How do you like the models?
I've been looking at the sprues and have been wondering if you could build them and just leave the armor plates off. They seem like a good base for Ork/Orc boss conversions. That is if I don't end up having to reculpt half of the torso.

A friend of mine gifted me the start collecting box for the Necrons and im currently thinking about the colour scheme, can anyone recommend me something not the standard black or gray maybe somthing a bit more flashy or just different..
>>

Well, there is always working in bronzes or golds alongside with reds or blues in place of green for a splash of color.
>>
>>47304027
Oldcrons used to be a bit more varied. Then ceramics were a material people considered painting necrons as as well, which comes in basically any color you want.

I have these two imgur albums that should help some:

Doing some outdoor terrain making on a nice day:

Making a large spiral hill in the same fashion:

Hope that helps, but feel free to ask questions.

I really like the models. I also got the shaman as well because I became so infatuated with the sculpt. Would make an amazing wierdboy for 40k army. I prefer the ork models being more upright than all slouched over and gorllia looking. Makes them more menacing. The back plates and shoulders are separate pieces but it leaves a huge divot in their back if you left it off. You would have to re-sculpt most of the back and shoulder blade areas.
>>
>>47304259
>>47304291

http://3t-studios.com/ once had a great tutorial that helped inspire my pieces. A couple months ago (iirc) their servers were corrupted and they lost all their old tutorials, but at least I took lots of pictures of my process based on theirs.

>>47304396

I liked the shaman too. The best AoS mini so far imo.

I need to make some plasma servitors to go with my Iron Hands Techmarine. I have plasma cannon sprues from my Devastator squad but little else. My initial thinking was snap fit cultists with the arms chopped off but I feel it might be lackluster.

The Techmarine miniatures are expensive so I'm tempted to call it a day on the Inquisition ones for the cost of £10 for two. They're slightly ugly though.

Has anyone had experiences with any kits or advise? I might one day along the line buy the breacher kit for assault centurions when I feel less guilty parting with £30. I guess that will have the torso and arm parts to make good conversions.

I recently picked up Imperial Knights Renegdae and want to magnetize
I want to magnetize it at the hips, the carapace weapon, and the arms
My issue is the arms
I am okay with only having one of each gun between the two of them because I don't want to deal with an absurd amount of small pieces, but I want the guns to be able to attach to either arm and to also magnetize all the melee weapons, so i can run any knight variant. My question is where should I magnetize the arms to achieve this, and what size of magnets should I use

The cost is water, tooth picks and Green Stuff.... easily a fraction of the cost of buying premade and I think you under estimate your skills (you have eye balls and fingers, yes?) and over estimate the "difficulty" of poking a round blob of GS into the basic shape of a skull.

A poor craftsman will blame his tools (or lack there of).
A quality craftsman will use the tools at hand and make you think they had all the "proper" tools all along.

Skitarii box. See the guns at the top, the heavy guns? You get 2 lots of each in the box, plus see the rifles on the others below? Cut off the brass barrel at the front, and it looks like a kind of plasma-carbine.

basically a SM chapter where each member is invited to join from their own chapters. Specialty is for killing xenos.

You paint your armour black, one shoulder/arm silver, and keep your original colours on your other shoulder.

For me its an excuse to paint a whole bunch of characters without looking like someone with ADHD who can't pick a chapter.

I think the blue is too dark and the gold is too flat. Definitely wash the gold. Did you paint it on straight over the primer? Since metallic pigments are transparent, it's good to build gold up over a brown or copper base. As it is right now, it looks very flat. A wash and a drybrush on the robe will also do wonders for it.
>>

i did put a light brown down over the face and the tassle thing but not on the shoulder. ill have to try a darker brown maybe?
and for the blue i used a dark blue, maybe i need broader highlights to bring it out more.
and for the robes i did do a wash and highlight, maybe they are just hard to see.
but thanks for the input, ill deffenently see if i can fix him up a bit.

The Swastika is a symbol as ancient humanity itself, it dates back at least 8000 years to prehistoric mammoth ivory carvings.

Shame about the stigma in the real world, because the Swastika is definitely a great symbol for humanity to use as a banner. It has always traditionally symbolised luck or auspiciousness in both European and Asian tradition. So maybe if you paint a swastika on your models you will get better rolls?

Okay, so heres a rough draft of my idea for my Mas'ed Rida' (Ork Kamen Rider)

The mask design is the basic idea I got, I dunno if I wanna add a horn, or one of those fins across the top, or just leave it as is. I also want to try and replace the chest piece with the Blightking chest piece (it's that, or I keep the original chest piece, which is Punisher Ork)

I intend to lob off his power klaw arm, and it, along with a few other weapon arms, magnetize them so he can have something like Rider Man's Cassette Arms. Maybe even a smaller conversion where I take the shooter and give it the ability to turn into a sword (like so many modern Rider's are want to do)

So the main question I got is, does this helmet design look good? Any input to what I could add maybe?
>>
>>47314702
The image of the swastika dates back far, yes, but that particular banner is obviously a Nazi swastika, due to it's positioning, and the colors of it. If it was similar to the swastika on the Dread's armor, it would be more reasonable though. Hell, I have swastikas on one of my Deff Koptas, since it's also an Ork symbol.
>>
Working on a super dark 30k word bearer scheme at the moment.
>>
>>47314758

True enough, that banner is NatSoc for sure but I meant in a more general sense.

However, it doesn't mean that National Socialism wouldn't be an appealing ideology for far future human supremacists like the Imperium.

I wouldn't be surprised even in the near future if Nazis and Hitler were seen in a more favourable light, once out of living memory.

>>
>>47314821
Well the problem with that mentality is Hitler wanted to purge humanity...of humans, humans that he saw as 'lessers' simply because of their ethnicity, sexuality, or other pointless reasons. The Emperor would be completely against Hitler and the Nazi's ideology, because he wanted all of humanity to unite, regardless of your color, your sexuality or any other meaningless difference, if you were human, you were part of his promised empire of greatness.

>>47314862

Doesn't the Imperium have a eugenics program that would make Hitler blush.

Also if you just scale up Hitlers views for Germans onto Humanity as a whole, the ideologies are almost identical, a supremacist, totalitarian, expansionist ideology. I'm pretty sure the Imperium doesn't have time for weakness or the genetically inferior, I'm sure they exterminated many abhumans they encountered.
>>
>>47314924
bam and the loyalist are gone!
>>
>>47314862
>Hitler wanted to purge humanity...of humans
mutants, bro

The Emperor fucking hated mutants. One of the only sensible retcons they've done was that his golden throne webway project was so that he could purge the Navigator houses.
>>
>>47314942
Actually not true. The Imperium accepts all humans, they dont waste time purging the "inferior" humans, because if that human can hold a gun and shoot it, they can serve a purpose. During the Emperors era, he pretty much welcomed every kind of abhuman into the Imperium, but after he fell, the restrictions on abhumans have tightened up, but they still allow some pretty off strains, like Troths, Beastmen and Scalies. They are mistrusted by the puritan members of the Imperium, but they are considered citizens.

The Imperium recognizes 73 stable abhuman strains, of which 46 are listed extinct, 12 suggested to have died out or been assimilated into the greater population thus leaving 15 strains still recognized as citizens.
>>
>>47314965
Theres a difference between jews, blacks, gays and the handicapped and mutated humans. Even then through the majority of the Imperium, mutants are permitted to live, but treated like garbage.
>>
>>47315003

The Nazis utilised auxilleries of all different races in WW2, they showed the same pragmatism you describe. However I imagine if (although its never going to happen) the Imperium brought peace to the galaxy they would then look inward and create and crusade of genetic cleansing of the human race.

At any rate putting genetic weaklings into the Astra Militarum is basically purging them anyway as that meat grinder is basically a Social Darwinist's wet dream.

Any tricks on how to remove paint? I head acetone free nail polish remover works pretty well.
>>
>>47315310
always do a test run on a piece of scrap metal/plastic/resin before using it on models
>>
>>47315310
I use Super Clean, they stock it at my local auto parts stores, not too expensive for a small bottle, and give it a day or two of soaking and give it a good scrub and you'll get it clean, it will also melt any glue
>>
>>47315310
I let my models soak in oven cleaner, brush off the paint with a toothbrush (you want those nasty stiff ones). Then dip the brush in non-acetone nail varnish remover. Do not submerge the model in the varnish remover, it will start to melt over time. Also remember to rinse it in water between chemicals.

Way off topic, but thinking about the software has triggered me again.

If you're writing in a high-level language and:

Just come into possession of a box of these guys. I'm going to paint them up as Tanith obviously, but I was thinking about doing their camo cloaks in desert camouflage to better fit in with my Tallarn army. Anyone got any good camo patterns or advice?

I have some printed pads, too. You can wash them, but do so sparingly, you'll have to clean up. The printing lines are pretty minimal in terms of aggravation.

I'd pick one or two of the colors and darken/saturate em a bit. Right now he has this really pastel thing going on.

>can't find bit anywhere
>go through all my stuff several times
>fuck it, can't wait
>buy new bit
>project finished

It's like legos all over again...
>>

After the second time that happened to me I got one of those drawer boxes for bits, labeled EVERYTHING and use a new drawer for every project and every miniature.
>>
>>47322036
I got load of tiny food containers. Special project bits now go in it's own container for each project. Don't put unnecessary bits that aren't relevant to the project in each container or you get the same problem.
These are a couple square inches.
Pill boxes would do too.
>>
>>47322187
>>47322208
I got everything in ziploc bags and boxes by project and army. So, for example, there's a bag with all the bits for my Guard, and in that bag are smaller bags containing bits for specific projects, like heavy weapons squad bits, ogryn bits, etc. Bits that aren't part of any particular project get sorted by type (decorative bits, terrain bits, weapons, etc.) Some bits might just be in individual bags for whatever reason. All these bits go into their own container.

I had looked for that bit in both the place I keep all projects to the army it was originally suppose go into and the container with all the bits that aren't related to any projects. Nothing. And I had gone through those places multiple times over the winter for related reasons and I often let my autism take me away and sort some shit while I'm going through the containers.

Today was just rifling through a box to make an inventory for a future project of what I got and what I might need to get, when lo and behold I find the bit, in its own bag, plain as day. I'd gone through that box a dozen times top to bottom and somehow missed every time.

I think they're going to be pretty sweet.

Speaking of missing g bits;
There's a mini on a ~50mm base whose picture I lost cause computers drive died.
It's an undead-esque golem with smaller 30mm bodies protruding from the lower third of the model. Can't find it anywhere for the life of me.

Put the models in a glass full with alcohol 96°. Then put them in the microwave and watch until you see the bubbles. Grab the glass and try to not suffocate. Then simply scrub the models with and old brush. This method does not kill the detail, and removes dipping and the priming from gw sprays, and its very fast. 15 dipped marines with 4 or 5 very thick layers of paint in 30 minutes. Sometimes you need to give them a second bath.

>expecting stepping lines from a professional printing company

Nigger this shit is how they put food on the table, they're not going to use some shitty /tg/ level printer.

Even companies like Games Workshop use 3d printers for some models. The really good ones that leave little to no stepping.

Oh man, that simple conversion is sick. I would have expected some serrated blades for a Charcharodons, but still, keep going lad. Doing good work here.

No they don't. Not yet. They will do for their Adeptus Titanicus if rumors are to be believed.

They do CAD design but not 3D printing.

I've never heard of that method before. Does ist actually work or is this one of those 'grow beautiful crystals' deals?

You're putting modelling plastic and a highly volatile flammable in a microwave, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Those crystals though.

might I please recommend at least running your images through some sort of image processor.

Rotate, crop, reduce size (I usually do mine to a width of 1400 pixels max. Besides the filesize, it's just easier to see what you are showing us on the screen.
On my 42" monitor I have to scroll down just to see the other half of a dismantled model lol.

Just a friendly suggestion, do whatever the fuck you want.
>>
>>47323535
Here's two simple rules that I follow for aesthetic decisions:
"Less is more."
And
"Use complimentary colors."

So, yeah, clean it up and paint the eyes red-orange.
Maybe hit it with some washes and build the highlights back up if it still needs something.
>>
>>47323694

Why Red-Orange?

I'm trying to figure out what to do for the eyes, and yeah, I was torn between red, yellow or light green eyes.

I'm having a bitch of a time trying to carve some old fashioned streets. Anybody have any good inserts that'd work on Malifaux bases? Perhaps any ezpz guide? I am truly awful at sculpting.

The rotation and filesize made it pretty obvious it was from your phone ;)
I have my phone linked to DropBox. When I take a pic, it instantly goes to my computers.

Right-click -> Open With... -> GIMP
ALT+i (for Image menu)
-> T (for transform)
-> C (for rotate clockwise)/ W (for counter clockwise)

ALT+i
-> S (for Scale)
[type] 1400 into width -> press TAB
->ALT+s (to confirm scaling and close dialogue)

CTRL+SHFT+e (for Export)
[name file or keep name and replace original]

[choose compression percentage - 65-85% is generally in the sweet spot of filesize/image quality]

Badda bing, badda boom!

I throw in some other keyboard shortcuts, like a pre-set contrast//brightness and an auto processing on the Color->Layers option, but that should do just for a quick rotate and resize.

Crop is also SHFT+C

I sometimes can't wrap my head about people getting offended by sharing knowledge.

Some people come here to see WIP and get tips and tricks.
Others come to get offended for other people.
