So, I need help. I'm an unoriginal bastard and painting my Hassassin up in Assassin's Creed colours, but I'm not sure what to do with my Asawira and other heavy infantry. The white robes and such works for the Hassassin miniatures, but I'm not sure how to paint up more heavily armoured figures to fit the theme.
>>
>>49418556
How about an off-white, sandy colored armor with umber detailing?
>>
Tell me examples of Lt Options who are specialists, not counting Chain of Command models who become Lt or people who were nominated Lt in the middle of the game.

There are a bunch, but off the top of my head:

So I'm building a small Aleph force for some 150 point learning games with some other new players, does this sound alright? I'll be playing against either Qapu oriented Haqqislam, or Onyx Contact oriented CA.

Other things I have to work with, is Ajax, Penthesila, Support Pack, Sync Deva unit, Dasyus, Naga, Asura, Posthumans, Teucer and an Ekdromos
>>
>>49418556
Just have them be their normal Haqqislam colors. Asawira hate being lumped in with silly assassins, and are just there because they need to watch the watchmen.
>>
>>49419372
I think Thorak are better for new players, ODD is pretty brutal at low point levels. Just proxy for them.
>>
>>49419415

I was considering that, but I worried it might conflict with the rest of the army. That little fluff relationship between the two did rather amuse me though.

>>49418657

Now that could actually look pretty awesome. I'm currently playing with ideas atm, so all suggestions help.
>>
>>49419478
>it might conflict with the rest of the army

The asawira would want it that way.
>>
>>49419447
Well, I switched over to ASS for the AVA6 on Thorks, but can't think of what else to fill my last 24 points with, got Atalanta, Nesaie, 2 Thoras with Combis, 2 FO's and 2 Netrods. The group has no problems with proxies, since we're all new, but I'd like to keep everything in the same unit at least with the same model, which mean I can run up to 4 of anything, really. And yes, my waifu is Nesaie.
>>
>>49419012
Scots Gaurd should have one, but Caledonia can't have nice things, they only get obvious LTs.

>>

Don't use netrods for a teaching game.

Use your remaining 32 points to upgrade a Thorak to Ajax and give another one a LRL.

Ajax is great for teaching games because he is so straightforward and a cool model.

I was chatting with Bostria at NOVA, he was wearing the all factions one, and I complimented his shirt. He asked me what my shirt size was. XL of course, the standard male Adonis shirt size He said he didn't have it, unfortunately. I wasn't sure if he meant he had a few extra shirts in his room, or if he would have just given me the shirt off his back. Either possibility would have been amazing. The shirts look good and Bostria is good people, are my main points.
>>
>>49422506
When in doubt pronounce everything in a heavy Espanish accent. Everything Tohaa (when you figure out the dipthongs) Greek, Combined suddenly clicks at that point. At that point, all you have to do is memorize how to say Qapu Khalqi and resign yourself to never knowing the truly glory of mastering the Chinese tritones.
>>
>>49423007
>Try for a long time to properly pronounce Chinese friends name
> "It's cool. I go by Perry for a reason. I get that you can't even heard the difference between what you're saying and the right way"
>>
>>49423007
I've resigned myself to pronouncing everything wrong because my attempts at saying them the correct way will inevitably be just as bad.

Weebs get pretty upset when I ask them what weapons their obiwans are carrying.
>>
>>49423072
Weeb here, nippon is actually pretty easy to pronounce. Once you learn the 5 vowels just pair them with a consonant and your good for most of it. Only weird common ones is their R/L can be hard on people and Tsu.

>>
>>49423072
I've named my Oniwaban OB-1 for that reason.
>>
Anyone know any sources of good quality third party sets of tokens? I've found a few but they all seem really expensive for what they are.

I know you can just print 'em, but I like accessories that add to the gaming experience in small, tangible ways like that.
>>
>>49423397
A couple of my friends use different color plastic beads for everything.
>>
>>49418556

I actually did my Hassassins in the red and white scheme as well; it's worth noting that the Assassin's Creed scheme corresponds with historical accounts (many admittedly dubious or written ex-post-facto) that would refer to the Nizari Fedayeem wearing predominantly white outfits that then received red-dyed elements after assassinations to symbolize that they had been 'blooded' and their purity could never be un-sullied again.

Although this is mostly an extrapolation by later historical fiction writers like Bartol, it stands to reason that the highest ranking members would have predominantly red outfits with very little white, so I did my Asawira in red with white accents.
>>
>>49423453

That's actually really interesting. I'll have to do some of my own research on that, but thanks for letting me know!
>>
Why does release pattern make no sense in infinity? I come from warmahordes where everything is autistically complete. Each faction has a set of accessories, paints, starters, books and whatnot. Corvus just randomly gives out minis, resculpts, the odd terrain piece and no accessories. The rules are free but pretty daunting because lists dont build themselves. I love it but at the same time am very confused.
>>
>>49419939

>Only weird common ones is their R/L can be hard on people
because it's an undifferentiated sound. If they've got the type of accent where it seems like they're screwing up r/l when speaking english, it's because they can't hear the difference.
So any nip who gives you too much of a hard time is a little full of shit.

Tsu is a little hard, but it's easier than 'Gogh'.

Jak to mówią dzieciaki: skisłem.
My mamy też zwyczaj tłumaczenia lub spolszczania niektórych nazw: Father-Knight to Ksiądz, Hospitaller to Szpitalnik, Janissary - Janczar, Grenzer - Grancar itd. Czasem muszę sobie przypomnieć, że nie każdy kojarzy nazwę "Bożogrobowcy".

>>49425477
Most people will say wait for the new one, but if you get both, it will be a decent army, albeit with varied quality sculpts.
Still, that's 7 Regulars (and the new box gives you SWC options) for a Core link and extras, two Montesas ready for a Duo, one Bagh-Mari to use as a Sniper proxy and two different Akalis, both with popular loadout options.
Just put more shit on the old minis' bases to bring them to height.

>>49424698
"hsien" just means "forever" or "eternal", though CB was pretty obviously going for "immortal", which would be translated as 永生 (永 is on their unit symbol thing). If you pronounce it like most people pronounce it, it comes off a bit like "Shien", which would be "First", which, to my mind, sounds pretty good too.

That being said, it's a bit silly to expect people to pronounce things correctly, especially since there's plenty of mishmashed dialect stuff to go around. Hac Tao is the most obvious (should be Hei or Hey Tao) but even Sun Tze/Tzu is weird.

I'd never fault someone for mispronouncing a YJ unit.

Fizylier, Szpitalnik, Bożogrobcy, Janczar, Baszybuzuk, Szaser, Żuaw, Łunochod, Gekon are common stuff. Not even a change, just translation.

Other fun name variants I've heard locally include Bulterier (Bulleteer), Bełty (Bolts), Pedomisie/Pedobears (koalas), MMM (Moran Masajski Morcerca/Moran Massai Murderer), Speckulka, Seczuan/Suczka (Su Jian), Gaylang due to pic related, Ksiądz/priest is Father Sforza, Punglings, Geishabots, Liski/Laski are a source of some confusion (Odalisques and Lasiqs respectively). Dziabazany. Mega Ryba, Glizdobot, Tohaamony, Judeoboty/Żydoboty.

I blame half of these on Maru. The rest, well, we are not mature adults.

It's not all bad. Even silly Bolivians using translation software can get some interesting results. Su Jian translates as "Speeding Sword", for instance, which is appropriate.

Speaking of which, when Subaru, the Japanese auto maker decided on a name when marketing to the Chinese, they chose "Su Ba Lu", or 斯巴鲁, which translates as "the speed which overcomes the road". That's pretty good marketing there.
>>
>>49425872
their is a difference between languages having different differeciations of phonemes and being a tone language.

There are a lot of different sounds that can be used in languages, and a lot are not shared across languages. What makes it weirder is that the sounds a person can hear are not universal, but develop during infancy. If you don't hear the difference between say r and l, or t and d, or 'z' and tsu/tze, or whatever, during that time, you might not develop the ability to hear them as separate sounds.

If you are confident you can produce a paintjob that won't bring shame to your family name when subjected to a high resolution digital camera, leave it off and paint the fuck out of all the plates you would not otherwise be able to reach properly.

If you think having the arm in place will hide or interfere with things that need a high level of paint, then leave the arm off.
What I might do is just barely tack the arm on with the minimum amount of glue to keep it in place. Primer the mini like this, then pop the arm off and clean up the glue. You'll have a clean pair of surfaces for the final glue, meaning no nasty glue squidge spots (if you are careful).

C'mon, if you can't use an airbrush at LEAST as well as Angel, you have no business owning Infinity minis at all. If you're not going to devote the time and practice to be at least that good, you shouldn't bother painting your minis at all.

This is the bare-minimum tabletop standard. You should be able to do at least this well.

it looks like you rely on washes and drybrushing quite a bit, not a bad thing but wont provide great results on infinity stuff, where small, fine highlights and blending are king

Not the painter, but there are "Charcoal Grey" paints out there. Truly dark neutral grey should be a part of every kit.
And it looks like that spear point is dead flat, while the rest of the mini is "typical mini finish"
>>
>>49431150

Besides the beginning layers of Averland Sunset, everything else was dry brushed on until Abaddon Black, and then I tried to layer on shades of blue. Of course I still have no idea how to wet blend so my layering still feels too thick.

Not a big fan of the 'edge lightning' they espouse but at the same time i'm terrible at not doing it.
>>
>>49430975
Mate that is fucking fantastic you should be proud of those.
>>
>>49431131
They all Ariadna? Then yes.
Making a *winning* force is more of a challenge.

One Infinity pundit I read a while back described the list building art of Infinity as "there is no "I ALWAYS WIN" list, but there are plenty of "I ALWAYS LOSE" options."

When matching your play style and the needs of the scenario, both faction and individual model choices are important.

That list is going to have more concerns finding cover than an all Size 2 force, and I suspect you'll find yourself a bit limited on ranged options. In a game about guns and proper cover...
>>
>>49430528

He is under a massive workflow and is constantly painting. Hes the main/only studio and box art painter for CB. So some of the paint jobs suffer.

CB need to diversify their paint jobs and painters to find the balance that GW have when showing what can be achieved with their minis.

>Not a big fan of the 'edge lightning' they espouse
"They"?
Edge highlighting is appropriate for certain model elements, and stupid for others.
>>
>>49431222

GW. Their model scale is already very exaggerated and I feel like edge highlighting only makes many of their models look worse.
>>
>>49431221
I still have a laugh at the growth league challenge the old crowd did in WD years ago. Splashing just enough paint on their WFB models to qualify, and filling the article series with nice big pics of rushed crap.

Wet blending is a strange beast. I've found I have better control when I transition between dried layers but I do use it from time to time. I like to use wet blend glazes and washes but not highlights and transitions.

I use "Vallejo Glaze Medium" a LOT. When the layers are thin but robust they hold their color and composition without having to rush to use two brushes...etc.

Infinity miniatures are great sculpts and casts. However they suffer from that fact. GW sculpts are mostly "larger than life" and full of details that break the flats of the surfaces. You will find with CB minis that you have large flat areas that need lots of line work. Don't worry about being to neat until you start the final stages of highlights as they will pull the other layers together visually. Most importantly just experiment. You can always strip the mini.
>>
>>49431285

I'm not as big on the spetsnaz/navy seal tacticool goons, wish they had some more armored dudes. I'm guessing game melee is pointless in this game too?
>>
>>49431315

How do you wet blend with glazes and washes??
>>
>>49431258
Its hard to know how the studio painters really ant to work on the miniatures as GW try and keep their studio shots to a particular style.

If you ever get a chance to see how they paint in their own style you would be amazed at how good they are. For example the girl that does the warhammer tv tutorials sometimes has a wonderful painterly style that doesn't show through in the studio work.

This isnt a problem for GW as their are many, many top painters that paint their miniatures in drastically alternative styles. CB don't have this yet but it will happen as popularity grows.
>>
>>49431317
Not totally pointless, but it's a niche thing. Close range troops will usually use templates like chain rifles against small dudes and CC against big killy things like TAGs or HI. Wolfmen don't tend to have too much trouble getting in range since they have reliable smoke while being tough and mobile. Antipodes aren't quite as tough, but they do have camo and have the utility that sensor provides.

Mormaers are a good ranged platform and will probably have big bulky models when they get their resculpt, but that won't be for a while.
>>
>>49431317
>I'm guessing game melee is pointless in this game too?
It usually is best left as a deterrent for enemies getting too close to you. There are some units out there that really can bring the pain in melee, but it still tends to be risky and eat up quite a few orders to make it work.

In future space with plasma guns and giant robots, melee is naturally going to take a bit of a back seat in armed combat.
>>
>>49431374
>GW try and keep their studio shots to a particular style
Which bites them in the ass occasionally. There are minis in the past GW line that they never got a good picture of. The first time I saw the original DE Talos on a table I didn't recognize it, because all of their pics of it are from a very narrow POV that doesn't convey the model at all well.
>>
>>49431327
For washes:

With this example assume im working on a olive green base coat or similar. On your wet pallet have the colors you are working with ready. Start with two colors. So I have one green wash/ink and one purple wash/ink ready. I add one drop of glaze medium to 4 drops of wash/ink and about 2 drops of water. You can use flow improver or some other medium .

To wet blend a wash I first wet the entire area thats getting painted with a thin layer of water. Start with the green and let it flow as normal to the recesses of the sculpt. Now as the green is still wet we use the purple(as it contrasts the green) here the deepest darkest spots are but use it sparingly. Capillary action will pull them together. Experiment with the colors.

Awaken Realms on youtube have good tutorials on using washes!!!!!!

For glazing you need a glaze medium to stop the paint splitting and or pooling. Think of glazes as tiny layers of TRANSPARENT paint that change the temperature of the colors underneath.

Basic Skintone (2 thin layers)
Black (outline hairline/eyes/mouth)
wash deepest shadows with Medium Fleshtone
highlight Basic Fleshtone
smaller/brighter highlights Ivory
glaze Cavalry Brown (cheeks/lips for the rouge)
freckles Cavalry Brown
glaze Purple (eyelids)

I still regret forgetting to shoot a medikit at the unconscious Domaru with one of my spare orders but oh well.

Generally if you have an agressive Lt, you want a lot of veteran or CoC. Which, unless you play Spec-Ops means don't have an aggressive Lt. For QK.

I would put your Drop troops in group 2, you can move them to group 1 if you need to once stuff dies. 2 doctors with bots is overkill. Would be nice to get another hacker to benefit from Iggies repeater, especially a Druze KHD, to punish anyone who tries to hack Iggie.

Hey, Anons...

What would be a fine list for an hipothetical ALEPH 300 points pack?
- Must look good.
- Existing models.
- No Proxys
- If it includes a box of "Myrmidons" must use all those Myrmidons.
>>

Anon that's not how vanilla aleph rolls.
If you want myrmidons then just go full ASS.

I thought Data Sphere had some questionable advice about several units, and that some choices listed for some of the factions/subfactions were downright absurd?

Also, I'm pretty sure much of the starting out sections don't reflect the most recent changes to units and rules, ALEPH and Tohaa in particular.
>>
Just getting into Infinity with a friend. Picking up a PanOceania Miltary Order Sectorial starter pack and a Druze Shock Team unit box.

Was this a good idea, or did I end up fucking up? I mainly picked them solely because they looked cool.
>>
>>49438494
Well, those are two different factions. Can be used in casual games together though.

MO is great. Just limited in its selection. I love Magister/Hospitalier links and TOFOOS.
>>
>>49438494
MO might be a bit interesting for a newbie to play with, as they're both blunt, but powerful. You might be spoiled by the direct force possible, and annoyed by the idiosyncratic list options.

Magister are a fantastic next pick, incidentally. A link team of them will really fuck things up, at a good price.

But yeah, the Druze are unlikely to see much use, even if they do look pretty awesome.
>>
>>49438571
Casual games yes, but not in tournaments. Druze only work for QK in ITS currently.

Yup, get maggies/Hospitallier HMG. Then Black Friar, Joan, Warcor and A box of remotes.

no way.
Zuyong & Hsien may be more obviously useful than the Khawarij & Zhayedan but Khawarij are real tricksy in addition to being a rare source of BS13 outside of HI in Haqqislam, and the damage output of the Breaker Rifle Zhayedan is high. Plus the fucking Al Fasid.

The Yuan Yuan is a lot more useful for Haqqislam as QK can use it in ITS.

Now this is true.

But he has already got the starter, so it's useless advice.

If you want to play MO, you'll probably want that brand new Black Friar. Also a Seraph or some big knights to act as beat sticks, unless you're hellbent on proving the world that Teutons are not awful.
God, what did prompt them to remove Linkable from Teutons? Were they intimidated by Poland that much that they felt they should appease them and nerfed their historic enemy?

Hey guys, I'm interested into jumping into this game.

I looked at the miniatures, and Military Orders, Aleph (regular and Assault) as well as Combined Army's Onyx and Morat look the most interesting to me.

Are any of those 5 noob friendly/decent choice to jump into? If it's not too much bother, how does each play on the board?

>>
>>49444520
Moarts are gangster.

Onyx is lame edgy sith smoke cloak shit.

Aleph is cool, but ASS is overdone and there's no Vedics.

MO is cool, Joan is waifu tier. I feel the army is pretty static though, you usually take your magister link+sergeants+konstantinos and call it a day.
>>
>>49433967
Is anyone else a little irritated at the new trend of every four man box having one unhelmeted fig? Really rustles my autismo. Even if they included two head option I would be fine (and I guess a knife arm or something for the ones holding their hat).
>>
>>49444520
The "basic" AVA TOT troops in most factions are going to play similarly, due to most being just statlines and a similar selection of weapons. There are a few skills and tech toys at that level, but not many.

As the quality of the troops goes up, the statlines, special skills, and equipment improve, and this is where the factions really differentiate. Some use visual camo, others use broad spectrum camo or hologram throwing decoys, while others rely on smoke. Certain heavier weapons are more common in one faction or other. A couple factions toy with improved close combat training and weaponry. The hacking tools available vary with faction and specialist, as does the squishiness of the hacker him or herself.
Finally, the nature of truly heavy infantry varies quite a bit. A couple factions have a lot of hard armor types, while others have just a couple types, and one in particular uses genemods instead.
>>
>>49445099
i'm more concerned with the "no girls" boxes (Wu Ming, Djabazan, Zhanchi SWC)

Damn, i wanted another Djanbazan Girl like in the Ghulam Box
>>
>>49444520
MO is big dudes in link teams supported by a few little dudes. You might want to use those swords, but it's usually a bad idea. Knights are good at shooting and there are much better stabby troops out there.

ALEPH is the elite faction. Tough troops, some great high tech stuff and lots of good anti-camo, with smoke throwing assault troops to support them.

ASS is the smoke throwing assault troop sectorial. They can have an unlimited number of their special character-based links, though 2 is generally the optimal number. They're good at beating things until they fall over, and work better in close/mid range combat.

Onyx are a mixed bag. They have a lot of good options from the different CA races, but they miss out on some great things as well, like smoke and non-TO camo. It's mostly big guns with mobile and/or sneaky little guys to support them.

Morats are brute force: the sectorial. They've got lots of link teams to choose from, lots of smoke and absolutely no sneaky options whatsoever. They're not good with objectives, but they have a few outstanding troops like Rodoks, Sogarats and Daturazi.
>>
>>49445284
Wu Ming are at least going to get a female blister, though it's the HRL profile of all fucking things.

Thanks guys.

I understand from what I read that melee is generally plan C at best, but in case I did want a army that does well in CC,, is it safe to assume that Morat, ASS and MO are competent at it? Will help me narrow it down.
>>
>>49445409
Yup, more so ASS than the other two.
>>
>>49445409
CC is more about specific troops, but the MO knights, Morat warbands/Rasyats and quite a lot of ASS stuff can do well in CC. MO isn't really kitted out for it though since they have no smoke, are good at shooting anyway and only 1 of their CC troops has an ability that helps him get into range unmolested.

JSA is a good CC option, those oniwabans can take down fucking TAGs with mono-swords, also they have one of the most CC oriented TAGS
>>
>>49445300
I think that undersells MO a bit. They can pull rather drastic lists like TO spam or having nothing start in their deployment. They have access to a lot of different tricks except smoke.

The addition of the Hospitaller/Santiago Magister goon link allows MO to have objective scoring pain train while leaving ample room for other stuff.

>>49445329
Admittedly there were probably better profiles to have made in a single blister since the Panzer LS version subs in nicely for the HRL, but it is one of the profiles I'm likely to take outside of a core fireteam. I guess it's a good sign when there are so many good profiles you want a model of.

A 5 man link shooting cannot shoot another five man link through smoke without msv2 right? The reactive link should be able to fire back do to sslv2, but would the active link even be able to declare the attack?

Can a link speculative fire? IIRC, a member doing a full order drops out.

Had a game today, I haven't touched the game much since March, had both of these done to me and went with it, wasn't sure on rules.

No, they can't.

No, a link member drops out immidiately.

>>49447006
No. You can only actively shoot through smoke with MSV2 or 3. SSL2 just lets you react normally when an enemy with MSV attacks you through smoke.

They can now after HSN3, but you don't get the burst bonus.

With JSA I'm hitting over 20 in close combat every single time.

Heck, in the last game I played I had Burst 2 CC 26 PH 15 without even going berserk for the +6 against a silly Uxia McNeil who decided to go on top of the same building my Haramaki Link team was in. Only had B2 because she was in the corner of the building and I couldn't fit more than one other person from the link in.

Than later in that game I had CC 29 with my Domaru Lt against some berserk impetuous troops.

And this is on top of the times my Oniwaban or Kitsune have B2 CC 24/25.

>>49443037
Man, that sounds aggravating. I'd be so happy to add 3 to my dice rolls and so eager to roll for an easy kill that I'd just laugh at the situation where he critically passed the roll.

I'd personally suggest Morats for "Newb-friendly" but I recommend going with what you like the look of the most or rolling a D20 and dividing by four to randomly assign the champion to win your heart.

>>
>>49445508
The problem with melee, specifically regarding MO, is that although they have better-than-average statlines and decent gear, they have two conflicting problems:
1) Knights are much better at shooting than almost everyone else's shooting, so they prefer that.
2) Because melee is both rare and very risky, if your knight *does* get into melee combat, it's usually against a melee specialist, and those typically have Martial Arts or other special equipment that can tip the scale in their favor.

Also note that ODD does not affect CC and, as usual, versus direct template weapons.
