Get over it, he lost. Time doesn't matter if in the end your hand ain't raised up. And if the best you can do is a 28 year old surviving against a retired 40 year old for 30 minutes , you ain't got shit to argue about.

Frazier was done by the time Holmes established himself. Not sure about Foreman, that would have been an interesting fight

I'm sure there was a contract stipulation that Bird stop the fight immediately if it looked like either of them were going to be badly hurt. Conor is the ufc cash machine and Floyd is a 40yr old that wants to retire healthy.
>>
>>77896546
>still believing conspiracy theories
No chance of Floyd getting hurt that's why he didn't give a fuck about 8oz gloves and the referee waved it off at pretty much the right point
>>
>>77896521
I really don't think he has what it takes to hang with any of the top heavyweights. Also I've seen interviews with him and he talks like someone that has special needs. I've noticed lately that his interviews seem a little more rehearsed to cover this up.
>>
>>77896585
I'm a boxing fan, don't give a shit about McGregor, but I'm sure there were contract stipulations. I get it that we all wanted it to be a big win for boxing but you can't deny this was more of a WWE match.

One of my mates who is a huge McGregor fanboy was a bit surprised and disappointed by how slow and weak McGregor was. I feel like a lot of MMA fans don't quite appreciate how in control Mayweather was during the fight, like the things he was doing were too quick or subtle and they were more impressed by McGregor's lovetaps that were being blocked

It's super simple to learn how to throw a proper jab and since he's been fighting, there shouldn't be any excuses.

>Shoulda learn how to throw a jab, his length dwarfed Mayweather, and he actually had to get in to reach McG
>Shoulda utilized his "grappling" skills on the clinch, he was supposed to shine here right?
>Shoulda stayed close to natural weight, this is the reason he gasses out

Big doesn't always win. He got beat by a man a 10+ years older than him. Boxers like Loma wanted to help him out, his camp shut everything down. Too proud I suppose?

It takes 30 days to learn a skill. He had months to learn how to...
1. Throw a proper jab with power so he gets respect when he lands it
2. Learn how to properly clinch in stand-up boxing, he actually weaved pretty well in the first rounds
3. Learn how to use his length and southpaw footwork

MMA people are like NO a fight is a fight, when you throw a punch and this and THAT!

Boxing is pure science. This is why people like Mayweather, Golovkin, Canelo, Eggelton and Pacquiao and all other off-world athletes excel in it.

You can't settle for hotdogs over junk food. You need a home cooked meal like steak.
>>
>>77898174
Don't forget, there WAS no reason that Mayweather would resort to shoulder roll.

He got the wrong sparring partners too lol he should have fought ones with high-guard pressure.

You do not do shoulder rolls against a southpaw

>>77898337
Golovkin cuts the ring off and pressures the opponent, he has a reputation as being heavy handed. Canelo isn't great on his feet but has good upper body movement. Golovkin can be hit, his defence isn't the best in the world. Golovkin is the bigger man and favourite to win but it's not impossible Canelo could grow into the fight.

I'll admit the Mayweather/McGregor fight was way more entertaining then I thought. I was pretty hype after the first 2 press conferences, but the last 2 and the weigh in were boring as hell.

At the beginning of the fight, Mayweather was moving forward and McGregor was countering him pretty good. It looked like the McGregor upset was real.

I think it was the 5th round that Mayweather started to turn the fight around. You could see McGregor getting tired and Mayweather was landing more solid punches. I actually had McGregor ahead 5-4 going into the 10th. Then you could see McGregor had nothing left. I think the ref should have let McGregor hit the floor, but I'm guessing he was told to protect him.

Also, where was the all the McGregor power that everyone was talking about? He threw softer punches then Mayweather did. His best punch was a counter uppercut in like the 2nd round and it didn't phase Mayweather.

You're just baiting but the answer is obvious. 40 year-old Mayweather would lose in less than one minute against some 20-something MMA fighter. Mayweather, to the best of my knowledge, has no training whatsoever in the martial arts so he'd probably very quickly get put into a hold that would subdue him.

Just went back through and reviewed the fight in slow mo and counted the punches. Go back and recount the punches that actually connected. Remember hitting someone's elbows is not counted . Hitting the gloves does not count as a connect punch either. After I recounted 3 times Floyd had 69 connected punches. McGregor had 148. Floyd held 21 times. McGregor held 11 times. Floyd fore arm to the throat 16 times. McGregor rabbit punched 16 times. Floyd used his elbow 19 times which is illegal. Don't believe me go back and look at all I have claimed. You will be surprised. McGregor lost even though I feel it was premature stoppage . Floyd missed 3 of his last punches when the ref stopped the fight. Conner was fatigue. When have you seen a ref stop a fight because of a fighter being fatigue 2 cases when 1 fell to the canvass and the other ask the ref to stop it? McGregor should had took a knee but that is here nor there. I had the fight McGregor 1 point a head heading to the 10th round. The judges had outrageous score on the score card. If the fight wasn't stopped and the scores for Floyd would had been announced, you would had a out right riot in the building. 2 judges had McGregor only wining 2 rounds. LOL 2 rounds can you believe that?
>>
>>77900422
Literally only lost due to his conditioning and early stoppage. I've seen plenty of refs let it go longer, this ref had it out for Conner soon as he starred at him during prefight with the rules. It's like pretty sure he knows.

Now that the dust has settled...

The result was never the interesting feature of this bout. What IS interesting is the ramifications of the MMA vs boxing debate. As I have seen so many times in similar match ups in the gym, the MMA athlete did quite well early in the match and can create a competitive first few rounds. However, there is a dramatic difference in energy expenditure on the part of the MMA athlete versus the more efficient boxer. As such, there is an inevitable change over as the match progresses. Mr Mayweather was doubtless aware that this would occur and waited patiently for the mid/later rounds to switch from a passive game to one of forward aggression. What has become clear however, is this - ELITE MMA ATHLETES ARE CONSIDERABLY BETTER EQUIPT TO HANDLE A BOXERS GAME THAN BOXERS ARE TO HANDLE AN MMA FIGHTERS GAME. There is almost no chance an elite boxer could get to a tenth round with an elite MMA athlete. Even if the bout permitted kicks and elbows/knees in the clinch, the outcome would almost certainly be different. If takedowns and ground work were allowed it would be over in seconds - any one of the innumerable clinches in the fight would be an immediate takedown from which a boxer is extremely unlikely to recover. Mr McGregor may have (predictably) lost the bout, but he won something much bigger. He showed that the endless criticism of MMA in standing striking over the years is grossly exaggerated. At elite levels they are highly competent and can provide a good match for a time with even the best boxers in the boxers domain. The daring Irishman may have lost a bout, but he won the cultural war between boxing and MMA and showed clearly that he can do far better in their domain than they can in his.

MMA artists have no specialties, they're ALL over the place. Don't count James Toney heading over there, he was overweight and way over the hill.

Look at Mayorga, Holmes, Diaz. The three are cornerstone boxers who handled "MMA" touch butts.

It's so easy. Once you know how to throw punches, just learn how to kick and then learn how to defend the ground game.

MMA people don't last. They do not have the endurance of boxing elites.

They're usually smaller compared to MMA artists (boxers) but what they lack in size makes up in pure skill. Check mate.

I don't get the logic of comparing MMA's round and time structure to boxing's (i.e., the MMA fighter last 10 rounds, but the boxer would never last a round in MMA)?

It's hard to knock someone out in boxing within 5 rounds, even for heavyhanded KO artists. In MMA, there's multiple ways to end a fight quickly. The comparison isn't linear.

It would be like if a soccer team challenged a basketball team to basketball and lost something like 120-20, and the soccer fan said, "Get them on the field and the basketball team doesn't score a goal! Our sports 'wins' because we were at least able to score!"

Well of course. It's hard to score in soccer while it's relatively easy to score in basketball.

Learn to score that's not what happened. Mayweather threw 4 punches in the first round he was letting Conor do what he wanted, he let him have the first two rounds. After that he won 8 in a row just putting up a high guard and walking him down. He carried Conor and managed the fight how he wanted.

>“There were women for Marciano everywhere he went after his retirement,” Nack writes. “That a woman be waiting for him was as requisite for his appearance as the folded $100 bills.”

>Dominic Santarelli (a longtime social acquaintance and fringe underworld figure) later recalled, “If Rocky ever went to some place and there was not a girl waiting for him, he’d never come back. He never had an affair. I don’t think he had sex with the same girl twice. Any girls he had sex with, you couldn’t bring her to dinner no more. That’s it. Get rid of her. He never wanted to see her again.”

>“Rock was insane about girls, all the time,” Richie Paterniti remembered. “That’s all he wanted to do. Rock had orgies and parties. We had girls every single day and night. I had a suitcase that I took all over, filled with vibrators and electric massagers and all kinds of creams and oils.”

Malignaggi exposed "The Notorious" for not throwing punches not because he was tired, but because he "quit" and wanted referee Byrd to end the fight.

"If you get tired you don't quit, I'm sorry," Malignaggi told MMAFighting.com.

"In MMA you can put yourself in a position to be submitted, not fight off the submission then you can tap out. There's a way to cop out in MMA, there's no way to cop out in boxing.

"You did not throw a punch for a minute straight while you were being assaulted.

"The bottom line is he didn't want to go out on his back, he wanted Byrd to save him.

Because if you don't want Byrd to save you, you'll show some signs of life, you'll throw a punch. You'll say, 'Yeah I'm hurting but I want to remain in this fight, I don't want to be pulled out of this fight.'

"He did none of that, he threw no punches, he was waiting for Byrd to stop the fight. He can say anything he wants, but he can't edit this video."

"He just looked for a way out of the fight," Malignaggi told Luke Thomas on SiriusXM radio.

"He didn't want to fight. The thing about boxing is you can't lie - the truth comes out. In the ring you're exposed for everything you are and everything you're not."

nce he's in a bad situation or a negative situation, whether it's in an MMA fight or a boxing fight, the guy punks out. He looks for a way out of a fight," Malignaggi told Thomas.

"He stopped throwing punches, he stopped fighting. Once he doesn't want to be there he stops fighting. For all the loudness and all the bluster he literally stops fighting.

"Fatigue comes into play for everybody ... at that point it becomes mental. The guy has no balls.

"He quit. If you don't throw a punch for over a minute, you quit buddy. You can explain it any way you want ... you quit buddy, you absolutely did."

"I don't like the guy, I never will like the guy, personally I think he's a scumbag," Malignaggi said.
RIP GOOB

>“If you get tired you don’t quit, I’m sorry. In MMA you can put yourself in a position to be submitted, not fight off the submission then you can tap out. There’s a way to cop out in MMA, there’s no way to cop out in boxing," Malignaggi told MMA Fighting.

Golovkin has reach, power and footwork that exceeds Canelo. Both are very accurate punchers, Canelo a bit faster maybe.

As far as his defense, Golovkin is pretty tight. He seems to let it go if he thinks their power can't phase him. But I think he'll be pretty cautious against Canelo.

Got a better chin too, think Canelo got a suspect chin imo.

Who would you pick for

Joe Louis vs George Foreman
Joe Louis vs Joe Frazier
Joe Louis vs Evander Holyfield
Joe Louis vs Wladimir Klitschko
Joe Louis vs Big Tyse
>>
>>77917265
Joe Louis is a small cruiserweight by today's standards
>>
>>77917174
I'll check it later. Fuck, just found the Nephew in Law of MemEdwin Valero, the fist of Chavez, didnt enter the championship, I was expecting some meme magic
>>
>>77917265
What >>77917334 said. Loses to all of them except Joe Frazier because of size and conditioning.

Joe Louis was better P4P than all of those however.
>>
>>77917265
Training and
roids
gets better as time goes on
>>
>>77917334
I know, but let's say the weight is adjusted but with everything else the same, skill, technique, power and all that jazz, who would you pick?

Who you got?
>>
>>77917517
Parker in a close decision. He has good hands and weak everything else, while Hughie is the opposite
>>
man those grant boxing gloves are like 1.5k the fuck is so special about them mine were £80 and have lasted years
>>
Okolie has a decent opponent on Friday. That African who fought Dubois and landed a nice counter at one point. I still reckon Okolie is a knockout waiting to happen. Probably not at this level but maybe when he steps up to British title level
>>
>>77917669
Aesthetics.

Only peasants use Everlast. Fedora tippers use Winning. Face first plodders use Cleto Reyes.

Grant is patricians choice.
>>
>>77917669
You can get a good pair of gloves of £200
>>
>>77917712

he was getting caught by a literal polish plumber. One that David Allen had sparked out earlier.

Im surprised he made it to the olympics because he hasn't shown much boxing ability, just power.
>>
>>77917751
I know the brand has kinda been tarnished by that's bullshit. Everlast is classic, they still make professional boxing gloves and equipment.
>>

>Golovkin is the bigger man
No he is not. And he got trashed by Jacob. GGG fans talk about him as he was flawless while he has only fought garbage and his only legit match was very close to be a defeat
>>
>>77917936
Not a GGG homer but that was as prime a Daniel Jacobs as you'll ever see who probably weighed in close to 190lb on fight night, he still got dropped and it was a close but decisive win.

People also conveniently forget that Lemiuex, Stevens and Jacobs are absolutely monster punchers. Name anyone who's faced as many big punchers as GGG has right now. Doesn't get credit for this at all.
>>
>>77917936
Wtf, is funny how nobody here was giving jacob a shot and suddenly everybody is saying He won. It was a pretty close match but GGG Won clearly. Jacobs is a beast, and he can beat Canelo Easy but golovkin put him down just jabbing. And lets remember Jacobs was LHW in that fight
>>
>>77918042
Biased Chicano, too emotionally invested. If Canelo were to win it would be one of the great wins in boxing history, he avoided it because he's going to be bang up against it.
>>
>>77918003
>who probably weighed in close to 190lb on fight night

Lol no. It would've been around 175 max, otherwise he'd gas like McGregor
>>
>>77914689
>>77916030
>and Canelo only fought bums
Canelo has fought better boxers than GGG.GGG just fought garbage excluding Jacobs
>>
>>77918171
He missed the IBF weigh in intentionally to add as much poundage as possible. It was a good strategy, he was 175lb minimum he looked like a damn Light Heavy in there.
>>
>>77918205
Brook is harder than Khan, Lemieux is harder than Cotto, Willie Monroe Jr is harder than Liam Smith
>>
>>77918236
If he had cut more than 15 lbs or so it would have fucked him over. He was heavier than GGG or an average middleweight but no way was he anywhere near 190
>>
>>77918247
Lara beats them all. And Cotto will beat Lemieux later this year most likely
>>
>>77918205
Pls not this argument again. Caneloweight is a reality, he even vacant a belt. GGG Has been collecting belts and fought mandatories, meanwhile Canelo was sparring the corpse of Chavez jr.
>>
>>77918271
He won't in my opinion
>>
>>77918247
Are people genuinely debating who has the better resume?

I feel like the only way for GGG fans to accept that Canelo has a better fight history is once Canelo wins, and they claim it was the expected outcome.
>>
cotto was finished the moment he lost to canelo
>>
>>77918205
Why are you responding to me about Canelo? Did I mention the C word? Are you drunk? Am I drunk?
>>
>>77918301
That was a close fight and he was noticeably smaller than Canelo
>>
>>77918308
You are a bum

Wait, Cotto barely lost that fight.

We show respect to the greats here.
>>
>>77918345
Cotto is a great but he's at the end of his career, Lemieux is a much harder fight than Kamegai
>>
>any great fighter that isn't finished
>losing to canelo
yeh nah
>>
>>77918290
The midleweight division is garbage. GGG has dominated a garbage division. Canelo will just fuck his shit up
>>
>"Speed will be a big factor, an important factor in this fight," said Canelo. "Look, I've had big fights, important ones in my career, but this is the most important, the most dangerous of my career at the moment, and I'm taking the challenge.

>"My team and I know this is 14 years worth of work. It's a great responsibility, but we are ready for it. I see it as a fight which there will be a before and after Canelo. "Maybe he's stronger than me, maybe. I think though that being stronger than me doesn't mean he punches harder than me."
>>
>>77918444
>I think though that being stronger than me doesn't mean he punches harder than me."

Is this spic-logic?

Cotto has buckets more talent than old Lemieux
>>
>>77918482
Maybe implying he can generate more power with faster movement from the hips and legs. He knows Golovkin is the big puncher in his heart though.
>>
>>77918495
We'll see, that fight isn't guaranteed yet I think he's hoping Canelo will win so he can get the rematch instead

Ex pimp and woman beater/ trafficer has accepted Badou Jacks challenge. I don't think Jack has the power to hurt him unfortunately.

Don't know about that, Stevenson is old and Jack took apart Nathan Cleverly easily

That's some good stuff right there.
>>
How much of this fight is just Canelo wanting to be noticed by Golovkin since their sparing match?
>>
>>77900680
Why doesnt he just pay someone to tutor the fucking out of his reading ability and then read Shakespeare on Jimmy Fallon to BTFO everyone?

Who is Floyd's MMA equivalent? I like seeing parries and counter strikes.
