Without going into an /adv/ tier rant, same situation. Very few friends. Those who do wouldnt pay for baseball tickets/travel/etc. And mom doesnt give a fuck about sports/dad ran out on family.

I've gone to about 20 games alone now. The first one was awkward as fuck. Since then, I just dont give a shit. I go, cheer for the team. Down a beer or two. Its literally 'me' time. I'm not there to tag myself in a facebook post. To instagram #letsgomets and tag friends. I'll talk here and there to the person next to me, and im not even that sociable. I love baseball, and if no one else wants to go, fuck em. I live in NYC. I also went to the ASG parade. Being 10 feet away from the best baseball players was a fantastic experience. I wasn't going to miss it because 'boo hoo no one wants to go'.

Last season I got drunk with a three Phillies fans and they were cool enough to buy me beer even though I was still 20 at the time. You can't "pass" an at bat or a scorching ground ball to other players. You have to make the play. So a kid who sucks in basketball just kind blends into the team, running around, playing defense, trying to stay out of the way, but still feels like he's "contributing," because he's active and running around, i.e busy work.
