Alright, sorry for bringing up even more Skyrimfaggotry, but I've been finally playing through the main questline so a lot of questions have sprung up.

One of my biggest is about how apparently learning a word of power means bringing that power into yourself. So learning Dragonrend, with all its anger and hate poured into it, would bring that anger and hate into you. How can that be? What does the thu'um change?
>>

>>46121437
A hermaphrodite? Not technically, afaik, though he could probably pull a Loki and turn into a female horse if we wanted to. He just embodies duality and androgyny.
>>
>>46121443
When you learn a Word, you aren't just getting new vocab. You're taking the raw concept of that word into yourself.

So, knowing Yol for example means that the very concept of fire, the meaning of it's entire existence in the universe, the most base raw understanding of the concept of [FIRE] is now an integral part of your being.
>>
>>46121483
No, he's literally a hermaphrodite. Pre-Heart, even.
>>
>>46121443
Dragonrend was invented by humans, remember? Doesn't have anything in that's not already present in the psyche, that's why it fucks dragons up so much.

It's kinda like the reverse of a character being mind-raped by cthullu or what have you.

>>46121505
Well, that makes sense to me - fire, change, force, power, stuff like that.

But Dragonrend's power was something along the lines of weakening a dragon by forcing it to feel mortality - which, being creatures of time and more or less permanent, is anathema to them. But how could mortality scar something that is already mortal?
>>
>>46121630
To a mortal, learning about mortality does nothing. But Dragonrend was a shout that was never supposed to exist, and was made with hate and fear. So by learning it you run the risk of some serious soul corruption.
>>
>>46121437
Accordingly to "What My Beloved Taught Me" he always had both kinds of junk.
>>

2nBKTKF.jpg
27KB, 300x300px
>>46121699
So it corrupts the soul because of the fact that it's an impossible shout? Or just because of the hate and fear being corrupting?
>>
>>46121739
I found this
>From Sermon 8: "Vivec then reached out from the egg all his limbs and features, merging with the simulacrum of his mother, gilled and blended in all the arts of the star-wounded East, under water and in fire and in metal and in ash, six times the wise, and he became the union of male and female, the magic hermaphrodite, the martial axiom, the six-death of language and unique in all the middle world. "

Being in the sermons, it's probably just embellishment
>>
Another thread, another debate over Vivec's genitals.
It's good to be home.
>>
>>46121851
Hate and fear if I understand what the Greybeards were telling you correctly. Although the fact that it's unnatural made Alduin spaz out a bit in the flashback.
>>
>>46121912
It's actually not, even though it serves its thematic purpose.
>>
>>46121630
Think about it as computer code. The thu'um is, in a way, learning the syntax of code that causes something to happen in reality in the program. Or the very essence of something that causes it to happen in reality. Like plato notion that there was a perfect word and things in reality were mere imperfect shades of it? Well, the thu'um means you can have bits of this true essence.

Now, back to computer code. Dragonrend is a hack. Its not part of the code. Is designed to glitch it. If you are a monk who spend your life trying to learn to see things for their pure, truthful essence, something which is deliberately anti-natural, should really be offensive to you. Corrupt. Abominant.

>>
Does every prince have specific unique minions? Azura has Winged Twilights, Molag Bal the Xivilai, Mephala the Spider Daedroth. What does someone like Sanguine have?
>>

Fuckbuddies.
>>

>>
>>46122559
Yeah, probably. We've seen somewhere less than 1% of everything in Oblivion.
>>
>>46122559
If I had to guess, I'd say Sanguine probably doesn't have unique minions. He probably snatches up lesser daedra that happen to align with his hedonistic nature, like that one rogue daedroth in Morrowind that ditched Molag Bal to get drunk and fuck stuff.

>So Vivec, who had a grain of Ayem's mercy, set about to teach Molag Bal in the ways of belly-magic. They took their spears out and compared them. Vivec bit new words onto the King of Rape's so that it might give more than ruin to the uninitiated. This has since become a forbidden ritual, though people still practice it in secret.
>>

>>
>>46122966
So Vivec and Molag Bal compared their junk, then Vivec bit Bal in the dick?
>>
>>46123098
He bit part of it off and fashioned a physical spear out of it.
>But Vivec made of his spear a more terrible thing, from a secret he had bitten off from the King of Rape. And so he sent Molag Bal tumbling into the crack of the biters and swore forever that he would not deem the King beautiful ever again.
>Vivec wept as he slew all those around him with his terrible new spear. He named it MUATRA, which is Milk Taker, and even the Chimeri mystics knew his fury. Anyone struck by Vivec at this time turned barren and withered into bone shapes. The path of bones became a sentence for the stars to read, and the heavens have never known children since. Vivec hunted down the biters one by one, and all their progeny, and he killed them all by means of the Nine Apertures, and the wise still hide theirs from Muatra.

>Early literature by man painted the High Elves in poor light, though the impartiality of these accounts is questionable. It was suggested that the Altmer practiced eugenic infanticide, putting to death nine in ten of their newborns due to impurities, that Altmeri names are simply combinations of numbers in their own language, and that Altmer culture revolves around displaying social status.[18] Later writings contain no mention of any of these practices; whether they were fabricated, exaggerated, discontinued, or covered up afterwards is not known.

Reality is a dream. The dreamer is the Godhead who is everything and everyone.
If you realize it's a dream, one of two things happens.
Zero-summing is when you realize you aren't real, and since you are the godhead and therefore reality, reality realizes you aren't real, and you fade from existence like back to the future.
CHIM is when, through will, you realize it's a dream but refuse to believe you aren't real. Like lucid dreaming in reality. You get God powers, but you need to regulate your actions, lest you wake up reality.
>>

The complexity of it is wild when you read player interpretations on the forums (and they're good reads to boot), but I have to agree that it seems unlikely they actually planned these things out, and that it, just like any other religion has simply evolved organically out of a lot of cool and mysterious, but unconnected snippets.

I feel like if I wanted to seriously mod it, I'd have to turn it into a waifu simulator or have a really, really good idea of where I wanted to go with it - not just vaguely 'better than it is.'

If that's true, how strong would that make Jyggy?

Well, he might not be especially strong compared to one of the more warlike Daedric Princes like Malacath or Molag Bal. He's just dangerous because he opposes all of the other Daedric Princes at once, and would willingly exterminate them all, where all the others have their own alliances and fight a little less directly, as far as I know.

Basically if he teamed up with Ebonarm, he would be guaranteed to cut a swathe through most of the weaker princes, and if nothing else he could probably outright destroy one. And no Daedric Prince would want to be that one.

Still, I could be entirely wrong - the fact that he has any real power at all, when he's not directly worshiped by any mortals, shows how powerful Jyggy could potentially be.

You are confusing me too, since what I've always though is that the nords originated from Atmora.
And the question
>Why would the Nords believe they came from the Throat of they know they came from Atmora?
Is exactly what I'm worndering myself too.
I mean in the Annotated Anuad it is clearly stated, that the Ehlnofey that were on atmora became the Nords and as such the Nords as we know them originate from Atmora and not from the Throat
http://www.imperial-library.info/content/annotated-anuad

I mean Ysgramor led the first Nord wave from atmora to tamriel, did he not? And as far as I know that is something that the Nords know, since the Companions in Skyrim make references to Ysgramor so he and what he's done seems to be known.

But maybe they Think that They were men first fleeing from Tamriel to Atmora and then back, not knowing that the Ehlnofey evolved into nords only when they already were on Atmora.
... I hope I make at least some kind of sense here
>>
>>46135293
What? A is depicted in the stained glass window with two heads, highlighting his duality with L.

A=L

T mantles L and becomes a god.

T=L

Therefore T=L=A

I'm not arguing anything except it's more accurate to say T is L first and foremost.

Uh, let me search for a source on Tamriel being the cradle of life. I know the idea is brought up, but it's mostly based a broad reading of the lore as a whole. It just makes sense. Tamriel is the focus of this kalpa. That's why everything happens there. That's why the Ada warred there, convened there, lived there, why the Ra Gada sailed there from the past, the Nords returned and the Akaviri invaded from the future.

It's the here and now. WGT is the center of the wheel.
>>
>>46135418
Well, that depends on if you believe that.

For the purposes of what I assume the original poster was trying to say, T = L. If you want to talk about how he also = A, there's a separate context for that. Why he became a god is all L. Shezarrines, mantling, CHIM. That's L-tok, baby.
>>
>>46126766
It's cool and fun, which is what matters the most.
>>
>>46135463
Nah, they asked why Talos is in the Divines, so I said he's Akatosh and and cares for the Empire. I didn't feel the need to also say that he is that way through Lorkhan, or how he became a god, just that he fits.

You're not technically wrong, it would just be more accurate to say he's Lorkhan. He literally became Lorkhan, filling his empty spot in the pantheon. It has little to so with Akatosh, aside from the fact that A is also L.

Akatosh still exists distinctly

The creative and inventive aspect of Lorkhan as venerated by the Cyrodiils.

I don't buy the "belief shapes the Aedra" theory myself. Partly because it contradicts itself sometimes (like the Daedra having different cultural aspects that behave differently) but mostly because it's boring and generic fantasy and trying to systematize something that doesn't really need to be.

It all started with Glorantha's mythos and in Glorantha mythopoeia in that sense simply does not exist - the Orlanthi and the Praxians have different myths that resemble each other but are not the same and Dawntime is flexible enough to accomodate both and many more. Just like the Dawn Era, of course.

MK throws some hints about nords coming not only from skyrim, but also from the last kalpa.
Though I admit I have no idea what "on the nords lack of creation myth" even means.
Can someone explain to me what this text is actually about and why the nords dont have a creation myth?

>Giving a shit about MK's post Morrowind stuff
His newest lore is either insipid retcons or nonsense to explain away the stuff that doesn't fit his headcanon (the same way he threw a fit about mithril in TES3 when it had been there since game 1) and reminds me of the book of Mormon's clumsy faux KJ english.

I wish his writing could get past "I'm the dude who wrote Morrowind and Redguard, worship me"
>>
>>46135846
It's whiskey flavored, is my point.
>>
>>46135791
But isn't KB writing in character there? That'd be a biased source too then, right?
Anyways, thanks for posting and explaining a bit.

>Can someone explain to me what this text is actually about and why the nords dont have a creation myth?
I guess you could consider this part, a bit of an answer to that

>>
>>46135926

Except it really isn't, as much as you wish it was. The only lore he wrote after Morrowind was minor contract work. Which I'm actually mildly thankful for given how shit it was.
>>
>>46135934
Because it sounds dumb and reinforces fanfiction mentality.
>>
>>46135934
I don't like it because it's an oxymoron. If it's only in your head, it's not canon. If it's canon, it's not only in your head.
>>
>>46135870
You have time to play video games, but no time to mod?
>>
>>46135938
That's just not true. Do you have any opinions that aren't parroted from misinformation others have said?

TES as a whole as we know it stems from an idea MK and Kurt had, further developed with others. After that, no matter what happens, the base is there. The one he built. Everything is derivative of that.

You can argue that what he's done since rhythm isn't good, but that's not the same argument anymore.

I see Kirkbride's muatra is lodged deeply in your throat anon.

Kurt and MK didn't have anything to do with Arena.
>>
>>46136019
Sorry some people want mods fast and easy with little to no real difference. Not everyone views it a serious as you do.
>>
>>46136060
These people should just go play Skyrim.
>>
>>46136051
Are you trying to imply that Arena lore is what we discuss here?
>>
Anyone else want an Elder Scrolls game where you're a free-thinking Daedra struggling for true freedom, even if just for himself? Or is it just me and my incessant desire to RP characters struggling to free themselves of the chains and shackles of expectations they were born under?
>>
>>46136051
See, I'm not talking about Arena, or the generic series it would have continued to be and which we wouldn't be here taking about, if it wasn't for him.

I'm talking about the release of Redguard and the total overhaul of the franchise on every level. While not dismissing Arena and Daggerfall from the table, they have little to do with what I'm talking about.
>>
>>46136066
Backpedal harder. You were basically crediting writers who only joined in for Redguard for making the whole world.

Even Daggerfall is still a thing.
>>
>>46136065

>>46136073

>>
>>46136073

>>
>>46136065
That makes no sense, Morrowind is a 14 years old game, people don't want to learn how to mod it without knowing whether they'll like it or not. MGSO is a godsend for new players, as it makes it look better and includes all the necessary patches.
>>
>>46136085
I'm not even that anon. TES as we now it is from Redguard onwards. That's when metaphysics beyond what a god's name is came about, that's when it stopped being a generic fantasy hack-and-slash.
>>
>>46136092
How is that like Planescape?
>>
>>46135976
Not too much time.
>>
>>46136085
They share similar names. Without the context of the rest of the series, that's it. Khajiit wouldn't even have forms
>>
>>46136082
I don't actually find making the world revolve around his super special RP characters and explaining away every single aspect of cosmology enriching, I find it to remove all mystery, especially when a lot of it is downright dumb and relies on falsely profound seeming proclamation style.

Mantling is about the only worthwhile mythological concept TES added to fantasy.
>>
>>46136100
MGSO is an outdated and badly optimized shit. You either mod manually or get a shitty installation.

>>46136131
Are you, perhaps, retarded? None of that existed before MK. None of it.

You're saying he ruined it by making it.
>>
>>46136127
Khajiit still don't have forms outside of book lore.

>>46136114
Delving too deep into the heart of the metaphysics risks effectively making a universe too reliant on one single view, no matter how interesting it might seem at first.

A universe where interpretatio romana is actually true rather than a vague possibility bugs me tremendously
>>
>>46136146
Or maybe I can just feel free to disregard MK's fanfiction as more than some character's ultimately flawed account.

I've played every TES since Daggerfall, I just don't see the point of proclaiming Kirkbridal Infallibility.
>>
>>46136138
Planescape is about an amnesiac immortal who tries to find out why he won't die, in a strange afterlife where different sections are based on alignment.
Along the way, you aquire several companions that also share the feeling of lingering torment within themselves. The game is more of an interactive novel, and it deconstructs fantasy and asks a question with no true answer: What can change the nature of a man?

It's pretty good, would recomend.
>>
>>46136164
Isn't it great that these are threads about that lore and setting, and not the games themselves? It's also nice how even Betgesda will admit the games aren't anything but an approximation of that setting.
>>
>>46136134
It's good enough, try seeing it from their perspective.
Casuals don't bother playing Morrowind.
You're embarrasing yourself.
>>
>>46136196
That's Torment, specifically.

Also a lot of what TES has, Planescape did it earlier and better (including a less nonsensical, less reliant on Mary Sues version of CHIM)
>>
>>46136164
TES lore is the complete and utter opposite of that. I mean, explicitly. I mean, to the point where "it al happened at once" is the only thing we can agree on when it comes to creation myths. That's the foundation of TES. Someone post the quote by that ESO Colonel Sander's guy about how no lore is delivered from on high.
>>
>>46136210
>Le epig Vivec is MKs Fursona meme
Stop.
And the universe being based on belief and changable through will is a fairly universal concept in fantasy. The universe isn't the dream of a godhead in planescape.
>>
>>46135935
That's somewhat daunting, but you don't have to get into it.

Download Oblivion Mod Manager, and download Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. No need for bashed patches etc.
>>
>>46136134

Back in the day we didn't even have wryebash, you know how long of a pain in the ass process it was to compile mods?
