Question for you /pfag/s.

Do you consider an oracle's curse more of an asset or detriment to a player mechanically?

I ask because one of my players is arguing for a curseless oracle (technically it's a flavor based curse, rather than anything mechanical) and I'm not sure how that would shake out balance-wise.
>>
>>46427899
Curses are a double-edged sword.

Haunted is neat, Tongues is okay, Burnt is... unfortunate. I cannot, however, recommend Blind.

Guy who's used this picture for character art in previous games here. This isn't a character from any fiction, it's just part of a set of interesting character designs. The anon was asking for build ideas based on the character's look and feel, nothing more. Here's another from the same set.
>>
So can you like... Do anything else to improve the Warlock's bolts?

>>46427899
Oracles have curses. Its just how they are.
>>
>>46427890

Now, see, I know how important HAM can be, but I've been looking at the SRD, and I can't help but wonder if it's worth it putting a point or two in Cheese. What do you think, too MAD?
>>
>>46427899
Depends, some of them are relatively mild enough that it's not too bad even before you start getting the extra effects.
>>
>>46427899
Balance-wise, the Oracle is damn strong even with the curse, so giving him a curse that doesn't hurt him at all should obviously not give him any interesting or good powers in return.

You get out what you put in, effectively, and if your curse doesn't do anything meaningful, then you shouldn't get anything meaningful from it.
>>
>>46427933
Got a link to the full set?
>>
>>46427899
Curses vary widely in terms of benefit or detriment. The Tongues curse is easily ignored just by having someone else in the party who can speak the same language as you, and the Lame curse doesn't matter if you already plan to wear medium armor or heavier. Meanwhile Clouded Vision can be a huge detriment, and you don't even get See in Darkness out of it
>>
Does anyone else fill out flashcards for encounters? If so what do you write down? Is it the entire statblock with a small tactics section, just the bare details? If so, what do you consider the bare minimum?

How to statting Serah Kerrigan / queen of blades. Infested Terran / primal Zerg form.

Her primary powers seem to be drawn from psychometabolism, telepathy (all psi index 5-8 terrans are psychics), telekinesis (psi index 8-10 terrans are rare enough to be thought a myth, but they're the ones that actually have telekinetic powers). Serah and Nova are as far as I'm aware the only class 10 terrans. Kerrigan once infested became class 11, and after she undid the head fuckery in sc1 she was class 12 (arguably the most powerful psychic in setting, barring stuff like multiple merged archons). After going primal her psi index was apparently off the damn charts.

Well much like there's qualities of locks I'm assuming there'd have to be multiple quality levels for the belt. This example let's just say a mundane, plain but comfortable belt for a girl.

I'm also assuming the size of the creature would play a part, so let's say Medium. Humanoid also.

How do I pyromancer, /pfg/? I've found a few different choices like Flame-Spirit Shaman, DSP's Pyrokineticist prestige class, and Fire Kineticist but I figured I'd check to see if there was something I overlooked.

Blasting is obviously an advantage, but ideally also something with the ability to not fry teammates, and the ability to not be useless when something fire-immune comes along, either due to some ability to penetrate/negate/remove immunity or just the ability to do something else (buff, control) while he can't deal damage.

So a few questions, what happens if it merges with a sword, is it able to attack with itself?
How does it move if it merges with something without self propulsion?
Can it cast spells if it merges with something that has no mouth?
>>

What do you enjoy?
What do you want to play?
You seem to be missing a front line, so with paizo only the go to would be druid, cleric, or paladin, but there are other options.

>So a few questions, what happens if it merges with a sword, is it able to attack with itself?
Right now, no, but I should probably add that in.

>How does it move if it merges with something without self propulsion?
>Can it cast spells if it merges with something that has no mouth?
It still has its own stats, so it can do everything a normal creature can. Presumably it grows legs/a mouth. That's why it gives a Disguise bonus to look like an inanimate object instead of being able to automatically pass as one.
>>

Something melee and tanky, by the looks of it. I'd suggest Warder if DSP was allowed. Maybe Paladin or Barbarian, or possibly a melee focused alchemist.

If you don't want to go Magus my suggestion is Barb, Paladin, or CODzilla. CODzilla doesn't really look needed, so I would lean more to Paladin or Barbarian. My personal choice would be Paladin because I like them more.
>>
>>46430231
Investigators focused on the Monstrous Physique extracts (TL;DR four-armed gargoyle natural attack build) are beast, and can do a ton of things outside of combat.

Bloodragers are really fun in terms of just murdering stuff. You can even do it in full armor or on a horse via archetype, and you get to have some Cha, although not a lot because you're probably just casting self-buffs.

Paladins are great frontliners. Also Cha.

Summoners, ditto. Mounted lancer summoners are cute.

Wizards are gods, it's not a meme, it's true, pretending it isn't true won't make it go away. All other classes exist to tank for, coupe de grace for, or save spell slots for the wizard. It's just the nature of the beast. In my games wizards are NPC-only classes who have inherited a shard of the one true God. It helps explain their imbalance without forcing me to actually deal with trying to balance spellcasting.

Let's see...hunters are a little like summoners, and while they do better ranged they're perfectly respectable melee or mounted and their animal companion is pretty much the best in the game.

Oh! Slayers are the Int-ish frontliners. Completely fucking ruinous, tons of skills, so much damage, death attacks.

There's a Fighter archetype about using Tower Shields, but it's garbage and probably doesn't even let you shield bash with them.

within a certain character idea they are a 99% advantage, but they also fluff the oracle and make him looks cool.
for example the lame oracle clearly is not hindered if he already plans to wear heavy armor.
you can think of it in those terms: his life sucked but he menaged to find a way to not suffer from his curse and turn it into advantage.

if the player is not satisfied with the few curses presented in the books you should invent a new one based around what the player plans to do with the class; make it a minor advantage that also inconvenience and softlock him into the role.

overall they play a small role in the balance of this very strong class, so it's not a big difference if they are removed...but they are such a good opportunity to make an interesting and charming character.

basically yes.

kineticist only if he uses his powers.
druid, clerics, paladins, other divinely inspired classes have moderate or minor restriction to behaviour they have to follow to avoid being punished by gods and lose their class privileges.
characters with Arcane bond can lose some of their powers if they see their bonded familiar or object be destroyed so they have to play around that.

but none of that makes the character really lose something in comparison to a level 1 commoner.

maybe? I have never really looked into the whole grappling thingey because of the entire meme about the rules being 500 pages long or whatever.

I just want to get mad at enemies not taking a swordswing at me, grabbing them by the neck and then repeatedly bashing them against my spiked shield until they stop squirming
>>
>>46433314
Grappling in 3.5 was a headache. Grappling in PF is a bit better. You could also look into Hamatula Strike to literally stick enemies to your shield.

Monsters as PCs.
I managed to get my GM to agree with me using a monster as character. Since the rules state that CR equals the effective character level, does that mean that I can advance it using monster advancement rules instead of adding class levels to it?
Since it is a high level mythic adventure, adding the first levels of any class wouldn't have much of an impact I guess, plus it would be quite troublesome to justify flavors wise.

Anyone else have experience in using monsters as PCs in a high level adventure?

>At 2nd level, a warder is trained in how best to control her enemies and how they behave in battle, urging them to throw their all against the warder's indomitable armor and unyielding shield. With a sharp blade, a clever taunt, or something that otherwise attracts her foe, the warder can direct the attention of enemies towards himself. Whenever the warder attacks a foe in combat and inflict at least 1 point of damage, as a free action she may mark them as her foe (he may even mark a foe during an attack of opportunity and may make the free action to do so, even though it is not her turn) and attempt to continue to force them to engage the warder only. The target is aware of being marked, and the mark remains for a number of rounds equal to the warder's Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1). Marked targets suffer a -4 penalty to attack rolls against foes that are not the warder, and arcane spellcasters suffer

grabbing is pain and usuallly mesh badly with shield, but this warder's feature let you force enemies to attack you. other similar effects might be cavalier's duel.
The game doesn't have many ways to make a tank character viable, although improving your positioning, size and ability to do attacks of opportunity ( eventually breaking into reach weapons) might be one way to achieve it.
having high AC is usually a way to make the enemies want to hit your companions, so if yourplayer make enemies take tactically correct decisions the best you can do is increase your damage output.

Because you can do it as a free action as part of a shield bash.
>>
>>46433336
i remember that in 3.5 you used to take the monster's base form, eventually stripped of some powers based on DM decision, make it count as it were a fixed amount of levels in a class(based on its CR), then take class levels on top of it.
for example a powerful experience and character level 10 cleric minotaur character was actually a minotaur 2/ cleric 8 " multiclass" character.

if the mosnter is too strong to count as a level 0 base form this might be how to make it usable.

I WAS in on it, and that's basically... the entire story already. Not to speak ill of anyone (or at least, TRYING not to, but I'm only human), but yeah, one guy hit a phenomenally higher balance point than the rest of the party, given that we were told to build for fun, not power. The DM amped the challenge up to compensate by throwing a single at us with a CR probably twice what we could handle, no adds just the one guy, and we just kind of sat around impotently missing everything we did while the gargantuan cohort punched it for the entire first session and half of the next. After it died, our healer brought it back to life and we befriended it, just to thumb our nose at the Psion. The next few sessions could basically be summed up as "the Psion and Cohort do everything mechanical, the shota Paladin alternately is molested by his magical dullahan armour, and molests his ever-growing harem of demonic DMPCs, and everyone else is summarily ignored or overruled". I dropped out pretty quick.
>>
>>46433532

>>

To be fair though in an ERP game you're way more heavily focused on fluff than mechanics. Plus if there's bad ends sometimes you don't want to win
>>
>>46433443

Yeah, figured this out as well, but pathfinder specific rules take the base form of the monster and then just add levels so assuming the monsters starts as CR 5, it can only gain 15 levels, when other players will have lvl 20 characters. For most classes the final 5 levels are the most interesting, and this campaign starts at level 15, so having a "mutilated" character would make it not worth the effort.
>>
>>46433598
But I don't want badends! In fact, the only reason I'd join an ERP game is to spite the DM and every other player by avoiding lewd and playing it as a normal game!

So what are the thoughts on the Medic so far? I was thinking it's recovery mechanic is to strong and the sanguinist might need a cap on he blood it can hold when combined with something with fast healing or regen. The fast healing is manageable but if a troll prisoner is taken the character could be able to bank up 1000s (what ever 450 x initiation modifier is (That is pre-10, 10-19 its 450xnumber of attacks×initiation mod) of healing a day while someone is preparing spells, that can be applied in a swift action.

>>46434449
Should probably mention I made some changes to the medic this morning. They've got a good Will save now and I toned down Cura Te Ipsum to a scaling bonus to REF and WILL.

They've also got a new ability:

>Improved Treatment (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, when the medic treats deadly wounds, the creature she treats recovers hit points and ability score damage as if it had rested for a full day. At 6th level, when the medic treats a creature’s deadly wounds it recover hit points as if it had rested for a full day with long term care. At 11th level, when the medic treat deadly wounds, the creature recovers hit point and ability damage as if it had rested for 3 days.
>>
>>46434153

>Dragon - 10 RP
>Advanced ability scores - 4 RP
>Natural Armor (2) - 3 RP

That's 17 RP for type, +2 natural armor and some good ability scores. That Dragon type is killing you, though you could maybe save 4 RP by replacing Advanced with +2 Strength +2 Intelligence/Charisma -2 Dexterity.

Breath weapon? Forget about it, that won't scale well and will end up being kinda silly. Claws and tail could work.

Or, you could just tweak the existing Lizardfolk race (only 8 RP) and make the character dragon-blooded, rather than straight up dragon.
>>
>>46434463

Next up are intelligent magic items, give them some powers to defend the bearer against magical enemies of their chastity (dimension door, summons etc). Costs depends on the abilities, just use the formulas.

Next up is artifacts, for which there is little guide for pricing. I'd say an immune to all but disjunction and wish chastity belt should cost >50K, if it has to be wish immune I'd say >100k.

It was originally just an archetype you had to take to have access to totem powers... but since it didn't trade anything, there was no reason for every barbarian in existence not to have it.

Then in UC, someone slipped in the thing about not being able to use multiple totems "unless you have the totem warrior," presumably because they too didn't see the point of it being an archetype as it was.

But then the Higher Powers freaked out over, I dunno, Beast/Dragon being 2strong4u? And errata'd it to lock it back into its original nothing position.

"Huh."

"New expansion"? Preposterous. The series ended back in 2001, with Throne of Bhaal. Everyone knows that. And Amber Scott will never convince me otherwise, much less convince me to shell out 19.99USD for it because the original games were sexist, or some shit.

What class are you? Mystics, for example, have an ability that works like improved evasion/stalwart vs. spells and lets them substitute a Will Save for the spell's regular saving throw, so you really shouldn't have that much issue.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess nothing happens.

Because you'd be forcing her/him to wear the belt, since NPCs don't have choices or agency, and if you were to force her/him to change her gender by equipping a cursed belt to her/him that would be invalidating their life choice and making them conform to your heteronormative cis-whatever ideals.

No, I'm actually seriously concerned that was a conversation they had in the office when developing the piece of shit.

Question for any GMs that lurk these generals:
Care to share details on what background music you use?
I'm gonna run my first ever campaign this weekend, and I'm in dire need of music. I feel like it adds a LOT to the games I've been playing, and I already have all the tracks my own GM uses. His library lacks the kind of songs I need, however, as our games are going to be thematically very different. His campaign is a chill village-builder thing where the most exciting thing so far has been a goblin raid, whereas I intend to go full schlocky action movie with mine.
So, please recommend some OSTs, artists, albums, what-have-you. I'd really appreciate it!

>There would be no reason to complain or drag everyone else into your problems, and make yourself the center of attention.

It's deeper than that, and touches on some of the feelings every robot or NEET feels.

It's not *fair* if they can magically wish their problems away, because to the mind of a robot or SJW being able to magically solve your problems means all the suffering, all the struggle, and all of the discrimination was all for nothing.

I mean, imagine being a huge fucking loser your whole life. Years of loneliness turns to decades, you watch pretty girls go with men who "don't deserve them", you get stuck into a job you absolutely despise. So you start complaining about it, you start bitching and moaning about problems you could probably solve, but progress does not come without pain and, to you, your life has been nothing but pain so far. So you continue to tap away at your problems, clicking with like-minded people and forming your own little tribes built around how unfair your life is.

And then it's gone. All of it. You're attractive and have six-figure job offers rolling in. This is not the world these people want, because it has and always been the mythical city on the hills, something to admire but never catch, like a greyhound chasing the mechanical rabbit. Without whining about your life, what *are* you? Give the SJW what they want and they'll ask for more because the SJW without a need for justice is yet another beta-cuck loser who doesn't know how to work, doesn't know how to socialize, and doesn't know how to improve. Like the robot that becomes attractive and successful, they'll return to old habits because they've made being broken their defining characteristic.

The big problem with Paizo's agenda is that they're misrepresenting what people would actually do. Every single time Fraisier gets her grubby mitts on a module or AP, there has to be someone "struggling" with their situation. It's like clockwork.

I wouldn't have an issue with it given I'm part of the LGBT community myself, but for a couple glaring problems:

1. The writing for these characters is often shallow, as they're inserted as set pieces rather than important characters. These characters are blatantly just inserted to pander to the LGBT crowd, which hurts their design as a whole. Prime example being the Lesbian/Trans couple in Wrath of the Righteous. That wasn't a thing that needed to be there. Why was it? Lesbians I could get behind, but why put together a huge elaborate backstory that players will often neither like nor care about because of the contrivance?

2. The writing for the characters in question is atrocious, because said characters are constantly holding the idiot ball. Say someone doesn't want to be a man anymore - they want tits and to get rid of their junk. Sure, that's reasonable. I did a little bit of checking and it should only be a level 2 spell for an an instantaneous "swap gender" effect. meaning, even if you're not a spellcaster that can do it yourself after researching the spell or buying it from someone, you can save up 500 gold and have it cast for you by the local wizard. I did the math; even a peasant should be able to afford that after two or three years of saving, assuming they're not spending extra stuff. Adventurers? Please. Adventurers regularly spend thousands of gold to get a measly +1 boost to their weapon. and yet all the characters that come up in this are adventurers or related to adventurers. The characters just aren't believable.

If magic was a thing I could learn from a book? I would become a transmuter wizard specifically for this shit. Fringe benefits aside (like being tier 1), that's not that hard to do
>>

I'm super hyped to play mine. The recovery is nice, but THP and a bonus to one Fort save doesn't really strike me as particularly ridiculous, especially since it's one of the few ways to actually "heal" a party in combat that isn't total garbage.

I've been playing Black Desert all this last couple weeks, and the single most enjoyable thing in that game is probably the fact that i can load up a wagon and then take it to another country where I can offload my goods at a marked up price.

It'd be slightly boring in a tabletop format, but that's easily solved by political intrigue, a war affecting your trade routes, random encounters on the road, the merchants guild breathing down your collective neck, and so on and so forth. I'd frankly love a campaign like this, but everybody instead just seems to go for the classic "And then our lives were threatened and the kingdom was maybe saved as a result" thing.

Another good one is doing a grave robbery for some emergency funds - you need them because the exploration boat your company put together was destroyed by a kraken on the open ocean. As such, if you ever want to get to that unknown continent over yonder, you nee to put together another boat, pay extra for sailors that don't believe in bad luck, and then go out to sea with your ship to ward off the inevitable sea monster attacks.

Your reward? Solitary claim for your company to the trade routes leading to another continent. and by the time you finally get home, you can watch the money roll in. Even if there aren't natives for you to trade with, you can start farming and hunting and bringing home the "exotic" things you find.

Yes, right next to the Worldwound, they sold a half-orc paladin's magic anti-demon sword to buy an extremely expensive potion to genderswap him into a girl. If you find it later on you learn that in the hands of a sufficiently powerful paladin the thing is basically a Holy Avenger. And they hocked it. In the Worldwound. And as >>46436102 points out, who gives a shit? These are part 1, maybe part 2 characters. In part 4 of WotR you GO IN TO THE ABYSS. Romantic and gender issues of pissants you met earlier go right out the window when you have to risk getting mind-raped by Nocticula or trapped forever in the Ivory Labyrinth. You can't even save Naderi. What makes you think your brother will EVER come back to you?

Dou-Bral is DEAD, as is your father Thron. You know this, and yet you continue to live in denial.

Isn't it time you learned to let go?

It's a term that I think gareth uses occasionally to refer to abilities that are mostly fluff. Stuff like skill bonuses or minor SLAs. I think it's because it makes the class look pretty? Idk.

>>46437000
Yeah, QOL buff is a good way to describe it.

My character is actually going to rescue the Prince in Chains in the near future. I got a certain edge that previous attempts haven't Being in charge of my own plane (Not demi-plane mind you) means I can block and lock out all attempts at entry from anyone, including Zon-Zon Its going to be very fun trying to survive that one

It's a term that WotC coined in one of their design articles. Ribbon abilities help flesh out fluff or provide a feeling, but don't have mechanical significance or impact. Tongue of Sun and Moon on Monk, f'rinstance, is a ribbon. Many classes and races have ribbons; where classes and races go wrong is in weighting ribbons at the same level as real abilities.

Oh boy, imagine what Zon-Zon will become if he's ever redeemed.

What will Shelyn even *do* when her greatest goal is accomplished?

I dunno, spend the next few millenniums mopping up the mess her brother made of the Shadow Plane? It's not like she's a terribly useful god; even Dou-Bral contributed SOMETHING to the big fight with Rovagug, but where was she?

Moral support is an important job! She gave the other gods a reason to fight, protect that smile!
>>
>>46437173

Anon, you and I both know Shelyn would be fully in control of her mental faculties.

>>46437180

I think Zon-Zon would be the one fixing his mess in the Shadow Plane, Shelyn would be busy fixing her papa with the help of her newest Champion (the guy or girl that fixed her brother.)
>>
>>46437197
>implying anyone capable of redeeming a god would settle for being a mere champion
>implying they wouldn't take Shelyn's divinity and make Shelyn their cocksleeve herald
>>
>>46437193
I did. His Will save is 2 less than it was with pre-change Cura Te Ipsum, and his Reflex lower, but having a good Will save all the time makes that easier to swallow.

Anon I'm going to make this post short and very sweet because we're on Page 9, but the type of hero that would redeem Zon-Zon without trying to rip out his mantle of divinity is the type of hero that would not try to beat down Shelyn and turn her into a broken rape-toy.

We're talking about love here, anon. The kind of pure, sweet love that Shelyn specializes in. Sure you could try to insinuate this might turn into toxic love, but toxic love is Zon-Zon's specialty, and you're redeeming him.
>>
>>46437141
Drunken incest that doesn't stop for the next decade.
>>
>>46437302
wow gg you completely misread my post and failed to be short or sweet

i mean maybe you're a manlet, you sound like one, that'd count for the first bit
>>
>>46437263
While I liked the old Cura Te Ipsum, it was really swingy, and I think that overall having a steady will save is going to serve the class better in the long run.

BTW Thanks for letting me peek at your build. It looks like a lot of fun. I'll have to update my old pre-release medic and compare notes.
>>
>>46437324
>wow gg you completely misread my post and failed to be short or sweet

>If I'm able to redeem a god I'm going to just steal Shelyn's divinity and make her my cock-hungry subordinate

That's literally what you said.
>>
>>46437372
>not being rewarded Shelyn's divinity since you're obviously more competent to be a god than her
>not accepting her love and having a monogamous relationship

What's wrong with you?
>>
>>46437302
To be fair, I'm only going to redeem his Herald (Her father).
Redeeming Zon-Kuthon is way, way beyond my pay grade, even by my incredibly hubritic standards.
>>
>>46437409

To be fair, it's not so much redeeming Zon as figuring out how to scoop out the THING from the Dark Tapestry wearing him like a jacket without killing Dou-Bral.
>>
>>46437408

"Make Shelyn my cocksleeve herald" implies a bit more than just being in a cute monogamous relationship.

Also being able to redeem Zon-Zon doesn't mean you're somehow more competent than Shelyn, it means you're a perfect example of what she stands for. That doesn't suggest you're better than her so much as it suggests you're perfect for her, which is where "being her champion" comes in.
>>
>>46437466
>Shelyn has been unable to help Daddy or ZonZon for millenia
>I do it in one mortal lifespan
>I am not objectively superior to Shelyn somehow
??????????????
>>
>>46437486

Next you're going to tell me every Shelynite that manages to free a soul from her glaive is somehow better than Shelyn, since the Shelynite was able to do what Shelyn couldn't.

That's the literal definition of being better than someone, anon. Are you okay? Do you need your handler? I know you're a big boy now and everything, but you still need to stay in your room with the other special childre--people.
>>
Zon-Zon's old hat. Redemption is old hat! WE'RE ON THAT NEW SHIT NOW!

So, proportionately speaking, how much cuter will Abaddon be once Naderi finally succumbs to the whispers and then immediately steals Zyphus' seat at the big table? Also assume someone will have killed Ahriman by this point, because honestly it's just a matter of time.

I definitely understand why you changed it. It was just another thing that was pushing Medics to want to be Wis-SAD with a Guided weapon should that option be available, I guess and honestly, I prefer my defenses to be always-on, rather than only being on after I do something else.

I like to show 4chan my characters, in hopes that they'll call me a faggot and tell me where I fucked up.

Tarov feels like he is pretty solid, but I'll have to play him to be sure.
