti

>Midlands
Variety of feudal Japanese and Romance of Three Kingdoms. The usual humans, elves, dwarves, etc.
-- Fetchlings/kayyal -- A military creation from spirit/shadow realm fuckery
-- Yes there are kitsune but they're rare and reclusive.

>The south
-- Wealthy drow empires in the swamps and rainforests. While they're still assholes they actually have a shaky relationship with the other humanoid clans
-- Vanara deep in the forests, very reclusive

>The far south
Englightenment Arabia type shit, noteworthy are Samsarans who pop up once in a while and are generally revered

Hey there, /pfg/

Can I get some more input and criticisms for my homebrew class? I'd gladly appreciate it.

Its an offense/support class based loosely on the Tactician and the Vitalist with a flavor of warlock.

His main draw is his ability to deal damage , debuff and deliver support buffs all in one turn.

>What non-standard races do you use instead of the core ones?

These are human offshoot races:

Gugir, which are what would occur if you made humans aquatic. large and blubbery like a manatee, grey skinned with many folds. Nearly no nose, and instead prehensile nostrils they can open and close. Large eyes with black irises, making them sun sensitive, and a second set of eyelids to close over them when underwater. No ears, just holes in the side of their head which are also closeable. On their arms are large fleshy flaps that are fairly rigid and used for movement in the water, and their feet are longer and flattened.

Shetou are taller and more lithe than humans, base humans describing them as "skeletal". Their originally developed and lived in caves. Their eyes are beady and also light sensitive. They have no lower jaw, instead a single massive tongue that hangs heavily downwards (making them prone to dehydration in hot climates). Their speaking patterns are warped due to an inability to use a lower jaw.
>>
>>49545257
Daomu Zhe are the most common of the human offshoots. From birth they begin developing scar tissue on the top of their skin, which builds up over time. The top of which calcifies into numerous hard plates covering the body. They can't sit still for too long because the plates will begin to grow together, this will happen if a Daomu is bed ridden. They also shed hair, teeth, and nails constantly, and are normally nearly bald except for hair coming out of their oversized ears (one of the few things that don't scar as badly). They have roughly the same physique as humans but are often perceived as shorter due to having a hunched look because of their plating giving them a bulbous back.

Xingxing are the last one. Take a human, make it stout and pot bellied (essentially giving a human the shape of an orangutan). Give a set of long muscular arms, each with a second set of elbows allowing for better movement (these joints are all double jointed with free movement). Their faces are much more ape like than normal humans, with large lips and flattened nose. Xingxing are often employed as engineers due to the fact their arms can easily reach into holes normal humans could not reach at all.
>>
>>49544731
Hobgoblins, goblins, gnolls, lizardfolk, fauns, githyanki, githzerai. Genasi and aasimar/tieflings see frequent usage too. Sometimes custom minotaur writeups and orc writeups as well.
>>
>>49544777

And for more weird stuff, im somewhat flexible.

Awakened animals and sapient golems have seen play, as have some intelligent undead, and outsiders, so long as they fit the setting (so no kitsune if I'm running a western Europe setting, and no valkyries in a silk road campaign) .

>Gnolls are fun when I need a race of complete assholes who laugh at other people's misery.
Some of the best fun I've had with gnolls have actually been with the 5e version. They have an ability that allows them to move and make a bite after downing a target, but I used it to accentuate their cruelty and love of attacking a weakened foe by having them just use their attack to savage whatever they dropped to trigger the ability. Scared the shit out of my players, too, the first time one of them got dropped, then immediately took two failed death saves from the free bite. He survived, but they definitely approached those fights more cautiously from then on.

But yeah, gnolls have always been a favorite of mine, regardless of edition.

Anyone got any ideas for archetypes or subsystems I could homebrew? I've already done a spontaneous Warpriest, a Charisma-based Inquisitor, an initiating Slayer, and am working on an Oracle-Vigilante hybrid class that might get a few more goodies.

Martial artist ranger archetype.
Ranger archetype that trades casting for full progression initiating.

A series of archetypes focused on making ability damage and restoration into a regularly accessible submeta.

Universally accessible eidolons.

Eidolon type build rules for familiars, improved familiars, and animal companions.

Druid or Ranger that can wildshape at-will, using the wizard's familiar list instead of the usual wildshape list.

I just want to be able to shapeshift into woodland critters whenever I want instead of that crappy X/day option.
>>
>>49545726
Im actually working on something similar to the third. Might take a note from Eidolons and build it around that, but less "conjured outsider" and more "unique horse"

Yeah, its pretty great. Good action scenes, a complicated lore and a decent worldbuilding and premise. Too much politics for some, too much absurdity for others. But still a fun ride.
>>

It had all these fun characters with good action, then it all slowed down and got dramatic and slow and political and I just couldn't bring myself to give a damn.

Having read the first book in preparation, they do an OK enough job of making things spooky, with some of it actually playing on player meta-knowledge. Of course, it can also turn into narm really easily, but I think we all knew that going in to this. My group is actually making characters to fit the theme for the most part, so I'm kinda hyped to run once we get our schedules figured out. I've yet to see if book 2 shits the bed or not, though.

Given it's Lamashtu, probably whatever the worst and/or most disgusting answer is.

many 1pp things are only found in 3pp here, including psionics.

and many things that HAVE been ported over were utterly butchered; from monks and fighters to ... uh... can we still call it butchered all those buffs they did to the full casters? I mean it's still butchery on balance right?

lot of feats became feat chains too, etc...

>>49548493

That sounds very prohibitive to adventuring, even if you're fucking things with small kids like wolves you're eventually going to reach critical mass by the end of the week, and that's assuming you *don't* have a litter.

I'm assuming you get knocked up and then insist every future encounter finishes inside; you aren't going to get pregnant, but it's the thought that counts.

Actually this is all confusing me, does anyone have a profile on the Paizo forums? Might have to ask how the Lamashtu obedience works.

Wait a second, hold up; the deific obedience has you torture a creature to death, rip out a bone and scar yourself with it. The demonic obedience is impregnation, however an alternative is killing a creature that hasn't been alive for more than a week...

... Are you telling me you could have a litter, butcher them over the course of a week, and get knocked up by the end of it and that all still works for Lamashtu? What the fuck.

Lamashtu doesn't WANT OR CARE about what you want of an adventuring life.

Bitch broodqueen wants you on your back, getting fucked by chaos spawn and tenatacle beast, for the simple purpose of spawning more and more of them, and the more mutated and fucked up the better.

Lamasthu doesn't like you or anyone.

Did you think she was the goddess of love and adventurers or something?

Lamashtu wants you dying of too many chestbursters.

That's all she cares about. Maximum monster spawns.
>>
>>49548571
Just breed gravity slimes inside you. It's a win-win.
>>
>>49548649
Yeah, more or less, Lamashtu is not something a player that's not deep into some nasty as fuck magical realm should be worshiping.

Lamashtu is like Dagonite cults: They're there to fuck hideous mutated monster babies into people too drugged up, unconscious, tied up or zealously brainwashed to care that they're going to be eaten from the inside out or raped pregnant with an elephant by their own newborns, until the party finds out what's been happening and glasses the fucking surface of what used to be that unholy village.

Worshipers of Lamashtu don't go hunting dragons. You want to play an evil follower of an evil god, follow Lord Megatron or something sensible that works with the travel and fighting stuff.
>>
Can you stack archetypes if they do the same thing to a skill?

Example, a lot of Paladin's archetypes have you getting a fuckton less smite evil uses per day. Can you pick up say Sacred Servant and Hospitaler?
>>
>>49548544
So you can use what, Pathfinder 1pp and then Dragon Magazine/Dragon Compendium content? That's hilarious.
>>
>>49548756
Nope, because fuck you. Even if two separate archetypes add skills you still can't stack them because they're both altering the same ability.
>>
>>49548756
You cannot stack archetypes that modify the same thing, even where it might be obvious what should happen if you do.
>>
>>49548756
Talk to your DM about making a house rule for it.

Maybe he'll let you build a sort of custom archetype of the two where you have to pick one or the other if it modifies the same class feature. If two alternate features modify the same thing, you have to choose one or the other, and elsewise you get the other skills. That way you don't end up getting 17 class features in one level due to stacking.

Alternatively, if an archetype does away with a class feature like spell-casting, and another modifies spell-casting, perhaps he'd let you stack those with the caveat that the trait that modifies spells just doesn't exist because you don't have spells to start with.
>>
>>49548783
>>49548785
You can stack them if they both alter it, you just can't stack if they both replace the same feature.
>>
>>49548783
>>49548785
>What exactly counts as altering a class feature for the purpose of stacking archetypes?

>In general, if a class feature grants multiple subfeatures, it’s OK to take two archetypes that only change two separate subfeatures. This includes two bard archetypes that alter or replace different bardic performances (even though bardic performance is technically a single class feature) or two fighter archetypes that replace the weapon training gained at different levels (sometimes referred to as “weapon training I, II, III, or IV”) even though those all fall under the class feature weapon training.
>However, if something alters the way the parent class feature works, such as a mime archetype that makes all bardic performances completely silent, with only visual components instead of auditory, you can’t take that archetype with an archetype that alters or replaces any of the sub-features.

Basically, use reason.

>>
>>49548842
Not by RAW you can't. If two archetypes touch the same feature in any way or form, they don't stack. This is why DSP had to add specific exception for class skills when all they really wanted was to make sure everyone has their discipline skills as class skills.
>>
>>49548741

Let's not forget Lamashtu doesn't even care if you *survive* the ritual. Get your insides ruptured by a demon horse? Too bad, you're clearly not strong enough to be a broodmother. Survive the encounter but it's clearly fucked up your bits? Well sorry little miss Molly, but you're just gonna have to carry on living to carry to term, even if your life up until the kids are viable is pure agony.

The only time you should be involved with Lamashtu is if it's part of your past; maybe you were a baby factory that got away, maybe you did some terrible shit as a midwife, maybe you were just raised into it and got away before you were fertile.

Are there any other evil gods that don't actually work for PC worship? I recall there was some demon lord that had a very complex "impale them on a stalactite" obedience.

So I'm hopefully joining a pathfinder group in about two weeks, problem is I've never played pathfinder before. I have some experience with D&D and the lore, I'm just not sure how much of it converts to pathfinder.
The Gm impressed the importance of backstory so I'm trying to do my research. So now some questions:
What books describe the setting/areas well as well as deities and such? the pastebin trove is pretty daunting I'll admit
Are Orcs inherently evil in pathfinder? I've heard the paladin VS orc baby trap a hundred times. is it up to GM more or less?

I'm planning on building a half orc bard with decent melee ability, am I on the right track or should I scrap it?
>>
>>49548937
Makes more sense to me. So if, for example, you have two archetypes that modify inspire courage, they don't stack.
>>
>>49548980
>Are Orcs inherently evil in pathfinder?

Technically no, practically yes, the vast majority of Orcs are hardcore rape monsters with an extra serving of rape.

That said, there are very rare occasions where you find an Orc that's neutral or even good, these ones often marry barbarian human women.
>>
>>49548955
>A PC can easily survive whatever monstrosity they give birth

Depends on the monster and depends on the PC. A level 15 Warder can take a minotaur and carry the kid to term like a champ, a level 1 Witch can not.
>>
>>49548988
Inspire courage is a sub feature.
If you have an archetype that alters inspire courage, you can still alter bardic performance with something else.

Half-Orcs, like humans, run the gamut.

Orcs are generally evil, but there are some(count 1 and he's a background character) that are Good.

Anon was complaining that being perma-knocked-up would interfere with adventuring.

WELL YES. YES IT WOULD. OF COURSE IT FUCKING WILL. You can't just wave that off with "but you're doing it wrong you should be strong enough to survive".

okay, the backstory I'm thinking of is something like this. (Half Orc melee bard btw)
>Human mother Orc Dad (Non rape baby)
>Papa Orc teaches PC or Mother Orc battle ballads before leaving or driven out of town
>PC grows up in a decent sized human settlement
>Uses bard skills to get by, make money and so on

>maybe Half Orcs get a little too pridefull and cause trouble, maybe riot.
>PC is kicked outta town like dad for causing trouble

Im trying to make a new character, one who's basicly faked his entire way through wizardhood using a spellbook (a book with loads of pages of scrolls) and seemingly casting cantrips whenever (probably a robe that lets you cast any cantrip at-will)

>Since we're all good friends, I've adjusted the campaign to not require much magic
>Fighter wants to have his character get magical training in secret
>Wants to put a few of his upcoming levels into Wizard
>Party are usually pretty open with each other

I'm okay with it, but how would you guys handle it?

>>
>>49551769

>>
>>49550854
It's never a better idea to use it unless you know your enemy's current HP is in a small range of your base damage. That's found as a Slayer talent and nothing else, isn't it?
>>
>>49551674

I'd be interested in this campaign, when do you run it?
>>
>>49551769
It's all about whether you can trust the players to handle it well. If you can, there's no reason not to let him do it. If there's someone in the group liable to sperg out or you're simply not sure, maybe say no - then again, if someone handles that badly, maybe you're better off without him.
>>
>>49551164
>Fast
>wait til 8th fucking level
Only for certain games. Potentially, getting to 8th level could still take like a year in real time with consistent weekly sessions if you're in a fast progression.

It's retarded anyway, you should be starting at 1d10 otherwise your special class feature is strictly worse than cheap weapons for a stupidly large range of levels.

>>
damage dice is irrelevant anyway
static bonuses only matter in this game
>>
>>49551958
The average of 1d6 is 3.5. With the feat, you're dealing 3 damage instead of 1d6.
>>
>>49552016
Except we can only deal with full numbers and the difference is kinda minimal that only surfaces with many many rolls
>>
>>49552038

>>49552061

>>
>>49552090
>take a -2 to attacks
>damage is always a static number, slightly below average
This is not a benefit.
>>
>>49552038
>>49552090
Damage rolls are one of the most common rolls in the game, and they very quickly make a difference. Over the course of 100 damage rolls, that is a loss of 50 damage assuming that your attacks only use one die for their damage; attacks due to size categories or that otherwise roll 2dX lose damage even faster. More importantly, it means that you're losing the potential for a more-damaging attack simply for the assurance that you're not rolling a 1; it's a failing and a punishment for literally no good reason. If the base ability was "average damage at no penalty" I could at least see it being worthwhile in a niche build, but the -2 penalty on-top of it makes it worthless.
>>

>>
>>49551935
Just that. Been thinking of statting out like 20 of them and releasing it here for no actual reason other than I've been enjoying statting them.

>>
Have you ever purposely gotten your character killed while doing actions that were 100% in-character because you realized your character did't mesh with the party and was becoming that guy?

I had to do it last week and I was sad to see my character die because of his zealotry, but it made sense.
>>
>>49552061
Exactly. They should have changed it to be 1/2 +1. So if you were normally rolling a d6 you'd just do a straight 4 damage instead of rolling. Or if you do 2d6 damage you just do 8 damage instead of rolling.

That would be an average increase of .5 damage per dice, which isn't terribly impressive (especially including the -2 penalty to hit) but at the same time it would prevent you from rolling less than that so it would be a most boost overall for the cost of 2 feats (one to get the ability and one to remove the -2 to hit).

That wouldn't be very impressive outside of specific builds designed to roll as many dice as possible, but at least it wouldn't be complete shit.

But as is? You're literally take a -2 on your attack rolls so you can reduce your average damage by -0.5 damage per dice.

Seriously, this might be one of the ten dumbest feats published in Pathfinder and that says something.
