Is there anything special about which Land Raider I decide to run? Like does the Redeemer benefit from Salamanders chapter tactics? Crusader benefit from Imperial Fists chapter tactics?
>>
>>46344714
Transport capacity? And I think the chapter specific special rules only apply to units with Chapter Tactics if I'm not mistaken.
>>
>>46344790

So it really doesn't matter, as far as mechanics goes?
>>
Hello all, new player here, I'm going to buy the Start Collecting! Skitarii box set, could I have any advice in regards to the game? I have pdfs of the Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus codices, as well as the 7th edition rules.

I'm afraid that I've never built nor painted a model, might I have some assistance in regards on how to do so?

I made a thread earlier, in case you'd wish to answer my questions there, instead of in here.

>>46344175
>>
>>46344832
Well, certain Land Raiders may fit your force better than others, but it's nothing as clear cut as 'this one has flamers, take it with Salamanders', unless you're trying to be fluffy.

I think the only mechanical advantage one chapter has with Land Raiders is Black Templars, since their Crusader squads can take a Crusader as a dedicated transport, which gives it objective secured.

Redeemer has the best sponsons. Crusader has the best transport capacity and most useful sponsons. Regular is just bad and has mixed roles. LC sponsons are nice but you have zero capacity and why need AV14 assault transport for a long range tank? Just take Predators or Devastators or even Razorbacks nstead

Well, I don't know as many details about Ad Mech specifically, though for general advice, always plan out how you're going to assemble things before gluing, and try not to use too much.

For painting, it's often easier to plan out your color scheme and paint the individual pieces separately before gluing them. Always remember to prime first, and thin your paints so you're not just glopping it on heavily. If you want more detailed advice, the /wip/ thread has much more info about color schemes and painting methods, as well as some guides which might help.

So my group is looking at getting into a mapped campaign as fuel for our weekly battles. We've never done it before and we don't know how we are going to do it.

Anyone know some good sources on how to go about running one? We wanna go the full shebang with moving armies around the maps, planetary bonuses etc etc. Things I've read are helpful, but usually designed for a few editions ago.
>>
>>46345006

You sort of have to put them in a Drop Pod or some kind of transport. Stock DS is never an option for LC TEQ unless you just want to use them as a 175 point throwaway unit.

Sometimes you can pull off amazing things with them though like deep striking into multi level ruins, surviving, and charging successfully. Or if your opponent is retarded and lets you charge.

New Necron player from last thread. Figured out a CAD I guess I will build towards instead of just running the two formations.
Destroyers seem really cool and my current Overlord with twenty warriors is pretty boring. Putting the warriors in Ghost Arks makes them way more durable and mobile and frees up my HQ to become a Destroyer lord.
I may want to bring back my triarch stalker just for another big gun because my list doesn't have too much high strength. (though it is all gauss so that could be okay)

HQ: Destroyer Lord - 155
>Veil of Darkness
>Warscythe
TROOPS: 2 units of 10 Warriors - 235 each
>both in Ghost Arks
FAST ATTACK: 3 Canoptek Wraiths - 129
>Whip Coils
3 Destroyers with 1 Heavy Destroyer
HEAVY: Canoptek Spyder 75
>Fabricating Claw Array
>Gloom Prism
>Twin Linked Particle Beamer

So I just got out of a game with an Imperial Fists player. I played guard.

Around the bottom of turn 2 he drop-podded a squad of Legion of the Damned onto my flank. I was NOT prepared for how tough those guys are.

>>

Thanks, friend. I am not a fluff master.
>>
>>46345650

Being honest, they did very little, but the 3++ caught me completely off guard when he saved through an entire Tempestus Command squad's worth of Hot-Shot volley guns.

Then they spent two turns completely failing to kill a single wyvern before killing one HWS in melee and dying to said MT command squad...in melee.

Still, though....he seemed to enjoy using them...
>>
>>46345208
I'd separate out the destroyers into different squads. I'd also drop the spyder upgrades to get an invun on your lord.

They're a really fun unit but yeah they can only do so much even with all the fantastic stuff they have. Did he not have the FNP guy with them or something? They're one of those units you need to put points into to get anything out of them.

Another weird thing I've seen people use them for is AA, you bring a min squad and an ADL. Then when they turn up have them man a quad gun, spraying out ignores cover shells into the air on turn 3+.

>>
>>46345917

No, you have to use the matching army for the formation. The symbol for that formation is KDK so it's KDK only unless it has italics in the rules saying it may also be taken in other armies.

Same way Blood Angels may not use vanilla formations like Skyhammer, but CAN use vanilla units like Contemptors because it has text saying it may be taken in other marine codexes.
>>
>>46345930
So obviously I couldn't, say, roll the WL trait, but the rules (everything getting Counter-Attack, -2 on fear checks) still applies?
>>
>>46345917
it is a daemonkin formation, not a daemon formation, but you can take it anyway

You can any number of formations and detachments in a battleforged army, and they do not all have to be from the same faction

As it happens, Daemonkin and Daemons are Battle Brothers, so there is no penalty for having a formation of Daemonkin fighting alongside formations or detachments of daemons.
>>
>>46345948

If you make your Warlord from the formation, you will be a KDK army with KDK warlord traits. If you stick with your Daemons army and use your Daemon Warlord, you will be a regular Daemon army like usual, but with the Charnel Cohort also included in your army as a KDK detachment.

Stop thinking about your army as one thing. It's no longer like that. Each army is now multiple mini armies with the warlord determining the main detachment.

They kick wholesale ass with Jezzails
>>
>>46346154
They can fuck shit up when taken in a squadron because they are so cheap in points (not in cash), they move super fast since they can move, run and charge an extra 3', have 5+ cover all the time, and can pour out load of wounds but they are not marine killers due to AP-. Theoretically they should be quite good against xeno armies because they usually have low toughness, worse armor saves, and lack of krak grenade
>>
>>46346238
Seriously man, radium jezzails. 6 To Wound causes an extra 2 Wounds, and they're all AP2 thanks to the Sniper rule. It's just evil.
>>
>>46345357
The map is only 2d when the galaxy is really 3d. In 40k reality the tau systems are much smaller and further away than can be realistically depicted on a 2d map, similar to how maps of earth are always inaccurate as well. The ultramarines haven't destroyed the Tau because in most of the fluff about the Ultramarines the tau are not viewed as an urgent threat, especially when compared to enemies such as chaos and the nids.
>>
>>46346317
The wording of the rule says "a To Wound roll of 6 causes 2 wounds on the target unit", which means a 6 only gives you 1 extra wound, which is okay I suppose because both of those wounds are AP2 and precision shots

Orbital Bombardment is S10 AP1 bro.

75 points also gets C:SM a Damocles Rhino HQ addition which is a Rhino with re-rolls to reserve and an additional bombardment.
>>
>>46346512
For what reason?

It's AU$55 on the main site.

Also to break up the shit posting a bit:

Australians make an insane amount of money relative to the rest of the world because the government sets up bartering committees for wages for pretty much every industry (essentially everybody has a union but a little more limited). Because of this everything costs a asshat and half because that guy at the counter makes $25/hr and the company needs to break a profit. Rent is almost a thousand dollars a month for a one bedroom apartment in a crack stack building. The models are actually relatively cheap when you consider a lot of other entertainment outlets cost a lot more (a video game brand new is almost $100 or more and beer costs around $15 for a six pack).

t. an American who splits his time between both countries.

Also Australia is filled with limp wristed liberals and I don't intend to go back for at least a decade.

Regardless, there's literally no difference between here and there in pay if you factor in the cost of living, thankfully when I go down there I rent the shittiest place ever, keep a cricket bat near my bed, and take advantage of the almost 0.8:1 to exchange rate (though it's getting worse lately).

Opperating a business, even just selling things and doing everything else overseas, is still very expensive. The 50% fuck you Aus is really "Our money is relatively worthless because we make so much of it".

Now, you might say "but then why is the exchange rate pretty solid?". It's because Aus does not do a terrible amount of international trade so other countries do not posses as much of it, this is changing though. Soon the AUD will be like the Peso.

And everytime I need to explain that no, I'm not the Pizza, Mafia, Mandolino kind of Italian, I'm the one that live between mountains, cold and industries.

Yes, you cook well and your people is nicer that ours. But we are not like you.
We weren't even Italians less than a century ago, and some of us still feels like we don't belong to this country.

But we are few, and while we make so much more money that your people, our money is taken away from us, and we have no real power to decide how we want to live, and that's the worst part.

So i just ordered a unit of wulfen at my local store, i have no plans on getting their rules as the bundle is an overpriced piece of shit, but i do like the new models. I had thought building them with thunderhammer/stormshield and have a guy with frostblades act as the leader seeing as the swankicking pose of the actuall leader looks like complete ass.... howeveras im not finding any pictures of the wulfen built with more than one or two hammers anywhere - id love to see their poses with them. Anyone got a link to the manual or any pics of all of them using th/ss? Much appreciated!

They aren't really. I mean, even post-campaign books where the Tau gave thr imperium a genuine bloody nose and proved they can go toe to toe with a genuine imperial attack force, they are still pretty small compared to the galaxy enders.

Moreover, losing utterly to the Tau wouldn't be as big a deal. Being enslaved by an alien empire fucking sucks, but humanity has ridden that pony before and come back strong. Casting down a series of such oppressors was a big part of the imperium's foundation. Worse comes to worst with the Tau, it could *eventually* be done again.

There is no coming back from bring eaten, whether it's nids eating your meat or chaos eating your soul.

This. Orks are probably the least grimdark faction actually. They don't suffer much at all, they really don't feel serious pain (which means they aren't all that brave either, it's not hard to go balls out fighting nonstop when there's no terrifying downside to losing like immense pain) and their society is pretty much fairly run. Grots and such get treated like ass but again, there's no real pain so the worst setup is you're a grot who has to work hard, which is vastly preferable to the bottom rungs of every other society in 40k. Orks are basically utopian by their own definition, maybe 'umies could learn a thing or two.

Granted being a non-ork race enslaved by orks would be shit but even then there's old fluff about owned 'umies who gained the grudging semi-respect of orks as "not half bad, but no ork" by being dead ard.

Not really that's the entire point of the Wolves. Every legion filled a niche and the Wolves niche was to do whatever it took, to fulfill any order even if they didn't like it, and the Emperor needed that.
>>
>>46349838
Yes but when its to the degree that you will accept order changes from a secondary source, especially such a major change, you should stop to think.

I mean, if Emps himself (or a facsimile thereof) had delivered the order change then fine but Russ literally attempted to destroy a legion at the command of a second party, not the Emperor.
>>
>>46349871
>or a facsimile thereof
That's literally what Horus was as the warmaster, he had all the Emperor's authority in commading the armed forces of the Imperium

Not really, it'd be like you telling your immediate superior ''listen, I know Im meant to carry out the punishment but the General told me it was to be imprisonment, not execution. Can you get the General on the phone to confirm that for me?''

Horus had the Emperors authority in matters of war. This was an issue of punishment, ergo not Horus' domain.

It was both since punishment was a de-facto war. besides if it was such a radical change why didn;t Valdor say anything? he was closer than almost anyone to the Emp and would have known if Horus' order was such a departure from what the Emperor ordered.
>>
>>46350029
Well, asking the president if that is definitely his order seems logical when you consider its a General and all his men on the block.

I mean, if it was a grunt or something then whatever but its an army and their commander. Surely that would warrant a direct command from the President?

>>46350040
Well, it was a pretty major change. The original order was to arrest Magnus, peacefully if possible but by force if needs be. Wiping them all out is a pretty big departure from that.

Unless Tzeentch is going to be getting constant releases for the foreseeable future, a la Khorne Bloodbound, the Greater will be coming this summer. Which means TDK.

There was a colossal Warp Storm blocking Guiliman. Waiting it out rather than risk being torn apart in the immaterium or popping out into a traitor ambush.

Plus the Scouring could've been wildly different had the segmentum pacificus been sacked and turned to Chaos.

Most people do which is kinda why I like having the debate.
Everyone assumes Russ was a bloodthirsty psychopath who was looking for a reason to kill.
Everyone forgets that Horus planned the heresy out long before hand like a chess match, making sublte moves to influence how things turn out

Can I get a source for that? I have this post by sad panda (my bad, I had the author wrong) (in reference to not getting a new CSM book this year)

"If you think of a full new CSM Codex 7th Ed. with a full overhaul of rules and/or models, you're probably right.

If you mean absolutely nothing for Chaos Marines, you'll be wrong.

It is true that 2016 will have (among other things) a (mostly AoS) Tzeentch-theme running through it, similar to how 2015 had Khorne.

The reason there likely won't be a Tzeentch Daemonkin, is because GW is doing possible cross-overs a bit more deliberately than the written-over-a-weekend KDK.

That said, just about the only thing in a fairly impressive pipeline of (mostly AoS) Tzeentch that is NOT ready or even sculpted yet, is the LoC. If he comes, he'll be the tail end, possibly as late as 2017, not the kick-off to Tzeentch the way the Bloodthirster was for Khorne"
