The Eldrazi were sealed 6000 years ago.

Nahiri awoke from her sleep 1000 years ago.

Avacyn's been around for a thousand years or so.

The Mending was 300 years ago.

where was the events of Invasion in this context?
>>
>>46013021

SOME SHIT was going down on Dominaria, as it always does, except this time THE SHIT was so bad it was cracking the time stream.

A BUNCH OF PLANESWALKERS sacrificed themselves to seal the rifts in the Mending, which also as a consequence depowered all planeswalker sparks (future and current).

Oldwalkers == "It's literally easier for me to reassemble my molecules 90 degrees to the left than to physically turn my whole body."

Neowalkers == Just the power to travel planes, plus whatever they have personally. Bolas flipped out after the mending happened, because his "merely draconic" mind could no longer hold all the knowledge he once had; super alzheimer's.
>>
This card looks really fun.
>>
>>46013010

You're right - I wasn't paying attention when I checked the timeline and went from the pre-Mending temporal chaos that prompted it.

That has it at ~100 years ago.

>>46013021

Basically, Interdimensional Total War fucked up the multiverse. Fixing it had the side effect of repairing reality *too* much, which weakened the nature of being a Planeswalker.

Because of this, Nicol Bolas became an even bigger asshole - though technically a much weaker one - in an attempt to not bleed off his ridiculous powers and become a mere super-dragon.

Take fucking Teferi for instance. When Urza came asking him to join up to fight the invading Phyrexians, he just said "Nah. Peace, nigga" and PHASED AN ENTIRE COUNTRY OUT OF EXISTENCE, figuring "It'll all blow over in a few years. Probably. Fuck it, I don't give a shit either way."

also, did this HAVE to be a rare? come on Wizards..

I just don't see this getting much play (outside of standard, at least) in a format where you have abrupt decay as cheaper, uncounterable, hitting most relevant things, in a better color (green), as well as not bolting you. Kind of a disappointment in all ways, especially since the card itself is kind of a flavor win.
>>
>>46013700

Card will be fantastic in limited and will probably see standard play considering how much it potentially enables while being decent removal by the current standard.
>>
>>46013744
The only non-negligible cost on the card is discarding a card form your hand, which can actually be helpful to cast madness spells. Additionally the self mill along with the discard helps you get to delirium. It's a fine card for limited.
>>
>>46013744
It's obviously meant to be a delirium enabler for limited.

>You now have an enchantment in your graveyard for Delirium.
Enchantments are one of the harder cards to get in your graveyard on purpose too.
What's not to like?
>>
>>46013744
1 life and mill 1 are basically not even downsides because they are so negligible, and discard a card can be an upside in the madness decks that this format will inevitably have in standard. youre an idiot if you think this card is no good
>>
>>46013744
BB, 1 life, 1 discard, 1 mill for a pseudo instant kill spell.
1 life is nothing, and the discard+mill may even be advantageous to you. Definitively worth in standard.

>>
>>46013873
Of course, jumping right to the ad hominems instead of addressing the point.
Blue is the worst color in modern and the worst color in standard. If you deny this, we can safely disregard any other opinions you have on game balance.
>inb4 b-b-but muh jeskai black! Muh blue Jund!
The only reason blue is even played in Standard is for Jace, Dig, Cruise, and sometimes Reflector Mage. Blue is a shit color and has been for years.
>>
>>46013873
>they will actually pay for it with something.
Honestly I feel this is the weirdest flavor thing in magic. Black is willing to make deals to get shit done, yet blue is better at getting power like enchantments and stuff, has a wider variety of powers, and can casually get the knowledge it needs while black doesn't.
Honestly Black should get more instant card draw at an extra, non-mana cost while blue gets no extra cost, but more sorcery speed stuff or more expensive instant.

You can still counter it when its cast though. Its not always gonna land t1
>>
>>46014066

>>
>>46014146
you can interact with the removal spell, give the creature hexproof, bounce it, all sorts of shit.

a creature on the stack against a counter spell has no interaction beyond your own counter spells.

that is the huge, giant difference, shit in the field has alot more interactivity and stuff that can be replied to.

Blue counters demand blue counters or fuck off.
>>
>>46014155
You're playing black, you should already have creatures in your graveyard that you put there yourself, but if you really are that desperate to go delirious, then yeah that works.

Okay, you had me up until you said this. Delver/Poner/Mana Leak, Supreme Verdict/Sphinx's Revelation, Mono-Blue Devotion, and Esper Dragons were all major players in their respective standard environments at some point. Just because blue sucks now doesn't make the color retroactively terrible.

well they don't and they haven't so, that is the essential reason Blue is the most annoying, hated color.

it gets to do shit that no one else gets to do, which is fine, but it gets to mess with the stack and no one else can.

its the only color that messes with shits ability to even resolve, beyond incredibly minor outliers.

if I had a "white mana instant" that I could play in response that says "creatures this turn can't be countered", blue would be lessend, we are now interacting, bitch.

If I have 3 card types in my graveyard (creature, instant, land) and I play this, does it trigger itself?
Like when you try to kill a 2/3 Tarmogoyf with a Lightning Bolt when there are no instants in a graveyard yet. It'll be a 3/4 before the damage is dealt.
Is it like that here?

I guess it depends on how badly you want to enable Delirium? Because this Concoction looks better in that respect.

No, the tarmogoyf thing is that it's a 3/4 when the game state checks to see if it should be dead, taking 3 damage is part of resolving bolt
Delirium on spells only works while it's on the stack
>>
>>46014469
No, the spell does it's effect THEN goes to the graveyard. What you're thinking of doesn't work in either situation you're describing. A Goyf that is 2/3 dies to bolt and doesn't get bigger because the bolt goes to the graveyard first. They go to the graveyard at the same time.

Blue is hated because it has nearly killed the game 3 times and constantly breaks the rules of the game and no other color gets to do it as constantly or powerfully as blue.

You can already build a very decent RW Allies Equipment. You don't need Nahiri or SoI to win a few times on your LGS.
>>
>>46014019

>jank

>>
>>46014184

that's because counterspells, unlike every other form of removal, have a "time limit" built into them. if i don't counter your creature as it's being played, i'm not countering it at all without having to jump through some kind of hoop. if you give a creature hexproof through some card, i can just wait a turn or even play another removal spell on top of that and kill your creature anyways.

counterspells have an inherent disadvantage that nobody seems to give a shit about when they talka bout how "OP" they are. these examples also have people who have infinite mana and cards and hand to counter everything you do ever while the blue player kills you with storm crow, no matter how unrealistic and unlikely these scenarios are in the actual game.

It really all depends. At the moment I'm not 100% convinced it's Nahiri corrupting Avacyn. I mean look what she did to Markov Manor, why does she need to subtly fuck with Angels?

I also realize I'm probably 100% wrong but it's just weird that a Lithomancer would be involved with corrupting and causing madness.

And there's still that Licid/Bug/Scratchy back of the neck thing lingering around.

I guess it also matters if what Sorin has done to piss Nahiri off is truly his fault. If he's 100% at fault he may not be as vengeful since it seems like he can tell he's partly to blame at least
>>
>>46014751
"Being patient" doesn't mean "Sitting and doing nothing." Being patient includes using less-important spells to bait out counters, waiting for opportunities where they have to tap mana to actually try to win, etc.

Fun fact about counterspells; they don't win the game by themselves. If your opponent is doing nothing but holding up mana for counters, they aren't progressing their gameplan at all. A deck full of nothing but counters loses to a deck full of nothing but creatures every time.
>>
>>46014894
you can't actually 'play around counterspells'

when people tell you to do this, I sometimes wonder if they are just snickering behind your back.

doing nothing means they'll play a draw card, you have to play something significant eventually or they'll be in "I have all the mana now" mode and your fucked.
>>
>>46014809

>>

>>
>>46014807

"be patient" doesn't mean sit around doing nothing for 10 turns, obviously. It means actually thinking about your turns as you play them instead of just blindly throwing your shit into their counters.

>>46014839

it's hard to say because it depends on the matchup. What deck are you playing? What are they playing?

But typically the 'nugget of wisdom' here is "Play your second biggest threat". You play something that's threatening to them while keeping your big guns on back up for when they find themselves tapped out and without counters. If they keep countering you every turn then they're probably not drawing extra cards and not making their landdrops OR falling behind on answers. they're not drawing cards AND countering your stuff in one turn.

once again, blue's not over powered (for the most part), you just suck.

>>46014872

even then, it's not like other colors haven't done some lame ass bullshit either. a lot of the time people hate blue because they honestly just suck.

>>46014920

'play around counterspells' and 'sit around doing nothing while the other player kills you' are two different things, moron.
>>
>>46014914
if you say "pass the turn" they can do something else with their mana at the end of your turn.

Less important cards aren't required to be countered, they can simply use spot removal or whatever they want on those.

let us remember Sphinx's Rev Control and how well "being patient" worked out then.

I do actually agree that that is a problem, the solution is for them to never print instant speed card draw. They actually did this in the period of odyssey block through ravnica block, and the control decks of that era were the most fun to play against IMO.

this sentence reads like a caveman wrote it, which wouldn't surprise me in all honesty. the difference is you have much more control over the mana cost of the things you play. they're playing counters that are always going to cost 3+ mana for a permanent answer (counterspell IS 2 mana but it's never getting printed again, even though it'd probably be fine in the right standard environment). if you sit around durdling for 3 t urns while the control player builds up their base, then yeah, you're gonna have a shitty time. even if you're playing a midrange type deck, you should still be running early game interaction (Inquisition and Thoughtsieze?), and if you're running an aggro deck and you don't do anything for 3 turns you probably deserve to lose.

Casual MTG fans like slow decks that don't have much early game but end the game with some dudes attacking.

That's why people don't like blue.

Oh and its history of occupying everything noncreature in terms of color pie.

Hey guys, this here is my custom Magic the Gathering card. Her name is Nahiri, the Harbringer, but her friends call her Coldforge after her mother, a Stoneforge Mystic. She's known by her better title, the Lithomancer due to her proficiency at earthbending. She is a half-human, half-kor knight princess who was born to Vesner before he passed away. Her mother was killed by the Eldrazis when she was young and now she wanders the multiverse defeating all sorts of evils from Phyrexia to the horrors of Innistrad. But like all other badasses, she isn't quite nice herself. Having trained under Sorin, she learned his cruel ways. Unbeknownst to her, Sorin was partly to blame for the Eldrazis appearing. Nahiri and Sorin had an epic duel when she found out, but she failed to slay the vampire planeswalker. Sorin used his black magic to turn Nahiri into a vampire, but luckily she regained consciousness and was able to escape his evil grasp before he took full control of her mind. She holds a great grudge against all vampires and likes to sentence any and all of them to and endless state of perpetual agony.

haha very funny but is there a Magic character stronger than Nahiri?

And I’m referring to Nahiri, the Lithomancer who can be your commander and equip themselves with the Stoneforge Blade (which gives her double strike) who can construct network of hedrons capable of trapping the Eldrazis and trained under Sorin Markov, the vampire planeswalker. No, I'm not even talking about Nahiri, the Harbinger, who managed to even teach Ugin, the colorless spirit dragon, about lithomancy, and even survived his Eye of Ugin underground caverns, and then went to Innistrad to slay the vampires of Sorin's clan, and who can exile nearly all permanents her mind, give artifacts and creatures haste, and cycle through your library.

Avacyn because Angel. Foil copies will be diamonds.
Relentless Dead will find a home.

Judge here.
Expect this guy to cause a rules update.

Technically he's the last card in the "put a sorcery in the battlefield" combo.
The other two being conspiracy (or xenograft) and moonmist.

Currently the rule that stops this is 307.4 which is a replacement effect stopping sorceries from entering.
As such blinking the dude (with say restoration angel) would cause it to not come back from exile.

Because of manifest, we've seen sorcery cards face down as creatures, and thus there is a rule (701.31e) only currently possible by the card being hit by an opponents' Break Open (which will never happen).
In this case the card is revealed but left face down...
But turning a card face up and transforming it are different (701.25c) so this rule isn't applicable.

So I'm here taking wagers on what would happen in this case.
Exile? Seems like a decent "oh shit" response.
Grave? That's where sorceries go post resolution, you know instead of the battlefield like all other spell types (execpt instants).
Replacement the transform away? They already have rules that function on the assumption that a card might fail to change on transform (for clones and such).
It won't be a triggered ability, so you won't be able to shenanigans it, definitely a replacement effect (to catch this case) or state based action (to blanket further possible such mishaps).

But if they fail to notice it before the rules update, a Sorcery into the battlefield has become possible.

TL;DR
Been trying to get an instant or sorcery into the battlefield for years.
May just have got there.

I was obviously being facetious. I just think it's funny we get cards like this. It

1. Looks ridiculous.
2. Arguably doesn't fit the setting. I realize every single plane is a diversity poster now, but this is unlike Theros where it was already established with a previous set.
3. Most importantly, doesn't fit the lore itself. Their skin should be pale and drained of color like every other Markov vampire we've seen.

you're overthinking this way too much, they'll probably rule it that if a card has two faces and one of them isn't a creature, treat it like it doesn't exist IE if you do anything that would cause Persistent Nightmare to flip you treat it like every other cards that isn't double faced.
>>
>>46016389
>I was obviously being facetious

Then you fucked up, something like that requires emotion or at least a source reply.

But anyway

>Looks ridiculous
I agree, but only because armored vampires always strikes me as odd and off-putting.

>Arguably doesn't fit the setting
Innistrad has had black people from the beginning, they were portrayed at least once in Grizzled Outcasts, so its not impossible for a black vampire to exist, but I will agree with your third point, they should look more pale. They really missed an opportunity with giving a black character that strange skin disease that leaves white pigments on them, black vampires should have that.

>>
>>46016606
>you mean completely serious and very worried about the end of the white race or whatever.

Nah, I actually defended Theros having black people in it because it wasn't supposed to be historically accurate and it was just a plane based on Greece, not Greece. The truth is I've just become disillusioned with MTG over the past few sets and I just felt the need to share my opinion. A children's card game is not a conspiracy against my race. It's just silliness.

The lines the other characters speak are references to the song "Wake Me Up Inside" by Evanescence. I assume the beatboxing joke is a reference to the fact that there are several points in the song that the lyrics get sung at a rate that's rather unintelligible the first few times you listen, so it comes across someone just making noises.

Alternatively, it represents Jace attempting to beatbox the aggressive instrumentation of the piece, which would be mostly unintelligible.

>>46016300
While not that guy, I would guess the following points may upset him:

The Weatherlight and Predatory were both important ships in the canon at the time, the Weatherlight being important enough to be the name of an entire previous set, and its crew's journey being the narrative thread of the last four and a half blocks.

So the fact that you can barely see the ships because of the stupidly oversized explosions is a bit of a pain. The fact that the Weatherlight looks like a goddamn TIE fighter likely is irritating.

The fact that that particular battle is going the way of the tiny-ass ship in the foreground is stupid, from an artistic point, as the art implies that's the permanent being destroyed.

Further, the quote implies it's Gerrard being destroyed, when in actuality, he destroys the Phyrexians and Yawgmoth, and just vanishes, so the quote isn't even tied to what's being depicted.

Also, the name, as noted, doesn't match the effect. To understand how the name relates to the art, you have to know enough to KNOW all these issues, so it's a card for no one.

Avacyn is already $20, so her.

Whatever it was, after screwing up and undervaluing two Planeswalkers that took off hard, you can basically expect to never see cheap Standard Planeswalkers ever again. You could go an entire year without seeing even one copy in any of that year's GPs and PTs and the card will still cost at least $15.

Card draw is only an issue when you can straight up trade cards for cards, and blue is best at that. In creature-based magic, a 8/7 still trades 0 for X with a hand that poops out two 3/4s a turn.
>>
>>46017149
>After the fiascos that were Mind Sculptor and...oh crap, who was the second one? Agent of Bolas, right? Or maybe Karn?
Flip Jace.
>>
>>46017404
What's with the hate? the turn it comes out it'll at least be a 5/5 and its a madness/delirium enabler with the ability to revive itself, I would be shocked if it didn't see fringe play at least.
>>
>>46014857

yeah i know blue is the ONLY color with good card draw after all right

all these people that hate blue should honestly just go play modern.
>>
>>46017404
Geralf's Masterpiece is pretty good though, specially if you mill it. It basically reads (3)(U), activate three madness triggers and put a huge undercosted flier on the battlefield.

I really think people's greatly underestimating Geralf's Masterpiece. It might seem janky but being Hellbent isn't hard at all, its difficult to remove permanently and has great interactions with the block's mechanics.

Plus, as a Zombie Horror its gonna receive a lot of tribal support, so it isn't too unlikely it finds a home in some UB deck.
>>
>>46017711
>blue is the ONLY color with good card draw
Black has better
>>
>>46017775
other anon was clearly being sarcastic, anon
>>
>>46016877
You underestimate the power of big legendary white creatures. How much is elish norn worth again?>>46016901
>>
>>46017659
Wait, it happened again with Flip Jace? Never thought it was possible.
But it was something older than that I'm thinking of. I'm positive it was Scars block.
>>
>>46017157
Whoops, don't know how I made that typo.

And it seems we're both wrong, though I was definitely more wrong. I assumed the art was of a battle between the Weatherlight and Predator and the Predator had been destroyed long before, as you note. Apparently, it's meant to be the first activation of the Legacy Weapon, punching through the control center of the Null Moon, flying toward the viewer with the explosions behind it.

However, Gerrard and Urza's sacrifice is a LATER event, the SECOND activation of the Legacy Weapon.

I think what's most upsetting is that it's a good card. It's a representation of the culminated work of centuries by Urza, and it's one of the best pieces of removal ever printed. It references one of the better moments in Magic history, the payoff to several years of story. But the niggling inconsistencies frustrate people.

Like, if there were a LotR card that showed the Last Ride of the Rohirrim, but had the flavor text "There may come a time when the strength of men fails...but it is not this day.", it'd be an suitably emotional card. But it would nibble at the back of your brain that the quote has nothing to do with that battle.
>>
>>46017744
>Difficult to remove permanently

I don't know. If Unmaking is the premier removal spell people think it will be, it shouldn't be too hard.
>>
>>46017826
People underestimated how trivial it was to flip him due to fetchlands.

Its like AoT was, it didn't look special in paper but ended up insane in practice
>>
>>46017826
>>46017826
Flip jace is at 90+$ right now, it spiked recently and it's sure to spike again if some good madness/delirium cards get printed
>>
>>46017821
Elesh Norn is expensive because she completely shuts down token spam decks
>>
>>46017921
another problem with its price is.. its in a set no one wants to open at all for some reason.

Origins just has so many flops to go along with its.. 3 good cards? jace, Lili and Hangerback.
>>
>>46017933
And the creatures in burn, and in affinity, and in infect. the problem is to cheat her
>>
>>46017945
You're forgetting Pia and Kiran, Abbot, and Nissa
>>
>>46015761
always bet on any angels or angel-related cards like Descend because EDH bait. Get foils and foreign when you can, swing them for triple price in a few years. Rest wont see any play outside of standard (if even that) and PW are always over priced at first.
>>
>>46017826
>Wait, it happened again with Flip Jace? Never thought it was possible.
Yeah he was like $10 at launch. Then $20 for a couple weeks, then $40 and then quickly up to $80.

>>46017945
>Origins just has so many flops to go along with its.. 3 good cards? jace, Lili and Hangerback.
I liked Origins :(

It was a good set if you play EDH
>>
>>46018005
>nissa

went absolutely nowhere and isn't even played in fucking Elf-Coco.

name a single winning deck list that played fucking Nissa vastwood.

Abbot i'll give you, but its so generic, its "little red guy" the card.

Pia and Kiran is the only strange one, since its a fucking Intro pack rare.
>>
>>46018041
>>46017826
Currently Flip Jace is more expensive than JTMS, let that sink in for a bit.
>>
>>46013873
>Black should be getting all the toys blue gets.
How very black minded of you.
>>
>>46017826
Flip jace is why I have no respect or faith in the Magic Community.

everyone from lowly /tg/ peasent to Brad Nelson said it was shit and wouldn't see any play and then he went on to utterly dominate the entire format and continues till he rotates.

every fucking time, when Brad Nelson hoses on a card I think is good, it dominates, its the "Nelson effect".
>>
>>46017945

Pyromancer's Goggles and Chandra's Parents see some love but yeah, that's about it.
>>
>>46018100
But you post on /tg/ so must be as retarded and incorrect about the card as everyone else.
>>
>>46017945
Shaman of the Pack and Dwynen's Elite see some play as well. Don't forget it brought Piledriver into modern as well, which isn't good yet but it will be some day.
>>
>>46017868
Well, yeah, but that's just fur WBx decks. Most removal sends creatures to the graveyard and as long as Masterpiece ends up there its easy to bring back.

Sure, Graveyard hate is a thing too, but the ability can always be activated in response.
>>
Anybody else notice the artwork is pretty nice in this set? For the most part there isn't much of that shitty 3D they love to use lately Pick the Brain being a painful exception, of course.
>>
>>46018193
I mean we say graveyard hate is a thing. Ever since Tormod's Crypt rotated the best graveyard hate was your opponent delving it away for Treasure Cruise
>>
>>46018396
This.

Hopefully there will be some good ones in uncommon spots in SOI.
>>
>>46017450
Issue, Sorceries can't enter the battlefield.
>>
>>46018492
But now they can! In very specific and some might say never-gonna-happen circumstances!

are you perhaps complaining?
>>
>>46019146
Are you serious? It can't target instants, can't attack or block profitably, has a more prohibitive cost than Cryptic Command and yet does NOTHING the turn you cast it.

It also dies to every form of removal ever, so the fact that it has to survive to your next turn before it does anything makes it a huge liability.
