I'm not sure why I did this model. I mean, it's not like Orlocks usually have hunting rifles and I sure don't have one now. I guess I just wanted to use that sweet sweet Skitarii rifle in something.

It's called anal leakage. It is also thick, oily and translucent.
It also tends to leak out of messy unclean sphincters like this. It's mostly likely his diet and poor hygiene that are the problems here.

Considering the fact that the effect in question was actually caused by Blood for the Blood God, the real answer might even be worse.

I am done constructing my fences. I now have 12x 4" long 2" tall segments and 6x 2" long by 2" tall segments.

Just need to damage their supports, prime and paint them. Then apply signs. Mmm mmm!

But first, I need to walk the dog (for real, no yo-yo tricks here, son) and get some inspiration herbs.

Until next post, adiĆ³s amigos! (get it, I am building a WALL that I paid with with my own money and speak spanish! GET IT! Make 40k Great Again!
>>
>>47511250
I don't get it.
The eyes are top tier. The mouth, while flat, looks convincing. The dirt and mud is a nice touch. But the skin turns purple, thus darker, where it should be lighter, so I don't get what you were trying to accomplish here. Also the transition isn't very subtle, while you look more than capable to acheive it.
On the whole, you have an happy hand anon.

I don't have access to an airbrush, but here's what I did with drybrushing.

Basecoat Lothern Blue, then drybrush a 3:1 mix of Temple guard blue and Vallejo Game Color Glacier Blue to a good majority of the source, then 2:1 of the mix to a smaller area, then 1:1 to an even smaller area, a drybrush of only Glacier Blue to the near center areas, and finally a drybrush of White Scar to the very center of the sources.

Does it have to be shoulder mounted? You could put a few rockets in the indentations on the sides of the "torso," sort of like how the mk IV dread does it.
>>
>>47516069
They're all compatible with all paint. Just thin it like fucking crazy.
>>
>>47516069
Badger or Iwata are the way to go. An Iwata neo is good for beginners.

Get a gravity fed (cup on top) one. Fuck bottles and their bullshit, wastes way too much paint and isn't what we need.

Citadel paints are shit for air brushing, vallejo do a line designed for it. Make sure to get thinner and cleaner, watch videos on how to clean an airbrush before you use it, do it.

I'd like it to be. I tried doing some stuff under the L/R torso blocks and it just looked like too much

This one.

I have one of these and I have one 3 times the price. The more expensive one is clearly a better brush and it feels better but it's way more delicate. The Neo is great price and functionality for a beginner. As long as you learn to clean it properly it will do what you need.

>>
>>47516632
>implying that matters when all parts of the model are easily accessible either way

i mean, i guess adhering to a completely pointless habit regardless of actual utility is good for wasting time
>>
>>47516610
If noise really isn't an issue, you can use a shop compressor; you'll need to adapt down to your hose size, and you'll want a second regulator inline so you can get some control over your air pressure. If you and your neighbors/spouse/pets are driven to suicide by the BRRRRRRRT, at least you were warned.
>>
>>47516632
Paint gives a weaker glue bond then non painted. It's best to assemble as much as you can without making it difficult to paint.

Size creep. You can still easily have games of infantry/vehicles and maybe a large unit or 2, but the XBOX HUEG units are mainly Gargantuan Creatures, and those are easy to restrict from games. >>
>>47519284
The construction of the well is complete here.
A piece of glossy paper with the "warp" pattern is currently sticky tac'ed to the bottom (plasticard) with a Horror also sticky tac'ed on top.
I will prime and base with acrylics, but I had some related questions last thread that you may be able to answer.
Can you only use acrylics? What about latex interior house paint? Will that bleed into the water effects? Will the print from the glossy paper? Will anything if I give it a coat of transparent acrylic matte medium over top before the RWE?
I have glow in the dark acrylic paint, do you think that will present any problems?
As you suggested, I will test something out first, but if you know the answers to these questions it will cut out a lot of trial and *error*.
>>
>>47519528
Acrylic paint should be fine provided you let it dry thoroughly. Never tried latex (I assume it would be safe, though), or printed paper. Sealing *should* prevent any major problems, but since I haven't tested it personally, I can't say 100%.

The most important thing: be extra careful that your well is water-tight before adding the water effects. Leaking is no joke.

Buy some brush primer so you can touch up spots the spray missed and also prime in conditions where you can't spray.

>How the hell do you make such good and thin highlight on the scythe?

You have to anchor your hands and arms against your desk, I push my bodyweight against my arms as well, which means the only movement my hands will make is what I 'tell' them.

When I want to make a brush stroke I often start the motion slight above the model and do so until I have it aligned as I want before applying it against the model (think how a golfer practice swings / aligns before hitting the ball)
>>
>>47519797
Use multiple light coats so you can see where you miss instead of trying to hit it all in one go. With blacks it should easily take 2-3 passes, and you can see pretty clearly where you're missing and what the trouble spots you'll have to figure out are before you get a solid color on the flats of the model as long as you aren't dumping the paint on.

Decided to get started on a small 500pt Inquisitor force. Was hoping you guys could give me some color ideas for my first acolyte warband.

This guy will be one of 3 crusaders in the squad. Was thinking of doing using black and yellow as main colors, mostly on the cloth, with the armor a dark steel and red as a spot color.

Thoughts?

Will post the other members of the warband currently built.

Can't post pics at the moment but I'll try and explain it, I'm definitely doing it wrong. I've tried it too ways: just doing it all over with emphasis on the crevises. Second I tried just doing the crevises and it looked alright except the edges of the wash made it really obvious it was a wash so it looked like a stain once again.

>>
>>47522823
You can get weird marks with washes if you let it dry at different rates in different locations. If doing the first approach, get the whole model wet with the wash then let the whole model dry together. It may be that when you're concentrating on the crevices the wash is drying unevenly elsewhere, resulting in those marks.
>>
>>47522823
When you do an all-over wash you always get some variation in the colour that it's on top of, but it sounds like there might be too much on there and you're getting more serious pooling.

Both these problems might be that you're using too much at once, building up washes over a few layers can reduce the stark edges.

One of a bajillion projects I'll take forever to finish. I need to figure out ventilation so I don't fuck myself up while using certain materials.

The fig isn't bad and the fitting is mostly okay but I did notice problems with the join at the neck. I haven't glued the head and the left leg to the torso yet. I need to do some putty work before that.

I mentioned it in a thread some time back that I drilled out the eyes and put a couple of beads in as replacements. The plan is to putty in some eyelids at some point. I magnetized her butt so she'll be removable from the base, which I added some texture to with a motor tool. I also had to lower part of the base so her feet would rest more naturally on it.

>>47525713
Get some variations in the black?
You can add a hint of brown (warm) or blue (cool) to it. You can also give it a hint of metallic, though I've never really been happy with how (not) smooth metal paints are. You can use a little graphite to get a dark gun metal. Just rub it to the surface and give it a clear coat afterwards. Slightly lighter blacks by adding just a little bit of white as well.
If it's your thing, you can always trim the panels with gray or whatever like GW does.

I bought them online, but they appear to be actual brick (clay).
Easy to cut (with a sharp knife and a steady hand) and sand.
I used No More Nails as the "mortar" and laid it down with a toothpick and a rolling motion. Press brick in place, continue. Whip away excess NMNs with finger or tip of a clean tooth pick.
It takes some time to cure, so you have time to work, and any excess is easier to remove once it sets ever so slightly. Just pick it away with a knife or toothpick.
I am about to prime the whole thing now after cutting the edges off of any bricks that are poking out the sides.

>>47526739

Newfag here. How do you all stop the little mistakes, like the left shoulder yellow spill in pic related. Is it just practise, or correction, or is there some mystical ancient technique handed down from neckbeard to neckbeard? Shits frustrating, green is showing on my Exarch's faceplate and it look like he has a skin condition or some shit. If I paint over it, it just obscures the detail of the model (eyes etc). Any tips? Is it literally just practice?
>>
>>47527123
Just wipe off a lot of the paint on your brush, and then be very careful. Using the side of a brush can also help. You can of course touch up the mistakes later by painting over that yellow with green.
>>
>>47527123
Use a smaller brush and correct it by oh... I don't know... painting over the area you slipped with the original colour?
>>
>>47527147
>>47527249
Coolio, ty. So just practise I guess. One further question to pester you with: on the shins, the spills between the chevrons. How to correct those, bc it seems even the smallest brush would over onto the yellow. Would maybe a green wash help, dabbing the chevrons with tissue paper?
>>
>>47526849
But, what does telling US that do?
Nothing. GW doesn't KNOW you aren't buying. They just know someone is maybe possibly not buying as much as normal. Maybe.

>I think that Vallejo started selling paintings for american cartoons.

>The Vallejo company was registered in New Jersey, U.S.A., in the year 1965. In these early years it specialized in the manufacture of colors for animated films (cartoons). The most sustained expansion of Vallejo started in the nineties, beginning with the introduction of new products directed at the Modelpainting and Hobby sector. The company became the first specialist in acrylic colors, with a long and varied experience in all aspects of this branch of manufacturing.

I'll be darned. I'd always wondered if there was a connection to Boris Vallejo - the timeline fits - but Vellejo is from Peru, so it looks like the name (and the artistic bent) is coincidental.

Hmm, not sure. If it's acrylic it should work. I'd say test some different thicknesses and applications on some spare sprue.
Mine was pretty watery (Imperial Primer), but only after a LOT of manual mixing and adding water. I realize this is a different substance, but it may help.
I'd imagine white gesso is the problem as well. Too chalky and reflects too much light on a miniature scale. You may have to sand it, but I can't see that being a viable option on such small models.

Ah thank god, was afraid I'd have to buy some kind of chemical or w/e. I watched the painting guide on the GW site and was trying to decrease the number of paints by as much as I can. Only problem is, again, I know NOTHING about painting. Primer? What's that shit? Going to be a lot of learning going on these next few weeks. I still need to do something about these moldlines.. and I should probably due it before I get them painted. Seems like every aspect of this game has layers and layers of complexity.

In the guide the guy uses uh... Agrax Earthshade to bring out the details in the armor and uses Nuln Oil for the weapon. Should I skip the Agrax and just use Nuln for both? Trying to do this as cheaply as possible since buying paints I don't have the skill to use seems wasteful

>>

>>47530298

I was on about this stuff: http://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=15

But yes, you'd undercoat/prime with a white or black spray, and then Mephiston Red over the top. The Army Painter stuffs specially formulated so you don't have to prime first.
>>
>>47529266
Get a drop of water in that fucker, also, to avoid brush marks, apply the gesso more like a dry brushing than like paint. With somewhat thinned gesso and that technique I usually get excellent results. If the gesso shrinks too much and leaves a few bare spots, you can always reapply it over those areas without much hassle.
>>
>>47530199
agrax is a brown color and nuln is a black color

which kind of look would you prefer? they are you models

Primer is special paint that adheres to the plastic extra well, but is too thick to use for normal painting. Usually you do one base coat of primer in a black, grey, or white, then do your colors over that. Primer comes in both pots (applied with a brush) and spraycans.

For a beginner, I recommend getting a can of Chaos Black Primer. Shake the can very thoroughly, hold about 12 inches from the model, don't use it if it is humid or windy. Use light coats of primer, and do multiple coats if you feel you need better coverage.

>royally fuck up a model or two as I experimen
isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush, available at any supermarket near the medical supplies*, can remove acryllic paint in minutes without harming plastic.

I know it could not remove the old Citidel Chaos Black primer, but I've had it remove Corax White primer no problem. Not sure how it will fare against the new Chaos Black, but it will allow you to remove the paint over the primer very easily at the least.

*(obviously supermarkets only sell new toothbrushes - you will have to make it old yourself)
>>
>>47530620
Ah I forget you can take the paint off... Really takes a lot of a stress off. As for the toothbrush... I think I just swapped out my old one for a new one a few days ago so I'll have to work on that. At first I was like "haha, duh they don't sell old toothbrushes! that'd be gross!" before I realized old as in softer brush and shit, not... yeah...
>>

you could use a new brush if you wanted, just don't use it to brush your teeth ever.

As far as stripping paint goes, alcohol is one of the more expensive ways to do it. A bottle from my local supermarket is maybe 4 bucks or so, and I think I could strip about 20-25 models with it. But I like using it because it is easy to get, safe enough to use (keep away from open flame), and very fast.

Simple Green is another chemical people use. It is a lot cheaper, and you can also use it to do cleaning around the house. But while alcohol takes minutes, simple green takes hours, maybe even days, and will not be as thorough. I've left models in Simple Green for months and it only removed some 80% of the paint.

Castrol Super Clean is an automotive degreaser (you can get it on amazon, or maybe at an auto store?). It is much more powerful than Simple Green, but you MUST wear gloves when using it as it will also cause nasty chemical burns. A gallon of this stuff could strip a 3000 point army and probably have some to spare. It will remove anything short of enamels. I don't use it because chemical burns don't sound very fun.

Any of the methods can be combined with a sonic jewelry cleaner (20 dollars on amazon) to strip paint faster. I've read a sonic cleaner and Super Clean will remove anything that can ever be removed within 30 minutes or less.

>>
>>47531586
well if you really want to start beginner as fuck, look into zvezda, russian company that makes 1/100 tanks that are easy to build, 10 pieces at most. also, enamels? just use water based acrylics, so much easier to use for beginners
>>
>>47531690
A friend of mine needed a hobby and she's big into WWII Germany because of our heritage, so we wanted something that would take at least a little effort. We found the Italeri kits are pretty good quality. I was just interested in what an easy to use paint would be for our Tiger and Pz.III. Water based acrylic, eh?
>>
>>47531828
that's what everyone in this thread uses, they prime with spray primer, depends on the person for that, and then paint it up in panzer grey, or maybe prime it grey to make it easier
>>
>>47531828
Water based acrylics are easier to clean up and use. The alternative would generally be oil based enamels, which would be trickier to deal with. They would need mineral spirits ("paint thinner") or other substances to thin and/or clean.
You can pull some of the details out with a wash or three to keep the model from looking flat. For certain types of weathering or picking out details, you can try acrylic oils, which you can find at art stores. They can be thinned out and cleaned with water but blend and fade like oils. Just don't use too much water while painting with it or you lose some of the oil benefits. A tube could last you a really long time if you just use it for late stage.
>>
>>47531022
THe paint seems a bit slathered on, but I think that just makes it a bit more Orky. I doubt an Ork would go through all the trouble of taping bits off or going for a perfectly even coat.

I think that bumper could really use some teef though.
