Let's talk Kaladesh!

Which cards do you think will see play in Standard or Modern? Which cards are you excited to put into a deck?

Holy shit Ajani!
>>
>it's gonna be white/green in standard forever

JUST
>>
>>49330632
Unless Ajani's due for an origins-tier revamp I don't think she'll be particularly interested in him as a beefslab.

I wasn't the guy who said they liked the flavor text, I just think it's kind of funny.
>>
>>49330609
Oath of Ajani incoming bros, are you hyped?
>>
I haven't seen a single modern playable card yet and limited looks like trash.

Who fucking knows for standard, white looks strong again and red looks weak again.
>>
>>49330666
>two white oaths

we would be more likely to see a oath of ugin
>>
>>49330650
>best planeswalker confirmed to finally return

I hope he and Gideon will be bros, talking shit about the Theros gods and being all just and cool with each other.
>>
>>49330682
grand dad is probably still busy yelling at the neowalkers for killing the titans

and he was right, so maybe he can beat some sense into them
>>
>>49330663
while the term 'beefslab' was pretty bad, I did find the segment where Lilly said "and then the eyecandy started talking', and completely ignores him while coming up with the right lie.

It captured this casual disdain and hedonism in a way that was effective, and got a little chuckle out of me.
>>

>white gets an almost lightning strike at common
>red has to settle with table scraps always

KEK

Does Wizards just have a haterboner for Red or something?
>>
So another Set with Six Walkers? What next a set with 8?
>>
>>49330703
white has already had 4 damage instant to target attacking/defending creature for almost a whole year now
>>
>>49330688
and what was what, 3 days ago, people were insisting that we'd never see Ajani again.

m/tg/ at it's finest.
>>
>>49330688

You know maybe Ajaini does come to the Jacetice League just to ask Gideon about Teros gods.
>>
>>49330650

Well, yeah. Considering he probably never saw a leonin in his life.

This is kinda why I like Ajani. With a lot of Planeswalkers, they're humans so they blend in with the local populace with little more than a change of clothes.

On a number of planes, however, Ajani can draw "WHAT IN GOD'S NAME IS THAT?" which I feel is nice for a planeswalker to have as an angle.

red has a much better creature removal card that was spoiled before this card.
People crying out about the death of red are intentionally ignoring reality, and this is actual proof right here.
>>
Next block will be Allied colored with a GW Ajani and UB Tezzeret.
>>
>>49330756
Maybe it'll be Red/white? Ajani's been in that color before as an impulsive youth, and last we saw him he was row row fighting the power on Theros.

Doesnt Gideon still like the gods? I mean I don't think he's renounced the or anything. His religion just doesn't really come up. It really should more often during these slice of life stories to characterize him some more.
>>
>>49330801
we'll just have to wait an see, I'm excited either way if it's dual colored
>>
>>49330762
>WAAAH RED SUCKS WORC HATES RED

This is somewhat justified as Red is almost unplayable in standard and it's only being saved by Fevered Visions and Kozileks Return

Red needs more than another 10 lightning strike cards that can only hit creatures
>>
>>49330816
We know he doesn't like erebos.

>>49330756
As if he didn't get a mono white card right after Theros block. Do you also think every future Tamiyo will be Bant? They just do that shit to either tick off boxes (there was no GW walker at the time so they used Ajani to tick that off) or to make sure the colors are balanced among the walker.
>>
>>49330831
You don't have to worship all the gods. I think most therans worship just one or two. We know he worshipped Heliod. Heliod and Erebos have a feud so.

This card will be insane as fuck knowing how much Wizards has been pushing those colors in the last years
>>

Love that Leviathan art. Card is pretty nice at least.
>>

There's only been two blocks. And they actually, strictly speaking, lost during EMN. They couldn't beat Emrakul. Emrakul beat herself. They were already braindead practically since jace locked their conciousness-es up in his own to protect them from going insane while they died.
>>
>>49331273
so far the jacetice league has faced eldrazi and won soundly, then eldrazi and mostly won again. BfZ did introduce Ob Nixilis who handed them their asses and got away. so literally they've beaten one once credible threat and that's it. we know ob and bolas are legit threats and despite being stuck on one plane and a horrible narrative mistake, phyrexians are supposed to be a major threat, none of which have even been addressed by mtg's avengers.

>Seems like every set just brings a problem and the Jacestice League pisses on the problem and solves it
We've had literally two sets involving the Gatewatch so far. The first one involved them killing too giant magical monsters that they didn't know were possible to kill, only to have a giant planeswalking dragon that's older than all of them combined show up and tell them off for pulling some stupid shit like that without knowing the consequences.

And so, leaving Zendikar 99% in ruins, they fucked off to Innistrad, which was also dealing with another giant magical monster that was even more powerful and bigger than the last two. They all promptly jobbed to it. Luckily, a necromancer showed up, who helped out a bit, but then she jobbed too. Conveniently, the giant magical monster decided to fuck off, and so the Gatewatch left Innistrad, too, 75% in ruins.

So, which set was it again that they last "pissed on the problem and solved it"?

She was a villain. Explicitly. Wizards said so, Maro said so, everyone said so.
That doesn't make Sorin not a villain, he was a villain that block too. It was asshole vs asshole with the plane of Innistrad caught in the middle.

I think a single or duo of Sigarda's Aid is all the deck would really need. Maybe a triple but the thing is totally a dead draw if not in your opening hand. The main equipment would be bonesaw for free flashes to equip and maybe to activate surge costs if you run bushwhacker. It also turns Trainer into an anthem effect and buffs apprentice even if not equipped. Goggles are just value. With Aid that's a 0-1 mana buff that can act as a combat trick.

She tried, knocked something loose, had a vision of Emrakul, and that was traumatic enough for her to spark. Then she went back to Zendikar where the plane kept telling her to finish the eldrazi off.

Nah, literally the answer to every mtg question. Dominaria is probably the only plane to get more fucked up by "protection" than Zendikar, and that's mostly because we got to see several blocks devoted to the shit instead of a meagre two.

>Fucked up
Population took a hit true, but the plane is lush and full of life and all of that again, and also virgin land to explore without the roil breaking your house every two seconds. Zendikar 3 is basically going to be "Manifest destiny, the block" thanks to Nissa freeing and removing the eldrazi.

I guess you can interpret that as the plane telling her to fuck emmy up, but she didn't really have the power for that.

Which is a lot different than Zendikar saying it can handle them.

I actually love the idea of Nissa's story but it was the one that bugged me the most execution wise. Her origin story wasn't actually awful.

What was awful was every story she showed up in in BFZ.

It was Fucking Nothing: The Series, interspersed by Gideon whipping his surral back and forth while the writers tried to come up with the 50th synonym for killing eldrazi.

Ashiok is probably one of my favorite walkers so I'd like to see him do something meaningful.

I wouldn't mind a 'villains showcase' storyline with something like:
Ashiok
Ob Nixilis
Bolas
Nahiri
Garruk

all trying to kill a member of the Gatewatch. Jace or Chandra would probably be the most fun to watch.

If we're including out of the story walkers I'd love to see:
Tibalt
Karn (+ghost of Venser)
Dovin
Vraska
Kaya
Jace

all appear on Fiora or something.

Yes, she was terrible during BFZ, but they did her story for origins was bad imo too. Like I said, the idea was fine though I remember some niggling things about her being an animist but I forget the specifics. But how they handled her interaction with the Lorwyn elves was totally wrong and made no sense with her previous characterization even if we never explicitly knew she got her opd mindset from the Lorwyn elves specifically before Origins. She actively disagreed with the way they conducted themselves as superiors over the rest of nature in the origin story.

For the record, Wizards has this idea in kind. It was the original concept for Origins but they changed it after learning it was the last core set and and they were coming up with aspects of the story. I would be surprised they dont revisit the villain set idea because it's really fun and they didn't ditch it for any developmental reasons iirc.

The thing is, it doesn't "Die to removal", because it's able to distribute its counters. It can have a lasting impact on the board even if it's killed the turn it's played.

When something is said to "die to removal", it means that it's unable to provide anything of worth if it's shot immediately when it comes in. That's only true if they stack the counters on itself.

8/8 trample for five is the worst way to play this card because artifact creatures get killed by a stiff breeze.
It's good because it can spread the +1/+1 counters, which makes it harder to snipe all your power at once.
>>
>>49333001
Because stopping the fight gives him a moment where he can explain why he couldn't go with her right that instant. He was recovering from one of the most laborious magical undertakings he'd ever participated in and could use some time to rest.

If he had wanted to resolve things peacefully, it was as much in his power to do so as it was in Nahiri's. Her thought process throughout wasn't to kill Sorin, she wanted to show him that she had progressed since last they had met and wasn't a wide-eyed, naive little planeswalker who had only just seen the Blind Eternities, and that Sorin wasn't above explaining himself to her. If he had made the effort to start explaining, it would've satisfied what she'd set out to accomplish by starting the fight.
>>
>>49333025
>even with oldwaker stupidity I'm assuming she wouldn't continue to try and attack him
I'm pretty sure the story actively implied she would attack him until he was beaten by her. It had not all that much to do with Avacyn also attacking her. She wanted to prove herself to him that she wasn't just his protege and in context the way she wanted to do that was beating him in a fight.

She wanted to beat him so he would start treating her like an equal. If he did start, without being beaten, that would skip the need to beat him.

>"What is this, Sorin? How did you bring an angel under your thrall? Who is she?"

>"The other half," he replied.

>His hand whipped out, lightning-fast, and closed around Nahiri's sword. His skin hissed and sizzled, but he didn't seem to notice. Nahiri's fingers were numb, her mind reeling. She still didn't understand. He lifted the point of his own sword to her throat, wrenched her blade out of her hands, tossed it away.

She's stopped fighting to ask a question. She's disoriented, disarmed, and at Sorin's mercy. If at this point Sorin had started actually talking instead of making more clever remarks, she wasn't in any condition to continue fighting. Sorin had control over the situation and it was up to him to decide how that moment would play out.
>>
>>49333300
well, he DID promise her.

anyways, this all ended as poorly as it could for anyone, Nahiri didn't truly enjoy her revenge, and Zendikar was saved unbeknownst to her.

and Sorin? he lost because he never, not once, truly tried to make friends or real allies with anyone in his entire life (Nahiri could have been the one exception, but he threw her away) so it is fitting that he is stuck in stone suffering because no one is ever going to be looking for Sorin Makrov ever again.

What Sorin did was a very black thing to do. She crossed him, and he took advantage of her moment of weakness to incapacitate her. sorin is a pragmatist first and foremost. She was his protege but she was also a person who attacked him. I'm not saying he was correct but i am saying how he handled it was totally expected and normal for him. It was stupid he didn't initially up and tell her what was going on from the beginning ,but the "conflict that happens because somebody didn't talk to somebody else like a human bean would" is an age old plot device and as bad as it is it's not unusual.

Sorin was forced into violence, Nahiri destroyed a plane full of innocent people because she's absolutely evil, sociopathic and cruel.
You can't "boys will be boys" out of this, your waifu is evil.

I don't even like Sorin but he had to be written completely out of himself to make this shitty storyline work and if we don't give bad feedback to this kind of shitty retcon it will end up tainting characters I actually like.

she did this because he "destroyed" zendikar by imprisioning her and not protecting Zendikar.

that didn't imply he didn't know that he wasn't able to get people out when he trapped Nihari.
Or if I'm remembering it wrong, and he only learned he couldn't get people out when Avacyn got trapped, that would mean he didn't even try to get Nihari out for centuries, which makes him fucking evil as shit.

Tezzeret has U in his core identity, just like Ajani is W.
>>
>>49333631
Now Nahiri has to die, painfully, preferably to Ob Nixilis.
She wants to play the revenge game? Let's see how she fares against the guy she donkey punched and sealed from walking away from the literal hellhole she called home just because he was there, now that she's a weak neowalker and he's a demon planeswalker.

Innistrad supposedly happened before ROE, because he supposedly went looking for Ugin right away after Nissa fucked up.
So maybe he didn't try to get Nahiri out because Zendikar's alarm hadn't gone off again in forever.

Artificer is a card type dude .

As is vehicle

stick it in a dwarf aritifcer or human artificer and all humans and dwarves pump it up AND all artificers.

You can easy make a deck where everything is human /dwarf or artificer and then stick it on something to give it a consistent pump>>49333924
Then Ajani would have to be white black to not screw color balance.

The options are

>1

W/B Tezz
Naya Ajani

>2
W/B Tezz
Ajani is just here to set up Amonkhet(He is a cat on egypt and has a history with Bolas) where he will get his card

>2
W Ajani
B Tezz

>3
W/B Ajani
Esper Tezz

In order of likelyhood
>>
>>49333479
What is the point of this working this way instead of using counters to draw X cards?
>>
>>49334045
You'd have both Artificers and Pilots though, assuming we're going for maximum vehicle synergy.

Wotc has to maintain Planeswalker color parity in all blocks .

Kaladesh gives us

W: .5(Dovin)
U: 1(Baan and Saheeli)
B:0
R: 1.5 ( Rai and Chandra Nalar)
G: 1 (Nissa Revane)

They need black and white added for parity, which fits Armani and Team to a T question is the ratios .

Tricolor is considered to narrow to count.

If we have UB Tezz , Ajani would have to be BW for parity. If we have Esper Tezz Ajani would have to be BW for parity

On the flip if Ajani is mono White , Tezz needs to be Mono black

If Ajani is tricolor, Tezz has to be white/black

there is no way for Tezz to be blue here if they don't want to fuck the color pie or Ajani's character.
>>
>>49333691
It's a good beginning but I wouldn't run the 1WW Flying Dorf, Masterwork, or the 2/3 vehicle. Copter, Fleetwheel Cruiser, however..
>>
>>49334115
UB Tezz=WB Ajani
UW Tezz=Not happening, there aren't repeating a walker color pair in the same block
Esper Tezz=WB Ajani
>>
>>49334213
>Wotc has to maintain Planeswalker color parity in all blocks
I'm pretty sure it's not as restrictive as you say it is. They're probably not going to fuck around with Tezzeret's core color for that.

wrong.

4 Smuggler's Copter
2 Skysovereign, Consul Flagship
3 Ovalchase Dragster
4 Fleetwheel Cruiser
3 Depala, Pilot Exemplar
2 Start Your Engines
2 Welding Sparks
2 Pia Nalaar
4 Inventor's Apprentice
4 Toolcraft Exemplar
3 Always Watching
4 Thraben Inspector
4 Inspiring Vantage
4 Needle Spires
7 Snow-Covered Plains
7 Mountain
1 Geier Reach Sanitarium

You don't want to sac any of your vehicles, you'd realistically only be able to stop one or two blocks assuming you never ever sacrifice Clues. Really all she'd be good for is the Thopter to trigger first strike on your Toolshaper.
>>
>>49334507
and ya know, the pumping she can give my trampler.
>>
>>49334407
Curve still way too fucking high and only 2 removal spells for a midrange list.
>>
>>49334213
Alright, so if we discount tricolor Tamiyo:

>Planeswalkers in SoI block
>W: Nahiri, Sorin
>U: Jace
>B: Liliana, Sorin
>R: Arlinn, Nahiri
>G: Arlinn

>Planeswalkers in BfZ block
>W: Gideon
>U: Kiora
>B: Ob Nixilis
>R: Chandra
>G: Kiora, Nissa

This whole balance nonsense you're talking about seems a lot more flexible than you're wanting to imply.
>>
>>49334558
this is where standard is now.
>>
>>49334530
And yet you're not likely to have mana to spare for shitty firebreathing when you're digging with Depala every turn.
>>
>>49334213
>>49334564
If multicolor Arlinn and Kiora are allowed to represent Green in SoI and Blue in BfZ respectively, there's no hard rule that seems to imply Tezzeret couldn't just be U/B to represent Black.
>>
>>49334572
No, it's not. You need to have some interaction if you don't top out at 3. And even then. I mean, Christ, it's a RW list, where are the Declarations in Stone? Harnessed Lightning? Incendiary Flow?
>>
>>49334651
Extra removal goes in the sideboard. Fragmentize and Consul's Power. Good point about the Dec in Stones though. And who the hell would use Harnessed Lightning in this deck when Incendiary Flow is an option.
>>
>>49334651
Welding sparks.
>>
>>49334679
4 Smuggler's Copter
1 Skysovereign, Consul Flagship
4 Cultivator's Caravan
3 Fleetwheel Cruiser
2 Bomat Courier

4 Declaration in Stone

3 Depala, Pilot Exemplar
4 Speedway Fanatic
4 Inventor's Apprentice
4 Toolcraft Exemplar
4 Thraben Inspector

23 Lands

Something like that I'd say. Maybe less Speedway Fanatic, more Chandra, more land.
>>
>>49334679
>And who the hell would use Harnessed Lightning in this deck when Incendiary Flow is an option.

I've playtested 20+ games with Harnessed Lightning, it's actually deceptively powerful. It's also an instant, which matters a lot.

Thing is, you can use 1 or 2 energy to kill off a weak creature in the beginning of the game, and then fuel up a huge Harnessed Lightning later on with left over energy from previously cast copies as well as other cards that give energy.

Ex: One turn, I attacked into 2 Thing in the Ice blockers. Had 3 power and then 2 Harnessed Lightning (HL) in hand. One of them blocked so had 3 damage on it already. Then I cast 1 HL, spend 1 energy, kill it. I have 2 left over. Cast the second one, spend 4 energy, kill the second.

This would be impossible with Incendiary Flow.
