How much cash per session do you give your players /swg/?
>>
>>49298854
In what? Edge of the empire or saga or something else? What time period? Remember that everything is more decedant (expensive) the closer to the core you are. What was the job(s)?
>>
>>49298984
Edge of the Empire. Standard setting (between IV and V) Players are average joe smugglers that have completed the intro premades and a few other jobs, but have stated they want to trick out their ships.
>>
>>49299063
Who are they working for? Keep in mind in the mid to outer rim, people may not have credits as value, but goods or services. Imperial currency is only good for Imperial taxes, because you cant drink credits on tatooine. Have them work for someone who offers them a go at their scrapyard, or offers the more illicit services of a mechanic's shop. This could keep them happy with aftermarket upgrades, especially of the power converters they just smuggled could really amp up the juice on the quadlasers.

Otherwise think about a good "owe a favor" system. Let the players build a network of people in particular places that owe them a debt.

Once they realize they can get past a cargo inspection because they helped the local governor with a mistress "problem" they may not want hard currency.

As a rule though, i try not to payout more than about 5k credits total in the course of a session. If they have too much raw money they may stop caring about plot hooks.

Favors are nice, and throwback is helpfull, but ious dont pay that hutt the money you owe him for dumping the spice.

Things to think about.

I have a,system ive been working on for a while. It also takes place between 4 and 5, and is kind of involved. It has a lot to do with the rebellion realizing that they got lucky with the first deathstar, and that they need more firepower to go up against the next superweapon, since snubfighters cant do everything.

I planned to have them travel to the worlds of the former CIS and see if any old clonewars tech is still out of official hands.

The stops include muunilist the home of the banking clan, now subjugated to be the new center of the imperial banking network (IBN) to look through old records provided by a former CIS sympathizer.

Next stop Geonosis, looking for the droid activation and running code for the old CIS droid cruisers to see if it could be applied in a similar way to a katana fleet concept. Slave rigging and droid brains for dayz. Im using the post virus bombing geonosis, mass extenction by imperial hands geonosis. Just sand and whispers of the past.

Cont on next post, if you have ideas or concepts to share, please do. I need help flushing this out.

On geonosis, they will find activation codes that will lead to a reactivation of several former hive warehouse and storage facilities. Droids once again march the surface of geonosis and begin attacking an imperial mining/archaeological fort near the old poggle hive. I was thinking of having them choose between bugging out and saving the miners.

From there they can jump out system to ryloth or tatooine, nearby worlds where they can see (and fight) the roaring slave market. They can choose to make or break underworld contacts here since the criminal empires like black sun like slave trade, but the rebellion is a free/abolitionist movement.

By the same token there could be on planet unalligned abolitionist movments (Twileks for a Free Ryloth? TFR) that could also make a great network for the rebellion and the players, since slaves know a lot about their master's goings on and buisnesses...

Question for you all- What's the cheapezst way to get 4 Tie Fighters? I want to expand my collection from 4 to 8 TIE fighters, but I don't see any of them on ebay, and I don't want to buy 2 core sets.

What would you suggest?
>>
>>49300120
Cuz it appears to be some sort of troop transport/gunship and wouldn't have been much help at Hoth (probably too cold) or Endor (for obvious reasons)
>>
>>49300120

At least in the movies, I don't really see a point where they would need them. The Alliance was on the defense in ANH and ESB, and in ROTJ the Endor strike time was more concerned with stealth than raw manpower.
>>
>>49300134
Buy two core sets, then sell/gift the rest.
EBay is usually more expensive than its worth unless you want the blue ones from the carrier.
>>
>>49300134
4 tie expansions is about $20 less than 2 core sets.

>>49300120
We don't know if they ever stopped using them, as they are being added in 2016 to a setting that is nearly 40 years old, and we never really saw much of Rebel troop operations during the Original Trilogy in the first place. In ESB, they were already on the ground and then fleeing the planet, and in RotJ, they made their insertion utilizing the captured Lambda.

I speculate that the Rebels use U-wings as rapid insertion troop-landers, like LAAT/i gunships. Since they probably have hyperdrives as well, they could be sent in quickly and relatively quietly to drop off any necessary troops, skirt the area to avoid getting shot down, retrieve the men once the job is done or shit goes south, and then get out of there as quickly as possible. Since they're much smaller and much more maneuverable than GR-75s, I'd imagine the Rebels would be putting them to use for covert, small-scale, and 'delicate' missions.
>>
>>49300299
Only if you buy at MSRP. If you get it online, or on Amazon for example, the core sets are much more worthwhile.
>>
>>49300384

Yeah, the only time the rebels come close to needing a ship in that role is in ROTJ, and the mission parameters mean they need to use a captured imperial shuttle instead. They aren't strike craft like Ys or Xs, so they would have had no reason to go out at Yavin, and the Rebels didn't need to insert troops on Hoth.

I mean, shit, in the early EU, how did rebel soldiers get around? Just captured imperial shuttles?
>>
>>49300215
I already have the ones from the Carrier, and I remember their being pairs of core set ties on ebay for under $20, and I'm wondering where they went.

And I don't like selling stuff on Ebay. it's tedious.
>>
>>49298854

I probably should have said "how do they actually land troops on a planet" instead. You're not doing a tactical fucking landing in a Nebulon.

But I know that Legends is crawling in like, stormtrooper barges and assault shuttles and landers for the Imps. Hell, TFA has both those First Order landers and the resistance shuttle... though the Resistance's shuttlecraft seems like its basically a canonical ugly, some poor bastard striped down a B-Wing airframe and bolted a couple of troop modules on the front.

>>49300701

Well, Rebels using refitted LAATs has been a thing since the classic Battlefront II era. Seems reinforced by Forged in Battle, too.

I'm trying to come up with a pilot ability that makes sense for Gavin Darklighter in X-Wing. In the books he's a young hotshot who earns the title of "worst pilot in Rogue Squadron" by having the lowest kill count, but afterwards distinguishes himself as a dependable ace.

>After you perform an attack that does not hit, if you are not stressed, you may receive a stress token to perform a second attack against that target.

>Until you perform an attack that does not hit, you may treat your pilot skill as 12 during the combat phase.

>When attacking with a primary weapon, you may roll an additional attack die. If you do, after the modify attack dice step, for each blank result remaining, receive a stress token.

Keep Scut, the best Mercy Kill Wraith.

Remove the BDSM bullshit and the Force immunity that every writer managed to circumvent anyway. Visually redesign them, reduce unnecessary spiky bits. Tone down power levels to the point where they don't commit bullshit genocides every weekend. Overall, make their threat level equal to the Legends Empire, but differently flavored.

For the overall story arc, throw the NJO idiot ball out the window. Make Team Skywalker consistently competent and lethal, but so undermanned that they still struggle to fight fires across the galaxy. Remove the "muh Palpatine and Thrawn prepper" bullshit and the Imperial apologists it spawned. Early phases of the war focus on subterfuge, stealth, and research as Wraith Squadron and other NRI teams fight a shadow war against Vong scouts. Gradually escalate the conflict and the NR's response, tech, and weapons. StealthXs and XJs return, along with lots of new ships. Ramp up the Poe hype while Rey and Finn take a back seat. Bring back the Stackpole Rogues and Allston Wraiths. Bring back Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn, Booster Terrik, Pellaeon, Fel, Talon Karrde, the Lando-bots, and all the other old Legends favorites. No bullshit name changes or mere backstory similarities. Bring back the real deal. Give it a happy ending--a New Republic that comes out of the fight bloodied but more united, with its corruption burned away and its military more powerful and battle-hardened than ever. Luke, Mara, and their nucanon kid get to be a goddamn family. Poe and his surviving teammates become part of this generation's Rogues. Pellaeon and Fel lead the true Empire into a silver age and help stamp out the last dregs of Vong and First Order sympathizers. Chewie lives, Wedge lives, Wedge's kids live, Lando lives, Vulkan lives, and everyone important goes home with a few more scars and medals.

Borsk also comes back and gets the death he deserves.

No duplicate pilots or ships?

Royal Guard and Glaive squadron are the highest PS on generics, so kit them like you'd kit an ace. X7 Glaive w/ Juke and a Royal Guard w/ PtL and autothrusters is 61 points. Fill that out with either a support bomber or a couple cheap fighters like ties/FOs/TAPs. A Bounty Hunter may not be an awful choice.
>>
>>49306932
just something I threw together. You got the support from the awac bomber and control from the defender. Then the advanced and regular tie are for mopping up the rest. http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v4!s!49:-1,-1,-1,-1,-1:35:17:u.183,u.95;194:57,22,-1:34:-1:;21:-1:23:-1:U.124;12:-1:-1:-1:&sn=Rebel%20Scum%20Bully

I'm usually an Imperial Player but still gonna get three of this fuckers to run all the aces at the same time.
>>
>>49307415
I've had mine since gencon and I hate to say it, but I think this ship is overhyped. It's great to have an actual arc dodger that can do the boost+roll+green hard turn. But man, I'm so spoiled by interceptors. No evade action hurts badly and the title can be a bit of a trap. I've had poor Fenn Rau get blown away by Manaroo just because I can only modify 1 blank result.

The PS1 and 3 are trash, but the rest are solid ships. Definitely one of the better scum small base ships, but the bar isn't set too high for them.

Think of them more like a Khiraxz that works and less like an interceptor, you'll be better off.
>>
>>49307466
My personal deal is that I love knife fighting, and getting a ship designed for just that is just great for me. I can see what you mean though.
>>
>>49307285
I started thinking ion too, but the tractor lets you shuffle the target around to mess with arcs and will be the first attack you make so potentially all your others can benefit from the -1 agility.

So I want to get into the X-wing game.

I wouldn't do the vong. Maybe just go with the original idea for the Vong before lucas shot it down, a dark side invasion FROM THE UNKNOWN REGIONS. However you need to make sure that in the new canon that really only happens once, whether that's a long, long time ago (remake of revans adventures?) or post Rotj.

Honestly the new timeline is way more depressing in setup than the leadin for NJO was back in the day. It would probably get much less of a backlash, just toss out the edgy bdsm/torture bullshit
>>
I finally got an imperial assault campaign started last week with some of my X-Wing bros.

Now one of them is terrified of opening doors. Each hand we played he was the first through a door and was immediately bloodied by the E-Web waiting for him on the other side.

>>
>>49308311
I've been looking into new board games to play with my friends, how is Imperial Assault? The idea seems kinda cool, feels like a sort of RPG Dungeon Crawl thing in campaign forms with mission to mission stuff?
>>
>>49305465
No. Let's never bring the Vong back ever.
>>
>>49308366
Pretty much. The rebels control a single hero each, maybe some allies, and try to accomplish missions. The Imperial player has lots of units and tries to stop them. Both sides earn xp and progress over the course of the campaign, Rebels getting skills and weapons while the Empire upgrades units and gets bosses like Vader, Boba, etc.
>>
>>49307907
There's a few exceptions, the ARC-170 and the upcoming Rebel TIE will only have named pilots. Think those are the only ones so far.
>>
>>49307628
It's okay anon, you can sleep soundly tonight - I was using it ironically.
>>
>>49305990
be aware that generally you're going to be slower and looking to extend conflicts in front of you for as long as possible. Tractor beams, Admiral Konstantine and the interdictor do great jobs giving you control of your opponent's movement, which can be victory before a shot is fired.
>>
>>49308418
Oh, so you need more than 2 players assumingly?
>>
>>49308685
You can do it with 2, just have the rebel player control multiple heroes.

I'd also say bring Ganner back in some capacity. I liked his whole "journey from an arrogant jackass to a true Jedi" thing, and the battle of the world well is a master class on how to do a lead character death in a series like Star Wars. He doesn't get chumped, doesn't die for no reason, he chooses to give his life, makes them pay dearly for it, and dies on his feet accomplishing something.

>>
>>49308419

>>
>>49305465
Preferably, they don't. But, if you have to:

Sheevy P had hella projects when he was moseying around as emprah. One of these was to grab some of the more talented, slightly more amoral Kaminoan geneticists and divert them to a specialist project of his.
The Vong were the product of one of those research stations in the Unknown regions - a race of hyper-capable clone soldiers, a heavily modified genetic blueprint, effectively a designer organism. Palpy had plans for a small army of these things, a legion of hyper-capable terror troops.

As horrific sciences projects always do, it went wrong. When attempting to create a competent general, the scientists over-reached somewhat. Not as intelligent as them, certainly, but smart enough to break out of containment, kill or kidnap them and understand the research notes.
In the (presumably by then forty) years since RotJ, they have been increasing their number and generating their rigid caste system of clones. Born a scientist, a general, a warrior, a worker, etc.

When Comming up with a sith antagonist for... really any SWRPG, how far is going too far?

For example, the idea of, I've heard it described as "a diseased body reflecting a diseased mind" sounds like a cool concept, the notion that the more twisted an evil you become the more it is then reflected onto your person.

And one idea I had for a sith lord "Darth Dominus" to have his embrace of the dark side manifest in a way reflective of a Wendigo, with pale skin, an emaciated-looking body, large yellow eyes that frequently weep blood, and no lips, instead a scar around his mouth suggesting that is lips were at some point ripped or possibly chewed off. the "cold" so often associated with sith is so palpable around him that it leaves frost in his wake.

But with that said, I also recognize that this is still star wars and as such want to know if this character's image is much for the setting?
>>
>>49311202
Amazing how much more likable he looks with that small change.
>>
>>49311349
Star Wars has had, canonically:

>person damaged beyond belief literally held together by the Force, in constant agony
>impregnation by the Force
>a robot with a beating heart quad-wielding lightsabers against a full-on Jedi and holding his own

Only one of those is no longer canon and I'm far from a Star Wars expert. Maybe I wouldn't go with frost, but it fits your guy and is far from ~craaaaazy~ force shenanigans

Speaking of Dark Side Redheads, there's also Lady Lumiya.

And Blackhole

Jerec's a good choice because he's on the competent side of moustache-twirling. Trioculus is a good choice because of just the opposite

Sedriss is a solid choice if you want somebody strong in the Force and fanatically loyal to the Emperor.

Iceheart's probably happier doing the whole "secret police" thing from the Lusankya.

Oh, and Baron Tagge was trying real hard to make Vader look bad so he could take his place.

The way X-Wing works is you have upgrade cards in various categories. Stuff like torpedoes, new skills, ship mods, etc. One type of upgrade is the Title cards, giving your ship additional abilities.
It's the difference between having the Millenium Falcon and a generic YT-1300.
The Jumpmaster 5000 set includes the Punishing One title, but it's possible to put any pilot in a generic Jumpmaster, including Dengar. There are also generic notDengar pilots if you prefer.
The choice of equiping the title is yours (Punishing One title is hella good but hella expensive)
>>
>>49310214
Keep in mind just because Vader is dead doesn't mean Sheev's new apprentice will take Vaders role in the Imperial hierarchy. I would consider it pretty unlikely actually since Vaders entire shtick is being a "loyalist" jedi to Palpatine. The only other could who could fit the role of both Sith apprentice and being a public figure would probably be Jerec, and he's too ambitious, most likely.

So you need to fill the role of Vader as a sith apprentice (prospective members include Jade, Jerec, Lumiya, Kadann, Maarek Steele, Arden Lyn, Cronal/Blackhole and ofc ourse Sheev could probably just clone up Anakin/Mace/whoever the fuck he wants with the DNA banks from the Temple) and then you need to replace him as the head of the Imperial military, where replacements would be drawn (mostly) from the non force aspect, such as Thrawn, Zaarin, Oshald Teshik, Zsinj, Tarkin, Ardus Kaine, and so on, and so on). nicely set up for political infighting and intrigue

Don't forget Sheev could just say fuck it and not get an apprentice and just stick with having a shit ton of dark side non sith servants since he thinks of himself as the Sith'aari or whatever
>>
>>49312765
Steele's sensitivity wasn't discovered until fairly late in the GCW.
>>
>>49312765
Declann! Declann would work!

He's both a dark sider and a grand admiral!
>>
>>49312765
well the main driving force in this semi coldwar is that one faction is the dark side acolytes want to be Sheev's apprentice and the moffs/generals who think the next guy incharge shouldn't be the next space wizard in line and a person with real experience
>>
>>49312904
Declann would definitely work, didn't mention him since he's such a moody guy. Would need some serious training/disciplining. Nothing preventing him from being depicted differently, or just coming up with a force sensitive General/Admiral OC donut steehle

The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that's left of their religion.
>>
The big question is, was the emperor ever openly known to be a force user? I can't remember if this ever came up in the movies.

>>

Based purely on the originals, it seems to have been a secret kept tightly amongst his closest advisors. Add in the prequels and the secrecy levels surrounding his force power status is reinforced further. People think he's just a kindly old geezer from Naboo.
>>
>>49313343
'Sith' didn't come up until Phantom Menace and related material, of which you can actually count the comics coming out at the time and KOTOR games as apart of. If I remember right, Sheev in Dark Empire related material was labelled as a 'Dark Jedi Master'.

Not far from the truth though, Sheev practically didn't give a shit about the Rule of Two or the Sith as a whole once he became Emperor. He just wanted to rule forever now that he had everything he wanted.

>>49313411
I think even post-fall of the Empire, Sheev being a Sith would be seen as propaganda even by the common people of the Galaxy. You'd have pro-rebellion people going 'sure he was a tyrant, but do we have to prop him up to be an evil magical wizard too?'
>>
>>49312687
Ok now I"m confused. I know that pretty much everything except the films got wiped. What's the Scourge of Malachor thing?
>>
>>49313441
Yeah. And can you imagine how people would react to accusations of Sheev having orchestrated the entire clone wars, if luke revealed info from his holocron/writings (see jedi handbook, leegnds)? there would be a real "come on guys, be realistic" reaction
>>
>>49313402
I really hate the idea of extragalactic spooky invasions because after Mass Effect they've been overdone and over saturated in literally every single science fiction mode. Even fucking Star Trek's having Mirror Universe invasions over in STO. Sure Star Wars started it up with the Yuuzhan Vong War, and I'm one of the few that actually liked the NJO but no, I don't want it redone. I'd love to see more post-Vong War novels set in the Legends Universe, but I wouldn't want them going over the actual Yuuzhan Vong Invasion once more.
>>
>>49313476
Well, mass effect was basicly ripping off the extragalactic/UNKNOWN regions invasion from star wars so...

There's room for it, just not Vong.
>>
>>49313469
>accusations of Sheev having orchestrated the entire clone wars
Was that ever revealed in-universe post-Endor in Legends? I don't remember.
>>
>>49313510
Nah, it's done and done. I liked it the first time, one of the few around here that did, but the whole extragalactic invasion's been so oversaturated I don't want it repeated. MAYBE in like 20-30 years when the Vong War's just a forgotten memory.
>>
>>49313531
I believe the rebels were not exactly hiding it, but I don't know if they had proof.

In the Empire/Rebellion comics they told the stranded Clone Trooper "Well, your fellow clones won the war, but then were used to destroy the republic"

>>
>>49313617
Go on Wookieepedia, search for a starship and check if it has a canon tab.
>>
>>49313617
I think you can figure it out pretty quickly by looking ships/pilots up on wookipedia.
>>
>>49313638
Wookipedia: if it has Canon / Legends tabs, it is canon. If it does not, it's either only Legends or only Canon. Check out it's first appearance (should be at the bottom of most articles) to figure out which it is.
>>
"The TIE/D Defender was a starfighter used by the Galactic Empire. This fighter was capable of firing missiles that detonated over a moderate area, causing high damage to enemy defenses.[2]"

Thanks!

No luck on the Phantom though. Not to mention the pilots.

What sort of tournament is this? Do they also forbid you from running Biggs and Poe in the same list?
>>
>>49313751
It's a store tournament. The owner has strong opinions.
>>
>>49313826
Ouch. If that's the only place around running x-wing tourneys, tough luck.
>>
>>49313855

I know this is more of a /v/ question but how is empire at war?
>>
>>49313826
Out of curiosity, does he also refuse to stock non-canon ships?
>>
>>49313826
That doesn't sound like something FFG would be too happy about. If he's running his own tournament, obviously there's no recourse, but if he's using a tournament kit you might want to ring them up.
>>
>>49313826
Are all tournaments like that or is it just one of the "flavor" tournaments?
>>
>>49313913
No, he's fine with selling them. Legends books not so much, but he'll generally sell anything.
>>
>>49313826
He sounds like the worst kind of store owner imaginable. Hope you buy from elsewhere.
>>
>>49313942
It's the first one.

I'm half inclined to get one of those Triocolus t-shirt designs from the last thread printed. Doubt he'd get the reference though
>>
>>49313826

>>
>>49313996
Man...its one thing to prefer NuCanon, but for him to literally be the "Your Canon Is Dead, Son," guy in real life is a real dick move.
>>
>>49314004
He's the only dedicated game store in the area. But up until now I've only played round other people's houses so he's been safe to ignore. I'm aching for a proper tournament but I'm starting to really doubt it's worth humouring him
>>
>>49314102
Are any of the folks you play with also playing in the tournament? How do they feel about it?
>>
>>49313617
The intereting thing about this, is it causes a lot of issues with running specific ships. For example, on the canon HWK-290 (for either Rebel or Scum), your only "canon" pilots are Spice Runners and Rebel Operatives. Yet the ship itself is canon. The same thing happens with other ships, like the Tie Defender... Only the generics are actually "canon". Indeed the Empire gets hurt the most by this, as a vast majority of their canon ships have no legit canon ace pilots (such as Interceptors, Defenders, Tie/FOs and Bombers).

Interestingly enough, this also adversely affects Scum in a really bizarre way. It's well known that all 6 of the bounty-hunters that showed up in Empire Strikes Back are canon, and accepted knowledge that each of them (barrin 4-Lom) had their own ship(s). Yet per official canon, only Slave-1 and the Hounds Tooth can be used (Hounds Tooth having appeared in Clone Wars). This also means that all Scyks, Kihraxz, Starviper, and Scum Z-95 (even generics), are all off limits.

In short, sounds like the store owner wants to limit it to Rebels/Resistance, remove the "pilots I dun't like", and curb-stomp Scum and Empire out of the competition.
>>
I was here in a earlier thread asking for stats on a Dynamic Class light freighter (Same model as the Ebon Hawk) and a friendly fella said he'd stat it.

I lost the thread so I don't know if he ever came through, did anyone see it?
>>
>>49313617
>>49314225
So Fat Han is the best list to run under these rules right?
>>
>>49313617
>What's a good place to get solid canon material about Star Wars ships?

Another store where they aren't retarded.
>>
>>49314259
Not necessarily... "Canon" has a lot of leeway with Rebels, and you could still end up against B-Wings or TLT Y-Wings en mass (which can, and will, fuck over Fat Han). Biggs of course will probably be prevalent, due to this guy's own derpt lack of foresight. And so something like the VCX with Biggs, and Chewie riding shotgun for Ezra in the shuttle, is all fucking canon.
>>
>>49314225
Also, is Tycho "canon"?
He HAS been identified as one of the A-Wing pilots in tge briefing in RotJ, and as the second A-Wing to peel off during the superstructure run.
>>
>>49314123
A few of us are considering gritting our teeth and bearing it. The rest are either busy, indifferent to tournaments in the first place, or sufficiently pissed off about the limitation that they won't be going.

It would actually be pretty funny if nobody showed up.
>>
>>49304802

Same for the Ghost, it barely tickled an AT-AT with proton torpedoes AND couldn't even kill those stupid spider things that were barely bigger than a person.
>>
>>49314571
That's Old Canon. I don't think that counts anymore.

Though they were quick to recanonize General Cracken from ROTJ.

Then again, Rogue Squadron has a significant base among Legends fans, so re-introducing them would be a double-edged sword and you'd need to bring back Stackpole or have Allston's ghost possess somebody to help ease them back in.
>>
My friend keeps pressuring me to go to a game store with him to play X-Wing, but I really don't want to. It's a 30 min drive and of course I have to drive because he doesn't like the highway. Plus there always seems to be a bunch of weirdo neckbeards at these stores. Maybe I'm the weirdo, but I always end of cringing when he takes to me to these stores. Also, I just don't feel ready to fight other players because my friend always wins against me. I don't want to drive to this store only to lose even worse. Wat do /swg/? Suck it up and go and try not to cringe?
>>
>>49314710
>AND couldn't even kill those stupid spider things that were barely bigger than a person
That was so stupid. Can't the writers figure out how to make intimidating creatures without always resolving to make them blasterproof?
>>
>>49314571
Unfortunately, he falls into "Legends". Along with Horton Salm, who was originally the Y-Wing that peeled off in RotJ. Wes is canon, because Wedge specifically calls him out saying "Nice shot, Jenkins!". And of course Luke, Jek, Biggs, and Garven Dreis are all canon (Garven being "Pops", or Red Leader in ANH). But so many of the other pilots aren't.
>>
>>49314744
I'm in a somewhat similar position. Up until now I've only played with a friend and I have a total of two wins against his 7-9 (I haven't kept count), I know there's a game store that run X-wings, but I've been hesitant to go there for the reason of sucking so badly. Also, /tg/-stories of the terrible people that dwells in game stores have kinda scared me off.

Still, my advice to both of us is that at least try it once. Right now I'm just looking to have the time for it.

>>
>>49314913
Iirc, Wedge is rumored to be showing up in S3. If they bring Tycho in, that'd be pure sex.
>>
>>49314744
You could always have him pay you for the gas mileage so you get some compensation out of it.

As for playing other people, go to have fun and see what other kinds of builds people are playing. I went to my first store tournament last month, didn't know anybody and got wrecked in every game. Still had fun though, since I saw what needed to be tweaked in my lists and the neckbeards were the friendly kind of weird.

>>49314865
Hobbie's canon too, thanks to Luke talking to him at Hoth. So's Arvel and *think* Ten Nunb (since he's in the briefing). YT-2400 generics are too (not Dash & Leebo, though)
>>
>>49314887

Honestly it might be fine. You have no idea who's going to turn up at whatever LGS until you actually go.
I've had tournements with mouthbreathers, I've had other store tourneys where everyones been really nice and generally helpful.
I've played against player who clearly haven't found the wherewithal to even clean themselves this morning.
I've also had players who are really nice talkative people who also beat me like a drum every time because they do the full national tournement scene.

And that last one was in a small podunk 10 man tournement in a store barely bigger than my room.

You don't know until you try.

Well if he wants to be a dick about it, be a dick right back.

Bossk:
VI, Homing Missile, 4-Lom, Zuckuss, Dengar, ID, GC
Boba Fett:
PtL, Gonk, Glitterstim, Seismic Charge, EU

You can't get a more canon list than that with Scum, with both Bossk and Boba's ships being canon. Even the goddamn Gonk droid shows up several times. Glitterstim is the only thing.

I've had really good success with it against a variety of lists.

Alternatively just run 8 tie fighters. That would also work if you know how to fly it.

If you want a canon Imperial Aces Squad:

In the briefing room. Along with Keyan Farlander, Tycho, and more. Technically however, that is because many of those characters were written and made to look like pilots in the briefing room well after RotJ. Those actors and extras are now post-credited for those roles, when originally they were just "pilot 6 in background shot".

You want to beat your friend? Play people better than him and learn the tricks and builds that they use. When I first started playing I lost a lot. My first tournament I went 1-4. Two years later I'm one of the best players in my region.

Playing X-wing is a skill like any other. Practice more and you get better. Keep playing the same friends and you'll probably stay about where you are.

>>49314897
Yes he does. The old guy who peels off in DSII.

Pity Arvel isn't a better pilot, he's the most canon A-wing.
>>
>>49315143
Iv'e wanted to try Arvel with Intimidation some time. I doubt it'd be all that effective on it's own considering you wouldn't get an focus/target lock to go with the attack, but if if you want someone for ace-blocking I can't think of a better (small) ship to do it.

The Planet of Malachor is a play on Malachor V from Kotor 2. Showed up in Star Wars Rebels recently, and before that was mentioned in a reference book as the origin of Kylo Ren's lightsaber design.

Kotor ship designs have begun showing up in Rebels and mobile games.

So, because more of the people who hear Star Wars don't have very high reading comprehension, they see these images and assume Every, Single, Aspect of Kotor is now canon, even though *every* interview that states "we used the design and name, but its a nod, not a validation."
>>
>>49304722
Make him somewhat dependent on another ace being present. He grew out of his crappy flying by being backed by Corran.
>>
>>49315518

Was it the actor who played Wes or Hobbie the one with the distinction of being the only actor to play both a gunner and the pilot he's shooting at?
>>
>>49315680
Ok yeah that makes sense. And it makes sense for Star Wars fans too.
Personally, if it's not directly contradicted, I'd use technically not canon stuff in the RPG or as fluff names, but I don't see how folks would argue that it IS canon when people said it.
>>
>>49315687
>his crappy flying
I wouldn't call it that.
He's good, he's just the least badass Rogue when he starts out.
That's like taking last in a race at the olympics, you're clearly still very good, it's jist that everyone around you is better.
>>
>>49315687
>If ~~ is at range 1-2 of another unique friendly pilot before attacking he may take a free foucus or boost manoeuvrer.

Represents listening and taking advice or rushing on ahead. Don't know my X-wing wording very well so I don't know if "Before attacking" is correct for something to be done as his initiative comes up the the attacking step but before any attacks are declared.
>>
>>49305465
I really hope they don't. That being said, a few good things from the EU that I want to see are:

>KOTOR
obviously
>Lusankya
I just love the idea of Wedge being the captain of a Super Star Destroyer.
>Pellaeon.
I know that Thrawn is back, but we have yet to hear if Pellaeon is getting re-canonized as well.
>Talon Karrde.
I have a soft spot for the bastard.
>Dash! *dun-dun-dun-dun* AAAAAAAAHHH, Savior of the Galaxy!
Since we are never getting Kyle Katarn back, we can at least hope and pray that we get Dash Rendar back.
>>

There is a YT-2400 prominent in the Rebels S3 trailer, at points. So, could be a chance to drop in a Not!Han.
>>
>>49316304

I just hope that if KOTOR does get recanonized, we get properly archaic ship and tech designs this time around instead of slightly redrawn OT/PT stuff. Also, Zayne Carrick. Revan and the Exile ain't shit compared to his magnificence.

Sure, its an RPG game. I use Admiral Daala, Zorba the Hutt, and the ancient Mandalorian crusaders as aspects of my game. But just because one episode of Clone Wars had the Neo-Crusaders, I don't expect all aspects of the Mandalorian Crusaders are now canon.

He's spotlighted in the Shadows of the Empire video game and had a kickass action figure. He's got a few other smaller appearances here and there (I think he pops back up in the NJO/Legacy Era, and has a cameo near the end of the Han Solo Trilogy)

The problem with Dash Rendar is that he's a brash, hotshot Corellian smuggler with a YT freighter and sassy copilot filling in for a brash, hotshot Corellian smuggler with a YT freighter and a sassy copilot.

On the bright side, if they ever do reintroduce him, they've got a lot of leeway to flesh him out as a character
>>
>>49316933
The only piece he shows up in, was the multimedia project that was Shadows of the Empire. He is (one of) the main character(s) in the novel, and is revealed to have been a smuggling buddy of Han's. He was at Hoth, and helped the Rebels escape, but soon after took off on his own. A lot of the story is supposed to deal with the events between Empire and RotJ, so after killing one of the IGs (iirc, it's B), he hooks back up with Luke, and Lando, to rescue Leia from Xizor and Black Sun. Xizor, and the Black Sun syndicate, are the main antagonists throughout the story, with the Empire being an overarching threat that Xizor is trying to pull a fast one on. In the end, Xizor's plan goes to shit because of "our heroes/heroine", Xizor is killed in his (iirc) skyhook orbital platform by Vader, Guri escapes in the Virago (?), and Dash fakes his own astroid-crashing death so he can avoid Black Sun coming after him, as well as the Empire.
>>
>>49316933
Dash Rendar is Han Solo with a fresh coat of paint. If they weren't both active in the same part of the timeline, you could change the names and say they were the same guy and nobody would argue it.

He's Ginger Han w/out the "heart of gold."

Leebo is his droll copilot droid. Honestly though, in the novel he's a asshole bit-player, though his Yt-2400 is described as being chromed up.

Now, if you grew up playing the Shadows of the Empire N64/PS1/or PC game, then you'll know him as the guy who just happens to be places in the best non-Kyle Katarn way possible.

Btw, the PC version is on sale for $3 right now, about the price of a used paperback of Shadows of the Empire. https://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_shadows_of_the_empire

The word "Sith" was actually first used in the original novelization of A New Hope - as in, the one that came out six months before the original movie did.

So that word has been a part of the Star Wars mythos for as long as Star Wars has existed in the public eye, but no one really knew what they were - only that Vader was a Dark Lord of them.
>>
>>49317093
Yeah that is ultimately the biggest problem with Dash as he stands right now. "Han-Lite" is a perfect descriptor for him. And the only real differences in character is that Dash has a droid as a copilot, a newer (sleeker) YT frigate with big ass fucking heavy laser cannons, and he doesn't owe a debt to Jabba.

In the campaign I'm playing in, Takel actually turned out to be Force Sensitive, the drugs being a cover cooked up by his brother to hide him from the inquisitors. Apparently Sheev knew, and specifically made him a Grand Admiral just to piss off the Inquisitors (though Takel's aptitude for Foresee and general grasp on strategy certainly helped too). He hated Sheev, but obviously that wouldn't have to apply.

He's so well played I forget that in old canon he was basically a high-ranking space druggie bum who was casually executed by Hissa for being a whiny bitch.

I've got him wanting to be teamed with Asyr Sei'lar (PS7), who's current working ability is when a friendly ship at range-1 is attacking or defending, they may re-roll a blank if they're stressed, but I'm not sure if it fits with here character from the books.

My idea for him is that he risks much harder to try scoring kills to impress his teammates, but stresses if/when it backfires. The direct dependency on a teammate is a good idea, I might try coming up with things that start off "if a friendly ship is at range-1...(you may re-roll a blank) ("
>>
>>49318688
perhaps something like. when attacking a ship that has already been the target of an attack this phase you may reroll 1 or 2 dice.

so he's good when he teams up with someone, but only if they're an ace (attacking before him). so he's wasted as the big guy in a squad of generics.
