At least, that's my take on it.

I think he'd done enough to deserve ONE 5-7 season (with a backup QB, no less), but that was all the justification Compher needed to sack him.

There was a HUGE backlash in the fan community to get the AD fired. Nothing happened, of course, and just a few months ago the AD got a contract extension to boot.

Texas will lose to USC and they will lose one of the games they are supposed to win. Their season basically boils down to how well they do in that 3 week stretch against the best teams in the Big 12. Don't write off OU just because Stoops retired. They still return a good QB and the whole offensive line. That's a pretty effective recipe for a strong offense. Fortunately for Texas two of their tossup games are home games and one is neutral site. I see an 8-4 regular season coming up for Texas but I anticipate them having a huge year in 2018.

Then, out of nowhere, ECU's offense comes alive. The defense became a brick wall, a rip tide that no Miami ball carrier could swim against.

The Pirates found found the strength to weather the storm, and beat #9 Miami's """"Hurricanes"""" with a miraculous 27-23 finish.

I was there with my entire extended family from Raleigh, all dyed in the wool NC State Wolfpack fans. Even they were Yelling "FIRST DOWN.... PIRATES!!! ...ARGH!!" by the fourth quarter.

I'd put the Pac 12 above B1G

1. SEC - Bama/Georgia/Auburn all expected to be pretty good. Kentucky/Florida/LSU should be decent. Everyone else is probably gonna be bad. Miss State could upset someone.

2. ACC - FSU undoubtedly carrying the conference. Clemson replacing a program legend at qb. Trenches should be good enough to carry them to a good season but I doubt they win the division. Louisville should be very good if they can protect their qb. FSU/Louisville probably decides the conference. Never know what the fuck you'll get from Georgia Tech. Everyone else is rebuilding. Pitt probably upsets someone again.

3. PAC 12 - USC/Washington are both going to be pretty damn good. After that you have Stanford and maybe Utah. Willie Taggart is tearing Oregon back down to the foundation so don't expect more than 6-6. Utah will be fiesty, Colorado's magic from last year left with their qb. Everyone else will be bad.

4. B1G - Penn State/Ohio State the cream of the crop, probably decides the conference. Michigan lost a ton of experience, don't think this is going to be their year. The rest of the teams are average at best, and Rutgers/Maryland at worst.

Now that I typed this out you can interchange 1 and 2 / 3 and 4 and I wouldn't argue.

ECU has a larger [football] fan base than UNC and NCSU, according to some sources. At the very least, it's a tight race--much more so than you'd think, being a directional school and all.

In Virginia, VA Tech is MUCH more popular than UVA.

Don Brown had the best D in the country 2 years ago at Boston College and followed it up with the best at Michigan last year. UM loses a lot of guys but they have 15 guys returning that started a game last year.

In a game that stacks up pretty even on paper, I'm taking the team with the much better coaching staff and a QB that has actually played and knows the offense he's running.

The Game should always be 50/50 no matter the records. Especially when both teams appear to finally be near equal in talent again. Especially at home. Wisconsin won't be as good as people think but still a really tough game on the road, so it's a toss up. Penn State because of muh white out and night game is only reason I favor them which is hard to do since I think they're overrated and a pretty even matchup otherwise.

Truthfully, on a neutral field I think OSU is the only team that would win more often than not on this schedule against Michigan this year.

11-1 is best case scenario but pretty unlikely. I'm calling 10-2 with 2 losses to any of the following: OSU, Florida, PSU and Wisconsin. 9-3 is also possible but will require dropping all 3 games they'll be dogs in (OSU/PSU/Wisc) or 2 and one against UF or someone they have no business losing to. 8-4 will be disappointing and worst case scenario.

So.. What happens if in conference play; Michigan goes 8-1 with their one loss at 8-1 Penn State who's one loss is at 8-1 Ohio State who's one loss is at Michigan?

According to B1G tiebreaker rules they have 6 steps to tiebreak this scenario. Since they all win out in other conference games and against each other, it would go to step 5 which is overall record. So whoever didn't blow one of their 3 OOC games basically. If there's still a tie between 2 it's whoever beat the other but if it's still tied between all 3, it's literally randomly drawn.

Which is kinda stupid.. At that point you should at least look at points scored against shared opponents, points scored in general or anything football related.

One "wunderkid" season, followed by a "meh" season with losses to Navy, SMU, and Memphis in the regular season. Hardly enough data to draw any hard conclusions from.

Fleck had some real choppy years too, and he had an unreasonably cupcake schedule at WMU in 2016. What was his cornerstone win, Northwestern? Yikes. He got exposed in the NY6 by Wisconsin.

Of the ones I listed though, Fleck has the best chance of turning out well though. He had mediocre talent at best, it was his personal charisma that got the players fired up. I remember watching a game where a WMU player had a season ending injury, and left the field in a stretcher "rowing" and telling his teammates "finish this." THAT is pure buy-in from the coach. THAT is something he will take with him.

Whether he can combine that with enough talent at Minnesota to compete with anOSU, Michigan, Nebraska, et al? Time will tell.
