why do so many idiots say that Russ ignored the Emperor to listen to Horus?

Russ never received the order to capture Magnus. Horus changed the order before it ever got to Russ.

Russ was still an asshole, but why do so many people act like he received 2 orders, and decided "Nah, I'mma smoke that nigga"?

This is better than braided werewolves wearing black t-shirts and having frag launchers over their unplugged power packs. I doubt there is a problem with some SW turning into werewolves, when it is already established so, kinda like those Raven monstruosities. Moar rage, moar fury yadda yadda. I doubt they are as tough or as strong as Gal Vorbak OGs, but that's just an opinion.

>>49565440
>>49565579
>why do so many idiots say that Russ ignored the Emperor to listen to Horus?
Emps ordered a thing, Horus then said orders were X and backed his claims with his Emperor-given Warmaster authority. Russ was decieved and played like a fiddle, but the loyal wolf acted the way he was supposed to act, without necessarily meaning he agreed with Horus over the Emperor.
Just as planned :^)

Russ was more "muh honor" than Valdor; so they might have disagreed on that.

Valdor signed off on the assassination mission on Horus; while Russ refused Malcador's suggestion to bomb Cthonia

By the end of the Heresy, some element of every single legion fought both alongside, and against, some element of every single other legion. So yes.

>>
>>49566512
IS this stone gauntlet? I assume so as you've not mentioned otherwise and you don't have teleporters out the arse so it cant be hammerfell. Looks pretty good, if a tad light on bodies. Fuck the AA and power fist on the sarges, just take a power sword, it's better for sergeants in my opinion, unless you can get AP2 on initiative.

Maybe consider a cortus instead of a prime contemptor? Save a couple points for some more goodies for your sicarans, perhaps a pintly combi-bolter/heavy bolter? Just means the main gun is less likely to get shot off.

>>
>>49566593
>>49566618

It mentions in the novel as well that there have been many other assassin operations against Horus before, so presumably assassins would of played a pretty big role in the unseen battles during the heresy. Perfect for book 6 if you ask me, makes you wonder why they didn't include them.
>>
>>49566651
Oh shit didn't realise, thought teleporter transponders were just special IF gear. In that case, why not give everyone you can a teleporter transponder as that's the whole point of the rite? and not to mention all those vehicles are going to be starting in reserve, you'll start the game with only two squads of tac marines on the board. If you come up against artillery spamming IW you'll be fucked

Which is exactly what those bitter bastards want
>>
>>49566717
>Oh shit didn't realise, thought teleporter transponders were just special IF gear.
they are but you cant take them with stone gauntlet

i dont think hes running a RoW
>>
>>49566656
The entirety of book 6 is essentially FW saying "there was a bunch of undocumented shit during the heresy, anything happened"
>>
>>49566736
Fair enough

If he isn't running a rite, that then poses the question of why even take a fucking praetor? yes hes an alright beatstick, but why not just take a legion champion or a primus medicae or something, the Praetor just seems like a massive waste of points.
>>
>>49566751
The fact that they haven't made assassins and have voiced no intention to proves they don't think they're important
>>
>>49566665
Assassination attempts by small numbers of individuals aren't really battles though. And correct me if I'm wrong but most scenarios in FW books are quite large engagements

Maybe play that using Killteam or something
>>
>>49566777
>nurglite trips

Fair enough, I just feel like it would be a nice little addition, even if they just said something like "heres how to use the assassins dataslate in 30k"

>>49566798

Why Iron Halo with cataphractii?
>>
>>49567169
Terminator armour doesn't automatically mean catapractii. Though why not a stormshield instead of an Iron Halo is indeed curious

Literally had 10 points free that couldn't go anywhere else.

Am adjusting the list again, though any real changes I make of more than 20-30 points are either stripping units down to bare bones or I'm removing units and trying to plug the gap.

I think I'm close, but my recent inexperience of 7e is what's causing me to waste the last few upgrade points since I've not played since 5th and I'm going off of memory and Battlescribe
>>
>>49567317
no it doesnt.

it only does that in 40k.
>>
>>49565440
In older fluff Russ was stood by the Emperor's side when Magnus broke the webway gate, so it seemed reasonable to assume the Emperor gave Russ orders while he was stood right next to him. I assume if newer fluff has Russ elsewhere at this point then this doesn't apply.
>>
What's a good colour for an Ultrasmurf successor chapter? It's focused on battles in space and boarding action. So something navy-ish would be interesting.

I was thinking of Japanese Navy Green or a dark blue.

>>49567628
Then it's a Blackshield rather than a smurf successor.
>>
>>49567409
There's already a chapter like that.

Marines Errant, iirc.
>>
>>49567628
at no point did he mention blackshields, and specifically states successor chapter. Being contrarian is fun and all but maybe try and back it up with actual facts. The 40k general is pretty much a containment thread, lets keep it that way.

So what's coming out from FW tomorrow? I've got money on Imperial Armour: Fires of Cyraxus since it'll be most likely for sale at the Warhammer Europe Open Day. Any other guesses?
>>
>>49567771

Dain Ironfoot. They're not going to release anything big, that'll be announced at the FW Open Day on Saturday.
>>
>>49567551
>>49567672
>>49567719

Rivet counter autists upset at a perfectly acceptable army option with a strong presence in prior and new fluff.

You can have equally autistic homebrew stuff in Legion lists. Just because FW decided to point out homebrew possibilities for Blackshields doesn't make them the only culprits.

>>49567409
>>49567675

This is also true. It wasn't until the Scouring that you see full-fledged "Successor" chapters showing up.

That said, the Smurfs and many other Legions already had distinct formations with their own colour variants and divergent tactics. Anon already listed the Marines Errant (who are pretty much what you're looking for anyway), and the FW HH books have also listed a few other future Successors (the ones obsessed with rad and the ones obsessed with vehicle swarms).
>>
>>49567771
Have those legion-specific weapons and catapractii shoulderpads been released yet ? That should also happen at some point
>>
>>49567814
Weapons, no. The shoulder pads for some factions are out.
>>
>>49567786

Autistic homebrews belong in the trash as they deserve. I was just pointing out that Blackshields don't have a monopoly on them.

I still remember the vocal minority of rivet counters in /HHG/'s early days who got bootyblasted over all the people wanting to play loyalists from Traitor Legions. See >>49567899 for example.

the lengths you will go to trying to support a really basic 40k shitpost are pretty sad bro, maybe its time you went to the 40k thread as well? or are you just hanging out here waiting for fem primachs or other such cuck related trash, wouldn't surprise me at all coming from someone who defends "successor" posts in a 30k general let alone one about watered down homebrew smurfs.
>>
>>49567899
Agreed...but I must admit Thunder Warrior anon amuses me and Blackshields could serve for him. But he kind of wanted to do Codex:TW or something?
>>49567922
Fair point, very true. Say, where do you find those Ye Olde pics? I absolutely love them.
>>
>>49567409
Dark blue-gray is what I think of when I hear "naval." Or the Russian uniforms with thin horizontal blue and white stripes =p.

Just keep in mind that successor chapters don't happen until after the Heresy is over. Heck, after the Scouring. For now all you get are chapters within a legion. Those could possibly have different colors - the norm would be only a few panels in a different color though.

Before the Siege of Terra we need the following:

Martian Civil War (Mechanicum, knights, good time for a titan)
Signus Cluster (Blood Angels, daemons)
Diamat? Thramas? Imperium Secundus? (Pick one to introduce the Dark Angels)
Kalium Gate or Catallus Rift (White Scars)
Alaxxes (Space Wolves)
Tallarn (Imperial Army, armored lists)
Anvilus (Sons of Horus?)
Solar System (last chance for new human factions, like the Saturnine somethings)

So, what distinct advantages did mkIV plate have over mkII? I know mkIII was a heavy-as-shit development designed for Zones Mortalis, mkV was strictly worse than the other marks by necessity, and mkVI was stealthy and had better optical systems. But so far as I can tell, mkIV was just a newer version of mkII, and just kind of eventually replaced it.
>>
>>49570593
mark 4 had a helmet that was moveable
>>
>>49570593
Mk4 was made with all of the advanced tech and materials the Imperium had at its height. It was dubbed "Maximus" because it was believed to be the best of the best. Horus made sure all of his mooks got the most of it.
>>
>>49570593
-(more) movable helmet
-energy cables for the leg armour no longer exposed
-larger inflexable armour casings with flexible joints instead of separate abutting plates, easier to produce and maintain
-better protection and lower weight
-energy cables for chest and arms relocated to exterior to reduce heat buildup
-vastly improved neural interface
>>
>>49570593

Though Mk. IV "Maximus" did have some improvements over prior marks as this Anon >>49570624 mentions, it was adopted more out of logistical concerns than Mk. II becoming noticeably obsolete.

The main advantage of the Mk. IV technically speaking was its excellent, if difficult to master, electronics suite, which included comms and suit sensors. Its protection was slightly better than Mk. II, and mostly had to do with covering power cables, but it had inferior range of motion due to the use of large armour plates instead of smaller, segmented ones.

The main reason it was adopted, however, was because the Mk. II suits were aging, and the Imperium needed a mark that could be manufactured in huge numbers, and which was easier to repair in the field (Mk. II's segmented plates were difficult to replace outside of dedicated forges). The later Mk. V took this philosophy to the extreme, at the cost of the sensor suite and comfort.

>>49570603

Only the early model Mk. II helmets were bolted onto the torso.

I'm scared. Now combine it with the raven's ability to hold grudges and communicate.
How about something like this?
>The original strain of the Scantid grew to a length no greater than 15 cm and was a common inhabitant of the desert regions of Korhal IV. It repelled predators with a mild venom which caused a mild rash and itching.
>After Korhal was ravaged by nuclear weapons in the surprise attack by the Terran Confederacy, nothing was left alive on the surface of the planet, but Scantids survived in underground communal burrows. The massive radiation changed the species forever.
>The mutated scantid is much larger; its claws are capable of ripping a human in half and its sting is filled with extremely lethal poison.
>THEIR COMMUNAL INSCTINTS HAVE SURVIVED

>>49570593
MkII was simply old and too complex, requiring lots of manteinance. The bell-bottoms it has are made of microscopic components IIRC. The Maximus armour was meant to be state of the art powered plate meant to replace the ageing MkII, it was simply better in all aspects. As for MkIII, that still served a specialist role

MkII and Cataphractii afford you the best protection in the Imperium, stop listening to all those nay-sayers! I remember The Early Crusade days back when all we had was MkII and MkIII! Cataphractii wasn't even invented back then, and that was how we liked it! Phobos bolters, a bayonet, a knife, and your Crusade or Iron armor was all you needed. Now it's all about that fancy MkIV and Tigrus bolters! Nowhere near as good as the old gear, it's why I made sure my Grand Battalion kept the good stuff. Like when the Land Raider Proteus was the only pattern! The invention of the Phobos was the only good thing to come alongside good 'ol Cataphractii! I fought alongside the Emperor I did!

Yeah, transports are a big issue in my army I've left unaddressed. The plan was to huck either the Despoiler Squad or the Butchers in with the Praetor in the Spartan, and just rely on everyone else being able to footslog under the covering fire of my Dread and Heavy Support. The guy i'm facing doesn't run a whole hell of a lot of armour, so hopefully my Spartan can deal with what he decides to dish out.

>>49574189
Good luck, my dude. Make Dorn proud.
My Spartan is being proxied by my Land Raider Crusader while I figure out how I'm going to assemble the damned thing.

Drybrush with Rub n Buff Pewter, two to four very thin washes of 50:50 Tamiya Clear Blue and Clear Red mixed into a purple, airbrush layer of Auto Air Transparent Blue. Add lightning with administration grey highlighted with white scar. Bronze can vary depending on if you like them in gold, bronze or almost gunmetal; I like Runelord Brass + Agrax Earthshade, if you want real goldy gold then Balthazar/Agrax/Gehenna's/Runefang Steel is what I use for Ultramarines. Also had a lot of success with Leadbelcher + multiple layers of Agrax and Sepia, but it's a pain in the ass on the tiny little rims of MkIV. If you're doing MKIII, knock yourself out.

>>49574302
so many questions: which guide are you following for those world eaters? love the dark lines, really stand out...but I'm afraid of fucking up white. also are those red butchers recast? how's the quality compared to the real thing?
>>
>>49574349
God willing.
Actually, from the conversation I had with the dude I'm playing against, it seems like his army is a Cultist/Word Bearers allied force, so I think I should be good.

>>49574363
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUZGJg2oems

That being said, I haven't yet found a method of doing the blue that I'm happy with yet, and I have about 3 or 4 different shades scattered across my army. White's not as hard as you'd think; Duncan's tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veLfxJmIzyw) is also pretty good imo.
Red butchers are indeed recast, and overall I'm really impressed with the quality; there's no gaps or bubbling to be found, and the mold lines are almost nonexistent. Power axes are kind of thin and frail looking, though.
>>
Considering dropping terminators for more dreadnoughts on the board - even though Imp Fists get the whole tellyport nonsense, I don't think I'm very comfortable with using Termies

>>
>>49574396
damn, the power axes were my concern. I have this huge fear or models breaking in transit or play, which is why I always stuck to thicker marine armies instead of Dark Eldar and other spiky bits. thanks for the inspiration though, everyone keeps telling me to avoid painting white because I'm a novice painter but I really love the pre-heresy World Eaters look. plus that new plastic Kharn model turns me on.

Do you think the Emperor could ever forgive any of his remaining traitor sons?

I like to imagine that if he were to come back and learn exactly what happened, he would at the very least pity Magnus and feel some measure of guilt if he were to kill him.
>>
>>49574810
Emps genuinely loved all of his sons, even the ones who never felt the same towards him. His pride and arrogance were always an issue with his relationship to many of them, especially in the lead-up to the HH, but I do think that if he ever returns he'll probably be more saddened than angered by the traitor primarchs' current state - much as he was when he finally chose to destroy Horus.

I don't think he'd try to reconcile with any of them, however. Not even if he learned how some, such as Magnus, only fell to Chaos because they were fucked over by mistake.

It is relatively expensive yes, especially the resin stuff Forge World makes.
However, this is a very large model, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd be looking at 10+ pounds of resin there.

It's on par with a Warlord in terms of size, just not as intricate in construction, which means it's slightly cheaper.
>>

Don't be like that. It's perfectly reasonable for people to ask for legion-specific advice here, the legion tactica page doesn't tell you everything (and for salamanders it mostly tells you how poor the legion is compared to others).

What? Their special units are great. You want to run a generic Rite of War, though, because their suck. Orbital Assault helps get around their low mobility.
