Anyone know if they talked about alternate weapons for the Macrocarid Explorator? Irad Engines seem like the most hyped option so it's nice to see them, but the main appeal of the unit is that you can configure it in a ton of different ways. I know "optional weapons" and "FW kits" usually don't go hand in hand without buying them separately but it would be interesting to know.

It's also a little weird they stuck the sponson weapons between the hull and the tracks since it means they're basically hull-mounted for anything that isn't a torrent weapon already. It really limits how effective it can be at aiming at stuff.

So... any guesses as to what the rules will be like for these guys? They look kinda like a 30k take on the Skitarii Arc Rifles, and if 30k has done anything it's take specialist rifles and give them to entire units.

If nothing else it would be a nice way to get lots of pseudo Arc Rifle bits since if you want to deck your army out with them it's kind of a pain in the butt how few you actually get in the kits. Granted, drop pod Skitarii is dead now, so I'm not sure it's worth it either way.

My GW has a set of rules, every model must at least be paint with three colors, doesnt matter what or how just be painted. I assume its the same on all GW shops and while its not actually enforced but it is there to encourage you to paint and help advertise the hobby.

Salamanders are uncommon and quite good, though mostly for their special units. Night Lords are the most common of the ones you listed, then Alpha Legion. That shouldn't bother you, but you did ask.

With Thousand Sons it's hard to say because they're likely to take off when the next book comes out - especially if it's true that GW is going to give them the plastic treatment.

They won't be T4 if they're based on Skitarii. The only things that are T4 in Mechanicum are Magos, Tech-Priests are all T3, and T5+ is either Thallax or Archmagos or automata. I also doubt they'll have an armor save better than 4+, so even if they have a good invuln it'll be all they've got going for them.

Best they can hope for is good firepower, really, similar to how Skitarii are.

Right, but those are are Servo-Automata, not people. Servo-Automata are also different that servitors in that they're not really organic cogitators like 40k servitors are. Anything that's mostly fleshy bits in the Mechanicum army list is T3. Anything that's T5 or higher is either a robot or a brain, heart and a pair of lungs inside a robot. Tanks and artillery. You get four slots, Krios can be taken in squadrons, and artillery tanks can be given machine spirits (for split firing and pseudo-fast). So, a mix of Krios, Krios Venator and whatever artillery you want to fill the gaps between them. The Krios and Krios Venator are some of the best tanks in all of Horus Heresy and Ordo Reductor get to spam them.

Also remember that your tanks count as scoring units in the enemy deployment zone which is useful for a bunch of the HH core missions. Push your tanks into their shit while using infantry to hold your shit.

Psychic phase has become just as bad as 2nd edition Dark Millennium. Needs to be slimmed down in a lot of ways.

Presently all gameplay is based around deep strikes. If you picked a faction that can't deep strike, tough luck. Those factions were only viable when you were allowed to ally in some drop pods.

The rules for assault make assault worthless. You can deep strike and shoot without getting shot at. You can't assault out of most vehicles. Assault troops have no viable options for getting close to the enemy, so you use deep strike to point guns in the enemy's face instead.

Current template rules make horde armies unusable. An army that's just 10 giant robots is a more solid army than any horde, especially if those robots aren't counted as vehicles.

They're very inconsistent about it. Orks had been fighting Eldar, Squats and advanced humans right through the Dark Age of Technology and the Age of Strife, so had many tens of thousands if not millions of years of experience with hi-tech enemies. Even ignoring the Eldar, humans had both dreadnoughts and titans in the Dark Age of Technology (circa 20,000 AD), plus all the technology that implies. Also humans had lots of technology during the Dark Age of Technology that was lost during the Age of Strife and only rediscovered during the Great Crusade if at all, including basic flight and most anti-grav (in fact, most grav) tech.

Orks have at least as many enemies in the current millennium, plus they routinely fight each other, so there's no particular reason that Orks should be any different now to then. While it's a documented (if very old) fact that Orks didn't invent Gargants until after the end of the Heresy, there's no particular reason why they didn't invent them earlier (such inventions are spontaneous to Orks), and it's also well-known that all kinds of knight/titan-sized war machines (such as Stompas) were being made for tens of thousands of years before then.

There have been references to Orks who "stood taller than Dreadnoughts" and that there were Orks that "were capabale of shrugging off heavy weapons fire as if it were rain." Exactly how different this is from 40k is not obvious. Ork models range in size wildly and have been growing steadily for 30 years. Ghazgkull's 3rd Edition model is almost as tall as a dreadnought (they only talk of height, not bulk). A 6+ Feel No Pain save is enough for an Ork to theoretically "shrug off" a Plasma Cannon blast. And so on.

Orks ruled more worlds and possibly more area of space before the Great Crusade. The Eldar suggest (predictable) that they had always kept them in check before the fall; Squat history disagrees with this but it isn't clear if that is still valid.

Really, the main thing I like about him is that he has a cybertheurgy power than can affect an entire unit. If we could still use the Cortica Primus on a normal Archmagos Dominus outside campaigns I'd just use that instead. All I'm doing with Scoria is sticking him with five Castellax with Power Blades and making a 990-point I5 death star. I kind of doubt it'll actually be good at all since it's rather slow and in most cases the enemy can just avoid it.

Yeah, it's been talked about a lot in the previous threads. The changes are a bit weird but also interesting in some ways.

Stubborn is a straight downgrade from Fearless, but Fearless on a stock unit with no special characters was a bit weird. I don't think many people even used Fearless to begin with so it hardly matters as no one is going to use this either.

WS5 is vastly better than Furious Charge, and makes them actually quite good as an assault unit. Of all the changes this was the only one that not only seems like an improvement but is actually a good idea.

+1 on AP rolls is a lot worse than Tank Hunters, but it may still have some value. It's a little weird since it's +1 to the actual roll to penetrate, not the vehicle damage table. That means that it's effectively doing things like turning your missile launchers into S9, Plasma Guns into S8 and your Heavy Bolters into S6 if they're firing at vehicles. Re-rolling would still be better, but since you can get Tank Hunters conferred to the unit by other means it may end up having some interesting synergies. Granted, you only get one heavy/special weapon per five marines, so it's probably not worth it regardless.

Sniper was already the most common setup for Veteran Tactical squads by far, and now it also has Outflank? What the fuck? The most all-around solid choice just got even better.

Last option straight up just is the same as Monster Hunter. Why isn't it just the USR? Confusing, but whatever, doesn't matter.
