That's actually a really good system for the most part. A lot of people who make these build a bear for 40(30)K end up making all their upgrades too cheap, so you end up with a combat monster that can beat abaddon for less than 200 points. This system actually looks like it even takes into account some of the balance issues that GW and Forgeworld themselves ignored (how pricey it should be to make a primarch a psyker, that kind of thing). I'm impressed.

I might say he overrated the AP values on weapons a little bit. 40 points to give a weapon AP2 seems high, even if you consider how buff a primarch is in combat.

Securing frontier worlds and subsequent colonial efforts, xenos megafauna extermination, death world ecosystems operations, far galactic recon, marksmanship, rapid response tactics.

Mil-spec green main colour, yellow trim. Numerals and heraldry rendered in white. Heraldry is an eagle's talon grasping three arrows.

I would love to model an army of these faggots using my BaC and some scattered forge world buys. I'd be ditching my plans to run AL, and setting aside an AL upgrade pack, as well as my BaC contemptor which has already been converted into something hydra-centric aesetically.

I haven't thought of an army list yet, but I would feel like I'm already asking a lot by playing a homebrew lost Legion (though I confess I prepared what little fluff I have for them with keeping things consistent with the nature of the setting and tone), I wouldn't want to use another Legion army list to proxy. I feel like I would do Blackshields.

With that fluff may as well run em as Raven Guard as the LA:RG is probably closest to a ranger-centric modus operandi.

Not going to lie man, the colours sound a little shit but I'm sure there are ways to make it work. Check out Mantis Warrior fluff to find images of citrus marines. Alternatively, instead of using yellow as the secondary colour, use white. Try to differentiate them from Salamanders as best you can.

Just from a technical standpoint, MkIV armour on one of the lost legions rubs me the wrong way. MkIV was introduced after their loss. But you could no doubt fluff your way around that.

RG are dope because they're operator as fuck and actually have some semblance of rational tactics in a batshit crazy setting. Instead of marching toward the enemy in azure blue or golden yellow armour, presenting themselves as prime targets despite being the crack spec-ops forces they are, RG actually use their noggins to Get Shit Done.

If you're going to be playing ZM games then RG inherently have a huge advantage, being able to see in the dark, infiltrate, and use the Mor Deythan's rending special rule to best effect.

The downside to RG is they visually appear pretty underwhelming compared to a really well-done colourful Legion like IF, WE, etc, and their Decapitation Strike RoW is a real glass hammer.

With the BA it's mostly a love of their colours, conversion kits, and iconography. Their lore is somewhat interesting as well, but it's a minor reason at best.
Salamanders again would be colour, their models are incredible, and I've never experienced a flamer heavy army. I really like their lore, being the biggest bros of all the legions. And now I've got the added benefit of pissing off Curzefag. Salamanders also give me an excuse to go for an all Mk III army instead of my usual Mk IV. Not a huge fan of other armour marks.
Raven Guard appeal to me because, as yous aid, they're operator as fuck and I've never painted a black army before.

I think the thing that keeps me away from MkII would be the layering. It's present on the MkIII but the solid plates of the front armour are sexy as fuck. And I have no idea how to properly build an SoH army. I've tried so many times and I've never been satisfied with them. That and I can never seem to find a colour scheme that I don't hate after 20 minutes of looking at it.

Ghouls are always a good starting point. They can be mixed with DV cultists relatively easily if you're handy with a razor saw. Replace some hands with chainswords and throw some creepy masks on them from Dark Eldar or the Flagellants kit and you're all set.

The Tzaangors from Silver Tower are cheap as chips on eBay. you could do a pretty rad Tzeentch themed cult army with them as Ogryn brute squads. Suitably 40ked up of course.

If you want the raided out look you can grab blood reavers cheap too. Add some greenstuff tubes and crap to them and you'd be all set.

Horus Heresy Legions List is generally, from what I constantly see and hear, viewed as a subpar list to use against Wh40k codex's as the way legions are stated and points are spent are far more "eggs in one basket" while 40k can MSU and grind every efficiency out of their lists.

But at the same time my local World Eaters player has been rocking my local game stores with only Eldar or Grav Spam actually stopping him in his tracks because his tacticals are insanely good for their cost, FNP is everywhere and Spartans are insanely sturdy and can repair the odd grav immobilization here and there.

In the same vein my local Iron Hands player has been suffering immensely due to paying a lot of points for abilities that 40k armies for the most part don't care about.

What legions do you guys see as actually being solid in 40k games? Not just baby seal clubbing orks but actually doing well.
