Army Notes: The Lord joins one unit of you-know-whats, while the Sorcerer joins the other unit. The Horrors/Herald roll on Malefic. Thanks to the Draft FAQ, they get both Psychic Focus and Chaos Psychic Focus. I bought some Tau in the past to paint in a few bundles, kept trying to get into the game and never did. Now I want to.

I have a Sniper Team, a fuckload of Fire Warriors, two groups of three Stealth Suits, like three or four regular Suits with I don't know what for bits, the XV-81, a Riptide in the box, Shadowsun, two Devilfish (one has no Drones but has that long cannon upgrade thing on top), a Piranha, and I want that Ghostkeel thing because it looks cool. Plus a bag of Drones of some kinds I dunno, and that third party mini of the Tau pinup girl.

What else do I need?

I have no clue anything of this game rulewise yet, and don't want any non-Tau models if I don't have to. Tau like the race, meaning no Kroot or humans.

I2: They wield an ax and are far from subtle. You can see an ork winding up for a swing a mile away.
WS4: They aren't skilled, but they're so strong blocking their swing is virtually impossible. You dodge or you die.
Str5: They hit guardsmen and the guardsmen go flying.
T5: Redundant biology makes them tough as balls.
Ld6: They don't listen to anyone

Fearless in close combat: Orks do not run from melee!
Fearless when 20 wound's worth of models are within 12" (the unit's own guys included): The only way to stop the tide is to kill it until their's hardly any left.

Honestly, I think Orks should have FNP as their main save because they're tough as shit. Have them lose it to Flamer and Soul Blaze weapons because fire. Boyz have a chance to shrug off all but the most devastating weapons because deys fightin, and bigger Orks need bigger guns. A war boss is the biggest and toughest ork around and needs many big hits to drop.

Maybe have an item to give +1FNP, but have it affect all units in like 6 inches, friend and foe because it makes everyone want to keep fighting.

Alright, I've got a boner for Admech and some extra money. I've decided that a knight seems like a fun project, and the Knight Magaera from Forgeworld has really caught my eye. So two questions;

1- is it decent? I know all Knights are good and I'm buying mostly for the model, but I don't want something that never leaves the shelf. Anyone have a pdf of the rules or how they stack up?

2- would you play with/against it? There's a couple of waacfags at my LGS that insist you can't bring 30k stuff or even Forgeworld models, but most everyone else is okay with it. Is that commonplace or just assholes being assholes?

Hm, that complicates things a bit. A hardcore group would ask you to buy more Riptides, some Stormsurges, etc, while a easygoing group would let you field vehicles.

Well, let's see:
XV81 - could be your Commander
Crisis - 2x2 or 1x2, 2x1 with same weapons on each model and unit. I'd advise missile pods, melta or plasma (cyclic ion blaster is a bitch to get a hold of its bits)
Riptide - your centerpiece. if there are a lot of marines, put the ion accelerator. if not, put the chaingun
Stealth Suits and (future) Ghostkeel - perfect for the Optimised Stealth Cadre, a dedicated vehicle hunter (and anything dependent on cover). If you manage to grab 3 Ghostkeels, you're sold!
Firewarriors - they can grab objectives and ride on the devilfish, as also providing firepower
Devilfish with long cannon upgrade - aka Hammerhead, a full-fledged unit. If you have the shorter weapon, it's better

With this stuff you have, you can make a Hunter Cadre, a formation in the new codex. The Optimised Stealth Cadre would be its Auxiliary, netting you the use of the Hunter Contingent bonuses!

I did this split and got my knight for $75. The only thing is that the box only has 1 avenger gatling cannon, and 1 of each of the carapace weapons. Make sure you and you're partner buyer are fine with the split up of the weapons beforehand.

I plan on building my own table terrain as soon as my army reaches 2000 points. It's gunna be a Bocage-inspired board. Lots of open ground, but said ground slopes slightly as you get towards the middle and LOS is further broken by a shrubline running across the board, and a raised road with ditches on either side running perpindicular to that. Then add wrecks, craters, and barns/small ruins.

Custom Terrain Rules:
Vehicles and MC/GC must role a dangerous terrain check to push through the shrubs, but doing so will clear the shurbs in that area.

Shrubs confer a 4+ cover save for units inside the foilage. Units more than 12" from the foilage cannot see units on the other side (but not in) the foilage, unless one of the units is larger than the trees and shrubs Craters provide 6+ cover, ruins 4+, the ditches around the road 5+. Flamethrowers clear bushes when firing, and can target the brush itself if they so choose (unit automatically gains splitfire for this action)

The hope is to provide cover for infantry but also room for tanks to menuver, while also giving melee (especially jump) infantry a chance to earn their keep by rushing up to claim the treeline in the early turns. Since neither side can see the other until they get close or they clear out the trees, infantry can advance in the open slightly easier than usual.

In short-side games, the road's shape gives one side a defensive advantage on one corner and the other a defensive advantage on the oppisite corner. This creates a strange attack/defense dynamic as the shrubs divide the two sides of the board.

Corner-deployments get a little of both depending on which way you deploy.

Aha, that kinda reminds me of my cheeky idea as to create a Tanith Forest table. Just have a table with 6 VERY LARGE trees surrounding a rusted out guard outpost, along with lots of shrubbery, some rocks in the corners, and such.

The trees would be on very large and tall root "legs". They start in a kind of Hexagon shape, and then at the start of each turn, you roll for scatter for the trees. THEY MOVE. THEY'RE NALWOOD TREES, THEY FUCKING MOVE TO FUCK WITH PEOPLE.

Aside from that the trees themselves offer a 4+ cover save, because they're also literally as tough as steel. So chase after the trees and keep your cover, while praying the dice gods let you keep them?

I guess EW is too good to pass up. Shame she can't also use the sword to make use of her comparatively high initiative (Seras used to be I4 damn it). Shame my jump canoness hasn't been usable since the 5th Ed pamphlet dropped. The worst part is that I know exactly why they did it. There's no official model for it. All you need to do is slap a Seraphim backpack onto the canoness model, but nope. We can't have that.

Especially since if I wanted to go for maximum condemnation, I could give each Celestian in the squad not one, but TWO condemors, and then add 4 priests dual wielding condemors as well. So I know there's lots of anti-Tau shit posting here but I really do have to ask after losing yet another match to a Tau player what are the downsides to Tau? It sure as hell isn't melee with their ability to have half their army overwatch and assault rules being pretty shit in general. I'd like to think it's that they have a 3 BS, but even that doesn't matter for jack when they can use marker lights to somehow become the greatest marksmen in the galaxy well simultaneously getting the option to ignore cover. Markerlights are our foundation. Take them out and the performance drops SIGNIFICANTLY. And melee is actually the downside. Unfortunately, 7th HEAVILY favors shooting, so melee isn't as good as it could be across the board. Theoretically if you ever get into CC with Tau you should wipe them the fuck out, providing you survive overwatch, which again is another problem plaguing the assault phase. The plan is pretty straight-forward. Everything piles into the Stormlord. The Stormlord doesn't move. Each turn it spits out 20 lascannon shots in addition to its usual bullshit. Everything that deep-strikes near it eats 12 Multi-Melta shots. Anything that tries assaulting it eats 12 Wall of Death heavy flamer attacks (and it gets a second overwatch of 8 WoD HF attacks).

So, I posted a 2000pts IW+DarkMech list a few months back, a few anons weighed in with options, I sat on my thumbs and/or studied, and then came back and gave it another hard look. Of course a new book drops RIGHT NOW with new formations to fuck up my plans, but judging by what I've seen I'd either need to seriously shake up my forces or pay a Raptor Tax for the Chaos Warband. Vague plan is for the Warpsmith to run along behind the Forgefiend and Dread, repairing their damage and basically throw all three at enemy troops parked on an objective or fortification. Obviously there will be some tactical thinking as to whether they'll get shot to shit, exploded with grenades or simply unable to reasonably smash whatever they're aimed at. Mechanized CSM move up and take an objective, Chosen keep moving and vomiting plasma at stuff. If the enemy has a bunch of sneaky Deep Strike tricks the Chosen may sit behind my lines, ready to play Plasma Bukkake Party with whatever shows up. The rest of it is either shooty stuff that shoots, or stabby stuff that stabs. The wording for the Aegis Line means the Rapiers will have their own cover, and the Heavy Bolter squad will hunker down behind what's left with the Quad Gun.

Pretty much everything with Eldar in it. As others have said, Markerlights are your top priority. They are force multipliers. The other big thing is leadership and honestly Pie Plates I find.

A lot of our units actually are balanced I'd say. Foot Infantry is T3 with 4+ save at best so a single well-placed pie plate will flatten an entire squad of Fire Warriors off the board. Same thing with templates against stealthsuits and pathfinders (even more so against the latter because no armour save neither). You don't need to charge in Cc, just get close enough to fry 'em.

Ghostkeels = Pack some snipers and take out the drones. That strips the unit of a good 60% of its survivability. Crisis suits and special characters = anything in the melta-range of strength, ID their asses to negate their multiple wound advantage. Even Shadowsun is T3.

MCs get armor saves. This makes them about six times as durable as vehicles against most weaponry. Good luck taking one out with an autocannon, because you'll need it.

MCs don't suffer penetrating hits. This means they don't have to fire snap shots, or lose weapons, or become immobilized, or explode, all of which range from debilitating to fatal to any vehicle unfortunate enough to be within 12" of an enemy melta (or anywhere within line of sight of a railgun).

If vehicles were allowed to have these things they would be much better, and some vehicles actually do. Knights have a 4+ invulnerable against shooting and ignore most penetrations thanks to being superheavy. Well, not being a walker AND being a MC has a lot of benefits:

>No Damage table
>Armour Saves
>AP2 in melee, as also Smash attack
>Move Through Cover
>Fear

Also, Tau MCs (R'varna as an exception) have the Jet Pack type, so they can move 2d6" in the Assault Phase. Finally, they're primary shooting units, which is nowadays much better than being melee.

Grav came to help Poison and Sniper as MC-dealing weapons, but not everyone has that.

Building a list for a very CC based Blood Angels list using the rumoured formations.

The dreadnought librarian will be the CAD's HQ and the scouts will be the mandatory troop choice.

Archangels demi company consists of the terminators, the sternguard vets, the dreadnoughts and the terminator captain.

Bonus: stubborn, reserve roll turn 1, reroll reserve roll, scatter D6 less and reroll warlord trait if main detachment.

In reality I feel kind of bad. I was the bad guy for once, which I'm not used to.

So many new players with net lists, then my best friend got a buffmander Tau to ally to his Salamanders (before the Errata, but that Stormsurge, goddamit) and another one 3d printed a set of rhinos for a Battle-Company Gladius.

And then, there was that guy which I love to play with. We make narrative stuff, we played like gentlemen. We meet at a tournament, I bring my most casual stuff against him (hoping he would be the gentlemen I know he was), and instead he brings 5 leman russ and a baneblade, knowing I struggle against even a couple of tanks.

Yes, I was the bad guy once, but I'm tired.
That guy of the story was my padawan, he was suppose to be the new guy to play fun stuff with, and instead he became like the others.
So yes, I was the asshole for once. I wanted to go down with a blast, since I'll probably switch to 30k and AoS until 8th edition.
