It's not quite that sandbox is a no-no, but it's something that you need experience to run correctly.

HOWEVER, the most important things about a quest is choice and the ability for players to do what they want. So while a quest shouldn't be 'sandbox' because that lacks direction unless you're a really good QM, you should still allow the player to choose which direction they want to go.

It's a kind of weird distinction, and one I'm not very good at explaining.

HGW stands for Holy Grail War, a type of setting based off of the Fate/Stay franchise. It's where a bunch of wizards each summon a mythological human or demihuman figure- Roland of Charlemagne, Ajax the Great. Hercules, Gilgames, King Arthur- and go to war. It really is kind of a shame how Akun turned out, because the mechanics of the site really are great, much better than /tg/. Unfortunately, the community makes it impossible to run any sort of quest that ISN'T smutty and said anons will get super butthurt if they have to work for their smut. Got an idea for a quest gimmick. It's by no means what the quest is based on but it might lead to interesting situations:

I've never had any problems running non-smut or playing non-smut on Akun myself. They seem to give a lot less of a fuck about what you run and what people enjoy than the salty people in these threads.

There is definitely a large amount of smut there, but Akun's userbase is much more splintered and un-unified compared to here on /tg/ and there isn't as much chance they'd shout down something that shows up there just because it's in the niche or minority category.

It might be. Karban Quest was the story that got me into /tg/ quests in general, though, so I have an absolutely shameless nostalgia boner for it.

Father definitely does a better job balancing the quest. Karban cruised by without any semblance of a challenge, Malroy gets bent over tables on the regular.
