Another question on engines - do you think electric power should play more or less of a role in F1? I understand many are against it, they think it would completely ruin the spirit of the sport. And many drivers want big old V10s and V12s too. But it seems the FIA and the engine manufacturers are all heavily intent on keeping electric power, and indeed increasing its use.

But then again F1 has always been a petrol engine series. I guess I don't mind hybrids, I guess it is the future of most road cars I think. Guise, so I have this offer.
There's a 2014 Toyota Tundra with a below 1k mileage for about 2.500 eurobucks.
The only downside is, its geabox (I believe) is sort of rekt from pulling a truck. Apparently it's still driveable, just lacks power up steep terrain. Fixing it would probably cost another 3.000 eurobucks.
I know Tundras usually sell at about 40.000 -50.000 eurobucks without any issues.
My question is, if I fixed it, could I make profit off selling it? Or is it a lost case?

Extremely lean running ICEs on a tank you can't refill isn't a great recipe for racing. 100 kg/hr is not much. We can't hit the 15k rpm limit. That hurts power output, makes fuel saving mandatory and changes the engine sound(I personally don't really mind this). While I find the efficiency of the current engines extremely impressive, I also think there's not much value in that for motorsports. F1 has also utterly failed to advertise the brilliant thermal efficiency of current PUs to the people watching. It seems like many don't know or care about it yet we're on the 4th season with these same rules.

As F1 has limitations to fuel type, valve size and possibly port size and engine displacement, there's only a certain amount of fuel you can burn in a combustion cycle. Instead of limiting fuel flow, put a limit on engine displacement and boost pressure. It will ultimately limit the fuel flow too but gives more freedom in engine design and mapping. Teams will try to optimize the engines to burn as much fuel as efficiently as possible. The balance will be found rather quickly. Fuel saving will become a potential strategy instead of a nature of the sport assuming refueling returns.

Could just increase the fuel flow limit enough, too. That might remove any ridiculous loopholes while yielding the same impact on engine design.

I don't think it does. I don't think much anything from the current F1 engines is being used for road cars beyond some energy harvesting technologies to modern hypercars. Perhaps there is something to learn from current gen F1 engine manufacturing and design to translate it for non racing applications but it all seems pretty small. Road vehicles don't share the same design goals and their focus has shifted more and more to electric powertrains. Road cars can have more complex ICEs than F1 has simply because they can use and design technologies and materials more freely.

Fuel efficiency is always a focus in engine development whether it's racing or road cars. Burning the fuel more efficiently has no downside. That aspect won't be removed unless the engines are completely locked. What I don't want to see is not being able to push the car in the fear that you might run out of fuel on a predetermined fuel load, can't rev the engine because you exceed a fuel flow restriction or that there's a deliberate attempt to save the engine by not using it at full power in a race.

Road cars struggle with emissions more than fuel efficiency.
