Couple of F1 "opinions" that need correcting.

Yes, he won the title because Hamilton's DNF. Had he not won the title, his efforts would still be severely underrated. You have to consider this is Hamilton, who matched Alonso in his rookie year (and presumably only got better since then), and a basically "second rate" driver challenged him hard for the title 2 years out of 3. People basically seem to consider him a Barrichello, but when is the last time Barrichello or Kovalainen or any 2nd tier driver actually legitimately challenged for a title against a teammate? Rosberg often matched Hamilton in quali and in the end got a title. Sure he isn't as good but he is still pretty damn good. If a talent of his level was racing in the 90's he probably could have gotten plenty of more titles with less competition. It's so strange to see people discredit the fact that Rosberg won a title against basically the toughest competition just because Hamilton DNF'd once. Yet these same people apparently forgot they watched 2015 where Hamilton benefited massively from several DNF's from Nico, who often started from pole and got all the poles from Singapore to Abu Dhabi that season. Rosberg isn't a particularly exciting driver, but he was so much better than people give him credit for. Basically a combination of Häkkinen and Bottas where the boring cancels out the exciting and you're just left with high level consistency.

Ok this is more reddit/general opinion more than /f1/, but the dude is fucking shit. Has a terrible attitude, was rejected by Force India who chose Ocon instead despite pressure from Mercedes. More or less matched in quali by Rio Haryanto. Beaten in quali constantly by fucking MARCUS ERICSSON. Ok at times, mostly anonymous and randomly ends up at the back anyway. Dogshit in the rain compared to Ocon. His performance against Ericsson should be a real eye-opener. He has the full backing of Merc, access to their facilities and equipment and most importantly the simulator. Does Sauber even have a simulator? Marcus's backers own Sauber so there could be some preferential treatment going on but I doubt Merc would be too happy with that and still, this is Marcus "outqualified by a second by Andre Lotterer" Ericsson.

A few good meme results (although Spain was pretty great I must say) doesn't make him a Mercedes caliber driver. I honestly have so much doubt in Mercedes's decision making regarding him that I can't help but think he is only being backed because of his skin color.

Please tell me an objective reason as to why this driver should deserve to be or stay in F1. Junior career is nothing impressive either and won DTM in his 3rd year because Merc forced it and is the youngest DTM champion because no sane racing driver with any talent or money has given up on their single seater aspirations in their early 20's to race in DTM. Completely meaningless statistic and certainly doesn't prove his worth in F1. Looking at some of his performances in DTM its not like he was truly stellar there either.

if liberty really wants to run 24 races in 3 blocks à 8 races, teams will have to add more staff. they're really struggling as is towards the end of the season. i think they'll have to use a rotating model. think of it like every driver going from one team of mechanics to three half-teams, with one of them staying at home for vacation and/or working on the (new) car. like this:

Nothing of note on the US east coast is within 3 hours of Montreal. Boston and New York are 6 hours plus a controlled border (which can easily be another hour) away. That's like going from Silverstone to Spa.

Austin is 30% closer to LA than it is to Montreal. F1 doesn't give a fuck about geographical distribution because really everything in North America is too fucking far apart anyways, they just want to race in the largest markets. East coast is more desirable because of the New York meme but west coast is more realistic because it isn't so overcrowded and full of people that don't own cars.

California having 40 million people means nothing. The state is bigger and more spread out than Germany with less than half the people and all of the bordering states are empty as fuck. Just counting the 4 major cities directly along the east coast that are closer than San Franciso to San Diego is over 50 million. If you count all the ocean bordering states on the west it only totals 50m while on the east it's over 110m.

What matters is that Greater LA has 19m people while the New York City metropolitan area has 24m people in less than half the space. What matters is that LA is 2 1/2h from San Diego (3m) and 4 1/2h from Las Vegas (2m) while New York is only 1h from Philadelphia (6m), 2h from Boston (5m), and 3h from Washington DC (6m). What matters is the capital of the United States, and the financial center of the fucking world.

F1 really wants to race in LA or Vegas and has a half decent chance of doing so because those areas have a long and continuing history of motorsport. But breaking into the New York area is the holy fucking grail for any racing series.
