I've been digging online, and I keep finding "how to play (team)" guides, but no "how to play AGAINST (team)" guides, leaving me completely stumped against some of the more uncommon teams like Slaan, Nurgle, etc.

Hit a little hard with the nerf stick. AV7 skeletons are the big weak link on the team. You need to lean heavily on the TGs but they will rarely get those 3 dice blocks you need to make up for the lack of block due to the need to keep other players safe.

As discussed in previous threads, Undead Mummies are stronger due to the free Mighty Blow; TGs could benefit from some free skill as well like Grab.

There are no such things.

To counter play an enemy team knowledge of both teams is required.

But in General look at your team and look at the enemy team.

Let's say you have a 1000TV Necro team (no Ghoul 2 FG 2 Wolves 2 Rerolls) and your Opponent has a 1000TV Dwarf Team 2 Runners 3 Rerolls NO DEATHROLLER)

your Zombie Lineman are generally worse than your opponents Dwarf Blocker. Your Flesh Golems have the ability to stop the Troll Slayers pretty good with their Stand Firm. So you have to make sure that they don't get bogged down by 1 Blocker and stand on the side doing nothing. The Wights are the only players with a fighting skill (block) that you have they are generally better than the Dwarf Blitzer and will give you maneuverability so don't let them bog down.
Your werewolves are generally better than any lone player of your opponent and the key to victory in this match so don't let your opponent ever block them.

So the general strategy is slow opponent down with zombies. If possible prevent a cage from forming with your superior speed. Then steal ball for a td. If not possible.
Bring the dwarf cage to a stand still with Flesh Golems. Foul High Priority target with Zombies (2nd Runner) and focus on preventing a td. On attack use the higher maneuverability of your wolves to run the dwarfs ragged. Pretend to run through one side on one turn change sides and run through there. This forces them to waste re-rolls for GFI's or possible dodges (especially when the Golems stand next to them and he only gets pushed results.
This strategy totally falls apart if your opponent has some skills though. That's why you will never get such a counter guide

Sadly, I have no memes for those respectable rodents, as i have actually seen no matches featuring them. Seeing as they start the match with 3 loners and 1 fatality, maybe I should have. Ah, I was wondering about that. I just retired a campaign with a Skaven Team, since I had gotten a grasp on the game and knowing I was merely playing on Medium was eating away at me.

Still, getting consistent 1-turn scores was awesome. +1 Agi +1 Movement Runners are the dream. I do wish the AI didn't have painfully sub-optimal ordering at times though.

Gutter runners are *the* best scorers in the entire game, absolutely no contest.

Compared to elves, it really comes down to, would you rather have an entire team that are "good" ball handlers, or a handful of units that are the best ball carriers in the game. Also, Agility is really only super important for people who pick up the ball.

Additionally, having every unit with MS 7 is extremely useful, and it allows your linemen to be extremely mobile (although you cannot abuse dodging quite as much as elves). Plus, you have access to mutations which does give you a slight edge over agility teams.

TL;DR The extra movement speed on the Gutter Runners and Linemen (to a lesser extent), and access to mutations are more valuable than they might seem at first.

AG3 is not really a big issue if you never need to make dodge rolls in the first place because no one can keep up with your players. The safest place for the ball is beyond the movement of any player. No matter how many screens or marks you set up, a player can always go on a lucky streak and spring the ball, but Gutter Runners are fast enough to make reaching them a physical impossibility.

Their lightning speed also allows them to literally cross the entire field in a single hand-off play. A GR can go up to 11 squares with GFIs, and two GRs making handoffs can go 22 squares, nearly the entire length of the pitch.

Secondly, the high base MA means that knocking a GR still leaves them with 6 movement after they get up, which is the average movement of many other teams. So long as your GRs don't break armour (which is generally the way to beat them), they'll still be useful.

It depends on how much you rely on Dump Off. If you do, Nerves of Steel is incredibly useful, even more so than Dodge. Otherwise, get dodge first.

Either way, the first two abilities you want are definitely Nerves of Steel and Dodge (barring doubles etc.)

If you're using him as a proper runner, take Block. Pass is for if you plan to make him into a dedicated Thrower.

The thing about Dump-Off, and the reason many running-focused DE teams avoid the runner, is that it's generally not that great on it's own in a cage running scenario - you already have a -1 to the pass from the TZ of the blitzing player, and usually most opponents try to bring in assist, so you're already facing a -2 pass - there's a distinct possibility to fumble.

It's also likely that any possible catchers for a dump-off are also in tackle zones which means another -1 catch roll. Having Blodge thus cuts down on the need to rely on it - you can choose to Dump Off only in safer situations.

A dedicated thrower generally sits in the back accompanied by a nearby screener and thus Blodge is less necessary - in this case Dump-Off can function as handy insurance in case a single blitzer makes a lucky break through your line. The penalties are less since it's unlikely that lots of opposing players can penetrate the backfield.

A carrier runner will probably want to pick up Accurate or Pass first over NoS - they're handier in multiple situations, and the whole point of having Blodge is that you aren't forced to Dump-Off in suboptimal scenarios.

Dodge is objectively better as a defensive runner skill, especially in low TV. You get block on the first skill if you want a 5th blitzer.

It depends on what you mean by "better."

5 Strength is really the most important stat, so while Beasts of Nurgle has "stronger" traits, since Tentacles is amazing, and Foul Appearance makes him *that* much more difficult to deal with.

However, Kroxigors are faster and have a better negative trait. 5 Strength guys are already beasts on the field, so having mitigated weaknesses is better (generally) than traits that just make them bashier. Tentacles and Foul Appearance are great traits, but Really Stupid is probably the worst Neg Trait to have with these (since you can't send them solo to tie up key players as reliably).

So if you had the choice between the two as an extra choice for any given team, I would usually choose the Kronx. Within the contexts of their respective teams, Krox's are a bit more important for Lizardmen (as a 7th "bashy" unit to protect the Skinks) than Beasts of Nurgle are for Nurglites.

Candy Rappers vs Big Bad Evil Guys(1-1):

What happens when a bunch of jerks start disrespecting, lets find out!

Right off the bat, "fans" of each team stormed the pitch, and in the ensuing brawl, leave 2 of the rappers and 6 of the BBEGs stunned and down. The rappers clearly understand the importance of a large, friendly crowd/gang.
The Big Guys struggle to keep and move the ball while waiting for their team mates to regain their senses, and by turn 4 the BBEG have not been able to move the ball from the LoS and in an impatient move broke away with the ball without the required support. Leaving Cobra commander holding the ball, alone, in the rappers mid field, accomplishing as much as his namesake. Nothing. After gaining and losing control several times like a Republic serial villain. Rappers grab the ball in a series of risky moves and toss it away. The ball passed over head of the Evil Guys' ogre and is handily caught by Skaven Blitzer Crispy creme, who lives fast and YOLOs it down the field tripping and knocking himself out. The ball is the passed back and forth down the field which, despite the sound and fury of the crowd, accomplishes nothing.

The second half starts with a bang with the deaths of Guy Miles Mayhem and Rapper T-Pixiestix. The Rappers distraught over the loss of T-pix start rapidly imploding with several premature turnovers. A cry of Blood Out from coach Lawless Justice snaps the rappers out of their slump and they start to bring the pain, taking several BBEGs out of the game but not quick enough to stop the score. Back on the Rapper's drive, now outnumbering their opponents, they mark almost every player left for BBEGs. A KO'd Mino, plus a failed block by Shredder, plus disastrous uphill block from Dr.Claw equals an easy turn 16 score for the tie. Protip for future opponents, if you are going to step up to LudacrispyTreats, remember dos gains

My Little Arsenal vs Za UnderWarudo(0-2):
Rainy days bode poorly for the halfings of MLA, as the quicker, meaner rats simply walked around the halfling line. The first half saw complete domination by Underworld, who moved when and where they pleased. Even Sam Techs(World's Strongest Halfling) made the claim to the ball, with no more luck than the ability to stay awake.

The halflings make an admirable attempt at reducing the numbers of goblins leading into the 2nd half. Another few blowx and sleeping goblins later MLA are looking to have a chance in this game, then they remember they'd have to actually pick up the ball. Unaccustomed to handling such wet and slippery balls, MLA was powerless. Swarmed by rats and goblins the halfling fought turn by turn to maintain a lack of control by either team. With each turn removing more lings from the pitch, turn 14 saw the number of MLA players on the pitch hit critically low numbers and Underwarudo picked up the ball and picked up the game.

Bretonnian Werewolf in Tilea vs Vintage Veterans [L](2-1)
Week 1 was rough on the necro teams. Both teams lost to their round 1 opponent (0-2) with Brettonnian Werewolves taking the worst game by simultaneously losing Veteran Werewolf Emily Perkins and having one of their flesh golems out for a game for repairs. The Bwits would need some risky moves to make up for the lack of strength and rookie werewolf, and they delivered. Starting with building a wall of undead flesh in front of their opponent, followed by A TURN ONE gang foul of Flesh Golem Frankfurter taking him off the pitch for the half and A TURN TWO gang foul putting perpetually sleepy werewolf Grey Vixen out cold. Over then next 4 turns, Bwit collapsed their wall around the VV cage creating an cage of their own around the ball carrier. In short order Star Ghoul Mitsu Murata blitzes, grabs the ball and runs away from it, far from potential reprisal.

Second half sees the return of crucial but slow Vintage players. To slow to stop Mitsu Murata from again running away with the ball, who runs all the way to not-quite-far-enough and loses the ball to a blitz from VV werewolf Grey Vixen, who suffers a counter blitz from Bwit werewolf Paddy Ryan. Paddy Ryan makes it look easy by dodging out, grabbing the ball and running it in to bring the score to 2-0. Giving 4 turns for a Veteran's drive where they can finally bring their greater strength to bear. Vintage makes a game of reform-the-cage and the Bwit's close around the cage again, but the attrition of multiple players banned for fouling and a few other CAS proved too much for Bwits, they manage to stop Ghoul Liz Traylor from getting an important TD but could not stop Moon Moon from putting Vintage Veterans on the score board. Hard lessons for VV, who hopefully will take a good look at their game plan for next weeks game against Buddhist Elves.

Yea, but he also has lower move-speed and a significantly worse Negative Trait, so he is less flexible *and* it isn't that difficult for a smart player to take advantage it. Big guys already fizzle out 2-3 turns a game on average, and having to take 4+ really hurts

I don't think anyone would argue that Beasts of Nurgle don't have really great traits, or that they are not stronger in basically every way in base-to-base scenarios, it is just that Krox's have an easier time actually getting to block, and can't really be shut down when isolated.

What is the most important big guy *for their respective team*? So not which one is best objectively, but within the context of the overall team strategy. I.e. What team suffers the most if their Big Guy is injured early in a match?

I am not counting Chaos Pact, Goblins, or Halflings because they are, on a whole, extremely weak teams that rely on their Big Guys far beyond actually well-rounded teams. Ogres don't really count for similar reasons.

Ah, I see. So it rolls for the dodge and checks against Agility, and if it fails it *then* checks against Strength (with the same roll) to see if you would pass, and only once per turn.

I am slightly regretting getting in on my Rat Ogre, although there are not any really amazing Strength options anyways.

On a similar note, are there any other really attractive options to get on a Rat Ogre for a second Double other than Pro (first was Block)? Does Dodge work with Break Tackle, or does the reroll only check against Agility?

I have a 1 turn scorer and two "tagging" runners (Block/Side Step/Tackle/etc.).

I was planning to have this guy go the Blitz route with Wrestle/Strip Ball etc. Would Horns be the best to go with this, or is there another trait/build that is worth considering?

I'm cautiously optimistic. Tighten up a few definitions and skills, make the killstack less ridiculous, new inducements and maybe a replacement for the Magic Item/Dirty Tricks/etc. Cards; among other things, and I'll buy it day one.
