Why are people acting like this is a "win for Conor"?

For all the "no steps back" talk from Conor, this is about as bad a loss as it could have been. Getting outboxed is fine seeing as Floyd is levels above. Getting absolutely bullied by a much smaller and much older man with "brittle old hands", is a bad loss in my eyes and I don't know how others are trying to spin this as a "win" for Conor.

Getting outboxed for 12 rounds straight is a "good moral victory" for Conor with an easy excuse to spin "I came here to fight, Floyd came here to dance". Getting absolutely whooped by an old man coming out of retirement who used to weigh as low as 125 lbs, is about as bad of a loss as it could have been in my opinion..

If you took off the mcnugget sunglasses for a second, you'd see that mcgregor was the one initiating 95% of the clinching. I don't think I even saw Floyd do his typical punch punch hug combo, he had a high guard the entire time and was okay taking whatever shot Mcgregor had.

What? I never said McGregor wasn't initiating them. Especially later. The fight was an embarrassment to boxing all round. Even McGregor. Can someone explain the call to me? Id it normal to call a fight the second someone gets a slight edge or lands a hit or two? I was legitimately confused when it ended. Seemed like the refs packing it in 7th inning cause the losing team was never gonna get 5 runs anyway. I mean your guy won or whatever if that makes you happy. And was always going to. Just odd they didn't let them play. McGregor seemed as confused as me and he didn't even get his bell rung to cause it.

I want to know why Gervonta is falling apart again. If I remember correctly didn't he disappear on Floyd for a year or so? I think he might have some substance abuse and PTSD stuff going on from his time on the streets and in foster homes.

It really sucks because he has the talent to be really special.
>>
>>77881887
McGregor had no way back in to the fight.
I'm not sure if it looks that way to you if you haven't watched much boxing, but it was a clear as day to every one else that he couldn't even land a lucky punch at that point.

He was stumbling over himself for the latter half of the previous round and taking a lot of unanswered big punches, and then he came into the 9th round doing the same and stumbling all over the place whilst taking big shots against that went unanswered.
When a ref sees that you're no longer protecting yourself, and no longer able to protect yourself, they will stop the fight, especially with 2 still minutes left in the round.

Anon if Mayweather crossed over to mma he'd never even get a shot at a champion or a primetime belt. Boxing fans consider McGregor a challenger for their best, and a big money fight.
No idea why you think the BOXING match has anything to do with MMA. When Tebow strikes out in the diamond we don't take it as an insult to football amd the sport being BTFO. If the MLB wanted to make him the second top paid player and hype him up with a free entry to the world series I would be proud of it anon.

Brief reminder that Floyd would do even better in the octagon. Conor's appalling punching form is not a symptom of kicking and wrestling being more important and sophisticated in the UFC, it's a symptom of kicking and wrestling being equally awful, possibly even more so. Along with spacing, timing, conditioning, and everything else. Floyd's wrestling alone is head and shoulders above anything in the UFC. No one can plant his feet and tie stronger men up as consistently as Floyd can (with boxing gloves). Demian Maia was shut down by Rory MacDonald, a man with average reaction time, slow foot speed, and bad spacing in and of themselves, never mind relative to boxing in general and Floyd particular. Carlos Condit was slower than Roger Mayweather is right now and he was considered a top tier welterweight.

The UFC is a mess. The UFC is a waste.

Lol More people watching boxing than MMA though. I'm going to post this every time you MMA fools start acting crazy thinking your sport is more popular currently.

Boxing TV Ratings in 2017:

> 5.1 Million peak views for Thurman vs Garcia
> 4.4 Million peak views for Pacquiao vs Horn
> 4 Million views in Kanto alone for Yamanaka vs Carlson

Boxing PPV sales in 2017:

>Joshua vs Klitchsko did 1.2 million
>Canelo vs Chavez did 1 million
>Haye vs Bellew did 800,000

Boxing attendance in 2017:

>90,000 for Joshua vs Klitschko
>51,000 for Pacquiao vs Horn

In MMA your best PPV fight couldn't even get 900k, and the second best PPVs are all 300k. And all of your best TV ratings hover somewhere around 2k.

You follow a meme sport that only sells when literal pro wrestlers like CM Punk and Brock Lesnar go to fight in it.
After this fight you only solidified your place in /asp/.

He was probably pretty excited after realizing Conor being a heavy hitter was just a meme.
>>
>>77888030
>>77887488
>>77887922
He is a heavy hitter, boxing (and especially Floyd) just completely shut him down since he's not a boxer.
>>
>>77888092

Floyd is incredibly cautious in the ring. He was 100% certain Conor had no power or else he wouldnt have fought straight at him. He fought him with zero respect.
>>
>>77888092
Even when they went all the way down to 8oz gloves none of Conor's "big" hits even fazed Floyd. That's why Floyd "fought like a Mexican" the majority of the match.
>>
>>77888092
After round 3 Floyd let Conor hit him at will as he walked forward. Floyd was so comfortable he was committing "the cardinal sins of boxing" to quote the commentary from Naz/Kelly. There are parts of the fight where Floyd has 2 feet together, leaning back, and throwing shots, walks forwards jumping with shots when he is open to the counter, ducking in range. Conor's power was so ineffective in gloves Floyd could do whatever he liked.

What kind of crazy Serbian damage control is this
>>
>>77888138
>>77888169
>>77888189
I'm just explaining why Conor normally knocks people out and why he couldn't do shit to Floyd.
Bigger gloves + defense techniques that MMA fighters don't (can't use) + the greatest defensive boxer on the planet who won't walk into counters = Conor is not landing anything worth shit. Add in the fact that boxers do A LOT more conditioning then MMA fighters since they need to focus on much less in training, and that Conor has a noted stamina problem, and it's easy to see why he lost. This is not damage control, simply an assessment and explanation.

>>77888387
It's a meme because the rounds last longer and you have to worry about grappling as well. What they fail to take into account is that boxing is primarily a battle of stamina and endurance unless destroyers like Tyson are fighting, while MMA is primarily about executing the right gameplan to counter your opponent's strengths and play on his weaknesses. In MMA, if you gas, you can try to take your opponent down and hug him (obviously, unless you're a much better grappler, this won't go well). In boxing, you're fucked.

Ufc as a single league is better idea though. I mean it has its problems but the professional boxing system is a joke right now. We can hype individual fights but they are basically exhibition. Why am I supposed to be 'impressed' with McGregor?

What was his actual gameplan for winning the fight? Even when he was being carried the first half of the fight, he showed no intensity or awkwardness whatsoever when it came to attempting to open up Mayweather's defence. Clearly the best strategy he had was to go hard in the opening rounds and land something big, and yet he just stood there clumsily trying to swat Mayweather's high guard away.

Not once did he even look remotely competitive. Why is going rounds you were deliberately carried through a 'moral victory'? Going down swinging is a moral victory. At least then you're actively going for the W. He never looked like he was actively going for the W, at all, there was no strategy whatsoever.

I give him credit for getting in there and for taking some punishment. But in terms of actual boxing, he showed little to nothing, no fighting brains at all.

Maybe he should have actually hired a boxing coach and worked on his conditioning instead of buying Deano-tier suits and drinking.

Reminds me of the Golovkin vs. Brook fight where everyone gave Brook credit for standing in the pocket and getting clobbered, even though it gave him 0% chance to win the fight and all but ruined his career.

AJ and Canelo draw plenty, whereas MMA literally only has McGregor, and no one cares about anyone else because it's a dead sport.

Anybody smart already knew that the MMA pace is slower.

There's what's called the Effort to Pause ratio

1:4 for MMA
3:1 for Boxing

Boxing conditioning carries the day, yes Connor needs additional coaching to add to his staff, and I think he can continue to do great in the UFC, or, even take some boxing matches.

If Mayweather/Pacquiao/Canelo/Joshua/GGG/Ward wanted to take a crack at an MMA fight with McGregor or any other UFC champ Dana would roll out the red carpet. I mean we're talking about an organization that let CM Punk co-headline an event. No fucking way would they turn down a chance to stage an event that would most assuredly generate millions of PPV buys.

He would also definitely jump at the chance to humiliate an elite boxer in the UFC. The guy has constantly talked trash about boxing and seems to think it's his main competition, so to do a crossover event like that and to have a boxer vs UFC fighter in the octagon getting a lot of attention is basically Dana's wet dream.

The only thing that you can really say is "B-But we're doing better right now!". That means nothing. Stay shook MMA fag.
Stop comparing your little baby sport to ours, you've already admitted that comparisons don't matter because MMA is still a small infant compared to boxing.

I don't know why you MMA boys feel the need to reassure to us constantly that your sport is alright.
It ain't as if you're competing with us, Thurman-Garcia did very well despite being on the same night as UFC 209, Lomachenko vs Sosa did really well on HBO despite being on the same night as UFC 210, and Garcia-Broner did very well despite being on the same night as UFC 214 (UFC's best PPV event of the year).

The only argument you can come up with is "B-But people still watch it!". I'll admit it's been a slow year for MMA due to Jones and McGregor being absent for while and shitty champions, but it still has plenty to offer in the future. Boxing has fucking nothing. It takes superfights to sell anything over 500,000 anymore. Boxing is a pathetic sport that nobody will give a single fuck about in less than a decade. MMA will continue to grow while boxing breathes it's last breath. I know you will probably respond to this with "Y-Yeah but [Insert fight here] wasn't that bad!". Yeah, Boxing actually has a place to fall from; Mayweather-Pacquiao was literally the biggest PPV event in history y'know?
Then again, we're supposedly about to top that this year with May-Mac, and even disregarding May-Mac we're probably going to have 3 PPV events that break 1 mil.

Meanwhile MMA is so dogshit that you can only go up, and even then your sport found a way to stall in sales this year.
Congratulation MMAfags, really acquitting your sport here.
>>
>>77893182
The UFC is tanking and McGregor's boxing career is keeping WME's loan afloat. This has probably been the worst year in MMA's history since they got over the hurdle of legalization.

MMA? 15 PPV fights, 5 headlined by a pro wrestler because your sport is a meme that sustains itself on white trash.

>>77893347
>Bragging that a fight with an MMA fighter will do better than the fight between two GOATs
Of course the swan song for the GOAT in boxing will do better than the one fought between two guys to establish whether or not either fighter is truly great. Even Floyd had to fight his Oscar De La Hoya before he got his golden ticket to PPV stardom.

>What did he mean by this? You realize that's a good thing, right?
It's not a good thing for yourself to be in a hole so deep the only direction you can go is up, even worse if you still somehow manage to go further down despite it being impossible to do so.
>>
>>77893320
>7 UFC PPVs have hit 1 million in the past two years
None in 2017. And all but one involved Ronda Rousey, who is a pro wrestler now, and McGregor who is of course boxing.

Because McGregor lasted 10 rounds and won a few. Imagine a pro boxer with a 0-0 MMA record going into MMA against one of the GOATs there, how many seconds would he last?

MMA >> boxing. Fact. Boxing is low as F on the martial arts scale. An elite boxer would lose to an elite MMA fighter, an elite freestyle wrestler, an elite kickboxer, an elite BJJ practitioner of similar size. The only guy the boxer can beat is an elite TKD guy and everybody knows TKD is dance + acrobatics.
>>
>>77893795
>Imagine a pro boxer with a 0-0 MMA record going into MMA against one of the GOATs there, how many seconds would he last?

Longer than you think. I'm fully aware that any random guy who walks into a BJJ gym will get submitted and outclassed by any decent guy in there 30 lbs smaller than HIm. I'm fully aware of the differences between boxing mechanics and MMA mechanics. But I;m telling you that some boxers would fair a lot better than you seem to think. Especially the short stocky boxers like Canelo who still have retarded reach. People like to pretend that boxers are just that, 100% pure boxers. But a lot of them have backgrounds in other combat sports. A shit ton more experience than Mcgregors pathetic amateur boxing experience than some of his fans were bringing up. It only took Holly holm a few years are kickboxing and MMA specific training to be a top level fighter. There are plenty of boxers with much more extensive training in other forms of combat than Holly Holm has.

1 dimensional as F Royce Gracie choked out golden gloves champ who outweighed him by 30+ lbs in a minute at UFC1. MEN'S MMA has evolved leaps and bounds since then. Modern boxers have zero takedown defense or sub game and would get tooled by elite MMA guys in record time.

Boxing and kickboxing went from badass to bitch ass the moment the Brazilian homo showed how easy it is to drag a elite striker to the ground and how defenseless they are to getting raped on the ground at UFC 1.

Because we're talking about combat sports where one of the main objectives is to beat the shit out of your opponent, not sports in which teams compete to see who can get a ball of air inside a net more times. The HW champ in boxing was synonymous with "the baddest man on earth", then some Brazilian homos showed how easily Karelin would rape the baddest boxers and now boxing fans pretend the sport never had anything to do with being badasses baka.
>>
>>77893852
Have you ever actually watched UFC 1? Jimmerson wasn't even in a submission hold, like almost all of Gracie's early fights that was a very obvious fix

Absolutely, groin shots were completely legal in the early UFCs, didn't do shit to stop the Brazilian homos, also everyone has teeth. If you allow biting and groin shots all it does is make the BJJ homo's raping of your ass that much more painful for you.

A combat sport like boxing that can't even defend against gay porn level attacks from smaller men is not something any men with balls should participate in. Boxing is for women and trans.
