>>
>>47697180
Why aren't you?
>>
OP's edition has me wondering about a Guy Fieri deck. All I can think of is Greed and Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger. I don't even know who the general would be.
>>
>>47697257
He Who Hungers, duh.

In that case, The Gitrog Monster.

It's not THAT bad, it's obviously spirit tribal only but in spirit tribal it's a mind slash stapled to an okay body with soul shift as well

>>47697257
Stuff a bunch of Devour cards in there
>>
>>47697257
So, Gitrog Monster as the Commander. Put in Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger, He Who Hungers, Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger.

Greed, as many things with Devour as you can, Devour Flesh, Feast of the Unicorn, Faceless Devourer, etc.

>>
Does Mycoloth work better in mimeoplasm reanimator or new ezuri aggro and dorks?
>>
>>47697496
Devour with a tribal subtheme.

Have someone 'alter' all your token makers with a sharpie. Your Thallids no longer make Saprolings, they make Nacholings. You don't get a Spider token from Penumbra Spider, you get a Slider token. You don't get Elf tokens, you get E.L.F.udge tokens. You don't get Wurm tokens, you get Gummi Wurm tokens.
>>
>>47697537

Ehh, I'd say newzuri I guess

The card is kinda slow but newzuri speeds it up so that's cool

I can see why you'd want to copy it with mimeo and that also speeds it up using mimeo's counters, but the result is just a decent number of tokens during upkeeps, and I think thats strong but not necessarily better than avenger of zendikar or other token making creatures
>>
>>47697522
Have you posted it here? I've seen a Pirate deck in these threads that was a fucking masterstroke in terms of flavor

>>
>>47697537
I think Ezuri. Say you only devour one thing, and that leaves you with just Ezuri and no experience counters on turn... 4.

Next upkeep, you get two Saprolings, which gives you two counters, and then Ezuri can put two counters onto your Mycoloth. Next turn it makes four Saprolings, which gives you four Experience counters, and then Ezuri can put six counters on your Mycoloth. Then next upkeep it makes 10, etc, etc.
>>
>>47697257
Nourishing Shoal
>>
>>47697762
Food Chain, Feed the Clan, Feed the Pack, Cruel Feeding, Feeding Frenzy, GUILTFEEDER, Urge to Feed, Spike Feeder, Time to Feed
>>
>>47697730

I feel where you are coming from, but say you have Mycoloth and a random creature in your graveyard, you play mimeoplasm as a 4/4 (assuming no creatures to devour) and you get however many counters automatic, then you put that many saproling into play right at your next upkeep

Newzuri grows it faster but mimeoplasm gets you that value quicker, which is kind of the difference between newzuri and mimeoplasm in general, newzuri is kinda durdly and mimeoplasm is splashy
>>
>>47697914
Why not both?

I need help figuring out 5 more things to cut.
Man, EDH deck building gets hard once you get down to needing to cut those last few cards to make the 99.
>>
>>47698111

I think gleam of battle is a good cut, not the worst card ever but it's your most overcosted and durdly anthem effect

Fight or flight is kinda cool and I've never seen it before, but it also seems like it's a little underwhelming and you can probably cut it

Chandra the firebrand seems like one of the worse Chandra's, although I can see how it would be sweet with all your extra combat sorceries

Radiate seems like a very situational card that might be clogging up your hand when you'd rather just be spending your mana on other things

Patron of the Akki is kinda in a similar position to gleam of battle where it's one of your more expensive anthems and could be a potential cut

>>
I'm honestly a big proponent of picking a general that suits the tribe, rather than a general that necessarily is of that tribal type.

Like I consider Abzan to be the best color combination for Tribal Knights, so I wouldn't force myself into Jund or Monowhite if I was running Knight Tribal just to get a Knight for a general.

Same way if I wanted to do like Samurai, I'd prefer it to be Boros rather than monocolor.
>>
>>47698676
Why would Abzan be best for Knights instead of Mardu?
I had a deck that was tribal Knights, but I used Tariel as the general. Worked real well too, since Tariel would distract people's removal from the actual threats I had - like my Knights themselves.

I built a teysa combo deck. I took it to my LFS edh day, and I won both games, one vs prosh, karador and the other had brogo. One was a turn 4 infinite. How come she isn't considered a t1 commander with the rest of those. I guess I can see the lack of blue from the esper commanders, but not all the t1 commanders are blue. Nobody knows.

Every Rakdos deck plays out the exact same way. They put together a game plan of enablers and fatties, and then when they sit down and draw their 7, they realize their deck doesn't work.

You play your turn 3 lobber crew, and hope it lives. You play rakdos on turn 4 and hope he lives. Then, finally, on turn 5, you get to make a play. Meanwhile, the other decks are playing efficiently costed cards on their turns because their decks aren't half composed of pingers and the other half fatties.

Godspeed anon. A friend of mine gave me a personal challenge to make a Rakdos deck that isn't garbage assuming a roughly 70% meta, and I've tried three separate builds so far. If the tech exists, you won't find it posted here.
>>
>>47699597

>>47700876 is correct, Rakdos is inherently inconsistent. If you don't draw the correct combination of damage spells and fatties the deck just doesn't work

B-but Black is king of tutoring
>>
>>47701144
instead of tutoring for pingers and fatties you could've been tutoring for much better things
>>
>>47700876

That's because the deck relies on the commander too much to function. You should NEVER cast your commander naked, you need mana for Boots/Cloak/whatever. Every EDH deck needs 36-38 lands, Sol Ring and protection, and then you fill it out with your shit. Rakdos can't really get protection online without deterring from the goal of a pinger -> Rakdos -> Fatty. And if you stray away from that plan, your deck just doesn't do anything. There's no real redundancy (like Roon having a fuckton of blink enablers and not really needing to play Based Rhinoman)

It feels like it would be better to just run Rakdos as B/R goodstuff deck, relying more on Kiki-Jiki and MikeTrike shenanigans rather than EldraziNPingers.dek. If that's the case, Grenzo would work better.

Fuck, Rakdos is such a bad player trap. EDH is full of that stuff too.
>>
>>47701156
for sure, but I don't see why Rakdos would be inconsistent. My boros voltron deck can pull off its schtick everytime as long I I don't get manascrewed

>>47701144
Cool, demonic tutor for prodigal pyromancer can be your turn 2 play. There just comes a point where you have to tutor for some crap like onyx goblet and you see just how pitiful your strategy is.

Rakdos himself can be very powerful, but the deck just doesn't have enough cards that fit the Rakdos niche, so you have to develop some kind of consistent subtheme. The next problem you're going to have is picking a subtheme that is:
* Limited to black/red
* isn't vulnerable to single-card shutdowns like rest in peace or aura of silence.
* Has interaction with Rakdos

If you can't do these things, you might as well play a third color. The game plan overlap of black/red just has worse options than other colors. You want to play a black/red deck with eldrazi in it? Play Kresh or something.
>>
>>47701205
Your boros voltron doesn't have to play garbage cards in order to play your commander. Your boros voltron doesn't depend on sticking low-value creatures in order to be able to afford the mana costs on the rest of the deck.

The real issue is that classic Rakdos doesn't have enough cards that fit his niche, so you have to play trash cards just to be allowed to cast spells. That means every time you draw, when something could have been a land, rock, crucial removal, or threat, you could draw a piece of shit in a sleeve.
>>
>>47701393
I never said it was good. I said there shouldn't be a problem with consistency. It can/will be consistently crap

Dralnu is just like Rakdos: looks fun, plays badly. Your commander is basically a phyrexian negator, which means you load your deck with boots-type cards or your game will be ruined. So lets say you get dralnu in play with a wispersilk or some shit. Your deck is loaded with cards that do nothing but stop your commander from losing you the game, but that doesn't matter the moment you cast walk the aeons, and then recast it.

The highs and lows of this card are so drastic that you should be rewarded by some interesting games when things do go to plan. In practice, playing with or against a Dralnu wearing greaves is a bit dull. He would be much more fun in the 99.

It's really strong but very much a battlecruiser deck, which I don't really want. Godo should be hitting on T3

Do you really need all those combat phases and MLD? Especially Island-killers.
>>
So these 4 color general EDH decks coming out soon are going to suck ass, right? Unless everyone is just going to built it on a green skeleton and ramp their way into near rainbow + goodstuff.dec

Even still, seems like you're asking for a dicking with that mana base.
>>
>>47701896
Possibility Storm is doing you no favors, since you can tutor out all the gear you need.

Hellkite Igniter is too expensive and Hoard-Smelter is probably better since he can smash your opponents' rocks and boost himself. Myriad Landscape is too slow. Goblin War Drums is cute but doesn't help at all late-game, and you have better evasion in there anyway. That nonbasic landwalk is cool. Get an Inquisitor's Flail to double down on damage, maybe lose the higher-cost combat phase stuff like Fury of the Horde.

Also some Rituals, Strata Scythe and Masterwork of Ingenuity would work wonders in here.

In my kaalia deck too, and yes I did win, I stole 22 artifacts from the daretti player like 5 were creatures, and I had like 5 noncreature artifacts of my own

What happened was after I stole, naturally the table came up with the k grip to kill the swift boots, then the doom blade to kill the tyrant, but 3 turns later (5 person game), dude goes for a living death, forgetting about the tyrant, I still had all my mana rocks and all the daretti player's voltaic key unwinding clock nonsense

Ended up winning with exactly 20 artifacts

Yes that's exactly right, the 3 mana is what's called an "additional cost"

When you cast a spell you choose either to pay the normal cost or any "alternative" costs available to you (such as force of will)

THEN, any additional costs are added, then any cost reductions are subtracted, then you pay the final total

I've been trying to build around this idea of getting my opponent to stack his hand then I discard it all and do massive damage to him in one turn. I decided to try and build this deck into a rakdos commander deck with some fatties to build a wall while I do direct damage. It was wildly inconsistent as a 60 card deck and I imagine it will be terrible as a commander deck. But I did manage to hit someone for 14 damage on turn 4, so it does have potential.

>tfw your entire playgroup are a bunch of control heavy faggots that do nothing but turtle, spam removal and wait to combo off while occasionally countering part of each other's combos

I hate this.

Are there any cards that shuts out this kind of play entirely? I'd rather deal with goodstuff.dec than fedoracombolord.dec
>>
>>47708376
Defense Grid oughta shut them up.

Also, Grand Abolisher.
>>
>>47708376
There's a few things you could do, depending on what kind of combos they're using.
City of Solitude, Price of Glory, War's Toll, Stranglehold, Back to Basics, Defense Grid, Teferi (creature), Aura Shards, Rule of Law, Arcane Laboratory, Vexing Shusher, Grand Abolisher, Red Elemental Blast, Pyroblast
I mean, most of this is control in itself, but that's the main way to stop control in EDH.
>>
>>47708403
So the only way to stop them from being faggots is to become the U/W Lawfag myself. Damn it.
>>
>>47708449
I mean, there's also the meta-solution of sitting down with them like adults and saying that you find the overly durdly counter-heavy metagame frustrating and unfun, and ask if everyone would be interested in building a more aggressive deck to just try it out.

But considering you're asking for answers to "control heavy faggots" and "fedoracombolord" on 4chan instead of attempting that solution, I doubt it would work anyway.
>>
>>47708449
You don't have to be W/U lawfag.
Most of what I listed >>47708445 is Red and Green, which can really fuck up U's day.
>>
>>47708445
>>47708449

There is another way, brothers.

Vexing Shusher/any mittful of "can't be countered effects", right into motherfucking Thieves' Auction.

My playgroup stopped playing their boring as fuck decks after a few games of Eye of the Storm/Thieves Auction/Warp World etc.

Basically any card that just says "FUCK YOU, FUCK EVERYONE, WE'RE DONE HERE" by completely destroying the game state without any regard for your own victory.
>>
>>47708449
Also, as a note, City of Solitude even stops mana abilities, even lands, from being used. It's the literal "you can't do anything on my turn" card.
>>
>>47708488
I don't like going full chaos with stuff like Eye of the Storm because it's disruptive in the worst way. When it takes a solid 2 minutes to resolve any spell anyone casts, I'm gonna scoop because I have better shit to do.
>>
>>47708521
That's the point. It's no different than sitting through 45 minutes of draw-go-counterspell attrition until someone at the table manages to get their foot in the door and ejaculate off their instant win combo.

I just find it to be the most boring, especially for a multiplayer format.
>>
>>47708546
Neither's very fun. I don't like spending 45 minutes playing draw-go until someone combos out, but I also don't like having my choices be "Pass turn" or "spend 5 minutes figuring out how all this resolves every time I cast anything".
>>
>>47708564
I feel like the original point of EDH making it singleton format was to basically spit in combo's face, but with the amount of "same card, different name" reprints over the years, combos haven't lost any functionality at all. It's crazy to think how many options there are for reliable, consistent EDH combos even when you're only allowed to run 1-ofs.

I almost want to make a new format that is more what I'm looking for. It's frustrating trying to have that balance of interaction without it being Creatures : The Tappening, or "One turn instant win combo".
>>
>>47708592
I mean, technically the original point of EDH was to give Judges a chance to keep themselves sharp by forcing weird interactions that normally never happen.

Kind of a stupid question here.

If I have this guy on the field and the opponent has a shitload of 1/1 tokens in play, and I Wrath of God, will he become indestructible as they leave, before he dies and tank it? I don't really know in what order creatures being taken off the field resolves in.
>>
>>47708613
Effects like Wrath blow up everything at once.
They'll all die simultaneously and your guy won't have a chance for his ability to take effect.
>>
>>47708613
The "Destroy" effect happens all at once, and at the time it's happening the Titan is not indestructible. There is no order- it's all simultaneous.

My (pretty casual) playgroup.
Outside of orange, blue, and light blue, we're all fairly new players who got into Magic less than two years ago. As a result there's a lot of stuff that wouldn't fly in more experienced or cut-throat groups, and I'm thankful for that. Most decks are also pretty low-budget.

I wish I could build decks as janky as orange or as on-theme as blue. Been thinking about building Mishra, U/B Sygg, Zirilan or Gwafa Hazid next.

My friend uses it; it's fairly funny the first time, but people know better after.

Buried Alive -> Pitch Dragon Tyrant, Darksteel Sentinel and Xathrid Slyblade.
Cast Soulflayer and delve those three away.

Now you have a 4/4 Flying, Hexproof, Indestructible, Trample, Doublestrike with Vigilance. Yes, there are still ways to deal with it (making him sac a creature, non-targeted bounce, etc), but it can be very annoying early game and demands answers.

Janky as fuck though obviously.

Because Vigilance starts with a V and is furthest down the alphabet so it should be at the end.

Soulflayer and Fated Return are two very fun, reasonably 'new' cards that haven't really found their way into Reanimator yet.

Soulflayer for the obvious graveyard interaction, and Fated Return for infinite amusement if your target happens to be Hexproof. Sphinx of the Final Word is generally my favorite target in a graveyard to hit with Fated Return.
>>
>>47710105
I assume Soulflayer isn't in reanimator decks because it doesn't have anything good on itself, and it gets rid of your other reanimator targets. So if you delve a lot of things to make it good and it gets killed, well you're shit out of luck now that all your other good reanimator targets are in exile instead of the GY where you want them.
>>
>>47710163
Yeah. If you want to use something to the tune of "use my dead guys to make this better with keywords" in a reanimator deck, Cairn Wanderer is a better option.
>>
>>47708679
I have a feeling you might be mistaken on this. Checking the comprehensive rules, I think this should work exactly the same as "wrath of god vs knight examplar"

Wrath of god destroys the creatures simultaneously. This means that when the titan is in play, the other tokens are considered to also be in play when wrath destroys everything. It will take me a minute to find the rule.
>>
>>47710204
Wrath doesn't kill knights with Exemplar out for the exact same reason it DOES kill the Titan: It's one simultaneous "destroy everything" effect. With Exemplar, at the time of that destruction effect the knights are indestructible, even though they stop being so as soon as Exemplar actually dies- it doesn't matter. At the time an effect said "I'm destroying you", they were indestructible.

The opposite is true for the Titan. At the time a destroy effect is happening, there's still other creatures on the board. It doesn't gain indestructible until the destruction effect has already killed everything.
>>
>>47710163
>>47710183
Everyone at my table tends to have a few good graveyard interact cards in their decks too, so I don't mind delving out some of my targets to prevent them from swiping them from me. I usually have stuff up so my creatures have flash, and I flash Soulflayer in response to people trying to steal my shit or empty my graveyard.
>>
>>47710272
If you're playing a reanimator deck and your best defense against other reanimators is "exiling your own shit", you need new cards. Feldon's Cane, dude.
>>
>>47710283
I have Feldon's Cane. But you're not going to always have it out in every scenario. You can keep running genericrenanimator.dec if you want; I was just giving fun and interesting suggestions. It's not even that terrible. If you can't spare 3 cards in a reanimator deck to make a retarded Voltron demon, then you don't know what fun is.

As soon as you pop darkest hour, she becomes quite easy to deal with, also like any other combo strategy that doesn't involve cycling the card to combo - is susceptible to counter spells.

My locals t0 (Sen-Tier)/1's (by win rate) are Sen Triplets, Oloro, Kreshh, Norin, Nahiri (Sleeper-Threat), Brago, Ojutai and Keranos - all of which run heavy amounts of permanent hate or some form of chaos that actually benefits them and can fuck over combo players quite quickly and run necessary counters.

The t2's are mainly combo/control decks, with t3's being homebrew/flavour and t4 being pre-cons.

He's not really "shit" though, but the indestructible clause isn't the reason to use him, the recursion is more important. He's kind of weird though, and you have to be cautious of everything he triggers from, like reanimate and cremate.
E.T. is a unique card as he triggers from leaves from grave rather than enters grave. There totally is better options, but that fella is useful.
