Wait what was the number High Freeze called?
#Power6
>hugh freeze forced to resign not due to allegations of bribing players, but for calling escort services on school phones. Houston nutt, previous ole miss head coach was the one to find the calls.
>>77237553
>Power6
Is this...... /ouryear/ ?
>>77238018
Only if teams other than USF can step up
Hopefully, if Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, Navy, Tulsa, and Temple win their OOC games, the AAC will gain a lot more recognition
>>77237906
What if he was bribing players with escorts? Talk about NCAA violations up the ass. Figure out when he made all of those calls and then see if he was meeting with recruits that day or the next day. Take the Nkemdiche brothers. Mommy is a Nigerian politician so you know she's corrupt as shit. Daddy is a big doctor. Two brothers, one a rare clear cut #1 prospect, pick fucking Ole Miss over everyone else? I'd bet that has less to do with Hugh than it had to do with Heather and Holly.
>>77238162
Theyll already be sanctioned out the ass as is and no body good will fill that head coach position till it's over. Also it was already revealed that freeze was using the escorts personally
>Ole Miss doesn't have to pay a penny of Freeze's $12 million contract
Honestly, it's a fucking gift.
>>77238482
Theyll just have to pay it to nutt in the lawsuit

If ECU wins ANY of their OOC games, it'll be a win for the AAC.
ECU has the hardest OOC schedule in College football this fall, G5 and P5 included.
>too bad it's on a rebuilding year under a second season coach.
I wish we still had Coach Ruf.
>>77239566
The ACC will take a huge step back
They was only 3rd best last year
They're barely better than the AAC
>>77240083
What the fuck was your AD thinking?
One bad season after losing your star OC who is now the head coach at Oklahoma shouldn't have been enough to get rid of him
>>77240160
The AAC has become a conference for young, dashing, "up and coming" coaches. Coach Ruf was too old, and not dashing enough.
At least, that's my take on it.
I think he'd done enough to deserve ONE 5-7 season (with a backup QB, no less), but that was all the justification Compher needed to sack him.
There was a HUGE backlash in the fan community to get the AD fired. Nothing happened, of course, and just a few months ago the AD got a contract extension to boot.
>something about all of it smells a little fishy to me, tbqh.
I'm not a UGA fan but I honestly believe this is their year. Probably next year and the year after too.

>Coach Ruf was too old, and not dashing enough.
*handsome enough
I don't think anyone would call him "conventionally attractive"
>AAC
>not throwing your full weight behind MW
>>77241190
AAC has only been around for 4 years and it's already more competitive and successful than the MW
>>77241317
The MW has only been at 12 teams for a comparable amount of time.
>>77241707
Because the AAC has a much larger fan base, and attendance numbers, than the MW. The PAC-12 suffers the same problems vs the other power conferences.
College football just isn't as popular west of Texas.
Hell, bog standard mid-major ECU has comparable crowd numbers to half the PAC-12; a P5 conference with regular playoff contenders.
>>77241783
This actually got me interested in looking it up, and the results aren't all that surprising. Obviously, facebook (which is how the data was collected) isn't the most reliable source, but it still shows that outside of Oregon and Wyoming, the western half of the US really doesn't care that much about football.

I forgot about Stanford, they can replace WSU. Top 3, I think Pac-12, ACC and Big Ten are pretty even. Top 4 I think B1G is slighty better. Overall though, the B1G has a lot of bottom feeders.
>>77243363
That's a steep drop-off in the Big 12, OU just changed coaches for the first time in over a decade, and UT is a big fat question-mark. WVU gets a preseason ranking every year based on nothing, and every year starts losing as soon as they play actual competition.
At that point, you might as well include the AAC:
Houston
USF
Navy
Temple
the B1G is the only conference that has multiple teams with a realistic chance to win.
>ACC
Crablegs State
>SEC
Bammer
>PAC
PooSC
>Big XII
Choklahoma
whereas the B1G has AT LEAST 3 teams that could realistically win the CFP.
>>77243406
Yeah, B12 is garbage. Texas is going to be very good though. Herman is going to turn them around like Harbaugh did Michigan in 2015.. But they have even more talent and a weak conference with a weakened OU.. I could see Texas going 11-1/10-2 or something honestly. Lot of returning players, too.

Texas will lose to USC and they will lose one of the games they are supposed to win. Their season basically boils down to how well they do in that 3 week stretch against the best teams in the Big 12. Don't write off OU just because Stoops retired. They still return a good QB and the whole offensive line. That's a pretty effective recipe for a strong offense. Fortunately for Texas two of their tossup games are home games and one is neutral site. I see an 8-4 regular season coming up for Texas but I anticipate them having a huge year in 2018.
>>77243500
Are you saying Texas is BACK?
>>77242590
More like
>success=attendance
and attendance means media deals, money, and notoriety in general. It's a self fulfilling prophecy once it picks up enough momentum.
>>77243141
I was referring more to the fact that ECU hasn't been the "wreck your shit" BCS buster it used to be since the end of the 2014 season. Not its attendance numbers (which are actually impressive for a G5).
And to add a wrinkle to the equation of money=success=attendance I mentioned earlier, ECU has the lowest paid coach and one of the smallest if not THE smallest budget in the AAC. It's less than ODU. Yet ECU still has record breaking crowds for the G5. So what I'm saying is that finding correlations can be a dangerous game.
>>77244236
So first you argue the Pac-12 isn't worthy because no one goes to games, then when challenged, you switch up to saying they'd get more people to go to games if they were successful? Which is it?
Pac-12 teams are every bit as successful as the other P5's, UW, USC and UC lit it up this season and Cal and at least one of the Arizonas was typically shit.
Also shit: (You)
>>77244290
>So first you argue the Pac-12 isn't worthy because no one goes to games
I never made this claim. I even said they routinely have CFB playoff contenders. I was making the point that they don't get the notoriety and media profile of other P5 conferences due to the lower number of TV viewers. This doesn't impact their quality of play at all. USC is a legitimate contender for the Natty this fall.

In 1999 hurricane Floyd devastated Eastern NC. The worst flooding ever seen in anyone's lifetime, with hundreds killed and tens of thousands who lost their homes and every possession. The campus and stadium at ECU were flooded. The only gear the team had were what they'd brought on the road with them the last week.
Dowdy Ficklen stadium was in shambles.
NC State offered to host the game for ECU, tens of thousands of fans sold the stadium out, people who often had no home to return to, and all the possessions they owned in the cars they drove to Raleigh.
There were no band uniforms or instruments to be played. Alumni brought their personal instruments and ECU shirts to sit in the band section and play.
Miami took a commanding 23-0 lead by half time.
Then, out of nowhere, ECU's offense comes alive. The defense became a brick wall, a rip tide that no Miami ball carrier could swim against.
The Pirates found found the strength to weather the storm, and beat #9 Miami's """"Hurricanes"""" with a miraculous 27-23 finish.
I was there with my entire extended family from Raleigh, all dyed in the wool NC State Wolfpack fans. Even they were Yelling "FIRST DOWN.... PIRATES!!! ...ARGH!!" by the fourth quarter.

ACC
SEC
B1G
>>77277677
I'm just not convinced the ACC is deep this year. Obviously FSU will be good, but everyone else has some serious unanswered questions.
>>77277677
I'd put the Pac 12 above B1G
1. SEC - Bama/Georgia/Auburn all expected to be pretty good. Kentucky/Florida/LSU should be decent. Everyone else is probably gonna be bad. Miss State could upset someone.
2. ACC - FSU undoubtedly carrying the conference. Clemson replacing a program legend at qb. Trenches should be good enough to carry them to a good season but I doubt they win the division. Louisville should be very good if they can protect their qb. FSU/Louisville probably decides the conference. Never know what the fuck you'll get from Georgia Tech. Everyone else is rebuilding. Pitt probably upsets someone again.
3. PAC 12 - USC/Washington are both going to be pretty damn good. After that you have Stanford and maybe Utah. Willie Taggart is tearing Oregon back down to the foundation so don't expect more than 6-6. Utah will be fiesty, Colorado's magic from last year left with their qb. Everyone else will be bad.
4. B1G - Penn State/Ohio State the cream of the crop, probably decides the conference. Michigan lost a ton of experience, don't think this is going to be their year. The rest of the teams are average at best, and Rutgers/Maryland at worst.
Now that I typed this out you can interchange 1 and 2 / 3 and 4 and I wouldn't argue.

Not saying Florida is going to lose but I don't like their chances.
Don Brown had the best D in the country 2 years ago at Boston College and followed it up with the best at Michigan last year. UM loses a lot of guys but they have 15 guys returning that started a game last year.
In a game that stacks up pretty even on paper, I'm taking the team with the much better coaching staff and a QB that has actually played and knows the offense he's running.

The Game should always be 50/50 no matter the records. Especially when both teams appear to finally be near equal in talent again. Especially at home. Wisconsin won't be as good as people think but still a really tough game on the road, so it's a toss up. Penn State because of muh white out and night game is only reason I favor them which is hard to do since I think they're overrated and a pretty even matchup otherwise.
Truthfully, on a neutral field I think OSU is the only team that would win more often than not on this schedule against Michigan this year.
11-1 is best case scenario but pretty unlikely. I'm calling 10-2 with 2 losses to any of the following: OSU, Florida, PSU and Wisconsin. 9-3 is also possible but will require dropping all 3 games they'll be dogs in (OSU/PSU/Wisc) or 2 and one against UF or someone they have no business losing to. 8-4 will be disappointing and worst case scenario.
So.. What happens if in conference play; Michigan goes 8-1 with their one loss at 8-1 Penn State who's one loss is at 8-1 Ohio State who's one loss is at Michigan?
>>77285921
According to B1G tiebreaker rules they have 6 steps to tiebreak this scenario. Since they all win out in other conference games and against each other, it would go to step 5 which is overall record. So whoever didn't blow one of their 3 OOC games basically. If there's still a tie between 2 it's whoever beat the other but if it's still tied between all 3, it's literally randomly drawn.
Which is kinda stupid.. At that point you should at least look at points scored against shared opponents, points scored in general or anything football related.

IMO, there's a coaching bubble that's going to burst, and soon.
If Herman, Fleck, Rhule, Taggart, et al wind up busting, schools might finally stop betting on unproven talent. It seems like the ladder/coaching carousel has been spinning at an unsustainable speed, with unrealistic expectations, for the past few years.
Time will tell, I suppose.
>>77294954
>coaching bubble
It goes in cycles.
It reached peak stupid when Lane Kiffin was hired away from Tennessee to USC before he even coached a game. This is idiotic.
The problem is more that there are ADs out there who are functionally retarded, and then Chancellors who don't know what the AD does, so they're judging the quality of the AD based on the AD's own self-assessment.
Hiring a coach who went 9-3 at his G5 seems sound on paper, but not when he either (a) has only been there one year, or (b) has been there five years, but went a combined 8-40 the year before he went 9-3.
It's not rocket surgery.

One "wunderkid" season, followed by a "meh" season with losses to Navy, SMU, and Memphis in the regular season. Hardly enough data to draw any hard conclusions from.
Fleck had some real choppy years too, and he had an unreasonably cupcake schedule at WMU in 2016. What was his cornerstone win, Northwestern? Yikes. He got exposed in the NY6 by Wisconsin.
Of the ones I listed though, Fleck has the best chance of turning out well though. He had mediocre talent at best, it was his personal charisma that got the players fired up. I remember watching a game where a WMU player had a season ending injury, and left the field in a stretcher "rowing" and telling his teammates "finish this." THAT is pure buy-in from the coach. THAT is something he will take with him.
Whether he can combine that with enough talent at Minnesota to compete with anOSU, Michigan, Nebraska, et al? Time will tell.
>>77295397

>>77294904
Don't be silly. P5s aren't going to hire straight out of the Sun Belt.
Either of the Sun Belt's two reigning powers, Troy and Appalachian State, could make a run at the NY6 this season.
And I'm willing to bet they wouldn't be blown out by 40 points, either, considering Troy only lost to National Champion Clemson last season by 6 points.
>>77296880
>Capping the conference at 10 members
Yeah, but a CCG in a 10 team conference is a farce.
>>77296949
it's a brilliant farce, though.
An 8 game conference slate (rather than full round robin) means SBC schools can schedule more OOC games. Teams like Troy, App and South Alabama drool at the opportunity of playing and beating multiple P5s each season.
Hell, if Troy somehow scheduled 3 P5s in a single season and beat them all, they'd have a serious argument for the NY6. Plus, the extra game helps the champion in bowl considerations.

The SBC won't make a NY6 because they can't keep any coaches long enough to so. It's Benson projecting strength where there is none, because they don't have the AAC's names, the MW's history, the MAC's tradition, or CUSA's bowl tie-ins.

Very true. But if an undefeated Memphis meets an undefeated USF in the CCG, and USF buries Memphis (along with all their other games)--that would go a long way toward convincing the board.
Also, the AAC East's teams are looking a lot better this year, with some serious OOC games, so USF's strength of schedule in conference play might look a lot better by the end of the season as well.
UCF, Temple, maybe even ECU (if ECU does well in OOC play, that'll be a real achievement in its own right).

I don't care which team you root for, but does this not get you hyped as fuck for the season?

What's your favorite uniform in /cfb/?
>No picking your own team
I love LSU's purple. So classic.
If ya ho only knew
>>77325090
I like most of the teams that have maintained a relatively classic look with their unis. New age flashy meme unis are the fucking worst, can't respect any cow college that wears them.

>>77325090

I'll ho with Ohio. I love the Olive Drab green and double white stripes.

In 2017, C-USA sent a 5-7 team to a bowl because of how terrible they were top to bottom as a conference.
Your argument is specious, and you sound like an angry child.
