There are two kinds of violence.
The first one is the "childish curiousity" violence, which encompasses torture and "strong against the weak", the fight without any realy potential tangible consequences.
The second one is the brute "animalistic" violence. It embodies the fight for survival, the willingness to commit necessary atrocities just to survive.

Since time immemorial, we always rooted for the underdog. The gladiator fights in the Coliseum, the peasant uprisings going against the military, the underground fight clubs of the modern days.

There is something inherently beautiful in the fight of the underdog.
There is something inherently attractive in seeing a man fight against odds, to see the violence commited for the sake of it, to see it done professional and polite - after all, there is nothing more polite than takeing your opponent seriously, right?

Not dragging your feet when fighting with him.
That is what we call true chivalry and true sportsmanship.
Arbitrary rules have nothing to do with it, it's the fact that both opponents take each other seriously and fight for their very lives.

That is what my character is fighting for.
For that pure, unrestrained and "chivalrous" animalistic violence.

A cold beer, some warm pussy, and a place to shit with a door on it.

He's not entirely sure anymore.

He started off as just a regular warrior, making ends meet for his family. Then he ended up befriending the wrong lunatics, being named as the great liberator of his people, accidentally saving everyone and almost getting eaten by a spider goddess.

Now he's on the run, fleeing into the heartland of the evil empire, because no one would look for him there, living a hunter gatherer lifestyles with a magical cripple, his best friend and healer, and his horse.

He's not sure what the hell he's going to do when he gets there, because until recently, he'd never left the savannah.

My character is fighting for a child's destiny.

He was born with no many options. No education, and forced to survive on his own. If he hadn't met a strange old hermit, he probably wouldn't have made it as far as he did.

Half-Orcs have bad reputation. And are often stereotyped. He is a stereotype. He is dumb, ugly and stupid. And all he wants is to hell people.

There's a half orc child that is being sold to an army. They will raise him to be like him. He wants to see that child choose its own future and not have it chosen for him.

To get the recognition and power to set himself up as a noble far away from the farm he was going to inherit.

Revenge for the loss of his testicles.

On a basic level, the damaged remains of some ancient aliens every so often start to effect the location where they were destroyed and improperly disposed of, and can become like monsters. It falls to the group, as headed by two of the still living aliens, to find when and where this happens and properly deal with them. Supposedly there is a bigger danger to the planet itself, though my character doesn't really believe that and thinks it's the alien characters worrying too much, so just helps out with the usual alien remains cleanup or alien site maintenance, largely because he gets dragged along but also because he doesn't want people getting hurt if he can help prevent it.

After becoming an elan, living became something like waiting in a line. The need to eat done away with by psionic sustenance, and the need to sleep replaced by four hours of, not meditation, but absence-- a psychic vacancy into the subconscious, where the only stimuli are internal.

My character was chosen by a council, and changed. Having lived another thirty years without aging past thirty, there was a flurry of Dorian Gray hedonism, which was mostly gambling. Dog fights and pit fights, and slave fights. The latter had him indentured on a farm for a time as punishment.

What he misses most is dreaming. When his party sleeps through th night, he sits there listening to their breathing, wishing he could sleep.

Only some things make him feel alive again. Not killing, not psionic powers, or even the fight-or-flight of adrenaline in battle; it is only the power of fear. Only seeing terror in open eyes makes his heart race. Only commanding fear gives him a sense of control.

This man uses his powers erratically, and without congress-- he relishes the finger on the trigger, aimed at everyone around him. Even the party. One by one he's opening doors in their minds while they rest. Doors he can use at a whim. Doors just big enough for a carful thrust ...

Not that he intends to kill his companions; one day soon, in a stolen hour of respite, he will glide through those open doors and visit, uninvited. Just to let them know they can't lock him out. He hopes they dream about him. He scarred his face, thinking about it.

In my setting, the original merchant and goddess of merchants was mother to part of the old pantheon- and is known to the less subtle as the goddess of whores because she met her husband after hearing about his crafting abilities and hoping she could sell his wares for him- he was the god of fire and had a mean temper, so everyone else was too scared of him even to try and steal his wealth. It ended up working out.

At first it was for king and country. Was best friends with the royal family after saving their daughter and served in the royal guard.

Now it's for the complete genocide of a race of anthro creatures. GM had these things go around raiding towns, killing the men and taking the women. Then they'd drug them and impregnate them to increase their numbers. Due to some bullshit magic the babies were born and grew up in a matter of weeks. After a few towns were hit, they had an army of these things. Then they hit the castle at night. They killed the king and kidnapped the queen and her daughter. I was separated from the party and was left almost dead. After we got all healed up, we basically rallied who we could and led a scorched earth campaign against them. It took a month real time, but we managed to solid snake our way into a camp they were holding prisoners in. I was just to go in, and get them out while the party kept a look out/stole all their gold. I saw the queen and her daughter, along with a score of other women, all pregnant and drugged out of their minds. Their eyes were blank and they just laid there mouths open and bodies limp. Instead of trying to get them out, I granted them mercy by killing them. Then I stepped outside the tent and Leroy Jenkins'd the whole camp. I lost an eye, and the party was beat to hell. After I told them what I saw we made a vow to wipe that race off the face of the planet. Session ended there and GM was not pleased with my choice.

My character fights for fame and glory. Or that's how it started out. He loves to fight and he enjoyed his mother's stories of great heroes battling monsters and demons so he decided to do something he loved. He planned on killing all sorts of monsters that could prove his worth to his clan and to himself but things changed.

The party accidentally helped released the Prince of Demons a literal god into the world who drives everything insane. So now he's fighting to protect his world. Leading an army to kill a god is a pretty good perk to him.

He's a master astropath and over 300 years old.
He's been serving on the flagship of a rogue trader dynasty for about a century now and has slowly worked his way to the center of the Ships vast political network.


He's known the current Rogue Trader and Archmilitant since they were children and has become rather protective of them.
The RT is honestly too young for the job and only has it because his grandfather disappeared, his father abdicated in order to go join a religious order, and his older sister (the Archmilitant) abdicated after 2 years because she just isn't cut out for diplomacy and deal making.

So he works to protect the ship from threats foreign and domestic,
protect the RT from all the horrible things that would kill or corrupt him or worse so that he can grow up to be the leader the dynasty needs.

Redemption and Guilt. His wife passed away from complications during childbirth and the baby survived. His other 3 children have grown up and married.

So he attached himself to a hopeless but noble cause because he strongly believes in doing the right thing. The rest of the party didn't know of course. They just thought he was a crotchety old man who was handy with a musket and a longsword. They only found out his backstory after William made his heroic last stand holding a choke-point against the forces of the empire they're fighting against while the rest of the party escaped with the imprisoned freedom fighters. he survived and managed to escape, returning 3 sessions later to become one of the leaders of the rebellion. After we conquered the capital and overthrew the evil emperor William came to terms with his past and was able to return home and spend the rest of his days with his family. I honestly didn't intend for him to survive and that heroic last stand was supposed to kill him. Still the best character I've ever played

No worries brother, they will all burn. See, the whole party, not just my character, was friends with the royal family. We were setting up that kingdom as our homebase. Our wizard's apprentice was killed, the bard's adoptive mother was taken, the cleric's church was burnt down with the priests inside and the nuns taken, and our paladin found the first person he ever saved, a 12 year old boy, hanging from the castle walls, and our monk had been spending his free time at an orphanage, that wasn't pretty.
