Are summoned daemons counted as Fellow Warriors, Battle Brothers, Distrusted Allies or By the Emperor's Command?

Only mention I can find is if you use The Dark Brethren RoW on your primary detachment, Codex: Chaos Daemons are Battle Brothers. But without it, I can't find anything on what they count as. If they're By the Emperor's Command otherwise, is there any point to taking Daemons or summoning them? Seems like the benefits are not worth the problems.

So I just finished angel Exterminatus recently and I enjoyed it. It wasn't on par with Deliverance Lost, but it was fun. It did seem a little schizophrenically written though like the first half and the second were done in different sittings. I liked Kroeger as the gruff everymarine sort of warrior who was the audience surrogate, not big on the Khorne berserkering Kroeger by the end.

So my question is are Iron Warriors paranoid because it's written in their geneseed or something? Or does Perty just not instruct his commanders to not stab each other in the back?

Angel Exterminatus is my favorite book in the series, anon. Glad you enjoyed it.

Iron Warriors are paranoid mostly because of their actions throughout the Great Crusade where they would be expected to fight some ridiculously overpowered enemies compared to them, as well as being Space Great War/WWI.

Also because their commanders could be anything from Kroeger-everyman's marine, to the more often than not backstabbing and looking for a promotion marine.

Drop assault vanguard ROW, run lots of cheap assault marines backed up by nasty things in drop pods and fliers. You can get 1st turn deepstrike assault marines with 5+ cover or better with a dread drop pod nearby + only fire snapshots at them + fnp from a apothecary. Make sure you put them down with a bunch of other drop pod 1st turn units to ensure target saturation and then clean up turn 2. Kharybis and dreadclaws filled with your flavor of mean shit pair well with this.

Oh and tactical support squads with volkite + extra cc weapons in a pod have been absolute cheap workhorses for me recently. They will shred a unit the turn they come in and then help clean up or tac objectives.

So, before I go and start buying parts to turn Calth tactical marines into assault marines, I figure I'd ask how well they do, as to determine if I should make some just for the pleasure of modeling them or for also fielding them.

If they are recommended, what would be the advised squad size? 10 man minimum? 20 with an apothecary?

I run alpha legion and I generally have a fair amount of tacticals/other squads since I'm magnetizing my marines to make them more modular with weapon load outs to mainly save on money, but since assault marines use entirely different arms and its easier to just build them than giving them magnets for the arms and backpack, I figured I should ask on how people think of them before I order so I know if I should do it for pleasure of also fielding.

The IW sure has distinctions to recognize command officers, but they are there because they serve a purpose. If anything, the IW highlights would be utilitarian first and foremost, and decorative as a secondary trait, if any.

Yes but the power of 30k lists at higher points values becomes ever more apparent as the majority of Legions/factions have access to numerous force multiplying rules options. Primarchs with RoWs, Mechancium with Ordo Cybernetica/Ordo Reductor, Solar Auxilla with super heavy vehicles in the heavy support slot, Imperial Militia with Army wide Buffs for a flat cost alongside super heavy vehicles as heavy support.

30k represents the might of the Imperium while at the height of its power.

I've got about 30pts spare so there's room to add some stuff, this represents my collection but I haven't built any of the Marines yet so there's some flexibility there.

Praetors should almost always have a paragon blade, unless they're on a jetbike. You're gonne be torn to pieces by artillery/blasts/templates with all dem footsloggers. Consider bringing some apothecaries to improve your tac squads efficiency by about a third. Make your terminators your Praetors retinue to basically give them fearless through a banner, then equip them with Power/chainfists and maybe combiplas/meltas and deepstrike them in. Consider running one contemptor as a dual-kheres mortis dread, and one as a cortus with chain/regular fist with two gravguns. You'll be ripped a new one by any aircraft.
Artillery is fine. HBolters will always be worse than shit, Missiles will be similarly shit since unless you spot a predators rear they'll be nullified by pseudo-av15 which is everywhere. Consider bringing eight lascannons in a bunker with an ammo store for a ridiculously more effective unit, since both your heavy supports use sub-par weapons. The volkite is superior to HBs, the missiles will always be outclassed in everything they do by a different weapon, and 30k missile launchers look like ass.
SA, give your tank commander a regular Malcador with flare shield/demolisher/siege armour instead of a half-assed tank killer. The lasrifles kill about a single marine per turn of shooting, strongly consider getting a unit of veletarii in a demolisher dracosan instead. The only thing lasrifles do better is going to ground behind an aegis while holding an objective for that delicious cover save, which sounds like it could be replicated on your cover-heavy table.

It is an Assault Vehicle, yes, but you can only charge from it if it was already on the table, not when it arrives by Deep Strike.

Both 30k and 40k use the same ruleset (namely 40k 7th Edition), but they are distinct games with their own additional internal rules.

Think of 30k as the "historical" setting of 40k, it is played out in the past of the main setting, with its own unique differences as a result.
The main one being that the Space Marines were still organised into Legions, far larger organisations than 40Ks Chapters, each with their own Navy Fleets, Imperial Army support and so on.

There are Dark Angel books within this "historical" setting obviously, as the Dark Angels are one of the original Legions.
The question to you is then, do you want to read more detailed stories about the history of the Dark Angels, or prefer to keep to their "contemporary" stories.

Nah, 30k uses different armies as well as being more balanced due to the fact that there are only technically four armies.

Of course, it's also a lot more niche due to the fact that almost everything is Forgeworld stuff. Which is even more expensive than GW.

30k takes place during the Horus Heresy, the war that lasted 8 years and ruined the Imperium and the Emperor's dreams for Mankind and the Great Crusade.

For example, there are no Xenos armies in 30k due to it being centered on the Horus Heresy, which was about Man against Man, Legiones Astartes versus Legiones Astartes, Brother against Brother. Emperor against Sons.

Another thing to consider is that there are no Chaos armies with the exception of the Word Bearers, and the Chaos Daemons codex from 40k.

Word Bearers in 30k may summon, ally, and even become Daemons themselves, while still using the regular Legiones Astartes rulebook for 30k.

So you won't see Chaos-corrupted traitor marines, except for the Word Bearers.

Current 30k Dark Angels novels are:
Descent of Angels: loyalty and honour
Fallen Angels: deceit and betrayal
The Primarchs (4 short stories, 1 is about the Dark Angels)
Angels of Caliban: Emperors and Slaves

Not sure how good each of them are, but I enjoyed that short story, I haven't read the other 3.
