I'm probably going to remove this silly meme team sometime soon and join in as a more serious one, the one I'm actually going to play as.

Oh yeah, my Orc team is just a filler too. Everyone with a [R]anked team might have to make a [L]eague team too, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I know its expected for Skaven to suffer injuries, but is it normal for the Apo to be this useless?

I try to decide what team to make for the /tg league, all the other teams are bashing teams.

Don't know if I'm a bad enough dude to make an agi team anyways.

dont worry about making a team for the tg group, just make a filler team and apply for the group. once we organize some kind of competition we can make proper teams

Any tips for getting Dark Elves off the ground? They are so dam expensive, I've tried 4 blitz, runner and 6 line 2rr, and I've tried 3 blitz, witch, 7 line 2rr but I get my shit rekt.

I'm thinking about just going kamakazie with gobbos just to lose but have fun with fanatics and chainsaws
>>
Is going with a single gutter runner begging for death?
>>
>>43638749

Yes.

Gutter Runners provide nearly every role Skaven need.

What the fuck are you filling the rest of the roster with that you can't fit at least 2 in?
>>
>>43638749

Not so much begging for death as actively shooting yourself in the face. Why would you not take utility players like them?

>>
>>43638728
You're gonna lose Elves. That's Elf life. But you want to skimp on positionals to start. 4 blitzers and 7 linemen is how you get off the ground, and you buy positionals to fill in for dead/boring linemen as you go. Anytime you have less than 4 blitzers, your priority switches to fixing that problem.

They exist to give your amazing (and made of spun glass) positionals some security within which to grow.

Which is fine. A Witch needs one good game to become a wrecking ball.
>>
>>43637323
how's a fumbbl scrub supposed to apply to this group?
>>
>>43642750

Create an account, then create a team. When creating the team choose the League option when it asks right away.

Once you have finishes creating your team, visit the league page, go to the teams in the league page, select your team from the drop bar, and then submit.
>>

Just played a guy who was Dwarfs, but he only had 2 rerolls, 1 runner, and no blitzers. He said it was for troll slayers and rerolls. Tied him 1-1, was pissed, because I fouled his runner like 5 fucking times in the first half and couldn't get him off the fucking field
>>
>>43646916

The rule of thumb for fouling of "Plan for a Stun" holds doubly true against Dwarfs.
>>
>>43647656
I had the ball next to the endzone and with no beardies in range for the majority of the half. My entire goal for the half was to injure or surf the runner but he wouldn't life him up so I fouled and fouled but couldn't get the fucker. If did, he would have had 9 ag2 guys to try to score with and it would have been great

Started on fumbbl today. Decided that I had a death wish and started Chaos. Five games later I'm sitting with 0 TDs, nine TDs against me, one beastman with -MA and another with a niggling injury. But y'know what? One of my Chaos Warriors has Block, and I'm looking for someone else to play. I'm going to win before I'm done here.

>tfw you unironically win the first Riddit FUMBBL tournament as early Chaos with no Claw, MB or PO

Against some real Pro Elf bullshit in the final. I was hanging back so far, and was only getting Pushes on my few blocks. He scored within 3 turns. The remaining 5 I got within his back line with a cage, but some Guard and a ST4 AG4 passer kept my Beastman at bay.

I received second half, only for the ball to spill out of the cage I had built it. Fuck, I thought that was it. I recovered though, and had a nice big cage in his half. Got a bit of luck though, he popped the ball out only for it to fall to another of my Beastmen, who eventually got it in after surviving a Blitz.

By this point he was out of re-rolls, which really played in my favour. He recieved in OT, so I hung back again waiting for him to pick a side to funnel down, and having done no CAS all game, I made about 4 in 3 turns. Got the ball and after some strategic fouling, ran it in for a 2-0 win. Fucking orgasmic.

I've accepted everyone so far just now. A couple have [R] teams not [L], which is cool for now as it keeps them in the Group, but when we get something rolling (more in a second on that) you need to apply with an [L] team.
>>
>>43652635
Thanks. So I assume this is a seperate team from my team I usually play outside of that league right?

Any recommendations for a division to join as a newb/medium player? Blackbox seems pretty hardcore, not sure about ranked because of "playability" (time zones, oppenents etc.).

Cheers.
>>
>>43650924
Poor Chaos players. I just played one who had a Warrior and Beastman die on the same turn.
>>
>>43652651

Yes, you'll have to make a new team in the [L] divison.

Blackbox is hardcore as fuck yes, it's the reason my Coach Rating is so shit as I tried playing it for too long at first. I'd avoid it at first.

You're best in Ranked. It does have a "Gamefinder" where you can offer to play people and they can offer to play you. I usually get a game within ten minutes.
>>
>>43652683
Sounds great, guess I'll give it a try. Signed up soon(TM) in the /tg/ group.

Guess you can't "replicate" teams, eh? Would like to play the same team kinda, but with different TV (as one is in League and the other ist in Ranked).

Could take some time to come up with another teamname and playernames. I'm terrible at this.
>>
>>43652704

Yeah you can name players the same as your other teams. You can even have teams with basically the same name if you put an [L] at the end of the name or something.

Like I have "Kurgan Blood Tide" in League, and then "Kurgan Blood Tide [B]" in Blackbox. Same player names, of course they evolved differently but there's no rules against it.
>>
>>43652720

Starting bloodbowl is the hardest part
but remember, that sucking at something, even for a long time is always the first step to getting better.

I started fumbbl yesterday and have had all losses, but then a draw.
>>
Had my first game on FUMBBL. Felt really sorry for my oppenent, as on the first turn his rat ogra suffered an injury from a failed dodge roll. Game tended to stay like a fest of goofy CAS, like failing 4 times in a row a single GFI and multiple turnovers with "ball fumbling: maximum goofy edition".
>>
>>43651407

taking dodge on a double roll for a dwarf is good in the short term.

But jump up or side step is where its at in the long hull annon.

EVERYONE ends up spreading tackle around as a 2nd or 3rd skill. whenever they can to deal with the poncy elf teams.
>>
>>43654217
>jump up
This, so much. Jump us is stupid underrated.
It can keep slow players from being immobilized and make fast players a constant threat
>>
>>43652499
>TFW I failed my 4th 2+ pickup of the game
>TFW two of them were deep in your lines
>TFW that passer failed his 2+ rerollable dodge while he had the ball

Fair play though, it was a tough as balls game. Much tougher than I thought it was going to be.

____________________

So for now, a simple question:

Would people like a split league for our first attempt, i.e. a "normal" league for the more experienced Blood Bowl player, and a rookie league?

I think it would probably bring the most fun for everyone, as long as we're all honest.
>>
>>43654450
Probably a good idea, but it might be a pain in the ass to manage.
>>
>>43654450
that only works if we have 10 rookies and 10 experienced players.
What would probably be better if we make a swiss style tournament.

For a win you get 3 points for a draw 2 points and for a loss 1 points.
People with 3 points play vs other people with 3 points and so on.

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/games-workshop-to-open-specialist-design-studio/

It will be a while before anything new comes out. But we MIGHT see new casts of the old sculpts.

I could go for getting my hands on some of the star players i missed out on. The most recent griff oberwalf and the mighty zug were good sculpts but tend to go for around $100 on the very rare chance they get put on ebay.

The odds of them just porting the LRB6 without touching it, or if they do touch it, making actually balanced changes, are phenomenally low.

Swiss style with a top 4 elimination playoffs IMO. Means you can have an actual semi-finals and finals where people can watch and helps provide a tie-breaker.
>>
>>43654730

They'll revamp the rules but without fixing any of the things that actually need fixing. In fact we'll most likely just see all the rules from BB2 made into the official new edition. That's slightly more preferable to all the misguided ideas about breaking down Dodge and Block into four skills (always from coaches who don't take tackle, wrestle or juggernaut), or nerfing ClawPOMB into uselessness (it needs a mild nerf and that's it) but it's still well below ideal.

>>
>>43665246
Wrestle/Tackle is the only way to deal with blodge. I tend to build 1 or 2 wrestle/tackle beastmen to put guys like ball carriers on the ground or to put expensive blodgers like war dancers into spots where I can foul them.
>>
>>43665776
Yeah but, at TV 1100? You only have two other skills, I feel like getting your third skill as wrestle is detracting a lot of possible SPP and hits
>>
>>43666172
eh, he is doing a couple things weird. He has 2 injured guys he should cut. I wouldn't have gotten the mino at all really. I would prob go extra arms on the first beast to level up, mighty blow on the second, and wrestle, tackle,or guard on the third.
>>
>>43666309
Block gives you so many extra knock downs that it's as good as MB for generating SPP and you stay standing more.

I'd say block > mb all day every day

Extra arms on the first beast is crazy, you don't need it, it's better later if you go extra arms at all.

Mino is fine, but it's not optimized, it's good if you're playing bloodbowl for fun and/or you're better than your friends and don't want to dominate them in a league
>>
>>43666461
Extra Arms is good if you want a ball carrier. Not everyone wants to go full murder all the time.
>>
This is my first non-cyanide team, so without any resources at hand (I didn't start googling shit til today) most of my choices were made from playing single player in Chaos Edition.

>>43665776
This was my reasoning for it. Been playing a lot of wood elves so figured it'd be nice.

>>43666309
I did cut a few after I got more treasury. Now I've just got one niggling injury to deal with.
>>
Keeping the thread alive.
>>
So at what point should I start grabbing Tackle/Wrestle on my Saurus? Should they all have Block first or is it better to have a couple of Blockers and a couple of wrestlers?
>>
>>43667886
they should have all block first you only get wrestle if you get a double on a skink.
>>
>>43667886
Tackle should come usually immediately after block, but you can delay it if you don't have many teams with Dodge in your league.

Wrestle Saurii are uncommon and not necessarily a great skill on Saurus - because they are ST4 players, they usually can tie up two or more S3 players, which means you want them to stay standing. If you select Wrestle on a both down result, any other players the Saurus is marking can get out scot-free.

Sure, it might be useful to have a Break Wrackle Saurus for getting ball carriers, but generally Lizards are not about direct blitzes on the ball carrier - rather, your high ST Saurii and Krox try to enclose a tight fist around the ball carrier that will ideally strangle the opponent trying to deal with your high ST.

Generally, getting a Wrestle/Tackle player is more for teams that try for unassisted or even -2d blocks against a carrier sitting tight in a cage or other defensive formation (either by preference or necessity) in an effort to spring the ball loose, usually teams that have standard (ST3) strength.

Teams with ST4+ generally rely on halting the offense by having ST4+ players mark multiple opponents simultaneously - they're very hard to push off, thus forcing a risky dodge in most cases.

If you must have a Wrackle player as Lizards, it's probably best to put this on a Skink, and use paired Skinks to hunt a ball carrier (using their movement and Stunty to get into a position). Remember, the whole point of taking both Wrestle and Tackle is that they make low dice blocks considerably more reliable at springing the ball loose.
>>
>>43668028

So from what you're saying it sounds like I should be going for Guard/Stand Firm on my Saurii along with Block to tie up opponents more effectively? I got a +1MA Saurus that I mean to build into a ball carrier but that sounds like a good plan for the rest of them.

Both are solid picks, but Break Tackle is an especially good idea given that Saurii are very mobile and your opponent often will try to mark them. Note that if you roll doubles Dodge is not actually the worst skill to take - it keeps the Saurus standing and allows you to reroll Break Tackle dodges.
>>
>>43663102
>misguided ideas about breaking down Dodge and Block into four skills
I think that sentiment comes mostly from how Blodge is pretty much automatically the first skill and often also the second one, outside of fringe cases like building a Kicker. The other skills are way more situational, Block and Doge work against everyone, especially early on, so you are practically hampering yourself by taking Tackle instead of Block as your first skill.
>>
>>43668455
The problem is that some skills are way better than other skills. So you will get sort of samey Builds on all teams and never see skills that are good but are way less good than others. Like grab for instance. Also there are skill that should definetly be fused together like Sprint and Sure Feet and some who are just plain bad.
Like Thickskull and Sneaky Git.
They could maybe introduce more skills that work with fouling/secret weapons or other cheating things and then create a whole Skill Category Cheating. Then give all linemen access to that category and then finally Goblins are good at cheating like they are supposed to be.

One of the cheating skills could be that if the Player is on the reserve bank he can sneak on to the pitch without being noticed on a roll of 4+
>>
>>43666461
The MB beast is a hunter blitzer, he is more to take out individual targets who have block or to scare the other guy than to get into prolonged blocking fights.
>>
>>43668597
Hence why some people think something should be done about it. Block is the Gold Standard of how powerful something should be at most, question is wether or to nerf or to buff
>>
>>43668850
the problem is skills are situational, and block is the most common skill you can use. Add to that a very powerful effect (avoiding turnovers, avoiding injuries) and Block becomes a must for any player that's going to be bashing things

Maybe we need to buff other skills, and add more skills to give more options in how you choose to build your team. Wrestle is a good example of a new skill to add variety to the block meta, but the fact is, as block currently is, it's too strong a choice that it's foolish really not to pick it (elves might be the only teams that don't want block ASAP)
>>
>>43668850
If you nerf block you are nerfing all the bash team that start with nothing
>>
>people complaining about Block
>not about the fact that agile teams can move the ball around like no-ones business, whilst a lot of teams cannot score more than once a half

>>
>>43669206
I played a round of We v De in bb2 last night and lost the first half by having 7 fielded players and came back due to better positioning. He could have dodge out of TZs just as easy as my linemen but was hellbent on playing the bash game. Learn to screen if dodge is what keeps you up at night. Force them down a path or make their blitz worthless.
>>
>>43669310

I am gud.

You must agree though, Bash isn't good enough to make up for the usual lack of agility.

Casualties need to be easier if anything.

I think blood bowl is perfect as is and I have fever dreams about just how badly everything could go with GW at the helm again.

Old JJ isn't around to protect blood bowl and there's no way to make it profitable (I mean, a lot of fans have figured out ways, ie not having a bloodbowl line but instead having conversion guides for core-kits) in GW's eyes so they'll just shit it up.

Pointing to the blood bowl video games as proof they won't change anything is folly, they nuked WHFB even though warhammer total war was in development (granted I like AoS better than WHFB but I don't think you could simplify blood bowl further)

So yeah, blodge is really good, but many teams have access to it, and many teams still play very different.

Is agi 4 a problem? Maybe
Is clawpomb a problem? Maybe

But does it matter? You won't convince more people to play blood bowl by making it a carebear hug box where blocks are always safe, or if you perfectly balance every skill such that they're always good.

I ran into a skaven player who took shadowing as a first skill for a lineman in bb2.

He got friggin' destroyed, we're talking two gutter runner DEATHS.

Should he have taken block instead of shadowing? Maybe, but it's not for us to decide what he should or shouldn't take. To tell him to play the game our way and take 4 skills to earn blodge.

Like if you break block and dodge into two skills a piece, all you do is slow down and cripple team growth and push the TV meta way higher.

Seems bad.
>>
Nobody is saying that they should just nerf block and do nothing else. If you change Block, you should take a look at how it effects the teams at varying values and turn a few balancing screws.
Blood Bowl is good, but it there is always room for improval. And if you could practically replace the first level up with "Gain Block" in most cases, somebody should take a look at he balance.
>>
Sup /armourbreak/

Doubles or +Agi on an ogre for humans as first skill, what would you get?

Block is solid
Pro is nice for blitzing and blocking, but less reliable than block
Guard is great for LOS-support, but I figure human blitzers can more easily get guard.
Having an ogre with 3 agi might not be bad, could be real fun to make him into a ball carrier, but other than that break tackle can handle things agi would.
Or something crazier?

How do you have dubs or +ag? + ag is a 11 roll.

Holy fuck why does every noob start with chaos as their first team if they don't even know the basics? Is it because they look cool? Because they're edgy? I've played 60 hours of BB2 and had like 12 matches against chaos and I never lost or drew without even trying. Everyone I know and their grandma is saying they're hard for new players but this new cancer is unstoppable lately.
>>
>>43671165
Chaos isn't hard, they are a fairly simple team that get fun once you get a few levels.
>>
>>43671250
They have zero skills, and every new player knows only how to 1die block and not have any rerolls because they had to have all the positionals and 2 spare beastmen for some reason.

Dorfs are pretty hard to play for a new player and seeing as everyone plays Chaos and Lizardmen you get bashed around a bunch because beardies only have 3 st

If I remember correctly the game advises you to start with playing the campaign in order to learn the game.

But the campaign is such a joke for teaching the rules because the sort of people they are targeting it with will get bored with it after 2-3 matches and jump straight into matchmaking, where:

They don't know about injuries.

They don't know about Turnovers.

They don't know about Skills.

They don't know about Staff.

They don't know about Inducements (not that the Campaign bothers with those).

They don't know about the real kickoff events (because the ones in the campaign are all scripted).

The first one is basically when you are kicking off and they are bashy, its to minimize the damage they can do to your non-blocking or expenive players
Its also based on the fact most bashy teams are slower and will want to make a cage rather than rush you.

DE are a mix of painfully expensive and fragile so I can get it

Because if the opponent takes the bait and goes through the middle all of your players can reach them and since your opponent players are not far apart (they all have to be close in the middle) you can effectively cover them with very few players while 2 of your players can threaten the ball carrier.

On everyone on your team? No.

If you're playing Chaos, Orcs, Lizzies, yeah take it on your Black Orcs/Saurus etc.
>>
>>43672239
Depends on your race, your league, your play style

In general there are a few archetypes of players

Killers who want to be hitting people, they want things like block, dodge, maybe fend, guard, possibly mighty blow. They hit people and are survivable ideally, dodge keeps you standing more, leap up is also a standing thing, they take +str if they can get it, etc etc

Ball handlers 3 agi but usually 4 agi, they take things like sure hands, dodge, block, etc, they catch/pickup the ball. For example, If you're a str team like chaos (pretty much just chaos) you want block, dodge, possibly two hands, etc etc. Most ball handlers don't need block, as you'll rely on TDs for SPP so the ball handling skills will generate more SPPs allowing faster skills.

Kickers are usually just a lineman with kick, pretty optional although it's a free-win against dwarves usually

Linemen usually take guard, maybe block, maybe wrestle, maybe fend, basically you just get in the way, keep them cheap and shitty so TV isn't inflated

Throwers and catchers are just special ball handlers that either throw or catch, again, you want things to keep them from getting knock down, prevent strip ball etc etc

Again, what your linesmen and positionals have available to them is a pretty big part of the game, for example some people view Chaos Minos are worthless if they don't get dubs by their third skill, so you sac a developed mino and buy a rookie one to train up.

There's no real "Wrong" skills (ok there are a lot, don't take shadowing as your first skill on skaven linesmen) but you should have a plan.

Half of blood bowl is planning, the other half is turnovers
>>
>>43672388
It's worth noting some linemen you want to keep at 0 spp because they're worthless, never get spp on them.

Again though, it depends on how you want to play the game, just be wary of taking too many situation skills
>>
>>43672388
>two hands
That's not a lot of hands
>>
>>43672415
it is for a blood bowl player

but yeah, I did mix up extra arm and two heads into "two hands"

Either skill can be defended, with two heads working well with blodge, and extra arms is alright if you want to pass
>>
>>43672239
It depends, but you get Block more often than not. It's situational, but in many situations Block is the right choice.
>>
>>43672380

>>43672071
in that pic it takes 6 squares to be out of your guys tackle zones, this means 2 8 movemebnt pieces can go pretty far from each other, especially in comparison to you leaving the flank semi open which limits your oppoent moving space and actually seems like a bait

Right then. Big drumroll please!

I would like to announce the format of the first /tg/ FUMBBL League.

As some have said, and having a good look at the different formats myself, I believe a Swiss format tournament will be the logical answer. Since it sorts out over time based on your results, those more experienced players will naturally filter through to the top, whilst rookies get a taste of competitive Blood Bowl against each other and hopefully get a few wins.

Each round you will be scheduled an opponent, it is up to the both of you to work something out over PM on FUMBBL.

This will run for 6 rounds. I might fix each round to a week max, but will bring this forward if everyone has played before then.

Due to how the format works everyone needs to play before the next round is scheduled. So you will be expected to complete all 6 games, please don't sign up if you can't commit to this, flakers!

Also, no playing non-scheduled games with your team outside of this /tg/ League, doing so will lead to instant concessions for any remaining games.

If players do not complete their game promptly; if it is clear one player has made efforts to be available whilst the other has barely responded, they will be awarded the win.
_____________________________

As many of you already have, you will need to apply to the /tg/ FUMBBL group with a FRESH [L]eague team to compete. Then, can you PM me (Coach name: MauledByTheTigers) to confirm your desire to participate. There's a couple messaged me to say they can't play straight away but would like to in the future, otherwise I'd just dump everyone in.

There was only one Coach (his name was Ayylmao) left with an [R] team instead of an [L], so you'll have a re-apply an [L] team bro. Of course if anyone else wants to change teams, or has applied with a team that has played a game, you can just (leave) that team and re-apply with a new one

You have ~48 hours, and we'll open the League Wednesday evening GMT, afternoon EST.

>>
>>43674241

Yep.

Very first match of the campaign also removes all dice rolls except for blocks.

So your team automatically succeeds at dodges, passes, pickups, handoffs, and nobody gets stunned, KO'd, or Injured.

It gradually reintroduces things until the 4th or 5th match I think? But even then, there is no explanation for inducements and TV, so the game encourages you to just build a ridiculously bloated team and steamroll over the opposition.
>>
Does BB2 really just use skills without asking you? Are there really no options to change it?

If so it's fucking stupid and eliminates any sort of competitive play.
>>
>>43674363

It asks you for dodge íf you are near the edges of the field, and next patch it's going to let you chose if you want to use Jugg or not.

>>
>>43672239
I'd say for a great deal of players the first buy is going to be one of the Block dice related skills if they don't already have one - Wrestle, Block, Dodge, and Tackle.

Block and Dodge are both important if you want to keep the character standing when attacked (either because he carries the ball, you don't want to lose movement, or you need the character's Tackle Zones to stay in effect). Wrestle is specifically for countering Block on the offence or defence.

If they do already have one, what to get next is going to depend a lot on the specifics of your league. For example, you may want to get Tackle much earlier if you're scheduled to go against Amazons and Elves next.

>>43674040
Halflings generally lowball their TV and thus get a lot of inducement money, whereas goblins have most of their tricks inherent to the team itself (and use inducement money mostly for bribes). How trolly they can be depends on what you buy for inducements and how well you use them.

I am starting a human team, had a game vs a noob playing wood elves and stimped him with 4 tds on two blitzers, one got guard the other dodge.i had another game and levelled up my thrower and a lino, lino got kick, but i am not sure about the thrower,he got double 5.i think it's not worth giving him +1 ma eventhough i'd like to.Do you think i should go dodge or strong arm?i am more inclined towards dodge since i usually prefer running to passing, have only 1 catcher and dodge can be useful in defense too, while strong arm will probably make my thrower useless in defence.opinions?
>>
>>43675614
If you just want him to throw things then go for accurate before strong arm. +MA is also good on a thrower, lets you pick up deeper kicks and get into better position. You're probably not going to be using dodge that much if you take it unless you like to put your thrower in harm's way.
>>
>>43675614
+ma, better for getting the ball. better for moving the ball up and making sure you have shorter passes.

>are you people going to take this almost competitive or shall i just do it for fun?

Looking at the teams (plenty of Stunty teams, no-one has opted for Lizardmen, Chaos or too much Elf Bullshit) I'm going to go for "fun".
>>
>>43675786
>>43675730
Thank you both, reconsidering ma+.But why would i take accurate instead of strong arm which is only aviable on a double and dodge can be useful if the enemy blitzes a corner of my cage, because it lets me just run instead of having to blitz, makes him harder to base and harder to blitz if i am facing skavens with a leaping gutter for example.
>>
>>43675987
Ok,will pm soon
>>
>>43676022
Accurate is just straight up better than strong arm since it gives you a bonus on all passes and strong amr doesn't on quick ones, disregarding the thrower's skill access. Dodge is fine and all, but if you want your thrower to throw he's not going to be carrying the ball in a cage all the way to the endzone. Not saying dodge is bad but I'd still take the +MA since it's rarer.
>>
>>43676022
dodge is useful sure and strong arm isn't bad at all. it's just that accurate is better, it is applied to every pass you make rather than just long/bombs.
>>
>>43675818
do it for fun do it for the carnage. Or just do it to get a Mac Murty Sandwich. All participants in the /tg/ FUMBBL league are allowed to get one from their nearest kitchen.

From my experience there will be a big mix of different reasons why people play. You can find out the competitive players at their race. Wood Elves, Lizardman, Dwarves and Chaos Dwarves
>>
>>43676072
Well even if accurate is better than strong arm it's not like doubles happen everyday and i need them both for a perfect thrower,so i would take it.
>Dodge is fine and all, but if you want your thrower to throw he's not going to be carrying the ball in a cage all the way to the endzone
If i were to give him dodge i wouldn't build him like a passer, but rather like a runner
>>
>>43676022
There's two main directions you can go with Human Throwers - you can use them as a ball carrier and reserve their passing skills to send the ball elsewhere if/when things get too hot. Or you can try to do the elf passing game - hide the thrower deep in your backfield while you move up players that can score, then move him forward and throw a long pass.

Strong arm is definitely a good skill to take on a double if you intend to use your Thrower mostly for elf-style passing; you can always pick up Accurate later. Think the other guy is confused about Thrower skill access - you aren't guaranteed another double, so pick up Strong Arm while you can if you intend to have a "passing" thrower.

Dodge is a good pick for a running thrower - it's worthwhile for a passer to keep him up in an emergency, but the idea is that a Strong Arm passer can sit relatively safe in your backfield and then run up to do a pass when your catchers have advanced.
>>
Just beat a Lizardman team with humans. Only had one death, but I think I only had like 4 guys on the field at the end. He conceded on turn 12 or 13 when I scored my second TD after I injured all his skinks (something I could never seem to do with Chaos). Had a scary moment, my thrower died and I had to apo him. Was pretty kek, because he was a rookie thrower and he got 4spp and leveled up due to injuring a pair of skinks.
>>

A lot of rosters are plenty competitive though. Nurgle is very good and generally takes less time than vanilla Chaos to find their feet; Humans are always versatile, Orcs are considered pretty high tier and Amazons, Dark Elves, Pro Elves, and High Elves can do plenty of things that Wood Elves can't. Even Vampires have won major tournaments on FUMBBL - they have a lot of weaknesses but Hypnotic Gaze makes them a very difficult team to defend against.
>>
>>43676022
It depends entirely on your play style.
Do you want to cage up and walk with the thrower into the end zone?
Then Dodge. You will need it to not get hit.

Do you want to use the thrower as a guy that sits deep in your pitch and passes the ball?
Go strong arm.
Do you want a half open cage and short passes? Then +MA you will need it to get yourself closer to the guy that you want to give the ball to.
>>
>>43676276
>Vampires have won major tournaments on FUMBBL
Yes they can occasionally win tournaments and I don't say that only Wood Elves or the other Top races will win 100%. But I say that people who take those races probably do that out of a competitive motive.
>>
>>43675987
>no one has opted for Lizardmen or Chaos

If anything this tells me the opposite - Chaos will take their time to find their feet, which will hurt them in a Swiss-style league where every match counts; and at almost 30 teams this league will be long enough to make Lizard teams struggle (development on a Lizard team is extremely slow; hampered by the tendency of Skinks to get killed or injured).

The team mix definitely focuses on strong high tier teams with solid starting skills and good endurance - lots of Orcs, some Undead/Necro, Humans.

this gets me pretty excited. I was thinking maybe I could recreate my Slaanesh Butt-Touchers from Chaos edition, one of my most sucessful chaos teams. Then I noticed how they do have rules for checking the names given to teams and players, which is honestly for the best.

I don't think Bind Roughthroat would get past the filters. or Stretchgag Gartersnapper. or Prect Dribble. A shame, but completely 100% understandable.

But the injury and death mechanic are the same.

So I built my humans Ogre, 4 blitzers, 1 thrower, 5 linemen. But now I learned how much I love throwing the ball. Is it enough to grab one catcher and a spare lineman later on? I already have accurate on my thrower and a +ag lineman. So far I've been mainly throwing at my blitzers.

At what point do I pick up a catcher (and an extra lineman) and can I get away with an elf like passing offense with only one catcher?
>>
>>43677187
To be honest the naming policy seems to be there more to err on the safe side; I've seen a lot of teams that sort of toe the line.
>>
>>43677853
the human passing game is different fromt the elf passing game.

Elves invade the opposing pitch side with a lot of catchers and then pass to the one that is the least protected.
Humans build a cage around the catcher and protect the catcher from harm. So haveing more than 2 catchers is bad for Humans.
>>
>>43678088
What I've been doing now is sitting at the back of my side of the field, blitzing a hole through the defense and passing it to a blitzer behind his dudes, then basing his guys, Works great since I mostly play bashier teams. The other thing I do is I cage up and make it look like I am advancing with the thrower in the cage and when he commits I slip someone behind his dudes and run the pass play. So would a single catcher be worth it? Or would it tip him off to my passing strat? Would it open up more things underneath by forcing him to use 2 players to mark my catcher?
>>
Why do Snotlings and Black Orcs have the same chance of breaking armor?
>>
>>43679158
Because you touch your bag of dice at night.
>>
>>43679158
Because technically its not the blow that breaks it, its the fall onto the pitch that does.

Though I like to imagine in my head its the blow
>>
Has anyone ever pulled off a punt? Say playing against someone like dorfs and the ball is close to your endzone, picking it up and then declaring a pass and throwing the ball to an empty square as far away from your endzone as you can?
>>
>>43679158
BOs hit you as hard as they can.

Snotlings go for the Junk

Similar result.
>>
>>43677556

How hard is Fumbbl to figure out? I've only played BB2, so my rules knowledge isn't top notch.
>>
>>43679158
Blood Bowl abstracts the details; a result on the Block dice that makes a player go down is assumed to be caused by whatever would be most effective for the player in question. The armour check could equally represent "bypassing" armour by striking swiftly at a place the armour does not cover (in the case of say, an Elf catcher), or smashing through the armour (like with a Chaos warrior).

A Black Orc just needs to slam the other guy really hard - this is represented by how high ST player roll more block dice and thus find it easier to deal these sort of blows.

A Snotling on the other hand needs to be really lucky to get this sort of hit in solo, or get assisted by several other snotlings to swarm the opponent (represented by assists that raise your effective strength).

Snotlings fight fucking dirty. They climb up your armor, poke you in the eyes, claw your face and then spit in the wounds left over. Some just headbutt you right in the dick when your not looking others bite your fingers and rip off the tips of your boots and go for your toes.

Highly unlikely they'll do anything spectacular or truly harmful (2/3 red dice.) but it's a nasty surprise when it does happen.

>>43681545

>>
>>43681613
you're playing delf wrong

You only try and bash anyone who is squishier than you, otherwise you ride agi 4 and elf stall their cage all day

Also, a good starting team helps, Try 4 blitzers, 1 runner, 6 linemen, 2 re-rolls

The positionals are mostly traps for new players, until you have a strong grasp on tackle zones, assisting, and how guard works any witch elves will be an AV7 expensive liability

Assassin is more of a lategame pick to bust cages and pick off players with some sweet stabby goodness

Generally as a delf don't follow up block, always throw two die blocks, and if they mark you dodge out.

In higher TV they'll have tackle, so you'll need to be a lot more positionally aware, but low TV you can dance and only throw a couple blocks a turn.

The trick is to throw more blocks than them, like don't give them free blocks by running up to them, you want to generally only let them blitz one guy, they'll mark some other guys, then you counter-mark and throw some 2 dice blocks and don't follow up. Also throw your blitz somewhere good and again, don't follow up.

They'll blitz down one guy, re mark, and ideally you grind them out.

If they're mostly av7 then you just mark 'em and throw blocks, throw more than them and you win.

Fouling is something you'll want to do as a delf, you're the only expensive team who wants to foul, if you're riding a 1 or 2 man advantage throw strong fouls (with good percentages).

Later on you can develop a dirty player and play with bribes, since your whole team is agi 4 you are better than they are when it gets down to 5 on 5 or less players.

So long as it's even or you're ahead you'll be golden. Just block where it matters, and dodge all the rest. Soon you'll ride that AGI4 through 3 or more tackle zones and have people like me smashing my keyboard in rage.
>>
>>43681806
Thanks man, it fucking sucks when you can't make a +2 dodge or gfi to save your life, I'm actually only one game from being able to get that second Reroll (fingers crossed) and I can start saving up for the teams first witch

Always be very careful playing the bash game with any elf team; even against squishy teams you need to be cautious about your commitments.

Dark Elves (and High Elves) are the closest BB gets to a "Space Marine" style faction; they're basically better humans, but trade that strength for very expensive guys. Other teams will always have a deeper bench and losing a guy to injury will always screw you a lot more. And just like how everyone in 40k optimizes to beat a Marine's 3+ save, everyone in Blood Bowl aims to improve their chances against AV8.

You may instead want to get a feel for the game with much cheaper humans or pro elves; both teach you to take the combination of AG4 and AV8 less for granted.

I just applied with a Khemri team. That's right, a Khemri team.

>>
>>43686028
Well, if you can keep the enemy away from your half of the field for the three turns it will take your Thro-Ra to pick up the ball, despite the fact that your main fighting force will probably never get Block, you might have a chance to score some day.

Khemri is fun, and I've won the rare game with them, but it's an uphill battle all the way.
>>
>>43685586
Good luck picking the ball up senpai
>>
>>43686049
first of pro is really good to reroll dauntless second there are so many skills you want on the blitzer that you only get on a double

Dodge Guard Mighty Blow Sidestep. With Pro he has a semi Dodge a semi Sure Hands (yes i know dodge and sure hands do also other things but my main grip is about the rerolls).
>>
>>43686149
You still want other skills first. Pro is what you want for when you don't NEED to pass something. Picking up the ball and Dodging are the types of things you should know you can reroll.
>>
>>43686149
What you said is why i like pro,but not asa first skill.Maybe third skill, second on some,it is good but too unreliable.

Okay assumeing your High Elf Thrower failed his safe throw roll and got intercepted.

To throw a ball the following things happen in order.

Proclaim that you want to throw the ball.
The opponent chooses one of his players to intercept the ball that are in range.
Interception are rolled.
Safethrow is rolled
Pass is rolled
Catch is rolled

so if the opponent already intercepted and your Thrower failed the Agi roll for Safethrow then the pass isn't even rolled.

Khemri have a bunch of problems that are not big on their own, but taken cumulatively create a big problem.

The first is that the entire team has AG2. This means you pick up the ball on a 4+. 50/50 is not great odds, considering that each failed pick up attempt ends your turn and allows your opponent another chance to break through your line to steal the ball.

Secondly, Khemri are slow; Thro-Ras are not, but they're limited by the speed of the Tomb Guardians who are there to protect them. That means every turn you waste trying to pick up the ball means one less turn advancing towards the enemy - it's quite possible to spend 3 or 4 turns picking up the ball and not having enough time to move the ball into the endzone.

The low agility means that if your carrier is ever hit and drops the ball, you will have a hell of a time trying to recover it as well. Any offense that gets past the Tomb Guardian cage often means certain doom for the Khemri drive.

And this is even before accounting for Claw can-openers that can ruin your Tomb Guardians.

Back in LRB4 when fouling was stronger (but repeated fouling almost guaranteed a player getting sent off), Khemri were better at removing players from the pitch - Skeletons are as cheap a fouler as you can get.
