On the subject of music, what do we know about music in TES? Music seems to have a certain relation to metaphysics, with tonal architecture, shouting, sword singing, the poison song and the doom drum.

Bretons are supposedly the best chefs and Imperials some of the worst. I would imagine the Khajiit make the best desserts.

Thanks for reminding me I still had to get my evening tea, I'm definitely comfy now.

What I love most about TES is how fleshed out the different cultures are. We usually talk about worship and politics, but my weak spots are architecture and cuisine. I was thinking of making a little compilation of cuisine lore.

In Elsweyr, everything is desserts. Ergo they're the best chefs.

>>49280707
I love lore on culture, and I'd like more stuff about music.

I'll repost something I've written before, based on Goodall's forum posts about Argonian and Khajiiti music.

>"I thought they should use the marsh itself as their primary musical instrument like the Baka Forest People use rivers. And play lots of odd percussion instruments like water drums and bohdans and djimbes and udus. And make slowed-down bird-call noises."

Nothing ever seems to have come from the idea, but I like it quite a bit.
Here's some assorted inspiration:
Baka people water drumming:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ba1CNOLiI

Then there's water drums, which come in a lot of different forms:
https://youtu.be/oun-u4myVUU?t=506

If "bohdan" is supposed to mean bodhrán, then that sounds like this:
https://youtu.be/dMI4X8OOMOg?t=10

The djembe, which is probably more well known:
https://youtu.be/W3tKFLafu3s?t=20

The Udu, an aeorphone:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpKo2YRKFYY

As for bird calls I don't fucking know. Go listen to some slowed down birds or something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj36koXYJLs

On the Khajiit there's less:
>"I wanted the Khajiit to be arrhythmic jazz musicians."

If you have any additions do tell me, I'm thinking of making a proper compilation.

>To not violate the Green Pact, Bosmer make alcoholic beverages from fermented pig milk (Jagga) and fermented meat juices (Rotmeth), both are very strong
>Torvali mead is a thing
>Khajiit use sweeteners of all kinds in their foods, not just moon sugar. Khajiiti meat tastes sweet as a result. (does Skyrim export honey to Elsweyr? It'd make a lot of sense)
>Juniper berries go well in mead
>Rat meat is palatable when used in a stew and masked with strong spices
>Canis root and trama root can be used in tea
>Merringar is a rare fish and a delicacy in Skyrim, only found far off the shore into the Sea of Ghosts
>Kollopi are an arboreal rodent in Valenwood whose meat is fashioned into little balls rich with spices and juices

That's as far as I can go from the top of my head, but I know I'm missing a lot.

They would go the way of the Ayleids. They would take refugee in other regions and disappear by assimilating with the other elves.
Some would be assimilated by the Direnni, other by the Chimer.
Maybe the Dunmer and Bretons would inherit some culture from the Falmer refugees.

While looking through the UESP's list of loading screens, I found two interesting ones.

I already knew Skyrim gave Solstheim to Morrowind, but the quote mentions Kyne instead of Kynareth, despite the fact that the Nordic pantheon was abolished long ago. Skyrim probably had a more traditionalist high king in the early 4th era.

And House Redoran has dethroned Hlaalu and Indoril for most powerful Great House.
>>
>>49281474
The Nordic Pantheon is still slightly relevant in TES V, you do hear Nords making offhand remarks towards those gods every now and then.
'Sons and Daughters of Kyne' is likely a long and widely used phrase of the Nords. One of the most essential beliefs of the Nords is that Kyne created man by exhaling on the peak of the Throat of the World.

You and me both.
Bethesda's decision to roll over the Nordic Pantheon was a very bad choice imo. Had they made it so that the Old Holds of the East were religiously Nordic while the West had adopted a more Imperial way of life, their would have been a lot more meaningful depth and sense of conflict present in the game. I mean, you'd think a group like the Stormcloaks would be pretty adamant about sticking to their roots.

>if they weren't blinded by the dwemer how different would Tamriel be?
Not very. Assuming the nords stopped caring a while after they went underground, they could come back up. And other than a few different areas in cities, or entirely new cities and villages, I doubt it'd be all that much different. I'd wager they'd get treated like the reach men do: they can exist, but as second class citizens. And of course they could leave skyrim for somewhere else, maybe high rock or northern cyrodiil.
That or they gain strength and pull an offensive so they can have some sovereignty, assuming the nords didn't wipe them out for real.
>>
>>49281890
>you'd think a group like the Stormcloaks would be pretty adamant about sticking to their roots.
Assuming they knew enough about them, but I think the it's more of a "why put time and energy during a war into something we've all kinda moved away from on our own, when the worship we still really want is the thing at stake" kinda deal.

>>
>>49289321
Is there a particular issue you're taking with them?
We already decided against dragonbreaking mostly, since it just gave a platform for shitposting and memes but not much lore.
We recently got new lore with the stone translation so there's still reason to have the threads.
If your issue is just the thread existing then I would point out the fact mods allow the thread since they haven't been deleted and have been weekly for a long while. I wasn't here at its creation so I don't have any source about mods directly saying it's okay.

They are off topic to the purpose of the board. Elder Scrolls is a video game.

>>49289368
The fact they're off topic and crowding the board isn't reason enough?
>>
>>49289399
>a couple threads during the weekend is crowding the board

fuck off.
>>
>>49289434
There's like, ten vidya threads currently shitting up the front page. You guys are shitting up the board with your off-topic threads and crowding out /tg/ content.
>>
>>49289399
Well first, they aren't crowding the board. They take up one thread and we usually wait until about page 8 to make a new one. Even then, they're weekend threads.
Second, we do have the uesrpg so we're not really offtopic, plus we've been allowed given we aren't deleted.

If you really feel we're off topic, the best I can tell you is to report and see if anything happens.
Nothing will happen, but I don't have mod authority or a source directly allowing us, so we're just at a standstill.
>>
>>49289447
>There's like, ten vidya threads currently shitting up the front page.
but there arent?
we're not "shitting up" tg by talking about lore, and we're not "crowding the board" by making a couple threads only on the weekend
this is the only place we can talk about lore without /v/ shitposts and /vg/ waifus
>>
>>49289489
While I agree with tgesg being here, I don't think "/v/ and /vg/ are shit" is really a valid argument.

can you elaborate on this:

The Falmer are descending mortality, making a 180 degree spin on the path of mortality, which is in fact an evolution of their original form and not a devolution like the Altmer thought. Thus, devolution brings you closer to leaving Mundus.
particularly the last bit
>>
>>49291223
It depends on the interpretation of how all the people of Mundus became what they are.

Altmer and Dwemer consider themselves to have devolved from their original form. If you consider mortal life to be an evolution then devolution might be the way back to whatever ethereal form men and mer used to take on.

Pretty much what the Godhead in real life Mysticism is.

Everything is the dream of one entities who might as well be called reality. Each of us are merely dotted perspectives of reality, much like if you were to take a bowl of light covered in a tarp. Poke a hole in it, and the light that streams out could be you, or your cat, or your table.

When you realize this, you begin to realize that you are merely the universe experiencing itself. In TES, one of two things can happen. The first is Zero-Summing, where when you realize that since nothing is real, you aren't real either. Since you are a perspective of reality, Reality realizes you aren't real, and you fade from existence like Back To The Future.

The second thing is CHIM, also known as the Psijjic Endeavor. It's when you realize the dream, but continue in a state of lucid dreaming nirvana-like godhood. Vivec has this, as does Talos. However, power is limited since too many changes could wake the Godhead up and end the Kalpa, or the current cycle of existence.
>>
>>49290075
I would assume it filters the ash.
>>
>>49293620

Speaking of CHIM can you explain the Six Walking Ways.
>>
>>49293684
The six paths to godhood.

There is the Prolix Towers, the towers the Mer built.

The Psijjic endeavor, or path of Veloth.

The Brass God of un-creation Numidium.

The Enantiomorph, which is mantling, like how Talos originally became a god.

CHIM, achieved through love. Famous people who have it are Vivec and Talos. Lesser known CHIMsters are Fargoth, Yngling Half-Troll, and Crassius Curio.

The sixth is the Scarab who transforms into the New Man.
>>

"Our hero quickly came to his senses once again after being attacked by 12 Guar, 7 Scribs and 29 Cliff Racers."

I never feel like wondering around in morrowind, the amount of aggressive wildlife and unexciting combat makes it feel like a chore.

For me, it was a destination that made a boring walk worth it. That and the fear of disease from a cliff racer, or entering a cave to find some monstrosity waiting to cleave me in half so it can skullfuck my corpse, and then there's me without having saved in 30 minutes. Ah morrowind, good times.

How do you play Morrowind? I just seem to run out of...dedication.

I play for a while, actually enjoy myself a bit, and then I stop for a while. When I pick it up again, I feel so disconnected I have to start over. And somehow I find it hard to make choices with factions, even though logically I know it doesn't matter that much whether I go temple or imperial cult.

I think it's said to be a charm used by sailors in TR, but for a real answer: We don't know.

I would assume that it's made from the carapace of an armored cephalopod native to The Azura Coast and around the Telvanni Isles.

So /tgesg/, tell me why you're not a Witch Hunter.
>able to stealthily kill from afar
>bind weapons to deal with supernatural enemies
>reflect and absorb magicka
>levitate into a good sniping position
>teleport out of bad situations
Even better if you're an Atronach.

Because I prefer to use ALL of the magic, in tandem with Light Armor and Short Blades, and a bit of some other skills.. If I need to snipe somebody, I'll use a ring of Wizard's Fire or something.
