Ugh,disgusting.

I was kinda hoping this would be the last one.

I mean all the build up,all the important characters returning to life/dying,all the artifact weapons, all the ''you're the boss of all <your class> now!''.

The legion has decades of build up as the final foe.

Fuck ''the void lords'',they're literally some ''shit we need a bigger threat so we can keep churning out expacs'' bullshit.
>>
What do you suppose alternate Azeroth is like? Like from the WoD timeline.
>>
>>49246333
witnessed

We do know that we only deal with the avatar of sargeras this expansion and that the attack on argus is gonna be like 50 years in the future.

Which makes me hope that there will be a cut with the possibility of a wc4/wow2.
>>
>>49246431
Would half the player characters even be alive for that?
>>

Don't think about it.

If you think about it you start asking yourself questions such as ''did the legion, who exists outside of time, fail a million alternate timeline war of the ancients/hyjal invasions of Azeroth?did they succeed in some?If so why do they care about ours in specific? How the fuck can you wipe out all of existence if you can just keep spawning more and more alternate dimensions?''
>>
I don't get why people are so up in arms about there being things a level above the old gods.

Also, if it's established you have to be smart as balls to mage it up, how do ogres measure up?

>If Elune is a naaru, then nelf "paladins" would be knights of Elune, which would make for an even bigger story and gameplay segregation than tauren sunwalkers

As revealed in Legion, the Naaru are creations of Elune. So she's more like the creator of the Naaru rather than "just" one of them. She made the Prime Naaru, Xe'ra, and then all the other naaru were born from it.

What
>>
>>49247233

Well Tyrande already told Velen he was full of shit when he claimed Elune was a naaru, and the fan backlash against the idea made it easy for them to retcon it since pretty much nobody liked it to begin with.

>I was going through some ancient cosmology tomes when I stumbled upon a passage indicating that the prime naaru may have been created by Elune during the great ordering of Light and Shadow.

>If Elune did create Xe'ra, then it stands to reason that we could use the Tears of Elune to unlock the secrets of Light's Heart.

>literally the worst of the three choices
c'mon friend.
Sylvanas is Warchief because she's arguably stronger and definitely more experienced than Baine or Lor'Themar.
My money would be on mr.belfboi for bestleader, but it's important to consider (which apparently Blizz did not) that the Horde as a whole would be more likely to follow Baine. Y'know, since he's a true-blooded tauren.

I don't think the orcs would adapt well to being the pawns of a corpse.

>mfw Garrosh would've lead the horde to greatness against the Legion
>>
>>49249699
>Horde as a whole would be more likely to follow Baine.
I'm still wondering why they put Sylvanas in charge, then, since the Horde as a whole is sick of her shady ass.
>>
>>49249699
No, Sylvanas is warchief because Kosak can't stop masturbating to her. There is literally no good in-universe reason for it.
>>
>>49249699
>lead the horde to greatness
He's have thrown all his soldiers into a head on conflict that would grind them into mince meat, without actually inflicting significant losses to the Legion.

He was a hammer and nail sort of war leader: No subtlety, no foresight, just throwing bodies at it.

Which is great if he's got a strategic mind pointing him at the right targets to bum rush, but he's a shit general. Only succeeds through numbers and calling on the goblins' explosive fetish.
>>
>>49247072
That stuff isn't from WoD. The only place that stuff was talked about before Legion was the Chronicles books they started putting out not that long ago.
>>
>>49249773
>>49249778
Sylvanas is in charge because it's an easy way to keep the pants-on-head faction rivalry going. Vol'jin and Baine are too reasonable, especially with Anduin on the Alliance side.

But then again, pretty much ALL of the Legion lore is pants-on-head, so I'm not actually surprised in the slightest.

Without the Horde invasion or the Scourge to unify them, the human kingdoms have gradually gone from distrusting and avoiding each other to outright war.

King Arthas the Just of Lordaeron has bought a temporary alliance with Kul'tiras by marrying Admiral Jaina Proudmoore, and together they wage an increasingly bitter and costly war against Stormwind's aging king, Llane Wrynn, and his most renowned champion, General Varian Wrynn.

Stromgarde and Alterac shift their allegiances every few years as they try to find a balance between the two growing superpowers, while Ironforge and Quel'thalas have both closed their borders to human traders and diplomats entirely. Though travellers and explorers in the northeastern forests are still regularly turned back by stoic Elven rangers, those who have ventured near Dun Morogh or Loch Modan recently have reported only impassable walls enchanted with glowing runes with watchtowers that sit strangely silent and empty, and great plumes of fire and smoke rising from Blackrock Mountain in the distance.

Meanwhile rumours abound that Medivh, leader of the Kirin Tor and Guardian of Dalaran, has made some sort of arrangement with King Greymane of Gilneas and the two are delving into forbidden magics. Wild, feral creatures have been seen stalking the Gilnean hinterlands at night...

The last piece of lore regarding Elune is pure bullshit.

I know, since the nelves got into the story, she always had a thin background.

But putting her as super-entity, creator of naarus n' shit, in a setting where abrahamic-like gods/goddesses are non-existent is, imho, a fuckup to coherence.

To be fair, it's not just Kosak.

Sylvanas is way more popular than she ought to be.
>>

Lore-wise they already have them. The Priestesses of Elune were heavy-armored, moonsaber-mounted warrior-priestesses that used lance, warglaive and crossbows in addition to their divine powers.

Then Kosak got put in charge of WoW's lore, and his raging hate boner for every female warcraft character other than Sylvannas (for whom he has a regular boner) and gutted everything that made Night Elves interesting.

I mean its been made. Garrosh ignored his advisors because he was a racist and they didn't tell him what he wanted to hear, drank an Old One heart because he was a sucker, and the whole iron horde thing again showed that he was incapable of thinking about anything other than "I want to be in charge and fuck anything bigger than myself.". He was literally sitting on a plan to make an infinite fighting force that could possibly counter the Legion's numbers and sabotaged it because a dragon hurt his feelings.

He was absolutely right when he told Thrall he'd be a terrible boss and couldn't handle leading a multi-national organization like the Horde. Thrall's fatal flaw has always been an inability to find good lieutenants; for every Saurifang there's a Ragnar Earthfury and Thrall also had the whole, "Garrosh is a pure untainted orc and I'm super hard for them and their pure brown skin." thing that the game introduced for some goddamn reason.

anyway. tldr; Thrall made mistakes and should've owned up to them in the cinematic but Garrosh made fatal mistakes as Warchief from day one. He might've made a good one if given a decade to calm the fuck down before getting the big promotion but Deathwing happened.

>>

i think from how they put it when you drink the demon kool-aid you get a random variety of demon mutations, tzeentch style. most of them are useful though, such as scales for armor, and the spectral sight. demon soul is just another mutation.

I'm fairly certain that the little gnome fucker is a refugee from another world that the titans put mechagnomes onto and subsequently got Legioned.
He's just been hopping from world to world and decided to stay on azeroth while it keeps managing to hold off the Legion.
>>
>>49255180
The random DH you can sacrifice in the starter quest also has his soul remain conscious after death (he shows up in your class hall, and you can talk to him). However, unlike the player DH, he's not strong enough to return to his body and is now permanently stuck hanging in the Nether as an incorporeal soul.
>>
>>49256115
which is weird, considering that the reason for the sacrifice is that the portal needs to absorb more souls to function. A sacrificed DH should be absorbed just like the demons whose souls powered the first portal
>>
>>49255720
>Literally sitting on a plan to make an infinite army and sabotaged it because a dragon hurt his feelings.

That army wouldn't have fought the Legion. The quest itself where you go to find out what happen points to Kairoz being an Infinite Dragonflight agent, to the point where he literally shouts "I AM INFINITE!". Garrosh might as well have known Kairoz was up to shady shit and put him down fast.
>>
>>49256192
I thought the whole idea was to make a super army to counter the Legion? Like yeah he was real Infinite but was supposed to be a precursor to the bronzes losing it instead of a real member of the Infinite dragonflight. Maybe I need to do the quest again.

Either way went out like a bitch.

dungeons are for 5 people, raids are 10-40 depending on the expansion and raid

Okay, tell me about this Kosak guy.

I only started hearing the name after Legion hit, and the name drops more than Chris Metzen now

Now I didn't care much for Metzen and his green Jesus OC at all, but not everything thats bad taste in the older expansions can be pinned on him. So far all I can say this expansion is that Sylvanas just looks even more of an evil retard instead of a reasonable war chief. What with the whole trying to dominate the head Val'kyr and put her needs ahead of the Horde.
>>
>>49247121
FUCKING PROFLIGATES, REEEEEE.

Gordian or go home.
>>
>>49259065
Kodak is the lead writer for WoW. Sylvanas is his waifu so she has to always be the center of attention and can rarely lose. Also Warcraft 2 was his favorite in the series so the focus of the game has to be on the Horde/Alliance war and the Horde is always the bad guys.
>>
>>49259065
Let me ask you, why do you call Thrall "green jesus"? What has he done to earn that moniker?
>>
>>49259404
In Cata he had a fuck huge role, like becoming the new Aspect of the Earth to start. He pretty much was center stage the entire expansion, stealing the thunder from players and other NPCs. Add onto his sanctimonious attitude about cooperation (despite never having done anything to help foster it, compared to what pre-psycho Jaina has had to give up over the years)
>>
>>49259644
OK, so, pretty much all of that?

Kosak's fault, not Metzen's.

Kosak was lead writer for WoW from Cataclysm onwards. Anything shitty Thrall did from Cataclysm onwards was Kosak's decision
>>
>>49259644
>never having done anything to foster it
>what is "keeping the Orcs in line after getting them out of the camps so they didn't just start rampaging again"
>what is "making sure Grom made it to Mannonroth to kill him so they could be free of the blood rage"
>what is "giving her the benefit of the doubt when her troops started attacking the nascent Orgrimmar for no real reason"
>>
>>49259782
Warcraft 3 Thrall is a different beast from WoW Thrall.
>>
>>49259804
Warcraft 3 Thrall is pretty much identical to Vanilla WoW Thrall
>>
>>49259404
Deathwing, the dragon aspect of earth went crazy due to the old gods corruption.
So Thrall, who was a powerful shaman was chosen by the elements to fill that role instead.
>>
>>49259644
Honestly I'd have just flipped the aspects to mortals at the end of Cata then and there. None of them have done much since then except Ysera getting corrupted and dying, and "new aspects having to adjust to their new jobs." is a cooler storyline than "Thrall getting a promotion he does nothing with."
>>
>>49259857
What about the Warsong encroachment into Night Elf territory and their deforestation?
>>
>>49259986
Thrall repeating a mistake

He tends to do that a lot, especially when the Warsong were involved
>>
>>49260020
"Its okay they'll shape up this time just like Daddy Grom." he says, as everything burns behind him.

also, y'know, they needed the resources. The Night elves going "FUCK OFF OUR WOODS" is one of the more reasonable conflicts for the orcs, who's starting area is frigging desolate.
>>
>>49260115
There'd be less of a conflict if the Orcs would just learn how to build things out of stone.
Or even dig things out of stone.
>>
>>49260115
>FUCK OFF OUR WOODS

It's a bit more than that, since those are their sacred woods. Like actually sacred, not "sacred because we say so". And the mass deforestation is a big no no.

>Granny fucks young bull
>>
>>49255548
>Vol'jin wanted to be cremated so sylvie coulden't fuck his dead body

>>49259984
That's pretty much exactly what happened. The aspects sacrificed most of their power to empower the Dragon Soul and nuke Deathwing with it. Alexstraze, Ysera, and the the others are now just powerful dragons rather than full demigods, and Trall being the Earth-Warder just means he's a powerful shaman with lot of influence over elements, rather than a demigd who could rearrange continents to his will.

Also, a side effect of the whole thing was apparently turning all dragons sterile, because Blizzard decided to wipe out everything Knaak has written, including the entirity of the dragonflights.
>>
>>49260218

>>
>>49260319
Wait, the whole dragonflight thing was written by Knaak?
>>
>>49260660
Yeah, he basically made all the post WC2 dragonlore with Day of the Dragon. If I recall, he called up Chris Metzen and said he'd like to write a Warcraft novel, and Metzen was ecstatic because "Mr. Dragonlance" (Metzens words, not mine) wanted to play in Metzen's sandbox.

Jeff Grubb was the best writer Blizzard novel writer, between Liberty's Crusade and The Last Guardian. Mel Odom's The Black Road (Diablo) was also really good.

Alex even explicitly says after the Deathwing fight that Azeroth now lives in the "age of mortals," and that it falls upon the mortal champions of the realm to protect the planet.

Which is a very elegant way of saying "Azeroth is not our problem anymore, so we're just gonna fuck off and let you fix everything from now on. You got the track record for it."
>>
>>49260866
That Deathwing thing probably could've been solved a lot simpler
>>
>>49260919
Well, apparently the reason Neltharion got corrupted by the Old Gods in the first place was that they promised him Alex and Ysera as sex slaves.
>>
>>49260319
The problem with how the whole thing was written is that it makes the dragonflights a self-fulfilling prophesy

The dragonflights were created to fight some vague evil, then the vague evil turned out to be deathwing, who only became the vague evil because he was the earth warder

Which is a giant cop out to avoid ever having to worry about the dragonflights ever again
>>
>>49260996
I thought they were created by the Titans to help order and safeguard the world, which each Aspect given control over some particular force they would manage (Malygos in charge of magic, Nozdormu making sure some chucklefucks don't mess with the timeline and cause something like WoD to happen, etc.). Unfortunately Neltharion's post as the Aspect of Earth made him to come into contact with the Old Gods (who were locked deep under ground), who promiced him all the sweet dragonpussy he'd want if he'd betray his fellows and blow up the world.
>>
>>49260979
Can we just agree that the Titans were not clever?

>Gee, let's put one of our most powerful lieutenants right next to the prison of our eldritch enemies, despite the fact that if we die or something nobody will be able to cure the insanity their whispers will inevitably cause!
>That's a great idea, Aman'thul! I'll let Khaz'goroth, Eonar, and Norgannon know right away! Also I haven't heard from Sargeras since you guys yelled at him for killing those other abominations and our unborn sibling. Anyone know where he is? I'm kind of worried.
>Nope! But who cares? I'm sure he's not recruiting an army of demons so he can do his "kill everything" idea all by himself, starting with us!
>>
>>49261069
It's exactly as you say. The dragonflights were Titan-appointed caertakers of the core facets of existance on Azeroth: Life (red), Nature (green), Magic (blue), Time (bronze), and Earth (black).
>>

>>

Never mentioned in the lore, although considering he did canonically have hots for her, I wouldn't be surprised.

After the orcs got their hands on the Dragonsoul and used it to control the dragons, they forced Alexstraza's consort to fuck her nonstop in order to pump out an army of dragon-mounts.

Deathwing's consort was in Cho'gall's raid, yeah, as a heroic boss.

Yes, Sinestra. Who I believe is also the black dragon who shows up in TBC during the nether drake questline, getting some nether drake eggs from the fel orcs (apparently those were used in the experiments that eevntually led to the creation of the twilight dragons). Although back then she had the exact same model as Onyxia, while in Cataclysm she's using a heavily reskinned Kil'jaeden model.

Deathwing's about 20 times her size and made of lava, so it's hardly surprising she got scarred pretty badly. Alexstraza at leats is closer to his size, and as the aspect of life is demonstrated to have healing powers.
>>
>>49262008

Nomi is an adult, but Li Li is still a kid but sounds older.

So how do pandaren age? Do the males mature faster than the females?

Honestly that's what I liked the most about the original Forsaken pitch, that they were undead trying to make a new life for themselves and make up for what happened.

Then Sylvanis went off the deep end and everyone went gleefully off with her.

He's the guy that worgen like to blame for losing their city to Sylvanas. Sylvanas being his waifu and getting all of the attention is a meme. It ignores the fact that she literally did nothing until now since Cataclysm, and everytime she's done something, she gets smacked in the dick.

Pretty much, he's the new guy people blame when things don't go their way.

Seriously, where the FUCK did this belief come from? Sylvanas has done almost nothing onscreen but fail and lose. Arthas invades Quel'thalas? She loses and gets raped? She tries to get vengeance on him? Kel'thuzad shows up and she gets btfo. She tries a second time to get vengeance on Arthas? She gets btfo again and loses the Undercity to a coup. She doesn't get it back until the rest of the Horde helps. She tries to end her suffering and kills herself? Literally lands in hell. She tries to take Gilneas? She wins, but the city is unihabitable, she gets her brains blown out and loses 3 val'kyr. She tries to assassinate Garrosh? Vareesa backs out and then we get WoD. She helps lead the invasion at BS? Literally they are overrun and she's forced to sound the retreat. She tries to get more valks? Genn shows up and utterly wrecks her plans.

Literally, where the fuck did this "she never loses" meme come from?

This thread is filled with Alliance babies that are tired of their leaders being fags. Now they got Genn as a reasonably based character so they must suck his dick as hard as possible before he dies from black arrow. In order to do that they must shit on Sylvanas.

It's okay, we understand tfw too poor to buy faction change.

You mean she and the rest of the Horde? That wasn't a Sylvanas victory. She played support that entire raid.

And I never said she "wasn't that bad." I just said that saying she never loses is actually factually false.

And I'm glad that she has SOME victories, otherwise why would the Forsaken follow her?

So what I've gathered from this conversation is about half the time she wins and half the time she loses. Oh, and that Allys are still irrationally buttmad about her existence. Stop playing right into Blizzard's hands. This is exactly the kind of conflict they want, because it further invests people into their game. Why do you think they intentionally made Sylvanas such a controversial character and are now capitalizing on it? She perpetuates the faction conflict both in and out of game. So does Genn.

Maybe if the two of them just got all of their hatred out by fucking each other, we'd finally have peace.

It leaves everybody unhappy. If nobody is actually getting what they want, then you've clearly failed
>>
>>49277607

>>
>>49277806

>>
>>49277806
They threw Vol'jin away instead of even attempting to do anything with him. The Legion has spaceships now and apparently could have invaded pretty much any time but didn't for because. Sylvanas is getting even more stuff just handed to her on a silver platter. And they completely backflipped on Illidan, going from "He's crazy and evil" to "he can literally do no wrong and was always right and everybody should love him forever", instead of even trying to aim for a middle ground with the character.

Then again, it's not like the setting is remotely fixable anyway. Cairne is dead, Jaina is mad and the whole "warchief Garrosh" thing actually happened and is unlikely to be retconned away any time soon, so I have no idea why anyone even gives a shit about current Warcraft lore anymore
>>
>>49277866
If I weren't on my phone, I'd give you a long well thought out reply. But for now, let's agree to disagree.

Overall, I think your comment is a massive hyperbole and oversimplification of facts.
>>
>>49277991
Of course it's an oversimplification, but the point remains that from a writing standpoint, this is poor work.

Warcraft bothers me because it could have great lore, but it just doesn't because the lead writer is terrible at his job
>>
>>49278016
this is what the purpose of the threads were, to flesh out details using the rpg and game cues and headcanon. anyone remember the quest about Alterac?
>>
>>49278016
Like I said, agree to disagree. I don't think the writing is poor relative to its medium. I don't think it's fantastic, but I think it is passable to good. And I don't think the lead writer has as much sway as he like to say he does. He has to answer to a lot of people, and then work between those lines. It's not as though he's cackling madly like an evil mastermind while wrecking our toy collection.

Then what do these "everybody" want? Over and over again I see this ridiculous red vs blue wankery of either who got shoah'd the worse or bitching on whose leaders are more bullshit. It's scarcity mindset driven nonsense that gets nowhere and indeed pleases nobody, and it's just the red vs blue champion's fault, because in order to be satisfied, the other side needs to get the shaft. This, in turn, makes said side buttmad, so they demand that the shaft changes rectums so that they "finally get something".

It's shit like this that I am only interested in neutral factions and why I'd play on a neutral side if I could in a heartbeat. Your conflict is fucking retarded, there's a world to save.

>spaceships
Real hard to teleport around and levitate a giant stone slab that shoots at things.
>apparently could have invaded pretty much any time but didn't for because
Did you pay any attention whatsoever? The Legion is invading all over Azeroth because Gul'dan tore open the Tomb of Sargeras, which is the whole reason Dalaran is in Broken Isles and Khadgar sends you across the whole place to look for the Pillars of Creation, the seals to the bloody tomb that Gul'dan plucked out.
>Sylvanas is getting even more stuff just handed to her on a silver platter
She gets rekt as soon as she thinks she got what she was looking for, then currently spends her time being buttmad at worgen. Truly a silver platter.
>And they completely backflipped on Illidan, going from "He's crazy and evil" to "he can literally do no wrong and was always right and everybody should love him forever", instead of even trying to aim for a middle ground with the character.
No, it was TBC that turned him into a crazed loot pinata. Just going in there and killing off Illidan never made sense to me. Of course, you're also employing so much hyperbole it is a wonder you can even think straight.

They literally did turn him into a chosen one savior of the universe. I agree that Illidan was very poorly handled in TBC, but before that he was still very mcuh an antihero, while Legion paints him as some kind of half-demon Jesus.

Other than messiah-Illidan, I actually like most of Legion's lore, though. For most part it's interesting and not pants-on-head retarded.

>from "He's crazy and evil" to "he can literally do no wrong and was always right and everybody should love him forever", instead of even trying to aim for a middle ground with the character.

Illidan being crazy and evil was a huge backflip from his character in the first place though. Legion is more of a return to form than anything.

thats entirely the point of the illidan book.

It whitewashes his so much he turns translucent. You see the dark portal where alliance and horde forces hold back an army of demons, Apparently they would have destroyed the azeroth invasion force if illidan hadn't destroyed another army threatening their flank, disregarding the fact that beacheads don't have flanks.

All the time he was moping around in Black temple looking at gul'dan's skull and destroying karabor?

Apparently he was training an army of demon hunters to destroy the legion in one swoop, and was going to return it to the broken

Kael'thas leaves illidan because he does nothing but mope all day? Illidan had a power source full of unlimited power that he was going to give to Kael'thas.
