What's good for applying the snow if I want to avoid using a paintbrush? Toothpicks?
>>

>Is there a way to convert regular marines into a bike-sitting position
Take a left and right bent leg from the assault marine kits(this will require some cutting, hope you have a small saw). Dry fit them in the bike, might have to play with the leg position or cut the feet to the right angle, then put them legs and crotch area together with pins and glue, maybe GS if there's gaps that need to be filled. After you have the lower body fitting right you should probably make a mold for it so you don't have to repeat the process.

>Don't ask why
You're forcing my hand anon. I need to know.

Alright /wip/, here's a challenge for you all!

Paint a spare model that you have, or even a cheap one you just feel like buying, example being the $10 snapfits, and paint them with a theme in mind.

Metal (Not metallic!) Tyranids, Wooden Space Marines, Skeleton Necrons, things like that.

Would I be able to get some feedback with this shading and highlighting work? It's supposed to be a ministorum priest, so I basecoated the cloak with Mephiston Red then used a Carroburg Crimson wash, after that I tried to highlight the more prominent bits again with Mephiston Red but it looks a lot more like paint streaks than it does light hitting it.

Mix a bit of the base hair colour into your flesh highlight and stipple it onto the head following where the hair line would be and work it back down the back of the head. That's how I do bald people and stubble in general, doing the wash method never at well with me.
>>
>>47535186
Just use a little, get a little drop of this stuff in your paint pallet and then get a brush full or two of paint and mix it together, when you dip your brush into the paint get very little paint on your brush, Multiple small coats of paint will go farther than one big glopy coat.
>>

Worked on some Warhammer related minis for the first time since Age of Sigmar literally ruined the world.

I like the toxic sludge effects on the left plaguebearer more than the one on the right, though I feel it feels somewhat cheap looking.

>2 stage highlight
Yeah, this is what I'm having trouble with. I just can't seem to get how to apply the highlight to the bald head, however many pictures and videos of bald heads and bald miniatures and bald artwork I look at.

Gloss varnish is a solid plan though.
>>
>>47534349
Yeah man.
Marines are the easiest thing to convert. All the parts really cleanly segregate.
Just cut the shins and knee and feet as one bit. Cut the upper legs from from the crotch.
You now have 5 pieces. Crotch, 2x upper legs and 2x shin/knee/foot combo.

You drill into the segments and use some soft wire to join them. Fill the gaps with green stuff. Very easy given the marine webbing looks like ridged tubing.

If the knees are very bent you can even glue the knee to the upper leg without need for gap filling.

Some very thin sharp side cutters are very heldful for cutting the parts.

Enjoy your new mans and feel proud you did it yourself.

If we add this to the OP, I think we should break it up similar to how WHFB gen does it (http://pastebin.com/CvGaNyrk). Make it clear what certain bits are good for and at what scale.

Also definitely with a larger emphasis on bits and not necessarily focusing on GW franchises so it's easier for all folks to use. Also mentioned scale as well where possible.

-knowing which colour of clothes go with which

-in general knowing which color goes well with which. Helped a bit when we were buying furnitures for the house

ok i checked, the scheme i was referring to is kind of like the other anon said, but you base zandri dust, wash agrax, then you base all the non-recesses ushabti bone and highlight screaming skull.

My WIP in Leman Russ (before washes)

So far I'm shit at highlighting and I'm shit at doing faces, but I'm way better than I was last time I got into this hobby (like, 2012)

Okay I have no clue why my fucking picture is upside-down
>>
>>47537097

was that because they were really liquidy? most of the ones I saw while looking were more of a paste and shouldn't require hollow bases
>>
>>47537154
Ther are obviously lots of paints going out of their place.
Near the back of the leman you missed a pretty big silver spot.
Try giving it another well thinned coat, in some places it really needs one.
You forgot some moldlines on the commander and on the gun.
On the sponson you put that grey too thick, it looks really to thick to be a normal mistake, what went on?
What are the colours and what are you going to highlight and wash with?
Pretty good effort
>>
>>47537154
Do you have any pics of your infantry? Your colour scheme is interesting.
>>
Ok, so if we add >>47536198 's pastebin to the OP, we should probably add a good stripping tutorial (like >>47536538 mentioned) in as well to stop repeat questions where possible. Anyone know of a really good one for new guys to follow?
>>

>>
>>47537383
dakka dakka has some, but there are so many ways,
brits always talk well about dettol,
then there is acetone for metals, simple green, Chante clair(which, at this point, i think only italians use). Then what?
>>
>>47537203
Yeah, I think I will give it another coat. The silver patch wasn't really obvious until I looked at the pic, so I missed it.

I'm not sure what happened with the sponsons, I think I just didn't think the paint enough when doing that, and it ran more than I thought.

I'm sadly kinda limited for funds, so I was just gonna lighten the colours I had to highlight, and use a black wash.
>>
>>47537458

this should work
>>
>>47537154
models this sice really need an airbrush or a lot of thin layers to look good.

I mean this for real, you should have thinned your paints more. in some places it looks like thick wall paint.
I don't want to be mean but some colors are all over the place. you should do a clean up before continuing.

If we do that then I think it would be best to keep some common stuff actually in the OP anyway, adding the step to go to a pastebin and look through it will deter some people from looking before posting.

Not a bad idea for just having a log of manufacturers. Usability and length are the only real issue. We'd have to structure it well.

>ventilate, motherfucker
Good idea.
>second point
Yeah, I've seen people not bothering with FAQs on other gens. Not sure how to solve the issue. /gsg/ on /vg/ has an infopic. Perhaps we could adapt the idea to help with questions that could be answered briefly? Pic related is /gsg/'s infopic.

>>47537517
Nah, it's not mean, it's good advice. I'm still pretty new to actually painting and putting proper effort in (I don't game so much these days, but back when I played Space Marines, I basically rushpainted them so I could play). So yeah, actually I'm taking all the advice I can. Next time I do a vehicle, I'll make sure I do lots of thin layers (I should probably layer more with infantry as well anyway)
>>
>>47537606
>infopic

I think a condensed FAQ copypasta is probably the best, with a link to the pastebin for extra stuff.
Infopic means we lose our varied /wip/ pictures and I like them.

That said, something closer to >>47536568 along with something more explicit about resizing your images, maybe "How to not Australiapost your images from your phone" would probably be better suited to the OP than

>DIY lightbox

if we assume that the OP is aimed at random scrubs, and regulars who will actually put the effort into finding a guide are the ones who want lightboxes.

That's right, seperate pieces. For the wolf himself I had to glue in the left foreleg, left hind leg. He's not glued to his scenic base, as I am keeping them all separated for ease of painting. The ridershave a tab that slots into the legs in the saddle, the rider in the pic is also unglued but fits snugly enough on his own. All three riders have the slot in the legs and a hand on the saddle grip(I don't know what you really call that part he's holding in my first picture) so you have some really solid points of contact.

Go and paint it, just don't throw too thick layers onto it. Maybe you could make some tear on the coloured areas?
I don't remember how to do that, haven't painted in 20 years, but iirc it was just drubrushing some black onto edges or battle damage and then drybrush some metallic onto that. Experts itt know better.

The Chaper logo is pretty awesome, but you really went overboard with the washes here.

You could try just painting them into the recesses of the armor next time and coming back with the base to clean it up afterwards to get stronger colors and a blacklining look.

The scheme itself isn't bad, it's just a combination of colors that would really benefit from a cleaner look imo.
>>
>>47538720
Thankyou!

It certainly would. I think the whole AoS system would work quite well for Mordheim with a few tweaks. The base game can be scaled up well but also works well for skirmishes. In fact I would be surprised if GW ever redid Mordheim, the system would be based on AoS.
>>
>>47539760
Same problems as last time.

Your poor use of washes is holding your models back, and you're not using highlights.

Dwarf flesh plus a bunch of agrax isn't a good colour because the finish looks bad, either mix some brown in there to get the colour you want or start using different paints for it.

You did at least do the eye lenses on this guy.

Hey smar/tg/uys. I need some help with my sudden Helbrute idea.

Any of you have a cool idea on how I could model the insides to look like they actually contained a tortured, broken soul of a Chaos Space Marine? The outside will just be the regular Helbrute model. (Not from DV)

Suggestions please.

Thanks, its taken me a few months to get to this stage with on and off work but I think I'm getting the hang of it now. Just painting to do now. I'll probably try painting my black from a grey colour so it blends with the gold, rather than just using edge highlighting on pure black.
>>
>>47542026
Yeah. There is a range of anthropomorphic animal people based on WWI.
Can't remember the name, but it I remember people complaining about it, because it was deemed insensitive to picture one nation as rats etc.

Can't remember the name of the range or the manufacturer though.
Maybe you can find it if you do some googling.

Can you elaborate on the issue? Do tey come out textured like tey were snow? Maybe the paint is"coagulating" make sure to shake it proper and don't spray when it's too hot.(also might be that you are spraying from too far)

Right /wipg/ I got sent here by 40k general, I've got the knight renegade set and I'm going to paint two freeblades with original donut steel schemes and decals, this is mainly an attempt at seeing how custom decals will come out, I've already decided I'm going to do one a solid bronze with gold trim, not quite minotaurs but similar enough.

The other I want to use a dark purple as the overall colour, with gold trim, but I'm not sure what to use as a secondary colour to split the armour plates with, the nature of the custom decals means it can't be white. I was thinking using orange but does anyone have any better ideas

Try spraying from nearer like the other anon said,if it doesn't work anyway try looking for a spray that could work in your environment. If you find none then you will have to brush on prime.
>>
>>47543116
I forgot : in the last thread there was an anon shilling for a particularily resistant spray try looking at that
>>
>>47542401
If you're priming outside, make sure the wind is still.
Double-check your spray distance, spread your pinky and thumb out for a quick gauge. Too close and the paint will run and ruin the details, too far and it can dry mid-air and seem dusty.
Use short, controlled sprays and build up thin layers. Do not douse the model.
Start spraying AWAY from the model, do not point the nozzle directly at the mode, the work the spray across it.
>>
Are there any cheap detail brushes that someone would point me in the direction of?
>>
>>47542401
>>47543425
look at the recommended spray distance on the can.

Thought I'd prime some models by brush as I bought Imperial Prime a while ago and still don't know how to use it. I guess spray primer isn't that expensive but I'd like to try using it.

I've watered it down but I'm always worried that it just leads to pooling in areas. Do I need to even apply another layer if I'm painting in black? Is it too watery?

I use imperial brush primer to get the spots I can't spray easily. I tried thinning it down, but it doesn't stick well, and it seems like the pigment separates easily.

It seems to dry nice and thin without water
>>
>>47547037
You know when you're washing your hands with a bar of soap? And you've got all the soapy foam on your hands to scrub away the dirt, grime and jizz? that's a lather. Work the brush(GENTLY) into the brush cleaner until it's foamy like that.
>>
>>47547483
>and it seems like the pigment separates easily.
are you using water to thin?

Most paints, and likely primers, use a non-water medium, that isn't fully solvable in water, so you get separation. Try a thinning medium.

Was able to get some work done on some of my acolyte warband I posted last thread.

My phone cams pretty terrible when it comes to picking up color. The red and yellow are a lot darker/deeper in person and the metal looks more tarnished.

These are still just on the first layer of basecoat though. Still have to finished the rest of the basecoat off and fix up any mistakes and then highlights and washes.

Anyone have a good recipe for a medium skin tone? Not too tanned and not too pale?

You could make a brush out of those hairs, but they would be of inferior quality, because they wouldn't hold a point, hold paint, last long etc.

Paint brushes have been made for a long time, we've figured out the best hairs to use for them by now.
