Playing fresh DE agaisnt chaos, they have no block or ball skills but they injure 3 of my guys and have all 3 off thier rrs by turn 8

Also why does fummbl say to get block on them before dodge? Dodge is a better defensive skill, and gives insurance to your mobility. It lets you have a safer option of backing out of unfavorable scrums and picking your battles

Not nearly as suffering as early Pro Elf or early High Elf.

Elf teams in general are a lot less suffering too compared to Chaos, and let's not even get into the lower tier teams like Ogres/Khemri/Vamps/Underworld/etc.

Generally speaking I favour Block (or Wrestle) early on elves because they give you a capability that can't be matched by a team reroll - both skills "save" your rerolls but Block/Wrestle also allows you mark an opponent with more confidence, since a Both Down will keep your guy next to him (whereas Dodging a POW/PUSH will still result in getting moved away).

Dodge is also useless when you go up against a Tackle team, whereas Block or Wrestle is always useful.

With DE, your 4 Blitzers are picking up Dodge first anyway, and they're the mobile ones that do the heavy lifting. Getting Block/Wrestle on the rest of the team makes them more effective at being roadblocks.

I'd say Dodge is better than block just because at low TV most teams don't have block or tackle so against a blockless tackleless player it means they have to roll a pow to knock over your elf. Also later on wrestle is better than block for elves, but goes shit with guard so going dodge-wrestle gives you 2 dice rolls to roll guard/mb/a stat up.

You can come to the IRC and post your replays from FUMBBL and ask for a critique of your play. If you don't care about staying anonymous you could even just post them here - there's a few anons who have looked over games in the past and have given pointers.

IRC is also the best way to catch a live opponent for a practice game; no guarantees that anyone is there but that's the place to ask (aside from sending a PM to league members).

The other thing you can do is look through replays of similar teams (preferably coached by a player who's decent at the game) and try to analyze the decisions and train your instincts. This can also be pretty helpful for specific roster vs. roster matchups

At the start of a given turn, try to figure out:
-What's your instinctive gut feeling to do in this scenario?

Trying to understand the game through replays is one of the best things that can improve your Blood Bowl instinct. The game is a lot like Chess or Go in that most good players attain a quick and instinctive understanding of board positions, rather than trying to brute force number crunch all the possibilities.

My team feels a bit bloated. What should I cut? I'm thinking I could do away with the throwers.

I thought the goblin would be fun for occasional TTM nonsense but it never really comes up and he just ends up taking up TV.

I would say to cut the Troll+Goblin, but the fact he picked up Block makes him actually pretty handy. Trolls on an Orc team still feel like a needless luxury though.

I don't really think the team is all that bloated, to be honest; it just really depends on how much you value contingencies/redundancy. Successful TTM plays are definitely rare but they give you at least an option you otherwise wouldn't have. In the same way, a second Thrower gives you a backup source of Sure Hands if your first one gets injured/killed.

I think my problem is primarily that the black orcs aren't as developed as the rest of the team, which proves to be awkward against other bashy teams, which is all I seem to be facing.

Maybe if all the blorcs had block and guard I could see the troll being redundant but as of now he seems to be pretty damn useful.

I do like the throwers but as I mentioned I'm not exactly sure whether their skills are worth the extra TV, especially when 9 times out of 10 the gameplan is to gain a numerical advantage.

Then again, every so often you're surrounded and just need to pass to a blitzer and go for it.

Playing in the tg league won't make you better. The standard is terrible. Whether you like it or not, playing in ranked/box vs better opponents, be it through them picking you or through box draws, is the best way to learn. The next best thing is getting some analysis on your replays, again, for that you are going to have to play the game.

Ignore the fucking memes here and just play the goddamn game on fumbbl. Yes you will get raped, the key lesson is to work out how it was the play that changed the game rather than the dice.

Also, you can't git gud at BB quickly. But if you can get competent you can compete in Rookies no problem.

The throwers aren't necessarily for passing. They're for picking up the ball and running with it - being able to grab the ball without eating rerolls is very useful, and Sure Hands makes them immune to Strip Ball attempts which would otherwise be a strong counter to an Orc team.

Chances are you probably just need to modify your overall strategy a little. Getting a numerical advantage is nice, but the great thing about Orcs is they generally don't need one. Most bash teams want to roll up in a cage and then make a quick handoff at an opportune moment to gain separation.

Almost any team that has ST4, AG4, or MA8 will benefit from the corresponding statups. Going from ST4>5 or AG4>5 is where things start getting into "bullshit" territory.

ST5 allows you to tie up 3 average strength players and still only give away a 1d block. AG5 allows you to execute most agility rolls at a 2+ when marked by one guy, making it much harder to lock down the ball. Likewise MA8>9 gives you a threat range of 11 squares due to GFIs, nearly an entire half.

Break Tackle on Undead Mummies (and Khemri TGs) is generally used pro-actively to set up plays, rather than reactively in response to marking.

Humans have really a wide variety of angles they can go. They're a team that's good for beginners but can be difficult to master, because you have no obvious strengths. You can never have enough Guard. Guard is tremendously useful because a canny opponent can simply position his players to deny you any 2-dice blocks; Guard lets you circumvent this and get vastly improved odds of a knock down. It's also likely you want to develop one (or maybe two) Blitzers into a "killer", with Mighty Blow and Pile On combined. I wouldn't plan too far ahead because rolling doubles or stat ups can really change up their focus. A Blitzer that rolls +AG or doubles (for dodge) makes a good ball handler, for example.

Big Guys are generally a divisive topic. The Ogre is definitely one of the more reliable ones. The issue with Big Guys is not just the negatrait (although even Bonehead will screw you - to put it another way, your Ogre will not do anything for at least 1 turn out of 6 if we even assume just average probability). Rather, it's the fact that they don't get access to Block and can't use team rerolls without a Loner check, which sort of puts a downer on having high Strength in the first place. This means Big Guys are generally a roadblock first; spoiling the plans of the other player, rather than a player that can proactively bring you victory.

Some days of course your Ogre will pass all his bonehead checks and roll POWs and deliver you a win off a risky play, but many games are also lost on the Ogre that rolled double Both Downs on block dice and couldn't reroll it due to Loner, or an Ogre that was supposed to close a cage and then Boneheaded. So long as you remain appropriately wary of trying to hinge your plans on the Ogre's performance they can work well.

With humans your starting roster should be
3 rerolls, 4 blitzers, 1 orge, 1 thrower, 5 linos. This will leave you with 30k. Your options are to save up for an apo, spend it on fan factor, or upgrade a lino to a second thrower.

After the first game buy an apo and as soon as you can buy an extra lino. At your teams biggest point you should run 3 rerolls, 1 apo 4 blitzers, 1 ogre, 1 thrower 1 catcher, and 6-8 linemen.

Ogre should go guard, stand firm, then grab on singles. Block then pro on doubles. Ignore all stat ups.

Only field the catcher for 1 turns, quick drives, of if you don't think you can score without him. He should take block, side step, sure feet. Ignore all doubles and take what ever stat ups you can get.

Thrower take all stat ups. Doubles are dodge then side step. Singles you want block first. The rest are up to you but the choices are accurate, leader, tackle, fend, kick off return. Take all stat ups

Linos should ignore 6+4 and 11s. Doubles are for guard then take block. always take +st. Your first lino with a single take dirty player. You want 1-2 dirty players. Second lino take kick. All other linos take block or wrestle (I prefer wrestle) then fend or tackle.

Blitzers are your best pieces. All stat ups are gold. Doubles are for dodge. If he has dodge then side step and if he has pilin on take jump up.

The 2 most important blitzer skills are guard than mighty blow. It is also vital to have 2-3 tackle players on your team and blitzers (and the thrower) are the best spots.

It doesn't hurt to have one blitzer with any of the following skills sure hands, pilin on, frenzy, or strip ball but you generally only need to see that skill once per team. (sure hands you want on the thrower and one other piece unless a blitzer rolls +ag just in case your thrower gets knocked out of the game)
Other generally ok blitzer skills are stand firm, grab, jugernaught, and fend but none of them are as good as guard mighty blow and tackle
