Reposting from last thread, need some advice on gameplay for my vivisectionist:

>>tfw my DM won't let me buy high-level potions so no alchemical allocation/+5 barkskin shenanigans

What potions are best to use with alchemical allocation? I was thinking as high a level of barkskin as possible, heroism, and greater magic fang.

Any other ones I missed? I'll be using infusions of bull's strength and enlarge person in poisoner's gloves on my monkey tumour familiar, whilst necking a bountiful bottle (move action because of accelerated drinker) and mutating with master chymist as a standard action (assuming it's a standard action). I'll be drinking the high level potions I bought with alchemical allocation for longer-lasting buffs.

Should make me a combat monster, especially since I'm going vivisectionist. I could use invisibility instead of enlarge person, which would allow me to hit with sneak attacks on my natural attacks thanks to feral mutagen.

Not sure if this is what they're talking about, but Tzimisce are an eastern european bloodline of vampires. Their powers include fleshcrafting, which means they can modify creatures to make them better, worse, battle ready or permanently disfigured. Apparently they got this from aliens, but that got retconned! Known uses for fleshcrafting are schlatza, body transformation, and citadels of flesh and being eaten by the clan sire because vicissitude is actually them making their way into every vampire to eat them from the inside out when they get hungry enough.

Alchemist? You also get a Mutagen for an additional stat boost, plus your choice of Bombs or Sneak Attack. Also Brew Potion, so you can make your own potions of those spells and have them always available.

>>46189387
The problem with the bracers is that they require a swift and only last one round for a total of three times a day.

I'm also considering just plain buying pots to drink which may end up costing the same as a couple of pearls of power throughout my career till I can afford to get a permanencied enlarge.

So who here has played through this adventure module? I find the concept and all the rules and stat ups for things like landmines, machine guns and mustard gas fascinating, but at the moment my game group has several campaigns already planned, on top of needing to work through the earlier parts of the adventure path, so I'm probably not going to use it any time soon. What did you think of it if you did, and has anyone adapted the rules for modern weapons and troop combat into a homebrew game of any kind?

I don't mind the doubling up there, since there's a significant enough difference between the extraplanar invade-to-fuck-with-deities asuras and the native infiltrate-to-fuck-mortals rakshasa.

I'm more annoyed by the oni, as they're way too close the rakshasa, but don't even have a clear identity as a group (can have any evil alignment, have variants for every race that don't actually work together, etc).

I suppose kami have the same issue with regards to good outsiders, but they get a pass because it's not like anyone ever gave a shit about the kami anyway.

So overly complicated and verbose that it literally cannot fit into one post.

>Battle in Dreams
>Sleeping Goddess (Boost) [Mind-Affecting]
>Level: 9
>Prerequisites: 4 Sleeping Goddess maneuvers
>Initiation Action: Swift
>Range: 100 ft.
>Target: 1 creature
>Duration: Instantaneous (see text)
>Save: Will partial
>At the pinnacle of the Sleeping Goddess discipline, its masters do not do battle in the physical world at all. Instead, they draw their foes into their dreams and attack the very underlying concepts of their being, subverting or maiming the essence of their minds. When you use this maneuver, you create a demiplane of dreaming and transport yourself there along with one foe. The demiplane appears functionally identical to the general area the two of you are located in with strange alterations - blood might appear to rain from the sky, or a titanic tree might appear to hang in the sky. Within the dream, you and your foe have difficulty maintaining your physical forms, taking on metaphorical or symbolic shapes (you and your foe might become warring city-states, or you might turn your foe into a mountain range and yourself into a river wearing the mountain down to dust).

>Upon activating this boost, you take one full round of actions; your targeted foe then takes one full round of actions. While battle in dreams is in effect, creatures outside the dream are invulnerable to creatures within the dream’s attacks and spells; creatures within the dream cannot target such creatures with any attack or spell. During these dream rounds, you gain a +1 circumstance bonus on all attack rolls, damage rolls, ability checks, saving throws, and skill checks for every 6 initiator levels you have, as the dream contorts to always grant you an edge. Neither you nor your opponent may recover maneuvers in the dream.
>>
>>46190278
>>46190470

>At the end of your foe’s dream turn, you each return to your original conditions and locations, and you resume your turn as normal. Resources expended in the dream remain expended in reality (such as maneuvers, spells, and magic items), but otherwise only hit point damage and ability damage either of you does to the other transfers into reality - to outside observers, wounds simply appear out of nowhere. All other actions taken in the dream, such as changing stances, applying helpful and harmful conditions (like a haste spell or stunning an opponent), healing, or changing the environment (like wall of stone) revert when the dream rounds end; your foe inherently understands these restrictions.

>Augment You can augment this maneuver in the following ways:
>For every 6 power points you spend, you gain an additional +1 circumstance bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, ability checks, saving throws, and skill checks during your dream round.
>If you spend an additional 15 power points and expend psionic focus, any movement you and your foe make is preserved after the dream ends. In addition, your circumstance bonuses and your foe’s penalties remain until the beginning of your next turn.

I like the idea of "personal reality bubble to battle in" but this was a SHIT execution.

Hopefully they write a better way.

If you don't want to stray too far afield, Fantasy Craft is pretty fun and OGL so it's vaguely similar to PF (although a lot of the core system assumptions are very different - iteratives don't exist and spells work on a spellpoint system, for example)

There's a whole mess of ruleslight stuff you could learn if you want something easy and fast to run.

If you wanna try something different, there's a bunch of different systems out there. I like Infinity's RPG for cyberpunk future stuff, one of the old Marvel Universe RPGs is my favorite supers system, there's always GURPS!

If you wanna go full weeb, Tenra Bansho Zero is pretty awesome.

Custom magic items can (generally be made) I believe it's the bonus squared*1000, so a +10 would cost 10,000, +20 would be 40,000 and +30 would be 90,000. You could always try and convince your dm to let you increase the price of the lower items to make them a different bonus type so they stack. As long as you're not an incantatrix that shouldn't be too broken.

I have to admit, I really like The Hellfire Compact, the first book of Hell's Vengeance. Wesley Schneider comes up with enough reasons to get an evil party to work together, but I'm really satisfied by his use of the NPC village folk, reusing them in multiple scenarios, giving them enough personality and making it so that being a mega-douche to them isn't as easy as you think it will be. While you do feel a little sorry reading about what happens to them, you are outright encouraged and rewarded for doing so. Still, the adventure gives you a lot of leeway, a ton more than normal APs do.

In a normal AP, the players are expected to kick in the door and murder everyone because they're Evil, but in Hellfire Compact, you can play around a lot. You could murder every person you lay eyes on, but that would not just upset your boss and turn the town against you faster, but you can choose to have multiple solutions. You can kill them or, as agents of the Baron, throw them in the stocks/jail for some public humiliation. You can shake them down and force them to pay you to let them off with a warning or just beat them senseless to teach them a lesson. It doesn't make assumptions on how you play and gives a lot of freedom. Langacre could be a pristine gem of your tyrannical rule or a flaming wreckage by the time you get done with it, your choice. And it doesn't try and make you feel guilty with heavy handed maudlin tactics.

There's so much opportunity to play, you can go through the game feeling totally justified for your dick-ass behavior.
>It's not my fault the innkeeper has to be executed, he's a Wereboar after all. He's a monster!

The final boss, the Angel Knight, is probably the best thought out villain for a first issue AP since Nualia.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest. I have high hopes in Rob McCreary.

Tell me GM fampais, what enjoyment do you derive from running an AP? The way I see it, most GMs use them as training wheels to practice before running their own story.

Is it for the ERP maybe? Or just for the opportunity to witness how bad/good the players make of each situation?

I GM myself of course, but only use my own stuff and derive most of my enjoyment from the tactics end of combat where I control varied groups of units vs PCs.
>>
I'm looking into playing a tiefling that dual wields repeating crossbows. I would be taking five levels in gunslinger (bolt ace archetype) for dex to damage and better crits. I'd be using my tail to reload the crossbows.

A) I know the build is suboptimal, and whilst I'm looking for it to be fun I don't want to be completely useless in combat. Will I be at least moderately useful I.e. tier 4?
B) is there a way for me to get iterative attacks whilst dual wielding repeating crossbows?
C) would it be better to use heavy crossbows or light crossbows? With TWF am I right it would be -2/-2 for light and -4/-4 for heavy?
D) what class should I go into after gunslinger?

For me its about not wasting time building stat blocks from scratch and running a group through a theme adventure they want to try out. For someone with a full time job, it's a amazing time saver. I get to focus on RPing more than combat and the players spend more time interacting with the world and each other than waiting for their turn to come around.

It also has appeal of seeing how players react and deal with set scenarios which they then go on to share in story form with other players. Back in the day, a lot of people could relate to each other after playing through the same modules and their 'We Did This' stories.

>You channel the momentum of your attacks into a leaping dance, allowing you to maneuver across the battlefield with every blow. Makes sense, they get all the enjoyment of people begging for their DM dick and bail when it goes from fun to obligation.
>>
>>46191598

You can, depending.

The wording of the boost is "until the start of your next turn", which implies that it can be used when it's not your turn. Otherwise it would be "until the end of your turn".
>>
>>46191598
No, but Paizo rules text often forgets this anyway.
>>
>>46191673
No idea what your talking about, But that wording is just to make it clear that it lasts through everyone elses turn that round, but is not up for your next action. Not that you can use it any time.
Usually.
>>
>>46191673
Free actions can't be used off-turn, though.
>>
>>46191704

I'm talking about Endless Current.

If it wasn't intended to let you move during others' turns, then the wording would be "until the end of your turn". This is to allow AoOs and counters to let you move around.
>>
>>46191673
>>46191699
The answer is these two together. Devs just forget this all the time, so while strict RAW is "you can't", the intent in this particular case is made clear just by the fact that it lasts until the start of your next turn instead of the end of your turn.

Some free actions can. The important part about free actions is that they usually occur as part of another action, so for example you can draw an arrow (free action) and fire it as an AoO if you have Snap Shot, even though it's not your turn. You can't take free actions that occur by themselves like dropping a held item unless it's your turn, although that's always up for debate.

In this case though, you get a free action to move as part of an attack, including AoOs.

IMMORTAL TRUTHS OF THE SLEEPING GODDESS
Discipline: Sleeping Goddess (Strike) [mind-affecting]
Level: 9
Prerequisites: Four Sleeping Goddess maneuvers
Initiation Action: 1 standard action
Range: Melee or ranged attack
Target: One creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Standing at the pinnacle of the Sleeping Goddess discipline’s students, you have the ability to share your beliefs in a way that no others can. By making contact with your opponent’s mind and soul, you can open a dialogue, communicating your respective ideals instantaneously and debating their merits. Make an attack. If it hits, it deals an additional 10d6 points of damage. If this damage would reduce the target to 0 or fewer hit points, you can attempt to convert them to your way of thinking, clashing beliefs in a brief moment of spiritual contact. If you do, you and the target make an opposed ability check, with you using your initiation modifier and the target using its Charisma modifier. If the target succeeds, they take damage as normal, potentially killing them or knocking them unconscious. If you succeed, the target is instead reduced to 1 hit point, and their attitude towards you and your allies changes to helpful.

>>
>>46190470
>>46190489
>>46192780
This is not a compulsion, nor is it forcing the target to follow your orders, but rather the result of a spiritual conversation that took place in the instant of the strike. The target now understands your beliefs and ideals and either believes in them as well or respects your belief enough to be unwilling to oppose you. Regardless of whether or not the target succeeds on their check, you gain a deep understanding of their own beliefs and ideals. While you have this maneuver readied and unexpended, you automatically know the current hit point total of each creature within your melee reach.
Augment: You can augment this maneuver in one or more of the following ways:

I get too much benefit out of that extra Charisma mod to sacrifice it for a mere one skill rank per level; I need as much Cha as I can get if I want my cruelties to actually go off on anything. >>
>>46193773

Optimistic. You can just drop them and invest points elsewhere, like not dumping any stats. The original question did want to avoid that.
>>
>>46193708
I could drop my Dex to a 12 and buy back the Int that way, but I'm going for a in-the-thick-of-it buff/heal-auras role (Dread Vanguard stuff), and I know that makes me the prime target for enemies, so I'm kinda terrified of not having enough AC.

And before you say it, I know AC is the worst defense, but frankly I don't trust our caster players to provide cantrips, let alone proper defensive buffs.

>>46193669
>>46193718
My array is 17 15 12 12 10 7 currently. Statline is 16 14 12 8 9 18 after racials and every-4th-HD points. Yeah my race is super not optimal, got no choice tho
>>
>>46191296

A.) If you can manage to keep a steady stream of bolts going, you should be OK as long as your party isn't highly optimized and your GM's writing scenarios based on what the party can actually do (this is surprisingly not the case for many GMs.)
B.) You're really going to need to come to an understanding with your GM here, because you're up the creek without a paddle RAW. It's a free action to reload and keep firing until you run out of bolts in your repeater box thingy, but the rules do say you need a hand available to do that. If your GM is allowing the prehensile tail to reload a repeating crossbow (a task normally requiring two hands) he should probably also allow you to flick that switch without having a hand free, but you're going to be relying on his houserule there.
C.) Light crossbows. You're correct that Heavy crossbows incur a heavier TWF penalty, and you're gonna need accuracy more than your average gunslinger.
D.) Slayer and Unchained Rogue might offer some appealing sniping options to let you pick your poison between precise single shots and HAIL O' BOLTS, but I will also point out a few levels in the juggler bard can really be good for you because then you can use their juggling thing to have a rules-legal way to always have a hand free even while TWF, which you can use for somatic components and even deflect (and later snatch) enemy ranged weapons, which is not a thing to be sneezed at. Also some spells, skills, and more power to your will save.

How are there so many official races and yet they still haven't actually filled out every possible "+2 to two, -2 to one" ability score combinations?

There are seven races that get +2 dex and +2 cha, and none that get +2 str and +2 int
>>
>>46195744
thats because +2 str +int is kind of insane

Scaleheart Skinwalkers used to get it

Correct.

If y'all really want a specific class on there (and can supply a reasonably tier 3 version), go on and make a pull request adding it. There's a reason I put it on Github.
>>
>>46195897
Because they are, on average, weaker, and the goal of the project is to create a single-source repository of classes with approximately equal power levels. Go ahead and play T4, nobody's stopping you. I love a good Bloodrager. Heck, make a github for T4 classes, if someone wants to play that game! But this isn't FOR that.

Since we're talking about tiers now, proposal: with the publication of PoW:E and the advent of the ability to add maneuvers to its already PHENOMENALLY impressive and flexible repertoire, the Aegis should really be bumped up to tier 2.

I know, that was my answer. Every other combination of stats has a race that does that AND gives you more shit. Str/Int only has Lashunta and Dhampir, and there's good reasons you might not want those.

are there any interesting traits for a buff cleric to take? mainly plan on using bit of luck a bunch in combat and casting support spells.

The latter. Semicolon separates the IUS, the rest of the prereqs are part of the same 'or' clause so you only need one.
>>
>>46196092
Check the punctuation. It has IUS, a semicolon, then BAB 6, a comma, brawler's flurry, a comma, or monk's flurry.

So you need IUS, and then any one of the last three things after the semicolon.

So tier list, tell me if this is right
Tier 6: NPC classes
Tier 5: Does one thing, but not particularly well
Tier 4: Does one thing quite well, but not much else
Tier 3: Is able to hold it's own on on something, while still being able to participate in other areas
Tier 2: Broken shit
Tier 1: Different broken shit every day.
>>
>>46196158

Are you forgetting that you can use unarmed strikes with TWF, or are you purposefully being a moron?
>>
>>46196165
Not necessarily 'broken shit', but having a large-ish array of things that shape the course of a campaign. Shit like Plane Shift, Wish, etc.
>>
>>46196165
basically. But some PC classes are legitimately worse than NPC classes
>>
>>46196165
Yeah. More specifically, t2 lets you break the plot, while t1 lets you break the setting. I think that's generally the agreed-on difference, if any.

>>46196173
TWF is not specifically about unarmed strikes. Improved Unarmed Strike is specifically about learning how to use unarmed strikes better. The feat is about using unarmed strikes better, and as such has another fear specifically about using unarmed strikes better as a prerequisite.

Does it also bother you that Power Attack can't be used, despite it also working with unarmed strikes, or are you just a whiny gimme gimme cunt? Bernie supporter, are you?

>>46196228
Not good, but not T6 from what I saw.
>>
>>46196165
While you have it mostly right, let me put it a different way, though.
Tier 6: Completely at the whims of the GM for their effectiveness
Tier 5: Can influence the campaign in one or two ways.
Tier 4: Can influence the campaign in a few different ways.
Tier 3: Can influence the campaign in a variety of ways.
Tier 2: Can influence the campaign in one or two fundamental ways
tier 1: Can influence the campaign in a variety of fundamental ways.

See, the tier list isn't "automatically everything is broken" at either end. It's a scale for how much influence a character has over a campaign based on the chassis their class gives them; it's why players can be perfectly happy with a fighter, a sorcerer, a cleric, and a rogue all in the same party.

Combat effectiveness can come into it, yes, but that's a side effect of the influence they carry, not a directed consequence.

>>46196234

Dreamscarred Press makes good classes and archetypes if you want to use gauntlets. The one you've shown in particular is probably a Fiendbound Marauder Warder, though sadly it's not combatible with the light-armor archetype Warder.

And there's Monk of the Silver Fist.

Brawler. The Fighter Archetype.

Since Gauntlets are in the Close group, the Brawler's tasty damage bonus works on them. Get Trained Grace to double it. Provided your DM goes with the logical reasoning that Close Combatant is and counts as Weapon Training.

Avenger Vigilantes can also get a talent which boosts the damage of their attacks with fists or gauntlets, which can be combined with Lethal Grace for some nice damage.

Okay, /pfg/:

What can I do to make a Medium that doesn't make me want to be buried alive but that also doesn't make the best character in the party?

>Medium is absolute shit
Yeah, I know, but I'm very experienced with PF and I'm playing a game with totally new people who have a very limited understanding of how to create a character, so I'm trying to play a class that starts at the bottom of the barrel, so that by the end of my optimizing, it'll come close to where their non-optimized characters using useful classes will end up.

>Okay, anon, use this 3pp thing and this other 3pp thing.
Sorry, like I said, the other players are new and we're limiting the number of sub-systems we're going to allow, which I completely agree with. I don't want to have to explain to someone who just grasped the concept of casting how Akashic Mysteries or Spherecasting differs from what they're doing, and I absolutely don't want them to feel like I'm just making shit up or getting special privileges from the GM that they don't have access to.

>Nightmare mode
I do not want to just take feats/abilities that benefit one or maybe two of the Legends and call it a day. It's not my aim to optimize the shit out of a Champion Medium and just use that every day. The party is lacking a face, skill monkey, dedicated heavy melee, and dedicated Arcane problem-solver, all roles that I am capable of filling, to some degree, as long as I put some effort into each category, instead of just going strictly for Archmage and leaving everything else behind.

GM is experienced and knows how to run something that won't totally slaughter us despite our low power level (he claims). He has seen the FAQ which indicates that Mediums are allowed to contact Legends regardless of their Favored Locations, and is cool about it, explaining that he's going to be really lenient and pretty much let me bind whatever I need as long as it makes even a little sense.

Thoughts on feats? Items? General tips?
>>
>>46196427
You'll still end up more powerful than them all, considering how low the barrel of optimization level goes, and it will give them a distorted vision of which classes are stronger.
You need to show them the truth of the situation. Optimize a wizard, and teach them how prepared fullcasters are a blight to be despised, and then introduce them to Spheres/PoW systems.
>>
>>46196313
>>46196314
>>46196317
>>46196323

I'm not too familiar with PoW. So are Maneuvers pretty much like martial super moves (martial spells) that you know and can prep? And stances are sort of like spell like abilities? Just trying to get an understanding here, because it looks neat.
>>
>>46196427
Spirit Dancer archetype, so you can switch off spirits per combat, and then fill whatever role is needed at the time and least overlaps with what the other characters are doing. That way you can be useful without making the other players feel like you're outshining them.
>>
>>46196463
That's pretty close actually, stances once activated are like passives in LoL, and you prepare maneuvers like spells but it takes much shorter time and you recover maneuvers more quickly.
>>
>>46196463
Maneuvers are basically low-level spells that you set up in the morning, and your class has ways to "recover" them during combat. Between combats, in the slow time, you just recover them.

Stances are basically "pick one stance, you get its benefits as long as you're in it, which is until you change to a different one".
>>
>>46196463
Each maneuver is an Ex ability by default, and once used has to be refreshed (how depends on the class) before you can use it again. Generally speaking they work more or less like spells in terms of actions, targeting, etc. Some maneuvers are Su type and are explicitly magical (like how Veiled Moon stuff has teleportation).

Stances are indefinite duration. You can only have one active at a time (you switch as a swift action on your turn), but they last until you switch to a different one, you turn it off, or you're rendered helpless or unconscious.
>>
>>46196506
>LoL

How the fuck is League the first thing you think of that has passive effects?
>>
>>46196506
>>46196528
>>46196531

Thank you kindly! So one last thing. Any Maneuver or stance suggestions for a Fiendbound Marauder?
>>
>>46196463
Also, for any maneuver that has you make an attack, you can combine that with stuff like Power Attack (which applies to "attacks"), but not with stuff like Vital Strike (which is an "attack action").

Similarly, since most maneuvers are standard actions, you can't use them with Two-Weapon Fighting or full attacks, but some maneuvers will specifically have you make multiple or extra attacks.
