The trouble with difficulty modifier, and drawbacks that award points, is I want to focus on jolly cooperation. That's hard when person A picks to be a God who's a schizophrenic drunk so he can have more points, and person B picks to be an un-named side character.
Drawbacks are insanely hard to balance. They have to be actual drawbacks, but they mustn't be so bad no one ever picks them, but not so not-bad that they're free points.

Elaborate. if you mean "can I make up my own semblance?", then probably not. Your first instinct will be "how can I be immortal and omnipotent". I can't see a way to balance that.

Also to comment on "not enough points", I actually liked that. You're on a team of four, you being a specialist in all fields makes the other team-members redundant.
Why are they here when you're more charismatic, stronger, faster, smarter, a better sniper, a better strategist etc. than any of them? You have to specialize, and with four specialists you end up with a balanced team.

I'm making a simple CYOA based on running a civilization. What kind of things would /tg/ want? So far I have the following ideas:

-A choice between becoming an intangible god or a physical demigod, each with their advantages and disadvantages.
-A choice of how much fantasy is in your world. More fantasy strengthens the boons to your people.
-A choice of boons for your people. Thus far I have: Metallurgy, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Health, Wealth, Architecture, Science, Culture, Exploration, Religion, War, Communication, Governance
-If more fantasy is allowed, a choice of magic schools to impart followers.
-Choice of a powerful artifact

Things I'm specifically looking for input on:
-Should the CYOA be set in a certain time period? A certain geography? Or should I make some preset suggestions but leave the time and place to players?
-What are some cultures and civilizations you would like to make an appearance, either as rivals or to play as?
-What sort of additions would you find fun?

So the being that summoned me is a Small God. Insect Queen says it can include "minor behemoths, strange gods, or bizarre demons", so I figure taking Small God with Insect Queen and Tentacle Monster, with Archetypical Combination can make some kind of minor eldritch God. So this eldritch God has Ovipositor and needs a living incubator to keep eggs in. Form Sculpting made me perfect for that with Seven Gates Yielding, Rapid Pregnancy, Additional Breasts, and Endless Lactation Effect. I'm infertile (because pregnancy=ew), but Rapid Pregnancy doesn't say that it requires fertility. So I figure it can mean that I can incubate eggs so they're ready to hatch faster, making me perfect specimen for this job. I wish Easy Pregnancy didn't require fertility, otherwise I'd pick that so holding eggs wouldn't be uncomfortable.

Pretty much every other choice is related to my comfort. The eldritch God cares a lot for the well being of its eggs, so it makes sure that I live life of supreme comfort and luxury. Just lounging around draped in jewels with a maid to clean up after me could get boring after awhile. But Immortality just so happened to require Essence Refinement x3, so I have a strong ability to learn magic. I didn't take any extra choices to boost magic, so I'd have to learn slowly with lots of studying. Thankfully I have lots of free time to do it and the eldritch God shouldn't mind as long as I don't exert myself to much.

Eldritch Gods probably live very long times, so I might have this job for thousands of years. When something does eventually happen to it, I will have learned lots of magic and can explore the multiverse as a powerful sexy sorceress.

My outfit is like a cross between the Cleopatra and Slave Leia ones, so like sexy-skimpy and all made from gold and jewels. This is to show how valuable I am as an incubator for baby demi-Gods. And I have to have the Collar and Leash because I'm owned. As for my appearance, I'm a very attractive busty blonde.

Originally I was just picking out the powers I felt were most interesting while giving TL all the combat utility. As it is, the build inadvertantly started to lean towards something druidish; Mastery of Biology only really cements that. Plus Father Of Beasts is cool in general and its goals don't seem too bad as far as I know.

It's a bit hard to sympathize with a group where some of the members want to murder me because of something I can't control.

Most people wouldn't pick this one, but it's just an example, they don't all have to have such drastic downsides as "you will 100% die violently".

So then in total I have 6 personal, 12 phantom, and 8 occult.

Personal:
Level three intelligence should be a no brainer. It's so cheap and includes two such useful lower layers.
First level of network, since it's necessary to act in Arcideal.
Strength 1, since it's literally the only single point option around.

Occult:
Arcane Understanding seems super useful.
Appearance level one, for intrigue.
Illusion level 2, both for my own appearance and in case I need to be tricksy.

So, I'm the greatest martial artist in the world, apparently. A man capable of defeating entire armies with only his fists! Ultra-Hard mode in which I have almost all of my party and allies connected with highly intricate webs of intrigue and deceit. Main Rivalry would be Lana and Jeane fighting over me because of the key within me while Ruin tries to destroy both of them (probably Lana first). Main story will be investigating the cult along with figuring out my role in all this. Side stories would come up with Dusk City first to get into the swing of things. I'd probably keep the information quiet as long as the fix the problem and I can call on a few favors later. I would side with the Phantoms in Defenders and later have them take the Puppet when I find her for her protection. While this is happening in the background I use both of my allies to get the whole truth by seeing both sides. I would probably be successfully kidnapped later and release Saint Orlindce but after being rescued by my allies we proceed to defeat the cult and try to save the world against Orlindce's rampage in the final battle.

Sure is a lot for me to do. Well first off, I'm fully immortal. Killing me would take a lot. I'll start by traveling and healing everyone in every hospital I see. No one will notice me but they'll notice the affects.

Not quite. I think when it comes to Incarnates, Unknown is on the scale of the Angels, Demons, Patrons and other Incarnates + etc not knowing of your existence and shit. Your family will still know you, and so will your co-workers, it's just that on the cosmic map, you won't show up. Until you forfeit your immunity by making a wave.

I'll let Civ run my bussiness for me and help the world. I'll use ol Warrior to train with and I'll use exploration + universal maps to show me where to go.

I'll try my best to raise Uni right and use learning model to help me teach them. It'll be good practice for my next plan.

After my proffessionals have built all the building's and I can't find anymore incarnates (because of course some will take unknown as well) for a while, I'll go to my home dimension and use animus 3 to try and create life. Create an entire new civilization and try and play god for a while, you know, before I become god.

Eventually, I'll have found and fought all the incarnates and while some might be stronger or more magical or have special case's, most probably won't be as determined and near immortal as me. I'll bring any I kill back to life anyway.

Eventually I'll just stop looking and wait for the last of them to die of natural cause's. I can live forever, they can only live for 1000 years, even with immortality they'll most likely be killed while I play daddy to an AI and my own personal species.

Might be boring just waiting for people to die, but I won't be idle, I'll train, get experience, fix the world with money and miracles. Sooner or later someone else will try and destroy the world to kill the unknown incarnates and I'll be there to stop it.

I don't dislike the new version, but I personally prefer characters who are almost blank slates to characters who are somewhere in between, unless written really well. If something is really vague, it's pretty easy to fill in the rest yourself using cliches and so on. As it stands now, there isn't that terribly much to them and it's harder to infer random things based on expectations.

I may be alone on this, but I think a lot of really simple characters made up of a few simple bullet points (if you even want to call them that), have more character than those that are detailed in a few paragraphs.

Considering that dusk city is set after spire (if they aren't seperate timelines), this means that the MC fails at protecting them. So the characters of the original cyoa being turned into 'used goods' is the dealbreaker for people, I believe.
But it's moot anyway, because word of god says it's different timelines, so I think it's best to lay this matter to rest.
