Dark Mechanicum time? Sub-Edition
In the last thread we saw one Anon's attempt at painting, we educated a 40k player wanting to get into 30k, Mastodons are hard to build, the RSs are getting transfer sheets, IWfags can get very hungry, Magnus's local toaster molesters' color scheme is now known, Inferno has been delayed, and we saw pics from Opening Day plus much more in the last thread >>48314792

Repostan, might work for mechanicum bases or too elfy?
>>
>>48322816
because the HH series is a cashcow they plan on milking for at least 10 more years

then we get the scouring , which will probably be even better 2bh
>>
>>48322305
The runes aren't necessarily elvish, so that could be an option, certainly. You may want to add some more Egyptian iconography in addition though, but they are gorgeous bases.

I'm using their "Meteor" style bases, wanted to create a more void-warfare styled AL list, as if they're attacking a moon or asteroid.
>>
>>48322876
Quite elfy. Which is good, meaning your bots killed those elves.
>>
>>48322876
They look great, with a different paintjob those can easily look less elfy and more warpy.

custodes will get fancy bolterhalberds.

also it shouldve been pretty obvious that their armor would be very different looking, they might even be taller than marines. its basically just FW saying 'no random open day, retard you cant convert a calth marine into custodes'

i want to see their rules
>>
>>48322763
How can you have power armor and bolters unlike any other?
>>
>>48322991
>custodes will get fancy bolterhalberds
This can only mean their bolters will be Assault 2 weapons.
I think they'll have Auric armour (be wounded on no better than a 3+) and their bolters will be Rending like Dorn's.
Also WS/BS5
>>
>>48323072
Custodes will have 2+/2++
>>
>>48322991
They will probably be stupid expensive, think mini independent characters. Wouldn't be surprised if they where 30-40 ppm
>>
>>48323088
yeah i agree with all of that. theyll probably have 3 attacks base, since the weapon is 2 handed. 2 wounds, 2+4++. and FW will probably end up giving them ap2 at i5 or something crazy since FW wants to sell kits

>2+4++
Nah. Almost certainly universal 2+ but invul saves would likely be upgrades capped at 5+ outside of terminators and characters.
>>

>That makes sense . But will their better Cataphractii have 3++? Or some way of getting squads with 3++ the same Saladmancers and Fist do?
Shields? Makes sense for the guards of the emperor to have access to shields. What I would like to see more than anything though is tons of wargear options and individual customizability.

>Can give any individual model invul saves
>Can give any individual model better weapons
>Can give any individual model guns
So if you had say a unit of 10 you could say get 3 dudes with a 3++ and throw them in front to absorb fire, give 5 dudes better melee weapons, and give the champion the best of everything for challenges.

After all custodes were much more custom built than marines.
>>
>>48322690
Nobody cared who I was until I started handing out +1Str
>>
>>48323386
I'm not sure about shields for custodes. Custodes fight alone rather than with their comrades, so they wouldn't exactly be forming shieldwalls. If they do get them I'd think it'd be more like a personal buckler than the big slab shields the astartes use.
>>
>>48323391
It's actually quite amazing how little people have taken note of chainaxes as long as 30k has been a thing. I can't think of a single time anyone has even mentioned them until this book came out.

I think the idea is so they can protect the emperor from enemy fire, so if a bunch of xenos or something started shooting at him during the early crusade they could form a wall to protect him.
>>

Hey, we fixed the embarrassing "trained xenos predator breasts"! It wasn't Freudian or anything!

No, we didn't bother fixing that the Auxilia Grenadiers have to swap the lascarbines that they don't have for their upgrade options (including swapping them for the very same lascarbines at a cost of +10 points), but at least it was in a critical crunch section instead of a harmless fluff section!

To be a Space Wolf is to live in misery. Let us remember:

Sent to Prospero with almost their entire legion's strength.
Aided by a Sons of Horus detachment.
Aided by Mars itself.
Aided by Legio Titanicus.

Still got their shit positively wrecked and lost more than half their numbers.
Then got their shit kicked in by the Alpha Legion.
Then returned to Terra to mop in a corner.

Truly, there is no fate more ignoble than that of a Space Wolf.

Well in 40k I play Deldar/Harlies because I love weird scary things. Don't really know ALL of the fluff 30k has but my opinions so far as a newbie:

Death guard: "Nurgle marines" so... meh, seems dull.
Night lords: snobby emo shit heads with a lightning fetish and a self harming pro march

Ultra: EVERYTHING I hate about 40k marines, in 30k. MUH SUPERIOR TACTICS. MULTIPLE SIMULTANEOUS DEVASTATING DEFENSIVE DEEP STRIKES. Seriously fuck these guys.

Iron hands: GW's naming Jesus Christ. They're alright I guess, seem a bit too TEACH for me.

World Eaters: eh. I don't dislike them but don't like them. Angry mad people are cool, if stereotypical.

Emp. Children: martial obsessives, kinda cooler, hate their gay colour scheme though.

>>
>>48323989
They're very expensive and no more resilient than assault marines. Offensively their shooting is about twice as effective though, including overwatch, due to the double pistols.

They're too expensive to use just like an assault marine squad, and too short-ranged (even with 12" movement) to keep away from they enemy. So you have to take advantage of them for precise strikes against targets that really can't afford to have to deal with them - in essence they're an assassin unit, or possibly a thorn-in-the-side that you harass with.

Also most people seem to use them as a bodyguard option for the Moritat - they do this well, but now your problem is that you've combined two expensive fragile units together...

Honestly, people take them because they're cool. But with the drop in points for assault marines, I doubt they'll be nearly as common as they were. Still, I'm not saying they need a points drop - they ARE nasty. They're just something that needs very careful use.

Aye. 30k Ultras are sort of like 40k Admech, in that if you ask them to come up with something new, or if something comes up that they didn't expect to happen, they'll start spazzing out like an autist rather than instantly pulling out a backup plan that they just happened to have out of nowhere.

Rules already work for Great Crusade, hence Fulgrim having rules for the sword Ferrus made despite the fact that he ditched it for the Laer blade well before the Heresy.

Also if Fulgrim used his own hammer he would be capable of going toe to toe with Horus.

Don't expect divergence between Traitor and Loyalist AdMech until siege of terra at least as standard units lists go.

IM will be expanded on eventually, alongside Solar Auxilia but this will be after prospero (which, at earliest will be before christmas, certainly before fires of Cyriasxus)
didn't get to snap a photo of it (I was literally talking to Luke when he showed it, would of been obnoxious seemed like a cool dude) but Triaros will be in 40k - however the volkite chargers are swapped for Arc rifles.

The Acastus keeps getting buffer - it seemed to have fucking lascannons as tertiary weapons (at least, the resin model on the spinner).
New knights look rad. Stuart (designed most of the main line admech stuff) seemed like a cool dude. I didn't ask Bligh (directly) what units we can expect to find missing 40k. I did listen to other people (Automata are in as Relics that the Mechanicus has no idea how they work - they exist still because they were built to last). He mentioned elements that were hard to control were removed and some technologies deliberately destroyed in order to centralise power towards mars; hence Myrmidons, at least in the form of "Gun-Cult", are no longer a thing (I suspect they'll have expanded equipment for Magos's but I didnt think to ask that) - compare medieval England to Tudor England, he literally said.

Expect to see Cataphractii assault cannons
Asked Bligh what the process for making a unit is. Basically either fluff sets itself up that a unit like this can be tangible, or the designers make something rad-enough that they just have to give it rules - crunch is the last thing. However the designers may certainly feel (i'm projecting like fuck here) like "X faction has this - surely Y has an equivilant?" , hence the Acastus keeps getting bigger each time it goes to Grandmas.

Thudd-Guns have pinning - literally from Alan Blighs mouth that because they have rules that explicitly refer to pinning, they have pinning as an extension.

Make it a regal purple like it is supposed to be. Sure as hell beats a constant sea of black, red, and grey or light blue. Alpha Legion has a cool colour scheme.

Also look through the books, they have plenty of modified schemes and notes on specific units (destroyers have armour that is often charred black, palatines paint their breastplate and left arm and shoulder silver).
>>
>>48325396
That's what was thought, but it turns out they actually do produce their own venom. That would probably interest the AL more than DG actually.
>>
>>48324894
The argument is that models, which have to pay for chainswords, get chainaxes for free.

Some just can't get their head around the idea that an unquestionably superior choice can cost less than a strictly inferior choice. They assume by default, therefore, that it must be a mistake (because, you know, a superior choice costing exactly the same as an inferior choice is perfectly sensible).

The wording is unambiguous, especially in the context of all of the reprints and the other legion special rules that clarify when and how much you must pay for an upgrade. It's the principle that people seem to have a problem with; as if GW/Forge World had never dared to write rules that made superior options cheaper than inferior ones before (hey Plague Hulk!).

I wonder why everyone defends the Ultramarines in 30k, saying they're not awful "yet", but Inferno isn't even out and everyone still hates on the Space Wolves SO MUCH.

Like, I suggested once that the 30k Ultramarines probably weren't as good as 40k Ultramarines think they were; probably when Roboute founded the Adeptus Terra after the Heresy, he modified all the records ascribed to the traitors and the two missing legions as being Ultramarines achievements, since he had the biggest legion with the most successors by far and hardly any veterans were still alive to contradict him anymore except the few remaining loyal Primarchs that he'd already gotten under his thumb with threats of "adopt the codex or you will be responsible for another civil war".

Man, everyone raged so hard at the mere idea of it. But with the Wolves we already have non-stop wolfywolfmcwolf and so on everywhere.

Tried not to ask question I sense were asked tonnes of times but I really got the impression the rules would come with the model and it wouldn't be too long - pressures on now (like the Domitars) to get it out, so maybe like 2-3 weeks? the week following an event usually has no major releases.

Interestingly, the addition of the Krios and Triaros, with the tone he said it, made it out like it was almost a concession forced by hordes of (rightly) pissed MecHeads who don't get to use huge chunks of their 30k collections - Myridoms are the last line - as the "fuck squad" you see in 30k anyway.

EC were a fairly large legion, not UM sized but fairly large because Fulgrim was the best organizational genius among the primarchs. However they lost more marines (mostly because they sent lots of marines on the first wave who probably would have sided with Fulgrim) than anyone else at Isstvan III. But since destroyers would have likely been rejects it seems likely that many would have been sent to die on Isstvan III. So my guess it.

>Before Fulgrim was found
Like 10 dudes if that
>Just before Isstvan III
Probably like 1,000

The Legion never recovered from this incident, and thus were always among the smallest of the Legio Astartes despite imperfect replacement methods being used, such as salvaging Progenoid Glands from its dead warriors. While other legions such as the Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, and Luna Wolves all exceeded the 100,000 mark, the III Legion numbered only in the hundreds

The political possibilities intrigue me, is all. But I can't even mention it without everyone jumping to the worst possible conclusion, as you have just demonstrated.

>>48325736
It's not like only 40k Ultramarines players play 30k Ultramarines, or only 40k Chaos Space Marines players play 30k Emperor's Children, or even like 40k Raven Guard players play 30k Raven Guard. Many 30k players specifically want to play something different to what they play in 40k.

I would doubt that even half the 40k Space Wolf players who decide to play 30k (properly) will play Space Wolves in 30k.

But if 30k Space Wolves get so much hate in a 30k thread, who is ever going to want to play the only good version (if Forgeworld can pull it off) of the Space Wolves?
>>
>>48325796
If the rumors do come to pass then I wouldnt be mad because thats exactly what Im doing and if they are true then Alphy+Dorn being delayed to shit is probably because of them getting plastic models "soon".

I hope they dont because it sounds awful though I do like the idea of there being 2 rule sets, this game needs to be streamlined a bit, 30k already does it and it plays miles better than 40k's apocalypse.

But Fulgrim originally calibrated the hammer for his own use – surely he knows how to use it, in fact even better than Frankus.
>>
>>48325553
The DG use them fine, the WB and SW have special unit versions, we know the Ultras use them (the 22nd chapter, the nemesis chapter), pre-Corax RG used them and the DA's Dreadwing had lots of Destroyers

Those are the only legions I can recall seeing something in their fluff/models mentioning destroyers, but I'd say they also fit the NL, IW, WS and LW okay - vicious, brutal legions who put a lot of stock in shocking the enemy.
Maybe the IH too, seeing as they didn't give a fuck a lot of the time and they had lots of gear
>>
>>48325813

No... they had a gene seed crisis before the Crusade.

Then, when they found Fulgrim, they fought with the SoH for a while because they could barely field a sizeable force.

However Fabius at least is still tainted and basically has to constantly operate on himself to stay alive
>>
>>48325783
>Well.. You've seen new wulfen right?
Yeah but if Ultramarines get a "fresh start" for 30k, why not the Space Wolves?

Also, the core *concept* of the Wolfen isn't so bad, heck everyone loved it in the 3rd edition Codex Eye of Terror and in Imperial Armour 11. GW's modern execution is to blame (as usual).

Blood Angels can't possibly get past the Signus Prime campaign without their lol emo vampire cursed blood Death Company stuff being in 30k, and Dark Angels in 30k can't avoid all the Dark Ssseekrets bullshit that everyone hates about them in 40k; but people trust that Forge World will handle them with sufficient reverence that they'll be as unique and cool as they were in the Rogue Trader/2nd Edition games, and not as grimderp over-done as GW morphed them into over a two-decade process of iteration.

I just can't work out why the Space Wolves don't get a fair shake.
>>
>>48325950
The book he mention says 110,000 he is just an illiterate retard. FFS the same paragraph that says 110,000 even says the EC lost about 20,000 at Isstvan III and might have been lowered to 50,000 total. He failed to read several numbers correctly somehow.
>>
>>48325858
>who is ever going to want to play the only good version (if Forgeworld can pull it off) of the Space Wolves?

SW players, Alan Bligh and company seem to really like 3rd-4th ed 40k and its full of nods to those codexes (Like veteran tactics, man I miss Sword Brothers with furious charge) and the Wolfening began in 5th ed so my guess is that FW will try to make them be more in tune to their 3rd ed codex than 5th's Wolfpocalypse.

Their speshul Destroyers are actually on termie armour: the Grave Wardens.
Of course, they're quite different, being much more resilient (and damn painful to assault) and slower, but such is the DG.
Too bad they lack any decent ranged AP whatsoever, but still better than dual bpistols, eh?

Was true, but was contradicted in a BL book by it first occurring during the Signus Prime campaign when a Bloodthirster defeated Sanguinus (non-lethally, obviously). Most of the Blood Angels went berserk in the exact same was as Death Company, but they (mostly) recovered when Sanguinius did.

Also, it's suggested in earlier BL books that Sanguinius is aware of the flaw in his geneseed and that individual marines occasionally go into Death Company mode even long before that, and that he's doing is best to hide that fact so that his legion doesn't get purged.

You're thinking of the red thirst for the genetic defect they had in 30k, sometimes causing bloodlust (which was amplified by khorne etc. on signus prime). Notice that the lost brother at the start of Fear to Tread was drinking blood. Black rage is literally marines thinking they're sanguinius fighting horus.

This is false.

What the Blood Angels on Signus Prime suffered from in the wake of Sanguinius going unconscious was the Red Thirst, which was already in the legion well before they were even united with Sanguinius.

The Black Rage subtly crept into the Blood Angels after the death of Sanguinius and is largely an irrecoverable psychosis barring the case of the Battle-Brother formerly known as Calistarius.

Sort of - remember it's chaos so you can get future echoes via the warp
Also - there's a short story where Malacador and Dorn dissolved the blood angels because everyone thought they were dead
They go to Baal to requisition all the loot and the chief astropathica dies getting a signal from raldoron saying they are alive
The Baal garrison then paint themselves black with red crosses and go into the ruinstorm - like a riders of the dead thing
My guess is that massive block in the timeline of progression of the Angel of death will be a massive campaign where blood Angels fight through the storm to terra kicking the shit out of the traitor rearguard
>>
>>48326600
>Also - there's a short story where Malacador and Dorn dissolved the blood angels because everyone thought they were dead

That story is directly contradicted by Book VI, in which a large garrison of about 4k BAngel legionaries under a completely different leader hold for fortress and take in shattered legion folk.
