Pathfinder General /pfg/

Friendly reminder to tell us what 3pp your game allows if you need character building help.

What's the verdict on the new pact magic book by Augunas? Is it as "degenerate furry kitsune" edition as everyone says it is?

Yes, there's literally a pact that turns you into a voluptuous panther-person who submits sexually to only male authority figures.

It's awful, like the fuck were they actually thinking.

No, it's the "degenerate fetish-fuel magical realm that also includes a kitsune" edition, which is not better by any means.

I don't see what's degenerate about about the Lovecraft one in particular but why a fucking kitsune? What the fuck do kitsune have to do with anything non-Japanese, let alone Lovecraft?
>>
>>49286421
Also the ritual for binding it involves you getting sexed.

I mean, the Mother of Monsters' ritual also involves you getting sexed and jacks up the size of your sexual organs, but it doesn't turn you into a furry, so it's instantly far less objectionable.

Hell, it doesn't even require you to be female, that one, so it's Mpreg!
>>
>>49286444
Because Augunas's fetish is anthro foxes and he refuses to let it go. He's totally not a furry though.
>>
>>49286444
>What the fuck do kitsune have to do with anything non-Japanese, let alone Lovecraft?

The guy who wrote the book is a notorious furry who loves loves LOVES Kitsune.
>>
>>49286444
Didn't you hear? Kitsune are the source of all the mythos stories, despite it not making a fucking lick of sense.
>>
>>49286421
And one that's all about being an old lady that rapes little boys, and one that's all about the scat, and one...

It just went ON and ON and ON....

People crossed the magical realm, but at its very ends, they were warned by things far worse than the whizzard;
>No, anonymous friends. Do not go past this point, for there lies only depravity
>What depravity could you possibly speak of, magical realm
>and there, beyond the cliffs of what the fuck, beneath the bowels of FATAL, lay this book.
>>
>>49286458
>I mean, the Mother of Monsters' ritual also involves you getting sexed and jacks up the size of your sexual organs, but it doesn't turn you into a furry, so it's instantly far less objectionable.

Ear and tail fur are always in delightfully clean, conditioned, soft, untangled, and freshly scented condition. Thank you, Prestidigitation!

>non-arcane kitsune
Ear and tail fur get unkempt, matted, smelly, sweat-drenched, sticky, tangled, and dirty with just a few hours of adventuring.

Why would you ever settle for a non-arcane kitsune?

Hold up, is this from official Paizo material or is this from that new book that's getting posted in the threads? Because I thought the only rituals available to Lamashtu involved butchering people or willingly fucking a monster with the express purpose of getting impregnated.

None of that involved getting a floppy donkey dick.

This new book is abhorrent. The world is a worse place for it existing.

Think of any game in which turning into a big titted furry would work, like any game at all where this would be a thing that you could do on a regular basis without it negatively impacting the game.

If you can think of one, you are almost certainly the author of this book.
>>
>>49287372
Now see, big tittied furry is at least able to be looked past.

I mean your character could have been a big tittied furry beforehand, and it's mostly a visual aspect in a largely nonvisual medium.

I feel like Fey Barbadu or whatever his name is' personality influence is worse. It just turns you sex-crazed. That's action, not visual. Far more disruptive, I'd say.
>>
>>49287413
Ah, well the one that turns you into a voluptuous panther-girl also makes you want to fuck people. Just as long as they're men in power. You completely ignore women in power.

I agree with the latter, but the former I would counter with the fact that most centaur races aren't really built with the intent of being player races in the first place.

I have always enjoyed using them as NPC guides/recurring allies, though. It helps when there's a reasonable stat block to use, though would it be interesting to develop a centaur template?

Your DM hates you and is intentionally gimping you because a Paladin threatens his undead encounters.

A lance does not give a -4 off your horse, get a greatsword (or the first available skeleton sword) and go back in just to balk at the DM's next attempt at ruining you.

The lance shouldn't give -4 unless you aren't proficient with it, and paladins are proficient with all martial weapons. Get a greatsword if the GM pushes the -4 thing unless you're a girl.

As far as feats go, Power Attack is the only one you'll really need, maybe some of the mounted charge feats if your GM is going to stop being an asshat about a paladin in an undead dungeon.

Pact Magic and the whole binding etc thing is based loosely on Goetia, and every 3/4 of the Goetic demons are specifically noted to do things like 'make the woman fall in love or lust with you' so if you're gonna blame anyone, blame old Solomon or 14th century Italian occultists.

Skeletons' swords are actually going to be terrible, but anything that doesn't give you a -4 to hit because of a bad DM is better than your situation.

Greatswords are great because they have the biggest damage die of any easily available martial weapon (2d6), plus a 19-20 crit range and their status as two-handed weapons, which are objectively better than any other type of weapon except a bow because you add 1.5x your Str modifier on damage rolls with them.

Hi /pfg/, two quick questions. One, is there already an item that is basically a keyed Plane Shift to a specific plane? I know there are cubic gates, but I was thinking of something lower level and just for transporting the one person.

Two, I could have sworn I saw a spell in Ultimate Intrigue that basically let you talk at a table (like in a tavern) but your conversation wouldn't really be intelligible to people around you. It wouldn't be silenced, it would just be background noise they wouldn't try to focus in on. Am I misremembering, and if not does anyone know what the spell's name is?

There are LEVEL 9 spirits that do nothing but 1d6/binder level damage for major abilities!

I said fuck it and rebuilt the Medium to make it somewhat less useless. It gets 6-level casting, loses the stupid location channeling abilities, and gets a familiar. As well, some of its abilities are now less useless. Spacious Soul lets you channel TWO spirits at once, so you can totally channel both the Archmage and Hierophant spirits to get moar spells, or the Marshal and Trickster to get more skills, or even the Guardian and Champion to make the Fighter cry like an anime fan on prom night.

I might consider giving it some sort of Martial Flexibility-lite ability, letting it pick metamagic feats for the Archmage/Hierophant spirits, combat feats for the Marshal/Guardian, and... some other kind of feats for the Marshal/Trickster.

Something that makes good use of the Occult classes. Preferably set in a city that has brewing tensions between arcane and divine casters, but have psychic magic on the sidelines as an up and coming force, and have the overarching plot be about how theres gonna be a war between arcane and divine- but, drop hints that it's really a rogue psychic faction that's wanting to start this war so that they can take over. Maybe let the players be an investigative force composed of an Arcane caster, a divine caster, a psychic caster, and an alchemist for all the variety. Make it a murder mystery as the players try to figure out who is behind the increasingly-violent riots and attacks. Something like that.

>Sleep Arrows
doesn't work that way, senpai. You can cast curse-descriptor spells through spellstrike, but not outright Hexes. That said, hexcrafter and eldritch archer go together like cookies and milk already. Cursed arrows are pretty radical. However some curses (Ill Omen) take effect automatically, so attaching them to a ranged attack that might miss can actually be a step down. Same for Bestow Curse, which normally only requires a will save.

>>
>>49289830
Overwhelming Soul is the Kineticist CHA Archetype.

The one that "protects you from burn" by literally disallowing you from doing things that would take it, and giving you a weaker overflow replacement to go with it (since you have no burn).

So, you go from CON to CHA
You CANNOT accept burn and can only use abilities if you can, say, gather power to reduce their burn to 0
If you are FORCED to take burn by various factors or effects, you instead get negative levels
And you get +1/+1 damage to kinetic blast (but not blade forms, etc that don't apply the damage bonus of overflow) instead of the +1/+2.

It does nothing for your elemental defense either so that'll stay stuck at 0.
>>
>>49289830

>This archetype shields you from the accuracy penalty of power attack
>You are not allowed to take power attack, but in exchange you can't use combat expertise or things derived from it either

If you had a psychic armory player who invested in spawning tower shields, would you allow them to throw the shields down to provide cover to other people? Or just create walls to block spells and create choke points?
>>
>>49289970
I'd be very reluctant there, because the tower shields are almost certainly only replacing one or two of the weapon types, which means the PsyArmory is still working at full capacity, just now also providing cover.

Walls would fucking break things; control over Line of Effect and Line of Sight, especially once you throw in immediates, is the kind of total-battlefield-control shit we bitch about Tier1s doing with solid acid fogs and shit.

I'm going to retire my level 10 Sorcerer for an Arcane Trickster (we're playing Kingmaker and my Half-orc Sorcerer is approaching middle-age).

Unchained Rogue 1 / Wizard 5 / Arcane Trickster 4

The first one give me more Arcane Trickster good and probably let me use capstone ability by the time we reach the final boss.

The second one give me Fast Study and Aether Elemental as improved familiar choice.
>>
>>49289955
Omnikinesis doesn't work with it either but it doesn't get replaced.

Go look through the forums for the OA playtest thread, you can probably find large amounts of bitching about it being useless followed by no changes whatsoever.

You'll notice one or two idiots claiming that damphir kineticists have unlimited burn with overwhelming soul, but they're not reading it correctly: You CANNOT choose to accept burn, so you CAN'T use all those abilities "that become negative levels which you're immune to".

Plus, it's energy drain not negative levels (which you could get from an unfriendly alignment magic item for example) that they're protected from if I recall.

So the one "build" for OS is actually a bullshit lie. Anything OS can do, regular kineticist can do better.

Take that in for a second. "regular kineticist" can do better. That's like saying Core-Only-Monk is better in every way in comparison to some other class or archetype.

It's just THAT bad.

>It just seems like a normal kineticist could get the same effect (mostly not getting burnt), by not burning himself except for elemental overflow and filling internal buffer. Seriously, wouldn't the end result be basically the same? Overwhelming Soul seems to be less of an archetype that grants you abilities than one that just takes abilities away.

The answers to exactly that comment were pathetic. "If you love burn this is more of a niche archetype, for you". This shit was being sold on a "crossbows are simple weapons, silly" level of patronizing ignore-the-problem-and-pretend-its-something-else

Then, to make up for us fighting these fucking void monsters that deal damage to everything that they come into contact with, including us and our stuff, harness fully ignored, we were handed a soulknife archetype of our choice through story moments.

Trying to stat an npc that somehow manages to be relevant in combat while being 4 levels lower and also a mesmerist because of reasons.

I mean the gaze will be helpful for the casters in the party and doesn't require them doing anything. There are tricks that don't require saves, not a lot of them, but there are some.
Something like keep up the gaze and Compel Alacrity every turn sounds like the best they can do. Which is kind of sad.

1pp - 1st party publisher/published. Paizo shit.
gestalt - game where PCs level in two classes simultaneously
tristalt - three clases
mythic - basically just a higher powered game

On both ends, it has to be my ZweiSent Warder. Lockdown, the ability to defend myself or others, and a build properly set up to solo linnorms made the whole thing a blast.

Roleplaying-wise, she was sort of the party mom, always keeping an eye on her party members to make sure they were happy and healthy, and berating them when they did something stupid; not out of anger, but concern. It's not a position I'm in consistently, so it was interesting to try out. Think I might do it more in the future.
>>
>>49291682
Both mechanically and in roleplaying, its gotta be the Living Legend.
There's just so much stuff to roleplay, and its fun as fuck to play too.
>>
>>49291682
Fey Adept, with every single talent sunk into Illusions. Some of the funnest shit I've ever played.

(It's basically a Shadow Illusion specialist, for you non-spheres-users out there.)

Only time I've ever been able to laser focus a character and not have it bite me in the ass, because shadow illusions can do SO MUCH STUFF.

>oh no, we fell in a pit trap! let me give us ILLUSIONARY WINGS so we can just FLY out!

>oh shit a horde of orcs! ILLUSIONARY WALL!

>we need a spell I don't know and can't fake? let me just make an ILLUSIONARY SPELLCASTING COMPANION who DOES know it!
>>
>>49291682
Mechanically, my psyarm. It's just a really nicely developed class and a lot of fun to build. Too bad the one I got to play only lasted one session because the GM pulled the plug on the game after that.

Roleplaying, probably my huldra and her familiar. She's got a lot of WEIRD FEY BULLSHIT going on, but she's also found a group of weird-ass mortals she's happy to spend time with because they keep surprising her at every turn.
>>
>>49291740
I'm playing a Fey Adept also and I swear to god they didn't playtest anything about Create Reality, because the RAW is vague and the RAI is unclear, in so many places, about so many things. What caster level are the other sphere effects created at? How do Permanent Image and Create Reality interact?

Fun fact: by RAW, your illusionary conjuration companions are in fact fully sapient. You're creating and destroying minds every time you use it. Someone asked Meyers whether that was intended, and he called it an "edge case". Because a specifically-defined class feature of a core Spheres class is something they never thought people would use, apparently?
>>
>>49291682
Tech-Warsoul/Aegis. Firepower was blindly pursued and the charisma skills are horrible.
>>
>>49291682

Mechanically and roleplaywise it would have to be a longsword-focused ZweiSent played as an obsessive scholar consumed by his research into the occult.

Huh, well the demon eye stuff is alright I guess but that spirit imp looks really lackluster.
>>
>>49294977
You start by playing a regular Alchemist instead of a Metamorph.

Assuming base strength of 20,

Leveling (+5 normal)
Manual of Gains (+5 Inherent)
Strength Mutagen (+8 Alchemical)
Blood Rage (+10 Morale)
Monstrous Physique III (+6 Size)
Wondrous Item of Mighty Strength (+8 Enhancement)

So 62, plus another +6 (Profane) if your DM lets you make an Alchemical Simulacrum of Noticula for a Profane Ascension.
>>
>>49295050

Marvelous.
>>
>>49294977
I don't know. Off hand I'd maybe start with an Orc Crossblooded Bloodrager with the Abyssal and Draconic Bloodlines so you can go into Dragon Disciple.

At level 20 (16 levels of Bloodrager, 4 levels of Dragon Disciple) you could easily have a normal strength of 37 (start with 18 strength, +4 from being an Orc, +4 from four levels of Dragon Disciple, +6 from a belt of strength, +5 from stat boosts) and then increase your strength it by another 10 (thanks to your Abyssal bloodrage) while raging for a total of 47.

If you manage to gets manuals of strength boosting or wishes, you can increase your strength by another 5 points, so that would be a strength score of 52 while raging.

I'm sure there are tons of other ways to boost your strength even higher than that, but I can't be arsed to go look.
>>
>>49295050
Mighty strength belt only goes up to +6.
>>
>>49294977
I think you have to involve the Eldritch Heritage feat (and its line) with the Orc bloodline for sure, and almost certainly a Variant Multiclass as well. It's pretty limiting on your feats. VMC as Alchemist on a Barbarian chassis, or the other way around.

That circumvents the normal rules for enhancement bonuses to ability scores in magic items. Like a sword of True Strike or bracers of Mage Armor, that isn't allowed even by the loose, slutty item creation rules.
>>
>>49295169
It doesn't have to be a constantly-active item, just have it be command-activated for when you need to boost your strength from 56 to 62. That's what I did when I made this character.
>>
>>49295184
You could just use a Blood Reservoir of Physical Prowess for that.

I'm not generally a fan of the Mythic rules, but considering applying them to "boss" encounters to give them a better chance at surviving for a few rounds, or at least feeling like a threat to the party while they're alive. Is this a decent idea or are mythic enemies stupid?
>>
>>49291053
Both. They start as a challenge.
>>
>>49295214
Mythic stuff is generally not designed to interact with non-mythic stuff.
>>
>>49295207
Blood Reservoir is a +8 Inherent bonus that only lasts for 1 round, so it wouldn't stack with the Manual of Gainful Exercise. It's basically a second command word for a 1 round +3 bonus, whereas Mighty Strength is a minimum of 7 minutes after activation. I forgot about the reservoir though, so that would boost the total up to 65/71 for one round.
>>
>>49295214
Mythic rules can get stupid very fast. One step too far ahead and you'll wipe the party.
>>
>>49295249
Really? I recall that even mythic PCs were supposed to fight a lot of non-mythic stuff still, and lots of mythic powers have a note about how it interacts with non-mythic. Usually along the lines of not giving them a save.
>>
>>49295214

I'd advise against it, and instead recommend looking into the Two-tailed, Two-headed Bifurcated Snake for design ideas.
>>
>>49295275
I thin out friend phrased it poorly.

Mythic is not meant to interact with non-mythic in a healthy way. As in Mythic stuff tends to just laugh at non-mythic stuff while wiping the floor with it.

My WotR group is currently needing to go as far as APL +6 to actually find a challenge, and we're not even optimized.
>>
>>49295214
You're better off homebrewing than that. If a boss needs something, and it's a monster, give it to it. If it's a humanoid, THEN the PCs would care how they got it, because they can't. They won't bitch if an actual monster has unique abilities.
>>
>>49295269
>>49295316
Alright then, that's not the way I wanted to make things tougher, thanks.

>>49295286
Will do, though it feels like a very vidya solution.
>>
>>49295365
You can give a humanoid a ToB-like belt of access to a particular immediate action maneuver without being terrified of it falling into PC hands. Littering a campaign with those makes magic items a treat, a form of martial advancement, and can help introduce martial initiating to the game.
>>
>>49295262
>Manual of Gainful Exercise
But you cant rely on getting one, its not exactly common, and costs a MINIMUM of 26k to make, so you can't really dismiss the 1k reservoir becuase of the manual.
>>
>>49295214
Dual Initiative essentially doubles the number or actions a single monster can take. It essentially lessens the problems with having One Big Dumb Monster. Depending on the number of people in the party, you could even have more than one dude with Dual Initiative.

2-person party = 1 mob with Dual Initiative
3-person party = 2 mobs, one with Dual Initiative
4-person party = 2 mobs, both with Dual Initiative

And so on and so forth. Dual Initiative turns a monster into 1.5x a monster in essence.
>>
>>49295488
True, so the big nasty critter has two chances to get a decent init and go first, or at least might go again before the second or third PC kills it.
>>
>>49293915
The solution is simple

Murder the summoner
>>
>>49295488
There's lots of ways to fluff a monster with two initiatives in less handwavey fashion, too.

My favourite is having possession-oriented boss enemy with a big visible spectre hanging over it while it fights. The physical initiative is the only one that can move them though.

>Mortals somehow weirder than the huldra
How?
>>
>>49295374

Well, that's as may be, but it does help solo encounters. Put one creature in a room with the party, and nine times out of ten, the PCs will just dogpile them. Put "one" creature with multiple health pools and actions in the room, and suddenly it's fight.

>>49293288
Endless Chalk is actually pretty nice-looking.
>>
>>49288611
>Anajira
I'm almost certain that's a thing in CoC.
>>
>>49295127
Nope, we play it over IRC/Roll20.
>>
>>49295556
I know, I just wish there were better defenses, or at least fewer ways for PCs to laugh off AC, DR and other stuff like that.

I wish my players would give other systems a chance
>>
>>49295603
Well there is a super dominant pantherguy.

Except he only fucks you if you lose/accept it.

And I don't think it turns you into a voluptuous pantherwoman.

That point when a pathfinder book includes something more degenerate than CoC
>>
>>49295535
Can't do that, it's an online game, all I can do is send feelings of hatred over the pipes.

Their character is cool, the player is just insufferable.
>>
>>49295670

Why not

Kill their character?
>>
>>49295638

Never quite understood the opposition some people have to trying different games. My group's of the attitude that, if someone will put the effort into running it, we'll at least give it a shot. We've had some very fun campaigns and oneshots that way.
>>
>>49295688
The character is a pretty cool dude. The player is not.
>>
When i wildshape as a druid do I use my stats plus the bonuses or the animal/elementals/plants?
>>
>>49295739
At least in the case of my players it's because they love the "balance" that PF has. Oh, but if I throw in a stronger enemy then they all bitch because SR might actually make a wizard fail, or the guy that optimizes AC and damage have a hard time actually hitting while taking a few minor knocks himself!
>>
>>49295782
You use your stats modified by whatever spell wildshape is pretending to be when used.
>>
>>49295551
They're weird and interesting for mortals, not necessarily compared to fey.
>>
So one of my players wants to make a half giant, half Fae character so that he's Fae size but allowed to use weapons a giant could use.

How do I tell him to fuck off?
